Recently on Relentless Health Value, we've been tinkering around with a few recurring themes—recurring through lines—that are just true about American healthcare these days. In this episode of Relentless Health Value, host Stacey Richter speaks with Dr. Christine Hale about high cost claimants and the implications for healthcare plans in 2025 and beyond. They discuss the importance of trust in patient care, the financial incentives behind patient steering, and the critical role of timely and comprehensive data analysis. Dr. Hale emphasizes the need for an integrated approach to medical and pharmacy claims data to avoid expensive consequences and improve patient outcomes. She also shares strategies for plan sponsors to effectively manage high cost claimants through evidence-based care, appropriate treatment settings, and creative problem-solving, while underlining the importance of patient engagement and satisfaction. Too often, poor leadership in academic medicine drives people apart rather than connecting them. With that in mind, we invite Nausheen Jamal, MD, MBA, to our Faculty Factory Podcast this week to share pearls of wisdom from her own experience in building a leadership strategy aimed at bringing people together. Dr. Jamal currently serves as Professor & Harry Carothers Wiess Chair in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. By specializing in the treatment of voice, swallowing, and airway disorders, Dr. Jamal addresses issues that hinder full communication. This makes it feel as though things are truly coming full circle as she shares insights on building community and connections in this chat.   We hope you learn from her story to gain insights that help you see beyond what is in front of you and achieve great satisfaction in your own future career journey. Other important dynamics we explore in this interview include: The art of engaging in a "flow" state of work as a faculty member. Change management and adjusting your communication style to a new audience. Delegating versus simply “dumping” a workload on colleagues. Engaging faculty in the development of important administrative items, like a leave policy. “What I learned is that I have to adjust my approach to change according to the culture that is going to have to endure or undergo that change," Dr. Jamal said candidly in this interview. Think Faith and Science Don't Mix? Here's Why You're Wrong! w/ Dr. Joseph Vukov | EP 27

Time to Transform with Dr Deepa Grandon

Many believe that Christianity and science are at odds, that one undermines the other, and that people have to choose only one. But the truth is, science and faith don't just coexist—they complement each other in profound ways.  Science, in its quest for understanding the natural world, often leads us to a greater appreciation for the Creator. The beauty and precision of the universe—its fine-tuned physics—point not away from God, but directly to Him. God can be worshipped not only in the church, but also in the laboratory, as both realms reveal His order and majesty. Throughout history, even figures like Galileo believed that truth found in science supports truth found in scripture. After all, all truth is God's truth. Whether scientific or religious, truth lives in harmony. How, then, do science and faith coexist? In our humanity, we grasp only a limited piece of the truth, but God's perspective encompasses all. How do we integrate the two realms in our own understanding?  In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Joseph Vukov, a writer, speaker, and Associate Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago, who explores the intersection of ethics, science, and religion. He'll share how science can enrich our faith, not diminish it, and how we can love God and science at the same time.   Things You'll Learn In This Episode  -God's POV vs. the human perspective  As humans in a fallen world, our understanding of the Universe is limited. Is that why so many people struggle to see the harmony between science and religion?  -Faith isn't sub-rational, it's supra-rational  Some people think the realm of faith exists underneath the realm ruled by science. How does faith go beyond reason and intellect?  -The deliberate Godly design behind the science of our Universe The Universe's design isn't a case against God's presence, but rather a strong sign of it. What does the fine-tuning argument reveal about the order of creation? Guest Bio Dr. Joseph Vukov is a writer, speaker, and Associate Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. He is also the Associate Director of the Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage. Dr. Vukov's research explores questions at the intersection of ethics and the cognitive sciences, and at the intersection of science and religion. In the journey of following Christ, it's important to realize that we're engaged in a spiritual battle, not just for our souls but also for our bodies. Taking responsibility for our health isn't merely a personal choice—it's an act of spiritual resistance against the forces of evil.  Toxins, chemicals, junk food, and substances are not just physical threats—they are strategies of spiritual warfare designed to weaken the body of Christ. When we align our physical health with our spiritual health, we stand in resistance to these attacks and become stronger vessels for God's work. The value of taking care of our bodies isn't just backed by science, it's also in scripture.  Overcoming struggles with self-control, whether they are addictions or unhealthy habits, isn't just a matter of willpower - it's a matter of warfare. The more we take care of our health, the better we will be at resisting the devil and overcoming his schemes. How do we align our physical health with our spiritual well being?  Why does the enemy want us unhealthy and physically compromised? In this episode, I'm joined by speaker, radio host, director of White Horse Media and author of 30+ books including “The End Times Health War”, Pastor Steve Wohlberg. He shares how being healthy helps us have victory over the enemy.     Things You'll Learn In This Episode  -Why the enemy wants us unhealthy  The Devil is always coming up with schemes to manipulate us. How does this play out in our physical health?    -Don't die before your time  Many people think that we can't do anything to influence how long we'll live. What does The Word say about premature death?   -The antidote for addictions  From devices to substances and food, every addiction has a spiritual component. Why do we need the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to overcome them? Guest Bio Pastor Steve Wohlberg is a speaker, radio host, director of White Horse Media and author of 30+ books including “The End Times Health War”. A Jewish Christian from Los Angeles, Mr. Wohlberg has earned a B.A. degree in Theology from La Sierra College (Riverside, CA) and his Masters of Divinity degree from Andrews Seminary (Berrien Springs, MI). We've all heard the phrase, “Sleep is for the weak,” and in today's fast-paced world, it might seem like a badge of honor to function on minimal sleep. You may also have heard people say, "If I can get by on 6 hours or less of sleep, I must be tough." Or you've said, "I can catch up on sleep over the weekend." These are just a few of the sleep myths that continue to circulate in our fast-paced society, myths that can drown out the truth and prevent us from getting the rest we truly need.  But what if these widely-held beliefs are dangerous myths that are costing us our health? The science of sleep tells us that sleep is not just rest – it's a biological necessity and a key pillar of our overall well-being. What are the biggest misconceptions about sleep health?  In this episode, I'll break down the most common sleep misconceptions, and reveal the truth behind them. In the journey to improving our health, diet and exercise are considered the paramount activities that lead to transformation. While focusing on those two areas is important, we also need to prioritize spiritual growth.  In order to experience physical transformation, we have to transform spiritually and mentally first. That's why I developed a program with 6 pillars, and took a more holistic approach that tends to your entire being. Everyone wants to be healthier, but implementing lasting change is easier said than done.  When we bring God into the process, and stop striving in our own power, it gets easier. God is able to give us strength when it gets hard, and that spiritual aspect actually cascades into all the other aspects of improving ourselves.  How do you set yourself up for lasting success when it comes to health? How do you build solid habits that can withstand disruptions in your routine?  In this episode, I'm joined by one of my clients, Harsha Jayatunge. He shares his experience in the TLC 6 Pillar program, lessons he learned and what he's done to implement long term change and transformation.  Things You'll Learn In This Episode  -The piece that ties it all together  Committing to lifestyle changes can be challenging if we don't bring God into the process. We can't do it on our own strength. How does the spiritual aspect of the 6 pillars make it easier for us to achieve our health goals? -How to make good habits stick How do we bake our habits in so that when our lives or routines are disrupted, it's easier to get back on the wagon?  -Setting yourself up for lasting success Attaining better health isn't just about taking the right medications and eating the right types/amounts of food. Why does mindset play such a huge role in the process? Guest Bio Harsha Jayatunge is the Executive Head of Financial Markets Solutions, Corporate & Investment Banking Group, Treasury Sales at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. He has 25 years Financial Markets and Global Markets experience in the Middle East and North Africa both in Corporate and Financial Institution segments. Human trafficking is one of the greatest challenges facing our world today, with millions of men, women, and children affected globally. The trauma it inflicts not only devastates individual lives but entire communities as well. Yet, even in the midst of such darkness, there is hope—hope that the Church can bring through the light and love of Jesus. During this Advent season, we are reminded of the Church's calling to step into the hardest battles, offering healing, restoration, and freedom. Ministries around the world are rising to this challenge, working to prevent human trafficking and help survivors rebuild their lives. Just as the Body of Christ has many parts, there are many ways we can join in this mission. From providing economic empowerment to delivering mental health services, the Church is equipping itself to be a powerful force in combating this evil. Together, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus, offering hope where it's needed most. In this special episode, I'm joined by leaders of organizations making a difference in the fight against human trafficking. We'll discuss their initiatives, the impact they're having, and how the Church can continue to be a beacon of hope during this Advent season. Things You'll Learn In This Episode  -A vision aligned through Scripture  The church plays a huge role in impacting the lives of vulnerable people. How are organizations like ACT Bombay and The Sahara Foundation answering God's call? -How to reduce the vulnerability to human trafficking There are many things that lead people into the snare of human trafficking. What steps can we take to prevent them?  -How to help survivors thrive  Human trafficking survivors struggle with after effects long after being set free from bondage. When it comes to health, some of the most common issues are also the most misunderstood. Very often, the popular ideas people believe are actually more myth than fact - more fiction than science. For example, the belief that a condition like urticaria is caused by food or environmental factors, when it actually isn't. Or the belief that intense exercise is the only kind of exercise with real benefits, and finally, the confusion between food intolerance and food allergies. There are many misconceptions that drown out the truth and hold you back from health. How do we separate science from fiction in these areas? In this episode I share 3 common health misconception, and reveal the truth about them.   About Your Host Hosted by Dr. Deepa Grandon, MD MBA, triple board-certified physician with over 23 years of experience working as a Physician Consultant for influential organizations worldwide. This Podcast offers a pathway to continuing education via this CMEfy link: https://earnc.me/97u19s At the age of 32, Dennis Mihale, MD, made a decision that changed the course of his professional life. Although he was enjoying an exciting, rewarding career at IBM, he took a leave of absence and entered the School of General Studies at Columbia University to complete the prerequisites for medical school. With the support of his family, Mihale was accepted at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Clearly a non-traditional applicant at the age of 35, he was grateful for the school's confidence in his potential. Mihale soon proved himself to his colleagues and teachers. While in medical school, Mihale applied his background in engineering to design a flexible knee orthotic through a project sponsored by NASA. For his post-graduate training, he returned to his native New York to do a surgical internship and an orthopedic residency. He then took a year off to work at the IBM Research Center to develop an engineering model for robotic surgery. Under his direction, the project was completed, and the robot is currently used for hip replacement surgeries at the University of California at Davis. In 1990, Dr. Mihale continued his professional development and entered the Executive MBA Program at the University of South Florida. He subsequently helped to launch a health maintenance organization, and in January 1994, he started St. Augustine Health Care, a Medicaid and commercial HMO. The business prospered and ultimately achieved $30 million in annual revenues. St. Augustine was recently acquired by AvMed, and Dr. Mihale retired from that venture. Today, Dr. Mihale maintains a strong connection to the medical school and provides financial support, sponsors regional alumni meetings, and serves on the Dean's Leader-ship Cabinet. He is also involved in the development of a community clinic through his work with Tampa's Metropolitan Ministries. -=+=-=+=-=+= Are you a doctor struggling to provide the best care for your patients while dealing with financial and caregiving matters out of the scope of your practice?
