With so many distractions around us, it's challenging to not loose focus on important spiritual things. In Rom. 14, Paul talks about that, and also gives us guidance for the grey areas of life. Let's see what that looks like, in a message titled, "Keep Your Eye on the Ball."

There's not many things more depressing than living with guilt, shame, and condemnation. On the other hand, how wonderful it is to live without guilt or any of those other things. Send us a Text Message.Today, we go over the portion of scriptures where Mary Magdalene went to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus. She didn't find Him there, so she went and told Peter and John, so they all came to the tomb. We discuss their confusion and worry, Mary's encounter with the 2 angels, and how she saw the Lord Himself. He asked her why she was weeping, and at that point, she just thought that He was the gardener. She was so excited, so ran back to the city and told the disciples. That evening, Jesus appeared to several of the disciples, but Thomas was not among them that night. In our Q&A segment, we give an answer to the following question: In Rom. 4:8, it says: ‘Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.' So, how do I get to be such a man as this?We talk about much more, but why wait... so ahead and listen in today!

Endure to Manifest Salvation (5) (audio) David Eells (7/3/24) Let's talk about how our faith transforms us as we endure to manifest salvation. Some would say, David, I know this, but many must be reminded in the midst of their trials, of the good news that they forget so easily. Understand that you can keep God's commandments because of grace and not because of your own ability or lack thereof. You can obey Him, because of the reconciliation Jesus made at the cross. He took your sins and He put them on the cross, and He gave you His righteousness. We are to reckon it done by faith and that's why it's called the Good News! Paul said in (Gal.2:20) It is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that [life] which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, [the faith] which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me. Paul was living by faith. He was confessing what the Bible said about him was true, that his old man was now dead. He was confessing that he died at his baptism and that when he came up out of the water, it was Jesus Who now lived in him. Faith is what empowers you to be obedient to the Word of God and empowers you to see yourself the way the Bible tells you to see yourself. Our problem is that we walk by sight and, if you walk by sight like the world does, that's all you're going to get. We need to see the way Peter says to see and that is by faith. (2Pe.1:3) Seeing that his divine power hath granted (past tense) unto us all things that pertain unto life (God's life) and godliness, through the knowledge of him.... At the cross, Jesus gave you everything you need. It's already yours and you have to accept it by faith. You have to believe that the divine power given to you is everything you need for His life and godliness. The Bible says that reconciliation was accomplished on the cross. It's a waste of time to not believe what the Bible says is already yours. God is not schizophrenic! He doesn't say one thing in His Word and then do another. He wants you to be (Php.1:6) ... confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ. You see, it's His work in you, through faith in what Jesus gave to you on the cross, but remember (Jas.2:17) Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. Some people have “faith” that is not faith. What they're calling “faith” is only mentally acknowledging something. We want faith and faith according to (Rom.4:17) calleth the things that are not, as though they were. Faith brings the manifestation we need. If you want more of God's provision, He wants you to have it. Faith does what Jesus said in (Mar.11:24) NENT Therefore I say unto you, All things whatever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye received them, and ye shall have them. The condition here is faith. It was designed to be so simple that a child can receive it, but worldly wisdom doesn't make sense and will block you from receiving it. God made it this way, in order that only those people who received faith could receive the promise and faith is a gift of God so ask for it. (Eph.2:8) For by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, [it is] the gift of God; (9) not of works (Meaning your works.), that no man should glory. (10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (This second works is God's works.), which God afore prepared that we should walk in them. See, there's a difference between your works and God's works through you. (Php.2:13) For it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. People like to teach the “unconditional love of God,” so you may never have heard that God hates anybody, but God hates all those whose works are evil. (Rom.9:13) Even as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated. (Psa.5:5) The arrogant shall not stand in thy sight: Thou hatest all workers of iniquity. (11:5) The Lord trieth the righteous; But the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. There are many verses like that in the Bible. God loves goodness; He does not love sin! God is in the process of creating sons and there must be Christ-likeness born in you. You manifest sonship as you grow in sanctification, which is separation from the world unto God. And if you obey His commandments, you will be separated from the world. (Mat.10:34) Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. And this is to separate the wicked from the righteous. When you're separated from the world, your works are God's works. God's desire is to manifest sonship in order to have fellowship with you. God's the One doing this. (Eph.1:5) Having foreordained us unto adoption as sons through Jesus Christ unto himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. So, by faith, we believe that God is the One in (Col.1:13) who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love. And have no fear; just believe! The only difference between the person who's chosen and the person who's not chosen is faith, so believe! People worry, “I wonder if I am one of the elect?” Well, believe that you are one of the elect and take steps toward God! The Bible says in (2Pe.1:10) Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble: (11) for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Did you know that you can't worry and have faith at the same time? If you're anxious, then you're not having faith. Stop worrying about what you have not done; exercise faith in what Christ has done and you will do what He wants. You have no ability to be anything but what you are, unless something from the outside reaches in and changes you. The Holy Spirit reaches in and changes your heart through faith, as you believe what the Bible says you have been given. It's very simple and it's free. It's not by your works; otherwise, you have earned it and that's not grace. Let's go to (1Jn.3:1) Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God (The KJV says “sons of God,” but the Greek word there is teknon, which means “children.”); and [such] we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (2) Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested (That's Christ being manifested in us.), we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is. (3) And every one that hath this hope [set] on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. If Christ is manifested, we will be like Him; that's what the Bible says. The KJV translators put “when He shall appear,” thinking that this is a physical coming. The Received Text, the Nestle's Text and the Numeric Bible all say, “if He shall be manifested,” because this is not talking about His coming in the air. This is talking about His manifestation in us. And what does it mean to “see Him even as He is”? The Bible teaches us in (2Co.3:18) But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image.... You have to see the image in the mirror as an accomplished fact before you can be transformed. For Christ to be manifested in you, you have to see Him as He is, not the Jesus men have made Him. When you look in the Word, you become familiar with the face of Jesus. That's your face. (2Co.3:18) But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit. By faith, you accept that as your gift from God. It's not because you're able to do that because none of us is able; and not because you're worthy because none of us is worthy, but because it's been given to you through the reconciliation, meaning the exchange of His life for your sinful life.. The “glory” is the righteousness of Christ, the truth of Christ, His being, His presence, but you have to behold Him in the mirror and not some other Christ. We want the Jesus of the Bible; if it's not this Jesus, then you're going to be manifesting the wrong image. Paul warned us about receiving another “Christ” and another spirit: (Gal.1:6) I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel; (7) which is not another [gospel] only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. (8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema (accursed). (9) As we have said before, so say I now again, if any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema. (10) For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? or am I striving to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ. Notice, John says in (1Jn.3:3) And every one that hath this hope [set] on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.... How can we purify ourselves? You do it through the promises in the Word of God. (Eph.6:14) Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (15) and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. (17) And take the helmet of salvation.... This is the knowledge that you have been delivered, you have been saved and set free from the curse of sin. It's the knowledge of what Jesus accomplished for you on the cross. (Eph.6:17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. You are to use faith and the Word against the old man, the flesh, the devil and the world. (2Co.7:1) Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit.... You see, “these promises” are the sword with which you purify yourself. (1) … let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Now that's a good promise! The Bible says to stand and fight! Take up the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit and use them against your enemies. Now let's go to (Rom.12:2) And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. So, you have to learn to think the way God tells you to think. This is repentance. Man fell away from God because of the way he thought and God says not to add to, nor take away from, His Words or the curses of the Book are going to be upon you. (Rev.22:18) I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book: (19) and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book. The way out from under the curse is to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Change your mind; your thinking is wrong! We have to think the way God tells us to think. (Rom.6:11) Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus. I.e., Consider it done because of the reconciliation that Jesus made. At the cross, you were made free from sin. If you don't think like that, you can't walk away from it and you will never be able to stop sinning! I've heard a lot of people say, “I just can't!” Of course you can't because you don't believe that God gave you the power to do it! In the early Church, they were called “believers.” Believers in the Gospel! What was the Gospel? “You have been set free from sin, by the power of God, because of what Jesus did for you!” A true believer is going to say, “I can!” (Php.4:13) I can do all things in him that strengtheneth me. Our attitude has to change about our ability. Folks, our ability is nothing, but God's ability through us because we believe is total. Jesus gave you authority. (Mat.18:18) Verily I say unto you, what things soever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and what things soever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. You can change the circumstances around you, if you believe what this Bible tells you to believe. It will change everything, if you think about yourself the way the Bible tells you to think about yourself. “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” In other words God says, “Think the way I tell you to think.” If you speak, speak as an oracle of God, which means to speak in agreement with God. This is very important for the manifestation of sonship. (1Pe.4:11) If any man speaketh, [speaking] as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, [ministering] as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. The Greek word for “oracle” is logion and it means “an utterance (of God); a divine utterance.” You don't take away from His Words and you don't add to them; otherwise, you have to live under the curse. Paul said Christ is coming to be glorified in a group of people. (2Th.1:10) When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be marvelled at in all them that believed (because our testimony unto you was believed) in that day. Jesus is going to be glorified in those people because they are going to believe what the Bible says. (2Th.1:11) To which end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfil every desire of goodness and [every] work of faith, with power; (12) that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you.... The Greek word for “name” is onoma and it means “all that a ‘name' implies, of authority, character, rank, majesty, power, excellence, etc., of everything that the ‘name' covers.” Paul is praying that the very nature and character of Christ would be glorified in you. (2Th.1:12) That the name (onoma) of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Sonship will be manifested because you believe what the Word says. The mind of the natural man is contrary to what the Bible says. (Rom.8:6) For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace: (7) because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be. When you read the Bible, you have to repent. “Repent” is the Greek word metanoeo and it means “to think differently” or “to change your mind.” Your thinking has been wrong but when you read the Bible and accept what it says, it will change you and it will deliver you. Jesus told us in (Joh.8:32) and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Exercise faith in what the Bible says and you will be set free. Religion does nothing! Religion is just man's ideas about God. Accept God's own ideas about God! Why take someone else's opinion? Back to (2Th.1:12) that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you and ye in him,… Where and how do you receive the “glory” that Paul mentions? Religion teaches that you get the “glory” in the next life, but that's not what the Bible says. I have been reading the Bible diligently for a long time and you can't find in the Bible even one instance where God comes and then changes the soul. Most Christians believe that when God comes, He's going to take away your old dirty soul and give you a new one. But the Word says only that God's going to give you a new body. In (Rom.8:23) And not only so, but our selves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for [our] adoption, [to wit,] the redemption of our body. (24) For in hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth? (25) But if we hope for that which we see not, [then] do we with patience wait for it. (Eph.1:12) To the end that we should be unto the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Christ: (13) in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation,— in whom, having also believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (14) which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of [God's] own possession, unto the praise of his glory. We receive the glory here and we receive it by bearing fruit here. Here is where we bear the fruit of Christ. Jesus said the 30-, 60- and 100-fold fruit that the righteous would bear has to be born on Earth. He doesn't give it to you in Heaven; you get it here. This is our one chance. We're running the race here. To those who are faithful in that race and bear fruit, He will give a new body, but He didn't say He would give you a new soul in the next life. If you believe that, “One day God will come and change me,” then where is the motivation for you to bear fruit? That lie makes it very easy for the people who just want to be satisfied with where they are and then they sit down and stop running the race. Jesus gave you the gift of Himself, freely! Believe that you have the ability of Christ and that His life is in you. The Gospel can be very simple, but it's not acceptable to the carnal, fleshly mind. The Gospel is made so that a child can receive it and children trust their father. The apostle Paul said in (Col.3:3) For ye died.... He's speaking to people who are somewhere along the process. (3) For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (4) When Christ, [who is] our life, shall be manifested (and that is in us), then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory. And again this “glory” comes as we walk by faith and not sight as in (2Co.3:18) But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory,… Again, the glory is manifested here. And what does he mean by, “from glory to glory”? This is the three different bodies that people are given as a reward for the fruit or glory born by them in this life. (1Co 15:38) but God giveth it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own. ..(41) There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory. (49) And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. We come into Christlikeness, traveling through those three glories. We go from star glory, to moon glory, to sun glory. If you die or leave this earth as a star glory, you receive a star glory body and star glory is when you are self-righteous. In other words you are not doing things by nature but by religion. A star has its individual glory shining from it, and there are many, many stars, just as we are separated because of self-righteous denominations when we first come to Christ. Self-righteousness shows star glory. But moon glory is when we become dead to self and become one in unity with each other and only reflect the light of the sun/Son. The moon is dead and does not have its own glory, like the stars, who are separated. This death to self makes us capable of becoming one with each other. Sun glory is then possible. Rom 6:4-7 We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death (moon glory): that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father (Son glory), so we also might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death (moon glory), we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection (Son glory); 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him (moon glory), that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin; 7 for he that hath died is justified from sin. If you are looking at Jesus in the mirror by faith, you will go through these three stages, from glory to glory. So, whatever stage you leave this earth that is the body you will have, among other heavenly benefits. Paul is saying, When Christ, Who is our life, shall be manifested in us, then shall we also with Him be manifested in glory.” Praise be to God! Let us see that God is speaking of fruit and glory born in this life and not the next life. (2Co.4: 11) For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. Mortal flesh is only on earth and is not the new body, so God's purpose is that the life of Jesus would be manifested in this body through the suffering of death to self. The life of Jesus is resurrection life and that's sun glory. You go through death to self and you come to resurrection life. This is what Paul is talking about, the glory of Christ is the righteousness of Christ. We put on Christ by putting on His righteousness! We put on the robes that the Bride wears. (Rev.19:8) And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright and pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. And as we manifest Christ through faith in what God has given us, the biggest temptation we have is to look in the mirror and see ourselves. We are told in (Jas.1:22) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves. (23) For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror. If you see your natural face in the mirror, you will be a “hearer” of the Word, but not a “doer” of the Word. The devil will condemn you for your past sins and you will have no faith. How are we “doers”? Let's read in (2Pe.1:5) Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence in your faith, supply virtue; and in [your] virtue knowledge; (6) and in [your] knowledge self-control; and in [your] self-control patience; and in [your] patience godliness; (7) and in [your] godliness brotherly kindness; and in [your] brotherly kindness love. (8) For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. (10) Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble: (11) for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He's saying, if you lack any of these attributes of Christ, it's because you are near-sighted. Don't you remember you were cleansed from your old sins? That means the old man is dead! Or, in other words, Peter is saying that if you are lacking these attributes, it's because you see yourself when you look in the mirror. You can't do these things, unless you look in the mirror and see Christ, which is faith. Jesus said in (Luk.6:40) The disciple is not above his teacher: but every one when he is perfected shall be as his teacher. “Perfected” means “matured.” You have to believe that when you are matured, you will walk like He walked, talk like He talked and think like He thought. You have to see it in the mirror by faith so you can have it. Contrary to popular opinion, there's a difference of reward concerning sonship? Many have been taught that everybody gets the same reward, but that's contrary to the Scriptures. This motivates each of us to be a “doer” and not just a “hearer” of the Word. (Joh.8:31) Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, [then] are ye truly my disciples. We can see here that if we believe Jesus as the scripture hath said we are now a true disciple? It's not those whom we have loosely called “Christians” who are going to enter into the Kingdom. It's “disciples” who are going to enter into the Kingdom and a disciple is a mathetes, a “learner” and a “follower” of the Word. It says in (Joh.8:32) And ye shall know the truth.... It's disciples who would know the truth and disciples are those who abide in His Word. (Joh.8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Only disciples get set free. Does this give you an understanding of why not all Christians get set free? (Joh.8:33) They answered unto him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never yet been in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? (34) Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Every one that committeth sin is the bondservant of sin. (35) And the bondservant abideth not in the house for ever: the son abideth forever. We see here that Sonship is the full manifestation of eternal life; a bondservant has not eternal life. If you ask, “But what if I am a son by faith?” Yes, sonship is two-fold. First of all, it's imputed by faith and, second of all, it's manifested as we walk in that faith. And, if we abide in that faith and walk in that faith, sonship will progressively manifest in us. We abide in the faith that we've been made free from sin, but everyone who continues to walk in sin is the bondservant of sin and the bondservant doesn't abide in the house forever. Paul said the same thing about the bondservant. (Gal.4:30) Howbeit what saith the scripture? Cast out the handmaid (bondservant) and her son: for the son of the handmaid shall not inherit with the son of the freewoman. (31) Wherefore, brethren, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the freewoman. If you are a son, then be a son by faith. And if you're walking in that faith as a disciple, you will be manifesting Christ. If you walk by faith in Him, you will do the mighty works of God. Don't try to attain to Christ by your works because that puts you under the Law and turns you back into a servant. Let me prove to you that “the bondservant abideth not in the house forever.” If you remember in the Parable of the Marriage Feast, many were bidden to the feast. In (Mat.22:11) But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment. The wedding garments are “white” robes as in Rev 3:4-5, 18, 7:13-14, 19:14. We read of the Bride's wedding garments: (Rev.19:8) And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright and pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. And in (Rom.13:14) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof]. So Jesus told us of a man who didn't have on this wedding garment! He obviously was a Christian of sorts or he wouldn't have made it into the marriage feast. The king saw this man, (Mat.22:12) and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. (He obviously thought he had a right to be there.) (13) Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. (14) For many are called, but few chosen. Notice, he was called. But only the “chosen” got to stay. The merely “called” came, but they didn't get to stay or, in other words, they didn't have eternal life. This man without the wedding garment was called a Christian, but he didn't have eternal life. When you walk in faith, you're able to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, but this man wasn't walking in faith and he wasn't putting on the Lord Jesus Christ, so he was broken off as a branch. (Rom.11:19) Thou wilt say then, Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. (20) Well; by their unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by thy faith. Be not highminded, but fear: (21) for if God spared not the natural branches, neither will he spare thee. So, he was called, but he was broken off and not chosen or elect! Another example that you can be called but not be chosen is in the Parable of the Talents. (Mat.25:14) For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. (15) And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey. So these are definitely servants of God who were given the talents. He gave them these talents and the Lord did not return until they brought forth fruit from these talents. The servant who received the five talents brought forth five more and the servant who received the two talents brought forth two more, and their Lord said they were good servants. But the servant who hid his one talent in the earth and didn't bring forth fruit from what his Lord gave him was an unprofitable servant. (Mat.25:26) But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter; (27) thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest. (28) Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents. (29) For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. “Hath” and “hath not” here is talking about fruit of that which was given by God. The servant with the five talents brought forth five more; he brought forth fruit of what God gave him. But the servant who “hath not” is going to lose “even that which he hath.” This is talking about those we've been loosely calling “Christians.” If they don't bring forth fruit of what God gives them, they will lose what they have. You are responsible to do something with what God gives you, whether it's “two talents” or whether it's “five talents.” The man with the “one talent” was just a servant; he was not a son because he did nothing with his one talent. He was called but not chosen and his talent was taken away from him and given to the profitable servant with the 10 talents. This is exactly what God is going to do with us. God's hope is to adopt His servants and make them sons, but every servant will not bear fruit and will not become a son. By faith, the adoption happened 2000 years ago and, manifestly, it's when you bear Christ as 30-, 60- or 100-fold fruit. The adoption is fully manifested when God gives you the new body, but in spirit and in soul, it's manifested while you are here on this earth.

Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. What tremendous hope we discover today in Rom. 16:20. Let me remind us of a couple of verses. We are blessed by Rom. 5:1 where we learn that God has made peace with us through Jesus' death and provided the grace of the Lord Jesus in which we stand. And by giving us His Spirit, we have His peace dwelling within us. In Rom. 8:31-39 we learn that God is for us and no one can separate us from His love in Christ. So God has taken on all of our enemies and made us more than conquerors through Jesus Christ. He has set us free from the law of sin and death which reigned in our fleshly bodies (Rom. 8:2). He has conquered death through His resurrection (Rom. 6:9-10). He has saved us from sin through His life (Rom. 5:10). Satan has been defeated and all of his weapons have been made powerless (Rom. 6:6). Therefore we are at peace with God and His love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. We live in His kingdom which consists of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom. 14:17). God is the God of peace! The only thing remaining for Him to do is to crush Satan under our feet by the grace of the Lord Jesus who is with us and in whom we stand before God. Paul promised the Romans that God will crush Satan under their feet. How does He do that? Through the grace of the Lord Jesus who is with us. As we walk in love with Jesus, God crushes Satan under our feet. Everywhere we walk in love, we walk on holy ground and Satan experiences our feet upon his head. He has no weapons that can succeed against us. He has no accusations to make that will separate us from the God of peace and love. The devil is defeated, and as we live to love with Jesus, he is crushed beneath our feet. Today, be encouraged. God will crush Satan beneath our feet as we live to love with Jesus by the grace of the Lord Jesus who is with us. Rejoice! Walk in victory! Walk in love for the glory of God.
Romans 14:18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. In Rom. 12:1, Paul urged his readers by the mercies of God, to present their bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is their spiritual service of worship to Jesus. In this verse, he clearly was tracking along that same line. When we consider our brothers' opinions on issues that are not clearly addressed in God's Word as more important than our own, we are serving Jesus. Our love in that case is a living, holy, acceptable service of worship, but it is also approved by men. The word translated approve in this verse is another form of the word prove in Rom. 12:2 where Paul urged them to renew their minds and not be conformed to the world so that they may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. When we serve Christ by regarding the opinions of others above our own, we are proving something to to the world and they will receive it. It helps to think of approved action as something men will receive or consider to be good, acceptable, and perfect. As we live to love with Jesus, God's kingdom advances through us, and it will be received by men. Righteousness, peace, and joy are appealing. It makes us the light of the world. Romans 14:1 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. As we begin Rom. 14, I want to remind you of where Paul has come from. In Rom. 12:1-2 He wrote, “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Recognizing that this verse is a continuation of how being recipients of the mercies of God should impact our lives keeps us in the flow of the mind of the Holy Spirit. First, our believing in Jesus is one of many mercies. God gives to each one a measure of faith and that drives the use of the grace gifts He gives us to minister to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are to be devoted to loving one another without hypocrisy. Second, Paul addressed how, in light of God's mercies, we are to love our enemies, and third, our faith in God should impact our relationships with the authorities He places over us. At the end of chapter 13, Paul summarized what he said, “Owe nothing to anyone except to love” them. Now, Paul returned to a common problem among believers, having to do with the differing measures of faith that God gives related to food, drink, and certain days. Paul was urging his readers to consider their responses to one another as an aspect of their worship with their bodies which he entreated them to do in 12:1. Now we are ready to be encouraged from 14:1. Since “God has allotted to each a measure of faith” we ought to “accept the one who is weak in faith.” The word translated accept is rooted in the word most translated receive. John 3:27 is a good example. “John answered and said, ‘A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.'” So perhaps we get the most encouragement out of this verse when we take it to mean that we are to realize God has given to us members of our body whose faith is weaker than ours on various issues. He didn't give them to us so we could practice being their judges. We are to love and trust God, who in His wisdom gives faith to each of us according to how He wants to glorify Himself in His body. So today, I encourage us to remember that God is the Great Giver and we are merely unworthy, undeserving recipients of His mercies. Those mercies were given to us when we had no faith at all! We were enemies, in fact. In light of those mercies of God, we should view our brothers and sisters as gifts to us from God. We are to receive those people in the condition God has given them to us, and as we will learn in the next few days, leave their opinions on disputable matters in God's hands. Today, if God puts a weaker brother or sister in our paths, we are to receive them as someone Jesus intends to love through us. They belong to Him, and therefore belong to us so we can bring glory to God as we worship Him by offering ourselves as living, holy sacrifices of love. What a good encouragement this is for us! Romans 13:8-9 Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For this, “You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” What a clear encouragement to live to love with Jesus! Believers have Jesus living inside them. His righteousness fulfills the law of God. Heb. 1:8-9 records what the Father says about His Son. “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.” Fulfilling the law is the definition of the righteousness God. In Rom. 6:13 Paul wrote, “Present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” We might consider this command to owe nothing to anyone except to love them as Jesus' attitude toward His Father's heart expressed in His Law. Notice that believers owe love to “one another.” When we live to love with Jesus, we are also displaying the mercies of God toward Jesus in our brothers and sisters. So verses 8-10 of Rom. 13 summarized what Paul urged them to do as recipients of the mercies of God, namely, to present their bodies to God a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God as an act of worship. His application followed with love for fellow members of Jesus' body, love for enemies, and love for governing authorities. This isn't the only time the Scriptures teach that loving your neighbor is a summary statement of all the commandments. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, Matthew 7:12 “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Paul wrote the Galatians in 5:13-14 “For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'” If you love someone, you won't commit adultery with them or against your spouse. You won't murder, steal, or covet. You certainly wouldn't want someone to do that to you, would you? Another understanding of who is your neighbor is this: it's the one God puts in your path each day. That's why in the Live to Love prayer you can find at livetolovewithjesus.com you'll find this prayer. Would you join me in prayer? “Father in heaven, thank You for another day of life to live to know and love You and to love with Jesus. Please anoint and fill me with the Holy Spirit, the presence and power of Christ, so that I can love and trust You and love those You put in my path today, for Your glory.” Amen. A panel discussion on the topic if sin and mastering it. Some questions to consider:In Genesis chapter 4, we find God pleading with Cain concerning sin approaching in his life. Does God stillspeak to His people this way? In what ways is God still speaking to His people now?In Rom 5 we find that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners, we are reconciled to God by His death, and saved by His life. How can a person be sure that they are reconciled to God and saved? In John 8:34, Jesus expresses that to sin is to be a slave of sin. To what extent do you agree or disagree withbeing a slave to sin? (what if it's just a small misstep?) Can a Christian sin? Can a Christian continue to walk in sin? If so, can we say that they are a Christian at all? (Consider Rom 6:1-4)All over the Bible we find God healing people from various ailments to include their pasts and mental well-being. We understood from the series that to reject God's healing is sin. Why would a person hold onto their ailment particularly if it's based on an offense?Abel became Cain's ideal for acceptance in God and that twisted into envy and malice. Have you ever had anissue with envy? How did you overcome it?Part of walking in victory over sin is mastering self-control or temperance. What can this look like daily? How can a person get help in walking in self-control?
Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. This has got to be one of the most quoted verses of the apostle Paul. How encouraging it is to know that those who are in Christ Jesus do not stand condemned before God, even though they have been prisoners of sin, captured in a body of death. Why is there not condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus? Well, the next verses explain. Today, let's be encouraged by this great and awesome fact: If you are in Christ Jesus, there is no condemnation from God for you! Every time you've failed to love with Jesus, has been taken out of the way because the Law has been taken out of the way. There's nothing to condemn you. We hear this again later in chapter 8. Let's dive a little deeper. How does one get “in Christ”? We don't have to guess on that. Paul explicitly stated it to the Corinthians in 1 Cor. 1:30. “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus.” God put you into Christ. This is said in a different way in Rom. 6:3. “Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?” In Rom. 7:4 Paul wrote, "Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another.” God put us in Christ. He baptized us in Christ. He joined us to Christ. That's why in 7:25 Paul wrote, “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ!” We thank God for putting us in Christ. So we are free today to live a new life without condemnation. We stand blameless before God in the righteousness of Christ. This is significant because that gives us confidence to approach the throne of God to find grace and mercy whenever we need it. We know there is nothing between us and God but His love. Out of that place of love, we draw our fullness today. We are satisfied in God's love through Christ. His steadfast love is better than life itself and all that it offers us. We have everything we need in Jesus to love God and to love others. We have the same heart to forgive those who hurt or disappoint us that God has toward us. If you aren't condemned, then what are you? You are accepted in Christ. Rom. 15:7 gives us clear marching orders today. “Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.” Acknowledgment: Music from “Carried by the Father” by Eric Terlizzi. www.ericterlizzi.com
In Rom. 7:2-3, Paul continued explaining how believers are released from the Law and therefore free to live with Jesus. He wrote, “For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband. So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man.” In verses 2-3, Paul provided an example illustrating how it is possible that the Law no longer has jurisdiction over them. They all would understand that the Law binds a woman to her husband as long as he is alive. As long as her husband lives, the Law has jurisdiction over her. However, if her husband dies, the Law has no authority over her life in regards to her relationship with her husband or any other single man, for that matter. She is released from her responsibilities to her husband according to the Law through the death of the spouse. Being released from the responsibilities of the Law was an important reality for Paul and should be for all believers. Paul had already made it perfectly clear in chapter 3 that no man can be justified by the works of the Law (3:10-20). It is impossible for anyone to fulfill what the Law requires because all have fallen short of the Law's standards of righteousness (3:21). In chapter 6, perhaps you remember Paul reminded the Romans that they were “not under Law.” In the first verses of chapter 7 Paul explained how it was that they were not under Law. There's been the death of one of the two parties who were in a covenant of Law. He used the illustration of the husband's death, but he could have used either party in his example. Today, we may rejoice in the great truth that we are no longer under the Law, but under grace. Therefore, we have been set free from the covenant that says, “If you keep the Law, you live. If you break that Law, you die.” All who believe in Jesus have been released from the Law's requirements through Jesus Christ, which Paul will explain later. This frees us to live to love with Jesus without guilt or condemnation. Hallelujah! We can serve Jesus today with a clear conscience and love as Paul testified is possible in 1 Tim. 1:5. “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” So let me encourage you to fervently, freely, joyfully love today as Jesus does. Romans 5:20 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, Look at the supernatural love of God! God's love pours out grace where sin is increased. Would that describe the love you have for others? Think how marvelous and glorious the wisdom and love of God is. In God's wisdom, He gave the Law, knowing it would increase transgression. In Rom. 4:15, Paul wrote, “where there is no law, there also is no violation. Later in Romans 7:5, Paul explained why Law increases transgression. “For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law.” God knew and thus purposed that Law would increase transgression. God never intended that man would be justified before Him through the keeping of the Law. What He did intend to do was reveal His righteousness, love, and His glory through bestowing grace upon the ungodly. Since grace abounds more than sin abounds, the more transgression increases, the more grace abounds to His glory. So it will also be for us who stand in this glorious grace. We should not be surprised when our brothers or sisters transgress against one another. We may expect it as part of God's plan. What brings God glory? When His grace abounds as transgressions occur and even increase in our relationships, God gets glory. As transgressions occur, righteousness rises up to bestow overcoming grace. Obviously this grace doesn't mean that sin shouldn't be confronted. Paul addressed that issue in the next chapter. Bestowing grace in the face of increasing sin is the privilege and calling of everyone who belongs to Jesus and has received God's grace.

Romans 3:4 May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "That You may be justified in Your words, and prevail when You are judged.” In Rom. 3:4, Paul answered the question about God's faithfulness being nullified because of the unbelief of God's people who have the oracles and promises of God. His answer: No, not, never! Man's unbelief cannot nullify God's faithfulness. People often use the hypocrisy and unbelief of church members as an excuse to reject God. Yes, we all fail—even believers. However, it would be better for us to be found liars rather than God be found untrustworthy. God is true. His Word is true. His judgment is true. There will always be people who judge God. Paul wrote that God will be found true and His words will stand til the end of time. As we live to love with Jesus, there will be times when we will have people tell us how they can't believe in God because people in churches are hypocrites or maybe even because we hurt them in some way—we didn't love them well. Let's be quick to admit our failures. We might say it this way. “If I ever love, it's Jesus. The rest of the time, it's me, and it's easy to tell the difference.” The faithfulness of God isn't nullified by our weaknesses or failures. In fact, God's faithfulness is experienced by His love poured out in the hearts of all sinners who trust in Him who justifies the ungodly, as Abraham did. Paul wrote of Abraham in Romans 4:5. “But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.” We live to love with Jesus because we have experienced God's love while we were yet sinners. That's the good news we have to share with others today, who like us, have fallen short of the glory of God. Yes, we have been unbelieving, but that has not nullified God's faithfulness. To the contrary, we are examples and witnesses of His faithfulness. Acknowledgment: Music from “Carried by the Father” by Eric Terlizzi. www.ericterlizzi.com

Review: This podcast is Day number 2 in my series about Buckling the belt of truth. In the first day in this series (which can be found by searching for 195 or the word ‘buckling', I explained what I consider to be the first step in putting on the belt of truth. The belt of truth is one of seven parts to the Christian's armor found in Ephesians 6. But I suggest that we make this clarification: Buckle the belt of truth by believing what God says about you in the Bible. The belt of truth is put on by believing what God says. (Remember: Believing = faith.) The belt of truth includes all of the truth found in Scripture. But if you just believe a lot of general truths found in the pages of the Bible, but don't believe what the Bible says about YOURSELF (your own identity), it would be like leaving your house with your belt in your belt loops, but not buckled. Everyday we live in a spiritual war zone. You'll be at a great disadvantage if your belt isn't buckled! The main thing I am after in this belt-buckling is living in spiritual victory and standing firm in our worldly battle with the flesh and the devil. What God says about you in the Bible often seems too good to believe, because the devil has been feeding us lies about ourselves all of our lives. So, taking one example from the Day 1 lesson, when we read in the Bible, “God loves you,” the truth of this seems to bounce off of our minds. “How nice,” we think, “but God can't really love me because I am so bad.” We must seek to notice the things we find in the Bible that are repelled by our minds. Write them down. Underline them. Preach to yourself that you should believe what God clearly says about you. Pray, asking for God to make the concepts clear and believable to you. Meditate on those things, and you will start seeing your life being transformed by God's Word. Here are some major mind-challenging truths from our Day 1 study: God loves us. We often unfairly think of God as an angry judge. God's Word tells us that we are one with Christ, joined to Him. We are united to Christ, so much so that He considers us actually part of his body. We have a powerful guarantee, the Holy Spirit, which is not an external thing, but an inward witness that we are joined to Christ. We are God's holy people, not because we have the power to be holy. But God has made us holy by our unity with Christ. This is our identity! Take hold of this identity. Paul wants us to understand all these things so that we understand that God will use his power to help us. Residue from Day 1: Here's something I ask you to bear in mind: We each have different versions of what the Bible calls ‘flesh'. The flesh is basically the evil and selfish desires that spring from our bodies. Men and women are normally very different in their sinful desires. And even among Christians of the same sex, one sin may be highly adictive to you, but not to your fellow brother or sister. This means that Bible verses that I will share which mean so much to me may not ring any bells for you. If so, I hope you will still find basic principles in my presentation that will apply powerfully to you. I think that it is important to remove a faulty excuse for persistent sin that many people use. In Romans 7:24 Paul says, “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” Please do not take the end of Romans 7 to negate what Paul was saying in chapter 6 and 8! The theme of chapter 6 is given by the NLT translators in the section heading, “Sin's Power is Broken.” And Romans 6:6 is a key verse for buckling the belt of truth: “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives.” Here's why readers have been confused by Romans 7:24: In Rom. 7:5-6, Paul brings up a difficult concept: “For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the lawThen starting in verse 7, Paul explains how the law gets involved in our ‘living in the flesh'. Note that for 17 verses more, Paul carries on for an uncharacteristically long time without mentioning Christ. That's because he is either talking about how living in the flesh works out for someone who doesn't know Christ, or someone who forgets about Christ and reverts to living in the flesh., were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.” But Paul doesn't leave us wallowing in our fleshly weaknesses (in 7:24-25) with ‘Wretched man that I am', but quickly returns to his victorious theme. In chapter 8:2 he says: “For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” And then he begins to talk about living in the Spirit. Clearly, we are supposed to start having victory because of the Spirit. Understanding our spiritual position plus the help of the Spirit allows us to ‘put to death' various sins that beset us. Yes, I must admit that as long as we are in our bodies, we will stumble. We are ‘saints' (holy people) who occasionally still fall into sin. However, overwhelming victory over fleshly sin is available to us. Don't be satisfied with falling back to being a ‘wretched man' or woman like Romans 7:24 when you have the riches of chapter 8 available! THEME: Buckle up the belt of truth regarding your PRESENT RESURRECTION LIFE. ROM.6.1-14, 8:10-13; 12:1-2 2CO.5.14-15 GAL.2.19-20 COL.2.11-15 COL.3.1-11 EPH2.6 There are basically four steps to buckling the belt of truth: Realize: Be alert when reading the Bible for truths that are presented as true for believers in Christ, but which seem too good to be true. Note them down, and check out translations like the NLT, GNT, and NET to make sure you are understanding what the Scripture says. Ask God to help you overcome your difficulty in believing the truth you have discovered. It may be appropriate to ask God to help you discover if strong opposing ideas are coming from demonic influence or previous sins that you should confess. Meditate on the scriptural truth you are working to internalize. Imagine how your life would be different if you started to live according to that truth. Take any steps the Holy Spirit gives you to put your new identity into practice. Today's topic for belt-buckling is our resurrection life in unity with Christ. This goes along with Romans 6:6 that we just read: “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives.” Being ‘crucified with Christ' of course means that in some sense we have died. There's a truth that will definitely bounce off your mind! It will go in one ear and right out the other. This is because we are dealing with a spiritual reality, not something that we can see with physical eyes or understand with earthly minds. It will often help to consult a meaning based translation when we deal with spiritual realities. Let me illustrate from my experience in Indonesia. I was speaking to a small congregation and I read Colossians 3:1-3 in the default Indonesian literal translation. You'll understand better if I read the ESV: 3:1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. There was a man on the second row who must have been an elder in the church, and I put him on the spot. I said to him, “This verse says, ‘For you have died'. Have you died?” And he replied, “No.” So I asked someone else to read the verses again and I again asked the man, “Sir, this verse in your Bible says ‘You have died.' Have you died?” And he again said, “No.” I would have been smiling by now, because I knew this would help me make my point. I said, “This verse says ‘You have died'. Is there a spiritual way that you have died?” “Oh,” he said, “well yes, if you put it that way!” The next thing I would have done is to read our translation, which makes the verse much clearer. So let's read the NLT for those verses: Col. 3:1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Our first step that I mentioned above is to realize that this truth is something every Christian is supposed to believe. I hope you will take steps 2 and 3, namely Asking God how to do this and Meditating on this truth. But we are helped significantly in step 4, as Paul gives us steps to follow in the next part of Colossians 3. For now, I am leaving those as homework. Let's go back to Colossians 2 to pick up more important ideas about how God releases us from our fleshly weaknesses. Col. 2:11 NLT When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. In verse 11, we see a different spiritual reality: That of our receiving a spiritual circumcision. This invisible circumcision was performed by Christ, and putting two and two together, I conclude that his own crucifixion is what made this possible. Verse 12 is linked with the word ‘For', describing how this circumcision takes place. 2:12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. So in chapter 3, Paul says we died, and here in chapter 2, we have been buried with Christ when we were baptized. This is exactly what Romans 6 says also. Note that the spiritual reality of our spiritual death and resurrection is so important that God gave a command for all believers to be baptized, so that all believers would have the physical experience of baptism to remind them. We can see the picture in the Lord's supper, where we take the symbols of Jesus' death right into our bodies. We in effect become unified with the Lord in that sacrement (John 6:56). We see our spiritual death in Jesus' words in Mark 8:34: “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” Look deeper and you will find this concept in so many places. It turns out that if we are to be ‘born again' (as in John 3), then it implies that something fatal has happened to our old life. Consider the details: We are born again ‘of water and the Spirit'. (John 3:5) I love the powerful implications of our being ‘crucified with Christ' in Romans 12:1-2. Rom. 12:1-2 NLT And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. In our Plain Indonesian Translation we found it more powerful to translate ‘give your bodies to God' as a promise spoken directly to God: “O God, I offer up my body as a sacrifice to You.” I suggest that you, my listener, say that out loud: “O God, I offer up my body as a sacrifice to You.” Now notice that your having made that commitment is the prerequisite for verse 2! This is the way that we ‘let God transform' us into new people! We become transformed in our minds. We will think differently. There is an added bonus promise: We will discover God's will for us, “which is good and pleasing and perfect.” I think by now you will agree with me. This is what we want! And I hope that I have proved that this spiritual reality of our being crucified with Christ and resurrected by the Spirit is the key to our transformation. Readings: ROM.6.1-14, 8:10-13; 12:1-2 2CO.5.14-15 GAL.2.19-20 COL.2.11-15 COL.3.1-11 EPH2.6 There are basically four steps to buckling the belt of truth: Realize: Be alert when reading the Bible for truths that are presented as true for believers in Christ, but which seem too good to be true.
