Dragon Con, our favorite gigantic nerdfest of the year, is just a couple of weeks away, and we're already exhausted. Today we're looking at Dragon Con's guest list of TV and movie stars, writers, artists, musicians, scientists, podcasters, puppeteers, and miscellaneous weirdos. Including: A trio of Lord of the Rings hobbits, a Monty Python guy, a Robot Chicken guy, a bunch of Fraggles, a bunch of Star Trek actors (including a certain bearded Commander whose birthday we're celebrating), a flute-playing astronaut, Canadian teen pop star Robin Sparkles, and more. We're also thrilled to announce the release of Dragon Tales, a collection of stories and essays all about Dragon Con. (There's even a contribution from Kevin, and believe it or not, it's completely ridiculous.) This is a super-fun book, and all the proceeds go to charity, so we hope you'll pop over to Amazon and order a copy right now. Next week: The dragon talk continues, and it just keeps getting weirder. "Single Stamina" (November 27, 2006) Now that HIMYM has been off the air for a full decade, it's worth considering how this show holds up better than most from the early 2000s did. Not only did it give us Robin Sparkles, it just might be the only TV show to compare equally well to both Friends and Lost, as improbable as that sounds. This episode has Wayne Brady playing a gay character in a bit of stunt casting that worked a lot better before he came out, but it also just might be the thing that convinced Neil Patrick Harris to finally come out as well. My guest today went to Club Med Cancun for a two-week vacation in December of 1989. He started as a G.M. that week, but wound up as an au pair Snorkeling and Picnic G.O. We will get into that and more on this episode of My First Season. From Maple Ridge, British Columbia, I am pleased to welcome to the podcast, Dean Barbour! Dean was looking to relax for two weeks when he went to Club Med Cancun as a G.M., but he ended up tearing the ligaments in his ankle and was on crutches for the rest of his stay. The G.O. team showed exceptional care for Dean during his vacation and this made him approach the Chief of Village, Ye, to see if he could work there. Dean moved to Sailing a few months later and then to Landsports. After Cancun, he went to Club Med Huatulco in December 1990 to November 1991 as Landsports. While at Huatulco, he starred as the love interest in a Nathalie Simard music video called “Reste Ami”! While everyone from Quebec knows who pop singer Nathalie Simard is, we will explain in the interview for the rest of the world who does not! From the second Dean sent me this video, I had so many questions! He was very kind and patient to discuss this hidden piece of 90's gold with me. Not since Barney Stinson uncovered the “Robin Sparkles” video in “How I Met Your Mother”, has there been a greater video! I see your “Let's Go to the Mall” or “Sandcastles in the Sand” and raise you one “Reste Ami” video (or as I'm calling it, Floorplans in the Sand-you will understand why once you watch the video!). After Club Med, Dean studied Dramatic Arts at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and then got a Business Administration degree at Mt. San Antonio College in California. The interview ends with Dean telling us the three things he misses the most about Club Med. Please enjoy this episode with a very funny man!!**My First Season podcast has always been free to listen to and ad-free and is available on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. And if you like what you hear, please leave a review at Apple podcasts. Here is the famous video with Nathalie Simard that we spoke about. Dean is the shirtless, blonde hunk in the video. Today, after 2 years of social distance and an increase in online shopping, it seems worth it to take a look back and see what made malls such special places, that songs would be dedicated to them. Our first guest will be trainer Elizabeth Lizzie Merryman. After two consecutive stakes triumphs at five furlongs, her homebred Caravel carried her winning form into graded-stakes company, following a torrid pace and gunning down frontrunner Robin Sparkles in mid-stretch to conquer the G3, $200,000 Caress for older fillies and mares contesting 5 1/2 furlongs over Saratoga Race Course's Mellon turf. It was the first graded stakes win for Caravel and her owner/breeder/trainer. Caravel is now co-owned by Elizabeth Merryman in partnership with celebrity chef Bobby Flay who recently purchased 75% of the filly. Following the Caress, Caravel will be transferred to the barn of fellow Fair Hill based trainer Graham Motion, with eyes set on the G1, $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint on November 6 at Del Mar. Merryman will remain a part owner. We have talked for weeks about her. He's watched her train pretty much every day, Merryman said. He's just been so nice and classy and sweet about her. He was very much laying low today, but we talked a lot about her and we'll continue to talk about her. And we'll be talking with Lizzie about what it was like to raise a foal from birth and train her through a graded stakes victory at Saratoga. We'll also address her mixed feelings about watching her homebred success being led from her stall to the shed row of a new trainer. Terry Hill will be our guest handicapper for Whitney Weekend at Saratoga. Hill has been a writer all his life, first in advertising and later as the the co-author of the Two Guys series of books (Two Guys Read Moby-Dick, Two Guys Read the Obituaries, Two Guys Read the Box Scores, etc.). For the last three years he has been working for the Saratoga Special as a horse racing writer and columnist. Simultaneously he has been forging a career out of being old. His ambition is to live forever. So far, so good. Looking for his first Grade 1 win since the Pegasus World Cup Invitational last winter, Knicks Go drew post 4 on Wednesday and was made the 6-5 morning-line favorite against Maxfield, Silver State, By My Standards and champion filly Swiss Skydiver in Saturday's $1 million Whitney Stakes at Saratoga. The 1 1/8-mile, no-Lasix race is an automatic qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Classic. Swiss Skydiver (6-1) was drawn into post 3. Originally scheduled to race July 25 against fillies and mares in the Shuvee Stakes, she was forced to wait through a quarantine brought on by a positive equine-herpesvirus test in a nearby barn stall at Saratoga. Forced into an alternative plan, trainer Kenny McPeek decided to give his 2020 Preakness victor a chance to become the seventh filly ever to win the Whitney, and the first in 33 years. She is 1-for-1 at Saratoga, having won last year in the Alabama (G1). The Whitney is the only $1 million race on Saturday at the Spa. Terry and John will also analyze the Saratoga Derby Invitational on the turf and the G1, $500,000 Longines Test

Can't say enough positive comments about these podcasting AGENTS. https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/legends-of-shield-an-unofficia-42492/reviews/32961   E-MAIL   Oh8four 1:14 PM (1 hour ago)   Welp, that all happened.   I feel like all the setup of the last episode really paid off here.  Souza is adapting the best that he can, but there's only so much a person can take before they start to lose it like he did on Simmons and Deke.  There's some really fresh-out-of-the-ice-Steve-Rogers vibes he's putting off.  I did like the on-screen chemistry between him and Daisy, though.  Her showing him that not all tech is bad was a nice moment.   Is LMD Simmons still a thing?? I was sure this was the episode where she would reveal it at the end and then lead us into a Fitzsimmons flashback extravaganza next week, but alas, no such luck.  Still, they're pushing the idea pretty hard with her and Enoch's conversation, despite the fact that she apparently wasn't affected by the EMP in episodes 3 and 4 like Coulson was.   It's clear from the writing that they're paying attention to themselves.  They're acknowledging mostly everything that reviews and podcasts have questioned so far, including Simmons' confusion with the random timer, the Malick chronology from season 3, and of course May and Yoyo's inconsistencies in the early episodes.  That impresses me considering this has been in the can for over a year.    Finally, I'm hoping not to hear too much Mack hate this week.  In his position, I can't say I would have flooded that base with my parents inside, even if I was the director of SHIELD preventing a Hydra attack.  At least he had a semi-effective Plan B that hopefully won't have too many consequences next week (although I'm sure the consequences will lead to some fun action.)    Until next time!       Oh8four Fri, Jun 19, 12:19 PM (6 days ago)   SO GOOD!!!   Clark Gregg has been aching to narrate some noire and it shows.  The style of the episode was absolutely perfect.  Between the lack of faces shown, the title "Out of the past," and clips I've seen of Sousa in later-era clothing, I think we all saw the team's decision to take him with them a mile away, but the idea is so exciting to me that I don't care.  As always, I'm curious as to whether their machinations were simply a way to emulate what actually happened in their past without dams, or if this is just the way that it always was.  But again, it's so fun that I don't really care, and I think that's their aim for this season: look at our time travel logic any way that you want, but just have fun doing it.  And I think it's working.   Chronology notes: According to the timecard in the amazing episode Paradise Lost, Malick died in 1970.  If they decide to bring him back as an elderly man post 1973 (when No More Mr Nice Guy was released), either the Chronicoms faked his death like Souza's or it's some sloppy chronology.  I myself wouldn't mind seeing the actor who played young Gideon back because I remember he was excellent in the role.   What else did I like? -The status quo conversation with Yoyo and Deke -The menacing actor they got for Malick.  Totally selling it as the guy who would have raised Gideon. -Sousa's balance of falling for some things vs not falling for others.  He might be a SHIELD legend and a great character, but he's no Peggy Carter, and he shouldn't be written as infallible. -May's trip to the other world turning her into a super empath.  I love the idea of where we can go with that. -Bartender Enoch was everything.   Until next time!   OUTRO [49:35]   Haley, Lauren, Michelle and Stargate Pioneer love to hear back from you about how you would rate the episode we just discussed, your top 5 Marvel character lists, your science of Marvel questions, who would you pick in an all-female Avenger team, or which Marvel male you would like to see shirtless. Hey ATA Listeners, our milestone 150th episode of Across the Airwaves is a tribute to Canada because if we didn't have the country of the Maple leaf, the city of Vancouver would never have been built and therefore the TV shows we review couldn't exist since there would be no place to film them. Then again, not all the shows we cover are filmed in Vancouver but I'm sure through using IMDb and entertainment resources of the like you could a way of associating this shows we cover on ATA to Canada through a guest star or making a ton of jokes about the country like on How I Met Your Mother. In other words, I'm on a roll here so whether this episode brings out your inner Dudley Do Right, Alan Thicke or Robin Sparkles just go with it as we pay tribute to Canada through our main section reviewing Once upon a Time, Almost Human and Supernatural (shows I know for a fact were filmed in Vancouver) as well as our sitcom section going over episodes of How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. Also there's more where that came from as the Airwaves Rundown discusses shows where their connections to Canada might be a stretch but definitely worth our time anyway such as Homeland, The Walking Dead, The Blacklist, South Park, Once upon a Time in Wonderland, The Tomorrow People, TNT's Mob City, Elementary, Glee and Grimm. By the way, Andy wanted me to mention that if you want more of his thoughts on this week's Once upon a Time check out his spot as a guest host on the Operation Cobra Podcast located here: http://www.operationcobrapodcast.com/2013/12/episode-181-save-henry.html.
