*****ANNOUCEMENT*****Join us for the first ever Not A Diving Club at fabric in London on Thursday 24 Oct.Full details to follow but this will be a FREE ENTRY EVENT but you must be on the advance signup list to get in -> sign up here. The term 'underground hero' is often bandied about the dance scene with not much of a definition and in many cases an inappropriate target. But this week's guest is very much a plausible recipient of the accolade.A veteran of the techno scene in London since the cutting his teeth as a teenager in the early 90s, Jerome Hill has made the records, played the gigs, run the labels, and served records from the behind the counter of shops including the seminal Dragon Discs in Camden Town.We get into the mid 90s squat party scene in this episode, a key aspect of UK techno and something which I was very much aware of at the time but didn't experience at all first hand. And we also get a eye witness account of the legendary south London venue Club UK, which was closed down after years of police raids and controversy in 1996.This is a great conversation with an important figure in UK techno, you're gonna enjoy it!If you're into what we're doing here on the pod then you can support the show on Patreon! There are two tiers - "Solidarity" for $4 a month, which features the show without ads, regular bonus podcasts, and extra content. And "Musicality" which for a mere $10 a month gets you all the music we release on Hotflush and affiliate labels AND other music too, some of which never comes out anywhere else. You can also make a one-off donation to the podcast using a card, with Paypal, or your Ethereum wallet! We premiere new music from Austrian artist Peletronic as he features on RFR Records for a 4 track EP featuring a remix from electro royalty DMX Krew. We host ‘Sry I‘m Dazed AF' a vintage Miami-inspired electro cut that draws on gliding chords and pounding 808 punches. We premiere new music from RFR Records, one of the leading imprints in contemporary electro-funk. With previous releases from seminal artists such as DJ Hell, Zenker Brothers, Posthuman, Jerome Hill, and more, the label has been relentlessly pushing out top-tier electro and bass. The label now welcomes Vienna native Peletronic to the fold as he features with a four-track EP of slamming electro, and he's not afraid to get down and dirty. Best known for his tender excursions in classy deep house grooves, Peletronic turns his head to the sun-soaked Miami coast for a rough-edged electro EP. Peletronic manages to intertwine the lush chords and rich synth sweeps of his house music roots into a grittier electro package. ‘Sry I'm dazed AF' is a smoked-out ode to hazy days following a jaunt on the dancefloor. Peletronic clutches onto his deep house roots as shimmering chords trickle over ferocious 808 thuds. Peletronic blurs the lines between the plush sounds of Detroit and the raunchy Miami groove to devastating effect. This is where Moodyman & Egyptian Lover meet for a funk-driven night on the beer, and we can't get enough of it. In this episode, we welcome shapeshifting DJ, producer and activist Lauren Flax. Lauren began her career in the underground Detroit music scene where she evolved her style into techno, house, and electro music. More recently she is producing and recording her own music and we are pleased to showcase some of her music throughout this episode. She began her DJ career in the underground dance and rave scenes of Detroit as a resident at the Motor Lounge. Flax played the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 on the Motor stage. While originally starting off as a jungle DJ, Flax evolved her style into techno, house, and electro music. Flax moved to Chicago in 1999, where she honed in on music production while continuing to DJ. By 2002, she relocated to New York City which shortly followed the release of her first remix, "Much Finer" for Le Tigre. In 2019, Flax joined the mostly Detroit-born New York collective The Bunker New York, on which she released "One Man's House is Another Woman's Techno EP" (2019). The EP was highly successful and sold out quickly.More recently she linked up with UK rave veterans Jerome Hill and Posthuman, putting out suitably club-ready fare on their respective Super Rhythm Trax and Balkan Vinyl labels. She has also found the time to release Out Of Reality, Flax's new EPa record that sits at the opposite end of the electronic spectrum.Right now, her activism is dedicated to making the Rave scene safer in the most fundamental of ways by hosting invaluable harm reduction classes and overdose response training. You can follow Lauren on Spotify and Instagram @laurenflaxSupport the show
Today we premiere a remix from none other than the master that is, Jerome Hill. The Don't Label boss man comes in hot and heavy with broken techno massacre rendition of ALNA's original, Jerome Hill at his finest. London-based ALNA plays, produces and promotes bass-heavy techno, old school, acid, rave and breaks. Her musical journey started in her hometown Turin, where, since teenage years, she studied music, had a vocal coach and played and performed in multiple bands and in the theatre. These days she is constantly evolving and makes regular appearances at clubs, warehouses and festivals across the UK and Europe. Her new label is also an event series in London and will serve up a mix of new school stars and original pioneers. The events evolved from ALNA's Hypnosis parties that started in 2018 and left their mark in various East London locations. The don Jerome Hill jumped on a remix for the release and put his classic funky spin on the original. Jerome came up through the illegal London warehouse scene of the 90s. He is a master of funk and runs labels including Don't, Super Rhythm Trax and Hornsey Hardcore, and is an artist that represents DJing in its most vivid, creative and versatile form. Jerome's take on the original playful but, no less brutal. The drums are broken up, fizzing synths whip about with dystopian energy and eerie pads add a sense of depth to the track. This is a masterclass. Our first premiere of the week is a match made in heaven as Serbian techno connoisseur Lag teams up with Jerome Hill's imprint, Don't for a powerful 4 track EP. We premiere the track ‘Frka Frka' a sub trembling club tool, this one is absolutely off the charts. Serbian techno master Lag has been a favourite of mine for a very long time and his music has been a staple in my DJ sets for quite some time. The esteemed techno producer and DJ boasts a distinct sound that is characterised to be rhythmic, bassy, playful and groovy. The broken techno boss has featured on acclaimed labels such as Mord, Elements, Upperberry, THEM & more. Lag's distinctive sound has made him a favourite for DJ's over the years. The Serbian native also boasts a very reputable DJ career with podcasts on Hate, Slam Radio, DJ Mag and more. The skilled DJ can easily rock 4 decks with no compromise and all the thrills. ‘Frka Frka' is a beautiful merger between forward thinking techno and old school nuances. Lag blends classic stab sounds with rolling bass lines, rhythmic drum patterns and classic lag vocal hits. Towering synth lines fly through the mix in the later part of the track, followed by menacing white. The whole track screams extravagant, it's big and bold while remaining chic and dynamic. I tested this out in Index last weekend and it tore the place the apart. This track is made for the club and it's a monster on a system. Bside Incoming: Jerome Hill We've been incredibly excited to share this one with you all, an episode from a DJ who truly embodies the life and soul of dance music and rave culture: Jerome Hill Jerome earned his stripes in London's illegal rave scene in the 90s, with a hands on mixing style full of fast paced transitions, scratching, and some unexpected gems scattered across his sets. His prowess behind the decks, and his management of many record labels (Don't (est. 2000), Super Rhythm Trax, Bleeper, Fat Hop and Hornsey Hardcore) has often left his own productions overlooked by many. Discerning selectors, however, have long supported his tracks, making them a feature in the sets of Aphex Twin, Helena Hauf, Ben Sims, Craig Richards and so many more. For this episode, we invite you to step into Jerome Hill's Bside Bazaar, an array of oddities and collectible sounds, free from the bounds of genre, forever intriguing selections from the flip side. Enjoy! We premiere a track from techno legend today, Paul Birken. Birken has put together an analogue techno bomb for Gombocs first release on wax. Paul Birken has been putting out wonky techno classic's for the best part of 25 years. Release's such as ‘Speaker Freakin” & ‘Surfin' Superior' helped launch his 12 inches into the hands of some of techno's most coveted and technical DJ's. Paul still receives heavy support from the likes of Sunil Sharpe, Jerome Hill & Bas Mooy. More recent releases on ‘Mord', ‘Earwiggle' & ‘Don't' have helped solidify Birken's name to a newer generation. Birken still holds down his classic style of hectic, machine driven style of bleep techno. This release marks the first release on 12 inch, for Argentinian label, Gomboc. The label have been throwing out, high octane techno since 2017 and have been home to artists such as Lars Huismann, Nico Moreno, Umwelt, D. Carbone, Joe Farr, Takaaki Itoh, Lag & more. Birken shares the release with some of techno's most influential names for the Gombocs first vinyl release. The release will be home to Thomas P. Heckmann, Jerome Hill, Martyn Hare & Paul Birken himself. “Four legendary artists that influenced not only us but probably thousands of people. With their own signature sound, each track resembles a unique style. From Acid, to Rave and just pure machinery communication.” Birken's track, Poaching Pickled Parcels, is a distorted piece of machine paradise. Screaming synths lye at the forefront of the track while a pounding a kick drum does its damage. The track is complete with shuffling analogue percussion that simmers in and out of sections of the track. A true hectic piece of hectic dance music, from the king of mayhem. To coincide with the 500th episode of Canadian radio host and dedicated vinyl collector Trevor Wilkes has compiled a 15 track compilation in respect of the artists who feed his inspiration to broadcast weekly and relentlessly for the last 17 years. Since 2003 Trevor Wilkes has been committedly streaming weekly from his techno bunker in Canada - connecting with the European techno scene through mixing his collection of gritty four four. Taking lead from the school of techno set out by Cristian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm and their peers Bleep Radio has been a foundational stronghold for supporting and celebrating wonky techno and its diverging parts with a clear focus on off-kilter, ruff around the edges and hard hitting records. His support for this sound has brought him over to the UK frequently appearing on lineups for Jerome Hill’s institutional 'Don’t' parties. “This release isn't just a milestone, it’s an open love letter to all of you whose music I play and will continue to play and support.” - Trevor Wilkes. From our many conversations with atheists, a pattern we've noticed is that one of the primary catalysts for a person accepting an atheistic world view is due to hypocrisy in the Church. Racism is a good example of this hypocrisy. Instead of leading the discussion, the Church as a whole has been relatively silent. From what we've been told, the silence is deafening. But I'm not racist! You may say... Listen for more. London based DJ, record collector and music nerd Christo joins our Basement line-up as part of our collaboration with Container Records on 22nd February. A huge vinyl enthusiast but not a purist, Christo's raucous track selections and quick-fire mixing have led him to upend multiple parties and festivals around the UK including Bangface Weekender, as well as his own residency for London club night Das Booty and Berlin-based party Breakxit. Having shared his bills with Jerome Hill, Dave the Drummer, Controlled Weirdness, Chris Liberator and many more, Christo also regularly plays B2B with Rory Kelly aka Rory Moronik. Down to play in the depths of the Basement with the Container crew Warlock, Altar and Rory Moronik, Christo has recorded a fiery mix to give us a taste of what to expect on the night.

TRACKLIST 1.
