TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ DAHRAXT DAHRAXT is the techno project of the electronic music artist Alessandro Mannella ( formerly known as Mannella ). Italian-born and Berlin-adopted, he expresses his multi-faceted talent producing music, DJing and performing live. Apart from being heavily influenced by the UK techno sound, DAHRAXT's musical narratives oscillate between industrial techno and distorted electro soundscapes, all the way to the more mental techno textures. Moving at a young age to Ibiza, he crafted his DJ mixing skills performing regularly at important venues like Space and throwing illegal parties around the island. Not long after, he moved to Berlin and immediately caught the attention of many, playing at the iconic Tresor basement and shaking the dancefloors of other major clubs such as About Blank, Arena and Suicide Circus, as well as hosting events at the former Griessmühle. Eventually, as one of the founders of the multidisciplinary event project ENIGMA, he brought a brand-new event concept at Tresor Club. Besides Germany, DAHRAXT has made appearances at other influential venues across Europe such as Gare (Porto) and FOLD (London) among others. Touring overseas and taking part in the underground festival circuit, DAHRAXT has performed with the likes of Ancient Methods, Ben Klock, Detroit Techno Militia, Nene H, New Frames, Tommy Four Seven, Scan7, Sunil Sharpe and many more. His unmatched dexterity in bringing the crowd into his own visionary trip and the intensity of his DJ sets allowed him to also gain a residency at the techno party Vocoder in Mexico City (2018) and most recently at ARIA, London. As a long-time vinyl collector and supporter, in 2015 DAHRAXT founded two record labels: “Jtseries”, (a techno dancefloor-oriented imprint) and “PicNic34” (having a more experimental direction). On those, he has collaborated with Blawan, Cristian Vogel, Charlton, Kucera, Santiago Salazar, Tobias, Vladislav Delay and VSK to name a few. With an arsenal of music ready to hit some of the most important music platforms out there, DAHRAXT's ever mind-expanding DJ and studio experiments are bound to be experienced by many. *The Mix was live recorded at Tresor Berlin* Follow DAHRAXT here: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mannella.dahraxt Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dahraxt/ Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/dahraxt

My guest on the show is James Ford who is really one of the most badass producers in the business. Im talking about the kind of low key English badassness and not the Tarantino variety if you know what I mean. James is involved in so many things and yet he does it without needing a big spotlight on himself. Humble badass. That's the one. He's been active for many years. I mean we used to see each other in that classic ships in the night stylee when I was touring with Cristian Vogel back in the late nineties. We are talking about a man with Multiple decades of energy dedication and knowledge a go go! He's got the quadfecta mad skills as composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter which is probably one of the reasons he's been able to be so nimble and effective working with a huge range of incredible artists from Arctic Monkeys to Depeche Mode via Foals, Gorillaz and Kylie Minogue. You may know him as one half of Simian Mobile Disco, alongside longtime creative partner Jas Shaw or perhaps as a touring member of The Last Shadow Puppets. The hat cupboard in the house is ample! I was lucky enough to feature on a track with SMD a while back and got to see the studio when it was at the Premises in Hackney. Now he's got a supreme attic room that is beyond decked out. We have a little tour of that for anyone who is curious about his gear choices after all this time. Then we get deep into the world of making, art, the hurdles, the path. The good stuff of rambling! Welcome to the mind of a sonic chef. His first solo album “The Hum” is out now on warp records and it's a corker! https://www.jamesellisford.com ________________ If you want to directly help support me in the pod work please consider joining my Patreon https://www.patreon.com/HOWA All sounds from this episode will go to those on the upper tier ! ________________ Id like to thank show sponsors SOUNDTOYS https://www.soundtoys.com KORG https://www.korg.com STAGER MICS http://stagermicrophones.com _________________ NITTY!!!

Patrizia Luchetta and Paul Bradshaw chat about Sonification + the Esch 2022 Project. Daniel Sahr reminisces about the 5 year Dubai 2020 project. Sonification is a burgeoning field of science and music. This project kicks off next weekend in Rockhal, part of Esch 2022 Capital of Culture. Plus, Daniel Sahr talks about his time in Dubai building the Luxembourg Pavilion for World Expo 2020. The Sound of Data, or sonification, can be thought of as the visualisation of data for the ears. It's a combination of science and music plus the use of big data. Patrizia Luchetta and Paul Bradshaw talk to us about the multi-faceted launch event on Sunday 1 May at Rockhal, Belval from 1400 to 1930. We'll meet a cyborg, a colour-blind man who uses a sonification implant to 'see' colours, for example. Other guests include Valery Vermeulen, Nuria Bonet, Alexandra Supper, Cristian Vogel and Cedric Fischer. There are many partners in this project including FNR, LIST, the University of Luxembourg, Rockhal and more besides. There'll be plenty on offer for children to explore and deeper discussions too. For scientists and musicians interested in taking part in the project's artist residency the information about how to apply is already online. This project will continue until 3 December 2022. World Expo Dubai 2020 Daniel Sahr, Director of the Luxembourg Pavilion for the World Expo 2020 in Dubai is just closing down this project before rapidly starting on the next for Osaka World Expo. Here, we reflect on the five year journey from standing in the sand to a set of global pavilions visited by thousands. The World Expo was one of the first big events to open post / during covid for people to start travelling and exploring again. The Luxembourg Pavilion itself saw almost 700,000 visitors - more than the population of the country!. We hear stories of a child thanking Luxembourg for helping to build his country, the UAE with steel from Belval to build the Burj Khalifa. And so it goes on. The memories of the student chefs getting the chance to cook and learn from the best in Dubai at the Pavilion. Daniel, aside from the personal celebration of getting married and about to have his first child, is already thinking and planning for Osaka 2025. For anyone interested in the tenders for applications, keep your eyes peeled for more information on the website to come! www.thesoundofdata.lu www.luxembourgexpo2020dubai.lu https://www.instagram.com/thesoundofdata/ https://www.cc.lu/
My guest today is Jamie Lidell a Grammy nominated self described Soul Scientist who has been making all manner of noise since he was a teen. His early outpourings were purest of techno until, rather unexpectedly, his voice emerged and he discovered a live looping style that took him around the world as a solo act opening as a one-man show for Beck, Bjork and James Brown. He has had several bands to play later albums and opened for Prince, Elton John and more. There was a whole lot of touring, much opening, much headlining. Much of a muchness really. Somewhat of a rambling man, he's jumped all over the place, from Brighton to Berlin to New York to his current castle dwelling in Nashville. For the hunters, there's plenty of music to be discovered, whether it's from his first 9 EPs with Subhead to 2 LPs as Super_collider (with badass weirdo Cristian Vogel) to the rare work he pushed out as George Lister to a slew of solo Lidellian activity and there's now his rather entertaining podcast of course. The pod goes by the name Hanging out with Audiophiles (although it has nothing to do with hi-fi really). The fun began in 2017 and has already featured some of the very best artists and producers in the business such as Mark Ronson, Four tet, Susan Rogers, Imogen Heap and many more. His YouTubing is showing signs of growth also. Let's see. Yes, in case you were wondering, the sonic adventures continue. One never knows what's next with this one. So great to catch up with my friend and old band mate Cristian Vogel on the show! The way I met Cristian was pretty unlikely and pretty fantastic I have to say. Basically back in around 1995 I was making music with Subhead alongside Jason Leach and Phil Wells and thanks to those guys I became aware of so much incredible music mostly from Detroit and Chicago but not exclusively as there were some wildcard artists that always caught my attention more than any others, none more so than the wonky magic conjured by Cristian Vogel. I had heard that he lived in Brighton. So I had this great idea to just go to there and meet him! I hopped on the train and went to an outdoor festival that was happening that day in the city and as I walked around the place I stumbled on a lone Tresor bag lying in the grass. I knew Cristian was signed to Tresor and so I asked the lady that was sat next to it if she was Christian's sister. She was his girlfriend ! I mean WHAT are the chances? I soon met big C and we formed a fast friendship based on mutual respect (he had played Subhead 002 at the love parade and it was a big moment ! Small world ) and I joined him sharing a space to make music in Brighton where it became immediately obvious to me his approach was something completely new to me. First of all I'd never seen anyone make music with a tracker and I understood quickly that with his experience and skill he wouldn't second-guess himself and instead would conjure his unique sound in minutes, tapping away wildly on his amiga keyboard. I realize I was in the presence of a truly unique musician and I owe him so much for all he showed me. He schooled me in the world of subtractive synthesis and taught me that it's possible to interact with machines on the same level people interact with traditional instruments. His approach was always Orthodox and his choice of equipment unfamiliar to most myself included. We formed a band called super_collider that really stretched our skills and the technology of the time. Listening back to our first album Head-on it really was quite an achievement considering what we had . By that time we moved into a more robust studio with Orbital as our neighbors but the DAW was still primitive and we would use programs like macromedia deck 2 to complete our songs. I think it was limited to 8 tracks. We pushed that shit to the brink dealing with so many crashes it's amazing we managed to finish anything. By 1999 I had moved To Berlin and shortly afterwards Cristian relocated to Barcelona. When we made our second album raw digits it was a tale of two cities and took considerable energy to complete. I had started to devote a lot of time to my solo career and super_collider sadly came to an end. Not just because of that but you know… things change. Cristian kept making amazing music of course and he's released a stack of incredible records and collaborations. At one point he created a band called “night of the brain” and kept making banging records for Tresor, Nova mute and his own Station 55 imprints to name a few. He also remixed Radiohead and Thom Yorke which still blows my mind. I got pretty heavily into Max MSP for my live shows and Cristian chose to master the Kyma system. He's now one of the worlds experts in that paradigm and has created a whole host of extensions and applications for it which can be found on his never engine in labs website His recent album rebirth of wonky sees him Effortlessly weaving his textural skills with that unique funk of his to great effect. He's never going to stop making music. He's a true lifer and a searcher. One of the true pioneers of the underground that deserves much more credit than he's received. I was very relieved that even after all this time apart, once the zoom call started and we got to talking it was like no time had passed and I hope you will enjoy as much as I did this catchup with my old friend and teacher. _NITTY I get into the 1st installment of the Binaural adventure with the Neumann head aka KU100. What an amazing mic it is! Thank you so much to my friend Vicente for letting me have a play with it ! Just incredible ! Alert ! To coincide with the 500th episode of Canadian radio host and dedicated vinyl collector Trevor Wilkes has compiled a 15 track compilation in respect of the artists who feed his inspiration to broadcast weekly and relentlessly for the last 17 years. Since 2003 Trevor Wilkes has been committedly streaming weekly from his techno bunker in Canada - connecting with the European techno scene through mixing his collection of gritty four four. Taking lead from the school of techno set out by Cristian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm and their peers Bleep Radio has been a foundational stronghold for supporting and celebrating wonky techno and its diverging parts with a clear focus on off-kilter, ruff around the edges and hard hitting records. His support for this sound has brought him over to the UK frequently appearing on lineups for Jerome Hill’s institutional 'Don’t' parties. “This release isn't just a milestone, it’s an open love letter to all of you whose music I play and will continue to play and support.” - Trevor Wilkes. Sane, Jerome Hill, Johan Platt, Ben Pest, Norman Müller, Luke’s Anger, Tobias Schmidt, Neil Landstrumm, TSR Feat. Kosmonaut J, JoeFarr, Paul Birken, SES, Tobias Schmidt, Joseph Garber and World News all form the line up for this release sharing previously unreleased tracks. Today, however, we're delighted to to premiere a track from one of the UK's finest producers and mostly highly regarded sound engineers, Joe Farr. The User Experience head honcho contributes his mysterious, dark and thumping track 'To See Her' to this really special Various Artist compilation. Born in 1980, in the small town of Havelberg in Sachsen-Anhalt / Germany. Defined by influences from the 80s New Wave sound and the dark synth-pop ( Depeche Mode ), he found his way quickly to electronic music. In 1997 T.A.G. began collecting the corresponding equipment for the task and with enthusiasm began spinning records. From 1997-1999 his sound took on the Detroit, Techno and Minimal style and thereafter the influence of Tresor Records’ artists such as Cristian Vogel and Neil Landstrumm helped him develop his current Brighton techno sound. After several years and successful gigs, in 2003 he played in Tresor New Faces night which gave him the incentive to try out for the Tresor Award. Ultimately he was selected among the top three by demonstrating his mixing and sound technique. In 2005 T.A.G. was made an official member of the Headquarters team and in 2007 a resident DJ in Club Tresor Berlin and plays for people all over the World. *The mix is an extract of the Live vinyl set from Geheimclub Germany. Cristian Vogel has been around for quite a while - with his work in dance music being many people's introduction to his work. But he's moved into the realm of sound design and expansive composition, and the work has matured into something that I'm finding really compelling. His Bandcamp site (https://cristianvogel.bandcamp.com/) will give you a great introduction to the work he's doing, and I'll be you get just as drawn in as I did. But Cristian is about to premiere a pretty serious new project: a spacial sound and theatrical performance called The Ballad of Agnete and The Merman, commissioned by the Aarhus European Capital of Culture 2017, and placed at The Åbnescene theatre at Godsbanen in Aarhus, Denmark. Cristian has been working on this piece for 18 months, and it promises to be both a compositional and technical tour de force, especially with Cristian's close cooperation with Funktion-One for the loudspeaker array, and Sonic Emotion Labs for the spacialization tools. But in our chat, we talk about everything from Cristian's move away from club culture to his embrace of the Kyma sound design system, and also about some of the frustrations in trying to carve out a life of creative and experimental musicianship. It was a fantastic view into a creative mind, and helps me further appreciate the depth of his work. Check out more about Cristian at http://www.cristianvogel.com/ Enjoy!

.defaultbox Podcast 009 - DJ T.A.G. This week we are appreciate to welcome DJ T.A.G. for our 9th podcast. Without tracklist, but you can ask us or DJ T.A.G., if you are looking for a track. More information on our website defaultbox.de/podcast or facebook.com/defaultbox. iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/de/podcast/.defaultbox-podcast/id1114718315 Listen and enjoy. -- Born in 1980, in the small town of Havelberg in Sachsen-Anhalt. Defined by influences from the 80s New Wave sound and the dark synth-pop (Depeche Mode), he found his way quickly to electronic music. In 1997 T.A.G. began collecting the corresponding equipment for the task and with enthusiasm began spinning records. From 1997-1999 his sound took on the Detroit/Techno/Minimal style and thereafter the influence of Tresor Records’ artists such as Cristian Vogel and Neil Landstrumm helped him develop his current Brighton techno sound. Starting in 1999 he began to get regular bookings and also through his own parties Ton-Art he gained a name for himself regionally. After several years and successful gigs, in 2003 he played in Tresor New Faces night which gave him the incentive to try out for the Tresor Award. Ultimately he was selected among the top three by demonstrating his mixing and sound technique. But in 2005 T.A.G. also had production plans. Before long he also had decided to build his own small studio in order to be able to transfer his individual sound to a live format for presentation. In the last few years he has been able to share this live experience with audiences at various events and clubs. Trying to find a laptop in his live-gig set-up would be hard because he sets up completely with hardware so that each performance there is something to see and watch. That makes an exciting live gig with breaking techno beats sewn together with abstract synth sounds, and embellished with live vocals. Furthermore in 2004 he began to establish a multimedia platform for acquainted regional DJs under the name Basstard-Sound-Crew, which also found subsequent web presence. With this project there are regular events with the internal artists in and outside the region. In 2007 T.A.G. was made an official member of the Headquarters team and in 2005 a resident DJ in Tresor.
