Campbell’s shareholders approve the company’s new, soupless name

Campbell's is ditching the soup—at least in name. And the change has now received the shareholders' green light. Campbell Soup Co. announced its intention to change its name several months ago, saying it wanted to instead be known as the (slightly shorter) Campbell's Co. Shareholders overwhelmingly approved the change. In a statement, CEO Mark Clouse maintained that this “subtle yet important change” will retain the company's iconic name “while reflecting the full breadth of our portfolio.” New Jersey-based Campbell's hasn't been exclusive to the soup business for some time. The company also owns brands like Prego sauce and Goldfish crackers—and completed a $2.7 billion acquisition of Sovos Brands, the maker of Rao's pasta sauces, earlier this year. Still, the 155-year-old food seller is most famous for its namesake canned soups, adorned with red and white labels. Its new name won't change that, the company says—noting the Campbell's soup brand or packaging will not be affected. “We love soup and always will,” Clouse stated. “The iconic red and white Campbell's soup labels that consumers love will be on shelves forever.” The new name will officially be effective following an amendment filing to the company's certificate of incorporation. Campbell's is far from the first to attempt such a makeover. From Dunkin' to KFC, a handful of other food companies have also rebranded themselves over the years—often shedding the mention of a specific item they were known for with a shorter corporate title, or even an updated logo, in hopes of emphasizing other business. About a year ago, Campbell Soup Company CEO Mark Clouse made that statement during a keynote presentation to student leaders saying, "I like to seek out experiences that challenge me. I like to do things that make me a little uncomfortable and that put me in positions where I was learning…where I was trying something that I might not have been great at.” And he's right…as putting yourself in positions where you're a little uncomfortable (but where you can learn and develop as you move forward) is an essential part of what sets leaders apart. No matter what stage of your career, you must have that thirst to keep learning…looking for more inspiration, more knowledge, more mastery. And while some enhance their knowledge and skills through reading, listening to podcasts, or learning from mentors…Mark Clouse prefers a different more challenging method. Last week, Mark Clouse decided to leave The Campbell's Company (where he served as President and CEO since 2019) to become team President of the Washington Commanders. So, in essence…one day Mark Clouse is overseeing a $13 billion CPG brand portfolio, and the next he will be leading all facets of my lifelong favorite NFL team's business operations. Because even if Mark Clouse had an extremely impressive almost three-decade journey climbing the ranks of a highly competitive multitrillion-dollar industry…major U.S. pro sports organizations hiring a team president from the corporate world in general is a very rare occurrence. How does this even happen, right? It doesn't matter that Mark Clouse has no experience in professional sports…the team owner Josh Harris believes that being an accomplished business builder with a proven track record to strengthen both the organizations he leads and the communities he serves will translate successfully. But there is something that I believe is worth mentioning here…because while admiring (respecting) professional accomplishments (or personality traits) can happen from a distance in today's connected world, it's even more noticeable up close and personal. In that same keynote, Mark Clouse shared a story from early in his CPG career at Kraft Foods where he made a commitment to his future self…stating that he would be all in (showing up ready to play) regardless of what he was doing in life. And my assumption is that the leadership team at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment saw Mark Clouse consistently show up in that “all-in” manner when they were negotiating a unique marketing partnership with The Campbell's Company that was announced about 1.5 months prior. This leadership pivot happened at the intersection of my passions for CPG and sports (aka the right place), but it also happened at maybe the right time. I wholeheartedly believe that the more you learn, the more you realize that there's still so much more to learn. And while I've continued to be passionately curious everyday…I've unintentionally put limitations to my learning. With the world changing rapidly today…I believe your ability to learn new things and adapt to new circumstances is more important than ever. So, while I'm not saying that I'll be professionally pivoting to such a degree like Mark Clouse (that is unless he needs a right-hand man) haha…his decision did inspire (and challenge) me to rediscover aspects of my lifelong learning quest that I know will provide me with an even greater fulfillment. For Bruce Lee fans 2023 marks two anniversaries; both his untimely death and the release of Enter the Dragon, which would have catapulted him to worldwide superstar status had he lived to enjoy it. But Lee had been working on another project prior to his passing, surviving only in video fragments and notes. The version of “The Game of Death” released in 1978 exhibited little, if any, of Lee's original vision. Joining our own grandmaster Nathan Evans and returning champion Kevin (YouTube's StoryDive) on this episode of the Popzara Podcast is James Flower, writer, editor, and director behind The Final Game of Death, a mammoth 223 minute analysis of both the surviving footage and the philosophical methodology behind Bruce Lee's final film as part of Arrow Film's exquisite Bruce Lee at Golden Harvest Limited Edition, which also includes beautifully remastered 4K editions of The Big Boss, Way of the Dragon, Enter the Dragon, commentaries, interviews and so much more. Nate, Kevin and James gather on the field of (podcast) battle to chat about what it's like to undertake such a project, the love/hate relationship fans have with Clouse's original “The Game of Death”, how Lee's film would revolutionize and influence martial art films and videogames, shameless “Bruceploitation” clones, “sanitizing” Asian content for Western audiences, physical media vs. streaming, the importance of proper film restoration, and the timeless appeal Bruce Lee still commands around the world.

In the late 70s, a young couple set off from Florida to Texas to start their new life together. 17-year-old Tina Linn Clouse was madly in love with her new husband, Harold Dean Clouse, so she didn't hesitate to uproot her life and move to Texas when he got a new job. Today I am discussing the murders of Dean and Tina Clouse as well as the disappearance of their child, Holly. In 1980, Dean and Tina packed up their car and moved their family from Florida to Texas for Dean to pursue a better career prospect. By all accounts the small family was happy and thriving. During this time Tina would often send letters and pictures of Holly back home to their families in Florida. But in October 1980, the letters stopped.   By January 1981, Dean's mother received a phone call from a woman who identified herself as Sister Susan. Sister Susan explains that Tina and Dean decided to join their group and give up all their worldly possessions, so she'd like to return their car to her for a monetary donation of $1000. Dean's mother agrees, gets the vehicle back and spends the next 40 years agonizing over what really happened the young family.   What she didn't know was that Tina and Dean had been found deceased just weeks within in getting this phone call. And while it was obvious that Tina and Dean had been murdered, they remained unidentified for decades while no one knew that baby Holly was still missing.   In this episode you will hear two parallel timelines. You will hear about the life and disappearances of Tina, Dean, and their baby Holly. But you will also hear the timeline of when Tina and Dean were found deceased and the County's timeline of trying to identify them. Only intersecting over 40 years later when Tina and Dean are finally identified, and baby Holly was found alive.   Tina and Dean Clouse were found murdered in Houston, Texas in January 1981 off Wallisville Road. Tina was 18 and Dean was 22 years old. Both were white with brown hair with Tina's hair having more of a red tint to it. The family would have been traveling in a 1978 red burgundy AMC Concord before it was returned to Dean's mother in 1981.   Anyone with information should contact the Texas Attorney General's Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit at 512-936-0742 or email coldcaseunit@oag.texas.gov For more information about the podcast and the cases discussed, visit VoicesforJusticePodcast.com   Don't forget to follow me on social media under Voices for Justice Podcast & SarahETurney   Join the Patreon family to get instant access to a library of extra content, support the show, and support these cases https://www.patreon.com/VoicesforJustice   Voices for Justice is a podcast that uses adult language and discusses sensitive and potentially triggering topics including violence, abuse, and murder. It has been determined that an infant who went missing when her parents were murdered in the 1980s has been found and identified. It took 40 years for Tina Gail Linn Clouse and Harold Dean Clouse Jr. to be positively identified by the Texas Attorney General's Office. There was a little girl named Holly who lived with Gail and Harold, but she was nowhere to be found when the bodies were discovered. Gail and Harold Clouse's deaths and Baby Holly's current location prompted the Clouse family to seek more answers. A number of law enforcement agencies worked with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to locate Holly, who was described as "alive and well" by the attorney general. It has taken Holly 42 years to learn the identities of her parents. As Holly's grandmother, Donna Casasanta, said, "Finding Holly on Junior's birthday was a birthday present from heaven." A number of other families are looking forward to meeting and connecting with a long-lost family member. KHOU-TV reports that Holly is an Oklahoma mother of five. During a press conference, Brent Webster revealed that Holly was taken into the care of a church in Arizona. The women brought Holly to the church wearing white robes and being barefoot. They identified themselves as members of a nomadic religious group. In spite of the fact that her family members are not suspected in the case, Webster enlisted the assistance of the public because the investigation has not been completed.
