Glenn Flickinger and Todd DePastino discuss the VBC's WWII Tour of Italy in October 2026, where they will spend 14 days following the path of the Allied forces through one of the most grueling campaigns of World War II. Todd and Glenn will also talk with Italian Campaign expert, 45th Infantry Division Historian Professor David D'Andrea, who will also be joining us on our trip. We'll trace the course of the Italian Campaign, beginning with Operation Husky, the massive Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943 that opened the road to Europe's soft underbelly. From the hard-fought landings at Gela and Scoglitti to the urban battles in Palermo and the mountainous defenses near Messina, Sicily tested the courage and coordination of American and British troops. From there, the campaign moved to mainland Italy, first at Salerno, where American soldiers fought to hold their beachhead against fierce counterattacks, and then up the rugged spine of the Apennines. We'll visit key battlegrounds of Cassino, where Allied forces waged a costly struggle for control of the ancient Abbey of Monte Cassino, and Anzio, where troops endured months of shelling in a desperate bid to outflank German defenses. The campaign culminated in the liberation of Rome on June 4, 1944, two days before D-Day in Normandy. Our trip will visit these storied sites—Catania, Syracuse, Agrigento, Palermo, Salerno, Cassino, Anzio, and Rome—accompanied by historians and local guides who will help us connect the landscape to the history that unfolded there. Along the way, we'll also enjoy the beauty that drew the world to Italy long before and long after the war: the turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast, the golden temples of Agrigento, and the ancient beauty of Palermo and Rome. On July 9, Allied forces executed a massive amphibious assault. The United States Seventh Army, under General George S. Patton, landed at the Gulf of Gela, while British forces, led by General Bernard Montgomery, targeted the eastern beaches. Despite inclement weather that scattered troops and caused navigation issues, the Allies made significant early gains. American paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines to seize critical bridges, though many were met with fierce resistance and scattered widely. Dal Comune più piccolo (Morterone, 34 abitanti al 1° gennaio 2024, in provincia di Lecco) a quello più popoloso (Gela, 70.811 abitanti, in provincia di Caltanissetta), i territori interni segnano una perdita di residenti del 5% sul 2014, contro il 2,2% della media nazionale. In particolare, quelli più periferici - secondo le classificazioni Istat - registrano un calo ancora più marcato:- 7,7% , sempre nel decennio.Le strategie per mantenere vive le cosiddette aree interne, di contro, languono o sono poco concrete: per esempio, nel Ddl di Bilancio 2025 è scomparso il contributo per i piccoli Comuni, con una popolazione sotto i 1.000 abitanti, in tutto 1.383 tra quelli censiti nelle aree interne del Paese. Oggi Il Sole 24 Ore racconta in esclusiva il boom di domande anche nel primo click day dell'anno per l'ingresso di cittadini extra-Ue da destinare al lavoro subordinato non stagionale. Il copione si ripete identico: le istanze inoltrate dalle imprese a caccia di manodopera attraverso il portale Servizio Ali del Dipartimento per le Libertà civili e immigrazione del ministero dell Interno sono state 4.167 soltanto nel primo minuto dopo le 9, sono salite a 38.464 alle 9.05 e sono arrivate a 242.365 alle 18. Cinque volte e mezzo più dei circa 45mila posti in palio sui 151mila totali autorizzati per il 2024 (61.250 totali per lavoro subordinato non stagionale, 700 per lavoro autonomo e 89.050 per lavoro subordinato stagionale) dalla nuova programmazione triennale definita dal decreto legge Cutro e resa operativa dal Dpcm 27 settembre 2023.Commentiamo i dati con Enrico Di Pasquale, ricercatore Fondazione Moressa.Gas Naturale Liquefatto (GNL) in Italia crescono la filiera (+10%) e il consumo (+15%). La rete italiana è la prima in EuropaCresce, in Italia, la filiera del Gnl, il gas naturale liquefatto. I dati sono stati diffusi la scorsa settimana da Assogasliquidi-Federchimica che fa capo a Confindustria sulla base del rapporto SSLNG Watch realizzato da Mbs Consulting, società del gruppo Cerved.A dicembre 2023 sono 293 le attività con depositi di Gnl (+10% rispetto al 2022) per i diversi impieghi, soprattutto per il trasporto pesante.Considerando le sole importazioni dei primi due mesi del 2024, ed escludendo invece il gas già stoccato che ha comunque contribuito agli approvvigionamenti del Paese, in base a dati Snam il Gnl è diventato la prima fonte di importazione del gas in Italia, superando i volumi in arrivo a Mazara del Vallo dall'Algeria. Il Gnl ha raggiunto il 31,2% delle importazioni, mentre dal gasdotto di Mazara è arrivato il 30,1% del gas. A seguire Melendugno con il 18,3%, Passo Gries con il 12,9%, Tarvisio 5,4% e, infine Gela con il 3,2%.Quindi anche se il Gnl è al primo posto con il 31,2%, resta comunque inferiore rispetto al gas che proviene dai gasdotti, cioè considerando la somma dei cinque punti d'ingresso (68,8%).Aumentati anche i consumi, +15% sul 2023, con volumi pari a oltre 151.000 tonnellate.Sull'infrastruttura per il Gnl (Stazioni di servizio, impianti per le imprese, reti off-grid, depositi che integrano quella a metano) l'Italia è il primo Paese in Europa e nonostante la turbolenza dei prezzi del 2022, l'industria italiana del Gnl è riuscita a mantenere la sua posizione dominante in Europa anche nel corso del 2023. Le imprese stanno continuando a investire nello sviluppo di questo mercato. Ne parliamo con Andrea Arzà - presidente di Assogasliquidi-Federchimica.Tavares, 'presenza di Stellantis in Italia non è a rischio'L’Italia è uno dei tre pilastri di Stellantis nel mondo, insieme e Francia e Stati Uniti. E resterà tale. Parola di Carlos Tavares, ceo del terzo gruppo automobilistico globale per ricavi.Tavares parla oggi con Il Sole 24 Ore mentre settimane di cassa integrazione e solidarietà, anche per Maserati, riducono al minimo la capacità dello stabilimento di Mirafiori. Quindi, Italia centrale sì, ma anche aria tesa. Soprattutto per il futuro del grande complesso industriale e del suo indotto. Tutto questo mentre il top manager portoghese ha chiuso un anno molto positivo sotto il profilo dei risultati finanziari (utile +18,6%), del dividendo (+16%) e del brillante andamento del titolo (+65% nei dodici mesi). Il piano Dare Forward 2030 per la transizione sta convincendo gli investitori.Mister Tavares, Gianni Agnelli sostenne che gli interessi della Fiat erano quelli del Paese e viceversa.Ne parliamo con Alberto Annicchiarico, che firma l'intervista per Il Sole 24 Ore.
