Welcome to The Write Start podcast. I'm your host, Lisa Iannucci, and today my guest is Susan Hartzler. Susan is a full-time freelance writer and author who says that her journey as a writer has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. Honestly, I think like pretty much everything. Every writer can say that because it's that kind of a career, but I can't wait to hear about her journey and why she says that. Now I'm going to shorten her bio a bit because it's extensive, and I'll let Susan talk a little more about her life. But her latest book, The Peace Puppy, a memoir of caregiving and canine solace, published by McFarland Publishing, explores the profound impact of canine love Companionship as a rescue dog named Baldwin instinctively assumes the role of interim caregiver to his caregiver owner and her ailing father. Her debut memoir, I'm Not Single, I Have a Dog, Dating Tales from the Bark Side was also published by McFarland Publishing. Welcome to The Write Start Podcast. I'm your host, Lisa Iannucci. Happy 2025 and I'm starting this podcast off on the right foot. Today my guest is actor/producer, SEAN KANAN and his wife MICHELE KANAN. Sean you know either from Netflix's COBRA KAI (one of my favorite shows), CBS's The Bold & The Beautiful, the original Karate Kid, his Emmy-winning role on Studio City, or any of his other film/TV credits). Michele Kanan is an Emmy-winning producer, writer, and director. She has produced several films, including Darkness of Man starring Jean-Claude Van Dam, 'Til Death Do Us Part, and the sci-fi film Colonials, starring Greg Kriek. In 2021, Michele won an Emmy for OUTSTANDING DIGITAL DRAMA for STUDiO CiTY (streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Roku), which has received over twenty Emmy nominations.Together and the reason they are talking to me is because they co-authored the book WAY OF THE COBRA COUPLES which is not their first book. We dive into that book and the others, Sean's interest in writing, how they worked as a team to write a book, and more, and yes, they do provide some relationship advice for the new year. Now I  have to admit that for some reason I found myself a little loud at the beginning of the interview. I must have been exciting to do the interview! But I do settle down after a little bit. I hope you enjoy the interview too. I had the pleasure to talk to Erik about his process, how he started working with these athletes and what else he does in his career. A little about Erik Sherman -- He has been writing professionally since he was 14 years old. He's the author of Out At Home, with former Dodgers and A's outfielder Glenn Burke, who invented the ‘high five' and died tragically of AIDS, is currently being made into a movie by actress/producer Jamie Lee Curtis through Amazon Studios.  Sherman is also the co-author of four other highly acclaimed baseball autobiographies with Steve Blass, Mookie Wilson, Davey Johnson, the 69 Mets, and his most recent book is Two Sides of Glory: The 1986 Boston Red Sox In Their Own Words which has an April 1, 2021 release date.  Erik is an annual lecturer at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.I hope you enjoy the interview.Well, that's it for this week's edition of The Write Start podcast. You can find Misshelved on several platforms, including Spotify.  Please check it out. So for this week's interview, I talk to author Barbara Clarke's about her new memoir The Red Kitchen. I wanted to dive into the writing of a memoir because I talk to so many writers who want to start their careers by writing their memoir but really don't have an idea of how to go about it and since this is Clarke's second memoir, I thought she would have some good insight on the process. I was right. Clarke's book chronicles the long-term effects of an early childhood trauma and how that alters a life's course, but it's written in a way that's deep and funny all at the same time  “The Red Kitchen” (April 6, 2021, She Writes Press)/ Enjoy the interview -- oh and sorry about the noise in this one I'm working on it again but you can still hear it! Please follow me on Instagram at @thevirgintraveler as well as @thewritestartpodcast and If you like what you heard on this podcast, please share the podcast and leave me a rating or a review wherever you listen to The Write Start.
