[to be read in the voice of Nick Wiger] William Hanna and Joseph Barbera met when they were both working at MGM studios in 1930. This was a time when Disney was still building their monopoly on family entertainment, and they were the kings of animation. In 1957, they joined forces to create H-B Enterprises (eventually renamed to Hanna-Barbera Productions), in the hopes of challenging the vast empire that Disney's animated films had created. Jumping off the popularity of the characters Tom & Jerry, originally developed under MGM, they developed a larger cast of characters, including Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear. While Disney and various animated shorts throughout the years had been produced for film, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera saw the future in a new medium that was growing in popularity: television. Up to this point cartoons hadn't been produced specifically for TV, but in 1960, with the creation of The Flintstones, they had figured out the right formula to make cartoons appealing to a primetime audience. By spending slightly less on the animation, but making up for it with dynamite vocal performances (such as hiring the legendary Mel Blanc AKA Bugs Bunny) and all in the sitcom family setting, they could make a cartoon that a lot of people wanted to see. The immense popularity of The Flintstones lead to countless more Hanna-Barbera classics that we know and love, including the futuristic counterpart to The Flinstones called The Jetsons. The Jetsons was far less popular, only getting 24 episodes in the original run, as opposed to the 6 seasons that The Flintstones got, but it slowly built a cult following; and by the 80s it was popular again and for the first time in 20 years, they made new episodes with much of the original cast. However, by '89 much of the cast was getting on in years and it was time to give The Jetsons a theatrical farewell. For Jetsons: The Movie they tried to use the formula that had given them success so long ago, using polished but still simple animation including dynamite vocal performances (this time, hiring the pop icon Tiffany to play Judy Jetson and hopefully bring in a younger audience) and including an environmental message in the main story. But this time, the formula didn't quite work. It was difficult to complete, as both Mel Blanc and George O'Hanlon died during production, and ended up getting pretty awful reviews from the critics at the time. But going back and watching it, the movie (and it's killer 80s pop soundtrack) is a strange time capsule, where it represents both nostalgia for the 60s and the 80s at the same time... with Brad and Jon and Griffin and Alex from Woodchickens! It’s time to experience a classic!  This episode we head to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to take a spin on Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.  Located in Tomorrowland, the guide map describes this attraction thusly, “Travel through the 20th Century to see how technology has improved our way of life."  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being a slow ride.  Before we answer the age old question of just what is shining at the end of every day, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney’s Carousel of progress. 1. In the 1950’s Walt Disney came up with the foundation of the idea for the Carousel of Progress but the technology available to the Imagineers at the time made it impossible.  It wasn’t until General Electric approached Walt Disney to develop a show for the 1964//65 World’s Fair that Walt was able to make the show a reality, opening on April 22, 1964.  After a successful run at the Fair, the show was moved to Disneyland where it opened on July 2, 1967.  The show ran at Disneyland until September 1973 when it was moved, at General Electric’s urging, to Walt Disney World.  The show opened at the Magic Kingdom on January 15, 1975 and still runs daily at the time of this recording. 2.  The carousel theatre concept, where the audience revolves around the stage, was developed by a team of imagineers led by Bob Gurr and Roger E. Broggie.  This allowed the guests to remain seated during the duration of the show rather than getting up and moving to the next theatre as had been the original plan. 3.  The attraction’s iconic song, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow’ was written by Disney Legends, The Sherman Brothers.  When it first opened at Walt Disney World, it had a new song, also written by the Sherman Brothers called The Best Time Of Your Life.  In 1993, when the show was given a major overhaul and an update, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow returned to the show.  The Sherman Brothers have stated that that song, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow was Walt Disney’s Theme Song as he was always so optimistic about the future. 4.  The show’s original narrator, playing the part of the father, was singing cowboy Rex Allen.  When the show was overhauled in 1993, that role went to radio personality Jean Shepherd, author of the stories that inspired the movie A Christmas Story.  Rex Allen was still in the show, this time playing the Grandfather in Act 3.  One other voiceover note, Mel Blanc, the legendary voice actor behind Bugs Bunny and Daffy duck, plays Uncle Orville in the show.  And Janet Waldo who voices the grandmother in Act 4 was also the voice of Judy Jetson on The Jetsons 5.  Of the 32 different audio animatronic figures in the attraction, a crowd favorite is Rover, the family dog.  In the current show, Rover is the dog’s name the entire time.  When the attraction first opened at Walt Disney World, the dog had a different name in every scene including Buster, Sprot, Quieenie and Rover. Now let’s sit back and enjoy Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.  Joining me today is John B. dehaas and after the ride audio we’ll give you our shouts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we are about to experience Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney WOrld’s Magic Kingdom!   FOLLOW US http://www.facebook.com/attractionchecklist  http://www.facebook.com/saturdaymorningmedia  http://www.twitter.com/SaturdayMMedia  https://plus.google.com/+Saturdaymorningmedia  https://www.linkedin.com/company/saturday-morning-media http://www.youtube.com/user/SaturdayMorningMedia?sub_confirmation=1 FOLLOW GRANT http://www.MrGrant.comhttp://www.twitter.com/toasterboy  https://instagram.com/throwingtoasters/ Sources: WALT DISNEY WORLD WEBSITEhttps://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/attractions/magic-kingdom/walt-disney-carousel-of-progress/ WIKIPEDIAhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney%27s_Carousel_of_Progress ALLEARS.NEThttp://allears.net/tp/mk/mk_cop.htm Show ©2018 Saturday Morning Media/Grant Baciocco

TIFFANY is back! ...to her roots. The dynamic voice of the 80s has returned to where it all started for her, country music and the Nashville music scene. Now a critically praised songwriter, Tiffany is set to capture your hearts again...with her new album of country rock inflused tunes! She also just wrapped a starring role in the SyFy Channel Original Movie "Mega Piranha", stars in a national commercial with Meatloaf, & appeared on the CBS TV shows "The Young & the Restless" & “How I Met Your Mother.” The “I Think We’re Alone Now” Girl recently Won VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club! Needless to say it gathered her an avalanche of press from the cover of “In Touch” Magazine, radio to television show like the Tyra Banks show, Entertainment Tonight and the Insider TV shows. Tiffany began her career at the age of 13 when she signed her first recording contract with MCA. The self-titled debut album was released in 1987 and eventually went quadruple platinum. The innovative “Mall Tour” that followed proved to be the signature for Tiffany’s early career and was very effective in targeting her core audience of young teens making Tiffany the youngest female artist to debut at number one on the Billboard charts. Tiffany produced three top ten hits, two of which were national and international #1 pop singles “Could’ve Been” and the celebrated “I Think We’re Alone Now.” The soon-to-be teen pop phenomenon, New Kids on the Block, got their big break as the opening act for her world tour. Tiffany released her second album, Hold An Old Friend’s Hand, which went double platinum and featured the top ten hit “All This Time.” In addition to her ground breaking successful music career, Tiffany had the opportunity to be the voice of Judy Jetson in the feature version of the popular cartoon series, The Jetsons.
