Mim Haysom’s world-beating, Cannes-winning One House initiative at Suncorp in 2022 was a big bold bet on innovative, mould-breaking marketing that Suncorp’s executive leadership and board only saw days before a documentary on the initiative was set to broadcast on Nine. “The first time the board saw One House, I took them into the auditorium and played them the 26-minute documentary three nights before it was going live on Channel Nine,” says Suncorp’s Executive GM, Brand & Customer Experience. “The accountability for creativity stops with me … I set myself up that way from the get-go.” Haysom is also the person who tells the CFO she needs incremental money for performance media – and not to siphon it out of brand. “Insurance search terms [at peak cost of living crunch] were 50 per cent up year on year. They are about 35 per cent up now. With that there is opportunity to pump more money into search to capture demand. So, I've absolutely been doing that,” she says. “But what I've been doing is writing business cases to say … we don’t touch brand … because if you haven't got that awareness, consideration, if you're not building trust in your brand – especially in insurance – then people won't convert in the lower levels anyway.” Legendary adman Sir John Hegarty couldn’t agree more. “The trouble is we live in a bubble called commerce, and the people out there don't – they live in a world called ‘engage me, entertain me’,” he says. It’s a challenge Val Morgan Cinema’s Guy Burbidge has been wrestling with for cinema. There’s an "awful lot more measurement conversations” which Burbidge says is a "good thing ... but it’s an increasingly binary conversation about reach and cost and not the power of a [media] platform and creativity. “We've gone down too much science, arguably, with too many ones and zeros and cost and reach and algorithms. The next piece of work for us is talking to the creative community to understand how do you take advantage of those cultural moments created by movies and cinema as they come up.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode, Linda converses with Jenny Haysom (2.48) about her novel Keep (published by Anansi). Featuring three main characters, the narrative is driven by the conflict that emerges when Harriet, an elderly poet, is diagnosed with the onset of dementia and must face selling her house -- and the two home stagers, Eleanor and Jacob, tasked with emptying it of its contents. Both Eleanor and Jacob are drawn into Harriet's world and the questions around what we keep, what we throw away, and what we value and why. It becomes clear why Haysom refers to this Victorian-esque novel as "a ghost story without ghosts."The discussion also turns toward Haysom's literary debut as a poet and her collection Dividing the Wayside (4.15, published by Palimpsest Press) and the difference between writing poetry and writing novels (4.32). Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
As a huge fan of books about houses and home, I fell in love with Jenny Haysom's debut novel KEEP and was swept away by this story of three lives connected by the very unlikely occupation of real estate home staging, this inspired by Jenny's own experience with this job a long time ago, as she explains to me in our BOOKSPO conversation. And this was a conversation I enjoyed in particular because Jenny's BOOKSPO pick is a book by one of my all-time favourite authors, the wonderful and brilliant Carol Shields, who is due for a renaissance, Jenny asserts, and I agree entirely. Pickle Me This is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. In our discussion, Jenny makes the case for SWANN being one of Shields' best novels (I required a bit of convincing!) and talks about her favourite parts of the book, especially the Emily Dickinson connection, which found its way into KEEP. She tells me what she had to learn in order to make the transition from poetry to fiction, what she learned about fiction (and life itself!) from Carol Shields, and confesses that she wishes readers would pay as much attention to the language in her fiction as in her poetry, as her choices there are just as careful and deliberate. A timely tale of ownership and loss, loneliness and connection, and a meditation on all the stuff in our lives.Home staging is an art of erasure. But in some cases—no matter how much clutter you remove, or how many coats of white paint you apply—stains bleed through, and memories rise from the walls like ghosts. Harriet, an elderly poet whose eccentricities have been compounded by years of living alone, must sell her beloved house. Having been recently diagnosed with dementia, she is being moved into a care facility against her wishes. When stagers Eleanor and Jacob are hired for the job, they quickly find themselves immersed in Harriet's brimming and mysterious world, but as they struggle to help her, their own lives are unravelling.Keep is a meditation on all the stuff in our lives—from the singular, handcrafted artifact to indelible, mass-produced plastics. As Jenny Haysom excavates the material of our domestic spaces, she centres the people within them and celebrates the power of memory, even when it falters.JENNY HAYSOM has published her writing in magazines across Canada. Her debut poetry collection, Dividing the Wayside, won the Archibald Lampman Award and was shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Jenny lived in Ottawa for nearly thirty years, on the unceded, ancestral lands of the Algonquin Nation, and has recently returned to Nova Scotia, in Mi'kma'ki, where she grew up. Content advisory: this episode makes mention of the sexual assault and murder of a child. Please take care if listening. In this special update episode of Admissible, Tessa Kramer returns to the mic to explore the aftermath of our 12-part series. Our investigation exposed the Virginia state crime lab's mishandling of a whistleblower's allegations against Mary Jane Burton, the lab's long-time Chief Serologist. Since our initial reporting, the Virginia Department of Forensic Science and its Scientific Advisory Committee have taken steps to confront the fallout. This episode highlights the case of Marvin Grimm, who spent 45 years in prison. The egregious nature of Burton's flawed evidence in this case not only clears Grimm's name, but also underscores the urgent need for the lab to take more drastic action in responding to our concerns about Mary Jane Burton. Audio of Mary Jane Burton testimony is from the Jens Soering trial. It's not often Suncorp's CMO Mim Haysom is mentioned in the same conversation as Leonardo da Vinci but the latter's rare ability to combine creative and analytical thinking is what 50 Australian CMOs working with WPP were briefed on recently as the next frontier for business growth and their own professional cred and advancement. Indeed, Marc de Swaan Arons, a former Unilever marketer who co-founded the non-profit Institute for Real Growth [IRG] - backed globally by Google, Meta, WPP and Tata Consulting - says there's a ‘massive opportunity' for marketers to increase influence and impact with executive leadership colleagues via ‘humanised growth'. How? In this instance, it's by customer-minded marketing bosses offering their strategy and insights nous to help build out divisional and all-of-company stakeholder-employee management blueprints and programs. It may seem fanciful and foreign to already stretched marketing remits but a new global study by IRG across 450 CEOs, CFOs, CMOs and HR leads suggests the notion would be welcomed by company leaders and seen as a credibility enhancer for marketers - if they don't turn it into a land grab on colleagues. Suncorp's Haysom and Piedmont Healthcare's CMO Douwe Bergsma (US) are already front-running the trend, says de Swaan Arons, who also injects some cool pragmatism into the ESG, DE&I and purpose programs often championed by marketing teams. He cites the raging success and subsequent reality check for marketers working on Dove's acclaimed Campaign for Real Beauty rollout in 2004 - within two years of that launch, it was in trouble. Purpose had usurped product development. Here's more from de Swaan Arons and the Institute for Real Growth's new study.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Steve and Cat discuss mid-season of the NFL. Is it turning into a game of smoke and mirrors, or is everything going to plan? Niccolò Machiavelli is our political SOB of the week. We talked about "Till Death Do Us Part: Soering vs. Haysom" on Netflix. Shot of the week is the SoCo LIme shot.
Jens Söring, usually rendered in English as Jens Soering, (born 1 August 1966, in Bangkok, Thailand) is a German convicted double murderer. In 1990, he was convicted in Virginia, United States of America of murdering the parents of his then-girlfriend, Elizabeth Haysom. For her role in the deaths, Haysom was convicted of two counts of accessory before the fact to murder. In prison, Soering claimed he was not guilty. After fourteen parole requests and numerous petitions for a gubernatorial pardon - all unsuccessful - he was released on probation and deported to Germany in 2019. Söring appears on talk shows, has an exclusive contract with Netflix and uses his case in the media. In Germany, for legal reasons, Soering is not allowed to accuse his ex-girlfriend of the crime. Instead, Soering portrayed himself as a victim and critic of an unjust US justice system. Jens Söring has published eight books and works as a speaker and consultant. After his deportation to Germany, he was a guest on numerous well-known German talk shows. In Germany, for legal reasons, he is not allowed to accuse his ex-girlfriend of the crime. This makes it difficult to engage with him directly and critically. Instead, Soring portrayed himself as a victim and critic of the system who defends himself against the injustice of the US justice system. In autumn 2023 Soering appeared in an exclusive “Netflix“-Special.

In June 2023, Daniela Hillers is heading to Washington for a trip back in time. The shocking double murder of Derek and Nancy Haysom in 1985 rocked the peaceful town of Lynchburg in the state of Virginia. The suspects in this case are Elizabeth Haysom, the daughter, and her then-boyfriend, Jens Söring, the son of a German diplomat. Their hasty departure from the USA raised suspicions that they might be involved in the Haysom couple's murders. This sets off a daring journey across Asia and Europe, ultimately leading to their arrest and detention. During her investigation, Daniela gains access to the evidence room and archives, conducts exclusive interviews, and talks to locals. It becomes clear that the shock from those past murders still lingers, and opinions about "the German guy" remain divided. Due to the international nature of the case, the original voices of Daniela and Ralph were replaced with English AI voices so that English-speaking listeners can also enjoy the podcast. However, in Episode 10, you will hear the original voices of the two hosts. If you want to learn more about the Jens Soering case, Investigator Chuck Reid shares his perspective in an exclusive report. He delves into observations and evidence that didn't even come to light during the original trial. For more information, check out: www.soering-case.com Learn more about your ad choices. “DNA tests solve the case.” How often do we read headlines like this today? In the 2020s, DNA plays an essential role in criminal investigations and trials. But in the Jens Soering case, new DNA findings and expert opinions are hotly contested decades after the trial and years after his release. Does the genetic evidence from 2022 say something different than the serological evidence in 1990? What information do the DNA traces found at the scene of the Haysom murders provide about Jens Soering as a possible perpetrator? Does the absence of DNA at the crime scene prove the absence of a suspect? More on this in this episode of the podcast “The Jens Soering Case – A New Verdict.” Due to the international nature of the case, the original voices of Daniela and Ralph were replaced with English AI voices so that English-speaking listeners can also enjoy the podcast. However, in Episode 10, you will hear the original voices of the two hosts. The trailer for "The Jens Soering Case: A New Verdict" Cold-blooded killer or victim of injustice? Naive nerd and lifesaver or calculated double murderer of his then-girlfriend's parents? In this 10-part podcast series, the two hosts, Daniela Hillers and Ralph Guise-Ruebe, take a critical look at the murder case from the 1980s: the murder of the Haysom couple in Virginia in 1985, which for decades has also become the "Jens Soering case." Could there be an indictment and conviction based on the evidence today? Was the 1990 trial lawful? What are the differences between the USA and Germany? In addition to Jens Soering himself, a total of 14 experts on the case are featured, including best-selling author John Grisham, former crime scene investigator Chuck Reid, and a former friend and co-inmate of Elizabeth Haysom, all of whom provide insightful insider knowledge. After very publicly advocating for the innocence of a man named Jens Soering, who spent over 30 years in prison for a double murder he says he didn't commit, we encountered new information that gave us serious reason to doubt his innocence, and we found ourselves in ethical dilemma. This led us to connect with journalist Andrew Hammel to give a fair heaing to the case for Jens Soering's guilt. Before encountering this new information, we released two other projects featuring Jens Soering: Our previous interview with Jens Soering on Labyrinths: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/47-the-ultimate-putz-jens-soering/id1494368441?i=1000557496553 Our podcast series about the Haysom murders on The Truth About True Crime https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/killing-for-love-the-catalyst/id1439490091?i=1000440039285 Get early access to ad-free episodes, bonus content, and more by supporting Labyrinths on patreon. www.patreon.com/knoxrobinson www.knoxrobinson.com Twitter: @amandaknox | @manunderbridge IG: @amamaknox | @emceecarbon Learn more about your ad choices.

SOUTH SUDANThe UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) joins the South Sudanese Government in expressing grave concern over reports that four officers from the rebel South Sudan People's Movement/Army (SSPM/A) have been summarily executed in Mayom County, Unity State, in the north of the country. The executions, which took place on 7 August, were allegedly in response to a 22 July attack by the SSPM/A on the Mayom County Commissioner. Nicholas Haysom, the Secretary-General's Special Representative for South Sudan, said that anyone who is suspected of a crime must be subject to a proper trial as part of a fair judicial process. He added that extrajudicial killings must be condemned because they cannot be a basis for restoring law and order. Mr. Haysom stressed the importance of building strong local justice systems across South Sudan.MALIIn response to questions from media, we want to clarify the authorship of the final report by the Panel of Experts of the Sanctions Committee on Mali, which is due to be published today. This document is drafted by independent experts appointed under Resolution 2590 (2021), relating to the sanctions regime, to report directly to the sanctions committee established under Resolution 2374 (2017) and the Security Council on their findings. They operate under a process that is distinct from the mandate provided by the Security Council to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). Their report is not a MINUSMA report.GRAINSAnd, just to clarify, related to a question raised yesterday, related to the grain deal and a possible discount afforded to Turkey's purchase of Ukrainian grain. We did much research, as much research as possible, and I can tell you that there was no discount built into the Black Sea Grain Initiative agreement that was signed in Istanbul. Furthermore, we are not aware of any other agreement that would guarantee such a discount.

In this episode, Anne bakes up a delicious Strawberry Swirl Pound Cake. The recipe calls for Almond Extract and Kill Vanilla. Anne deviates and uses yummy strawberry jam. Karen recounts a double murder in Bedford County, VA, which is near Lynchburg, VA. Then, Anne gives us the terrifying murders by the Dating Game Killer, Rodney Acala, whose victims are vast and there are still more out there unidentified. The case Karen covers in Virginia is the Haysom Murders where a rebellious University of Virgina freshman and her college boyfriend plot the demise of her parents simply because she is spoiled and wants her way. The sisters don't agree with the name given to the Dating Game Killer because he was only on one episode and even though he won, the woman who picked him had the sense to not actually go on a date with him. They do agree that boob biting is never acceptable in any scenario. They respectfully pay homage to Robin Samsoe, who was an unfortunate victim of Rodney Acala, but it was her murder that led to the solving of many others that actually got Rodney tried and convicted, even though there are many victims of his that are still unidentified. Investigators found over 900 pictures of his victims, but cannot release them because of the violence depicted of his torturing them in the pictures. In this episode we introduce Elizabeth Haysom and Jens Soering and how they met in 1984 at the University of Virginia.
Was ist dran an diesen Vorwürfen?

Telecom Service Providers have long sought to graduate beyond commoditized connectivity to business models centered around premium digital services. Telco Cloud Platform, in collaboration with Hyperscalers, is a new tack for operators to earn premiums from services delivered at the edge. But do service providers understand the service models that will help them monetize new digital services from customization for micro-segments of customers and enable premium experiences? Let's find out. Our guest for today's podcast is Francis Haysom. He is a telecommunications industry veteran with stints at Ericsson, Telcordia, and Cramer Systems where he led transformation initiatives. Currently, he is a Principal analyst at Appledore where he has worked for the last four years. A Ph.D. from the University of Bath, he has deep knowledge of the impact of software in the telecommunications industry and on the business strategies of service providers. In our discussion today, we will uncover a few things: - The importance of cloud platforms in service provider's strategy to drive business in the new world of private enterprise networks, 5G, and digital services - How can service providers collaborate with Hyperscalers and IT ecologies to innovate and generate revenues from new services? - What resources, technologies, and skillsets they can draw on to make their partnerships with Hyperscalers mutually beneficial? So, without further ado, let us welcome Francis Haysom.

Sunday Sermon 1st August 2021 - Ps Rod Haysom shares for the first week of this month's topic "Soul Winning" For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! [1 Corinthians 9:16 ESV] You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 NKJV 18 Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All authority of the universe has been given to me. 19 Now wherever you go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 20 And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.” Matthew 28:18-20 TPT When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting Acts 2:1-2 ESV he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. Psalm 104:4 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. In 2018, a volunteer from the RAFT wrote a letter to the Virginia governor and to one of the original investigators in the Haysom murders stating she believed Jens Soering was wrongfully convicted. She cited incriminating conversations volunteers at the shelter overheard between Shifflett and Albright including reference to a "rich bitch" who'd refused to pay. She has refused all interviews since writing those letters until now. For the first time, that volunteer, Sandra Thornton, talks publicly about the night the two men checked into the RAFT. Who were these men, and could they have been involved? We track them down to a Virginia prison, where they had both been sent to serve life sentences, and we find another surprising source: William Shifflett's son. He has plenty to say about his father, who he says was anything but a drifter.Written and reported by Rachel Ryan and Courteney StuartHosted and sound production by Jaclyn PiermariniSound editing by Taylor Thomas
Like Telstra CMO Jeremy Nicolas two weeks ago, Suncorp’s marketing and brand boss Mim Haysom says "we haven't cut our marketing budgets and have no intention of doing that”. An 18-month effort by Haysom to convince Suncorp's leadership and board to view long-term investment in brand and marketing as a growth driver has paid off. Mark Ritson says Haysom is "a 1-in-100 marketer” as he joins up with ADMA to launch a 12-week work-from-home "Marketing Masterclass” series later this month. But…they do don the gloves for a light stoush over marketing’s obsession with communications.
Jens Soering and Elizabeth Haysom were granted parole in November of 2019 after serving more than three decades in prison. But the parole board also ruled that Soering’s claims of innocence are without merit, and he was denied a pardon by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. In the eyes of the law, Jens Soering murdered Derek and Nancy Haysom, and officials in Bedford County maintain the case is closed. But the parole board investigation was done in secret so it’s unknown if any additional DNA testing was done of crime scene evidence. That leaves some unanswered questions, like who are the two men who left blood at the crime scene? Retired Charlottesville detective Richard Hudson has reviewed the case and wonders if the Haysom murders could be tied to a gruesome stabbing murder that took place not far from the Haysoms' home within days of their murders. Two men were convicted of that crime. Those two men, Robert Albright and William Shifflett, also had a suspicious encounter with a Bedford deputy within days of the Haysom murders. There are others who may have information about the murders including an auto shop owner in Bedford who says he had an encounter with Elizabeth when she and an unidentified man retrieved a car from his shop that was covered in blood. There’s also Elizabeth's roommate at the University of Virginia who helped her write an alibi in the days after the murders. And a volunteer from the homeless shelter where Albright and Shifflett stayed in the days after the brutal stabbing reveals the two men made some troubling comments about killing three people, not one. Hawes Spencer, a journalist who has done years of in depth reporting on the Haysom murders, weighs in on the parole announcement and lack of transparency in the case. Officials in Bedford County are convinced that Jens Soering is guilty of brutally murdering Derek and Nancy Haysom in their home in 1985, even though new DNA testing suggests two unidentified men were at the crime scene. The refusal of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office to reopen the case and test additional evidence for DNA has frustrated many people, including a former lead investigator in the Haysom murders. Elizabeth Haysom has kept largely quiet since her conviction of accessory to murder before the fact in her parents murders in 1987. However, she did speak out after the new DNA revelations in 2016 and doubled down on her claims that her boyfriend, Jens, killed her parents. She told a newspaper reporter that suffering years of sexual abuse was the reason she wanted her parents her dead. Amanda Knox, the foreign exchange student who spent four years in an Italian prison for murdering her roommate before having her conviction overturned, dedicated a season of her podcast, The Truth About True Crime, to the Haysom murders. She weighs in on the case and talks about her connection to Elizabeth and Jens.Sound production by Taylor Thomas
The weekend Derek and Nancy Haysom were brutally murdered in their home in Bedford County, their youngest daughter Elizabeth and her boyfriend, Jens Soering, had rented a car and driven to Washington, DC. After the killings, Elizabeth maintained Jens drove the 200 miles from Washington to Bedford County to confront her parents about their disapproval of their relationship and ended up stabbing them to death. But Jens has a very different story to tell. From behind bars at the Buckingham Correctional Center in Virginia, Jens gives his version of events that night in March 1985 and the days and months after the crime. He explains why he falsely confessed to murdering the Haysoms and how a DNA discovery supports his innocence. An attorney working pro bono for Jens discusses his 1990 trial in Bedford and several issues related to the Haysom murder investigation.
In 1985 Jens Soering and Elizabeth Haysom were bright, promising students at the University of Virginia when Haysom's parents were found brutally murdered in their Bedford County home. The young couple became the prime suspects in the crime and fled the country. They were arrested in London several months later, and British detectives found some disturbing letters. Haysom pleaded guilty to being an accessory before the fact in her parents' murders and testified against Soering, saying he committed the murders because her parents didn't approve of their relationship. Forensic evidence presented at the trial sealed Soering's fate, and he was sentenced to two life sentences for the murders. But not everyone was convinced Soering could have committed the crimes.
Despite the pleasurable excitement and excess of youth that Yoyo shows us, these poems are also laced with the insecurity and fear of growing up on a planet which may not outlast you; and the societal fissures that flow from that. In Yu’s poetic world, nature is necessary and liberating, but it is not the beautiful, timeless vision we see in classical Chinese poetry. In 1985, socialites Derek and Nancy Haysom were brutally murdered in their home in Lynchburg, Virginia. The suspects were two young lovers; the first, the victims’ own daughter, a beautiful and aloof young woman; the second, her boyfriend, the dorky son of a German diplomat. She accused him of carrying out the murders for her sake. He, in turn, accused her. They’ve both been in prison for the last 33 years. In this episode, Amanda Knox dives deep into the tangled web of dark secrets surrounding the Haysom murders, and finds chilling echoes of her own case.
Deanna Haysom Show Notes Growing up in a rural community in Saskatchewan, Canada, Deanna had an introduction to the entrepreneurial lifestyle at a very young age. With over 20 years of experience in sales and marketing in both the private and public sector, she attributes her upbringing to many of her life successes as it has been hands-on experience and an intuitive drive that guided her into her current role as Owner and Creative Director of tag concepts. Her company, tag, focuses on working with clients that are seeking authentic branding for themselves or their companies. Most passionate about We are extremely excited about helping our clients learn who they are. At the same time, I’m really passionate about bringing people together that are really great at what they do and giving them the opportunity to continue to expand those strengths so they become even better. I guess it’s the collaboration that I appreciate. So, mainly bringing in these industry experts, honing in on their amazing skills and strengths and then giving them the opportunity to continue to thrive. Deanna’s best advice about customer focus, marketing, and sales First thing that comes to mind is: be a solution for the customer. Often the customer is out there with some sort of problem or some question in mind, and if you can be that trusted advisor, providing them with solution, you instantly gain trust with them. So, thinking about what your clients, or perspective clients, maybe asking themselves then putting that out there; not in a sales way, because I don’t believe in that approach. More from a relationship based point of view, so that you have an opportunity to engage further. Biggest failure with a customer My largest failure came from not trusting my instincts with clients. Sometimes as small business owners, or as human beings, it can be scary to not trust your instincts, especially when you are a new business. Clients are coming to you and you want to make sure you have enough money to pad your account or pay your bills. And so, at times, we ignore those instincts that might be trying to tell you this isn’t the right client for you, maybe someone else could serve them better. So, at the beginning of Tag, I took on some clients that my instincts told me I shouldn’t, but I did anyway. I truly do believe that was a failure on my part. I should have said no, but I didn’t. Biggest success due to the right customer approach Answer: This particular client had gone through many struggles, like you have and like I have, where you almost feel you aren’t in the right place anymore and you don’t know if you believe in yourself any more. I provided her with some insight to help her realize she wasn’t alone and that I, myself, have gone through some of the same struggles and self-sabotage. We worked together to get past that, and then we presented a new brand, and in that brand concept that day, I saw a huge weight being lifted off her shoulders and she suddenly saw herself the same way I saw her, and the same way so many other individuals see her. She finally knew who she was and where her business could go. Deanna’s most recommended tool Answer: Our favorite tool, which is a free tool, at least, right now it is, is Trello. The reason I appreciate it is because we are bombarded by a lot of different platforms, so no matter who you are or what you do, we have phones where people are texting us, we have Facebook Messenger, plus we have Facebook, plus Instagram, we have email, we have a CRM within our company, and so there are all these notifications coming at us. The reason I chose Trello for both our team and for client communications was it’s one platform that I can invite people to put information in, so that we’re not having to go back into our emails. Deanna’s key success factor I think I would say: I look for people who love doing what they do because that means that’s their...
March 30, 1985. Bedford County, Virginia. In 1984, 18 year old Jens Soering, a German citizen, and a 20 year old woman named Elizabeth Haysom met at the University of Virginia where they were both students. They subsequently fell in love. In March of the following year, Elizabeth's parents were brutally stabbed to death at their home. At the top of the suspect list were Elizabeth and Jens. As the authorities sought to gather statements and evidence, Elizabeth cooperated while Jens did not. Once she confessed and implicated her boyfriend Jens it was simply a matter of time before he was arrested and eventually tried. Jens Soering had confessed as well, but after being dumped by Ms. Haysom he recanted. Despite his conviction for the murders of Elizabeth's parents, he has maintained that the confesion was only meant to protect his girlfriend. But what did the evidence show? If Jens didn't participate in these murders, how was he found guilty? Join us as we discuss this bizarre case of love and murder.

Former Virginia Deputy Sheriff Chuck Reid investigated a double homicide in 1984. It would be a year before the murdered couple's daughter, Elizabeth Haysom, and her boyfriend, Jens Soering, who met as students at the University of Virginia, were arrested. Soering confessed then recanted. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Haysom is serving a 90-year sentence. Soering, son of a German diplomat, has maintained his innocence for 31 years. He says he confessed to spare Haysom. Chuck Reid now believes in Soering's innocence. This interview was conducted on January 11, 2017. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
