While some people take pride in being a perfectionist, the fact is no one is perfect, so it is a somewhat pointless quest to try. Being a perfectionist can also be bad for your health and longevity in a big way. Listen as I begin this episode explaining the dangers of perfectionism. http://www.livescience.com/6724-dark-side-perfectionism-revealed.html In school, we are taught to write well. However, when we communicate in the real world today, effective writing – the kind that people will actually read and respond to - is often not the writing you learned in English class. Research has proven that if you want people to read what you write you need to write using certain principles and discard some of the rules you learned in school. Here to help you understand the science of writing, so people will read it is Todd Rogers. Todd is a behavioral scientist, a professor at Harvard and author of the book Writing for Busy Readers: Communicate More Effectively in the Real World (https://amzn.to/48VFmsF). Have you ever wished you were a better person? Well, if so, here is some good news - it doesn't take much to be better and make a difference. That is the contention of my guest Kate Hanley. Kate is the host of the How to Be a Better Person podcast (https://katehanley.com/podcast/). And author of the book How to Be a Better Person (https://amzn.to/46BGyzD). She is here to explain how just a few little actions could make you feel better about yourself while actually making a difference in the world. And what could be wrong with that.  Trick or treating can be serious business for some people. It's all about getting the most candy in the least amount of time. Kate Hanley Corley, comedian, music video creator, writer, mother. Kate does it all! We discuss how she came to do her first Fringe festival show in 2012, Melbourne International Comedy Festival show in 2013 and how it has all snowballed from there. She performs a lot of musical comedy in her shows, and has made numerous music video clips that have gone viral! Kate has enjoyed success from her first festival show onwards, and we get an insight into how she has made that happen. She talks about how she is starting to come out from behind the characters and music to do straight stand-up as herself. And oh yes, and Kate is a mother of three children in high school. No mean feat! How does she manage writing, producing and performing in her own shows while being a mother of three? Listen and find out! Kate knows how to promote effectively, and she's great at gathering a supportive team around her – essential skills for any professional performer. With the upcoming Melbourne International Comedy Festival, any performer looking for ways to get themselves out there – this podcast is a must! Kate shows us that we don't all have to tread the same path. Kate is having both creative and financial success without performing at 4 open mic nights per week. She has used character and musical comedy to create this success – unconventional these days on the comedy scene, but she makes it work, and has a following. She's expanding into more straight stand up now, but my point is that we don't all have to follow the same rule book. Do it our own way. Start with what we know, or what we have just learned, and go from there. I play you out with one of her hilarious parodies from lockdown – Victoria! You can find it on YouTube. It's hilarious – well worth checking out, as well as her show in the upcoming MICF – Bad Mother. #thatkimberly #caregiversstories In this episode of Caregivers Stories, I interview Kate Hanley, who is a former caregiver (Old Forge, New York) and now, an author Breakfast Memories: A Dementia Love Story. Kate shares many things; one of the many, she answers my questions about what people should know when it comes to dementia or those with dementia? Kate says, "show up," be in the moment Kimberly, and I promise you I witnessed it myself Kimberly, yeah, is a memory there, if, in fact, your loved one doesn't know who you are. They can't say it because it's in their mind, but their heart knows it, there's some. There's a purpose behind their smile. Yeah, Absolutely. And she's definitely, I think that was the hardest part for me. And being the child that wanted to take this on, she was the one who decided on saying she was the one that managed everybody so for her to be able to not totally give it up, but for the most part, that's very difficult so I had to find the kindness and the way to go about doing it without getting into a fight with her argument because it's not worth her time here. To do that, I definitely had to learn that very quickly that not to argue just to agree or redirect and move on, because otherwise we'd be fighting all the time and it's not worth being on this planet with her and not enjoying the time I have right katehanleyauthor@gmail.com www.breakfastmemories.com Listen to other episodes or signup to be a guest on a Podcast: https://thatkimberly.com/convos-with-kimberly/ Connect on: FB: https://www.facebook.com/thatkimberlyscott Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thatkimberly IG: https://www.instagram.com/thatkimscott Twitter: https://twitter.com/that_kimberly Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdrDMJCNq8kxGGgqsO8avwQ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thatkimberly/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thatkimberly/support
