This one's a doozie, that's for sure. Shanley chose 2018's Kickboxer Retaliation, the fifth in Van Damme's Kickboxer franchise. This film is full of mystical (if nonsensical) proverbs from a fifty-something Van Damme and a hero with an odd choice of motivations and priorities. This will be our final normal episode for the year before we kick into our holiday special, so hop aboard! ('cause there's a train in this movie too, or something).
Writer and Director, Dimitri Logothetis, is scoring smash box-office hits with his Jiu Jitsu movie, starring Nicolas Cage, reaching #4 on Netflix. Logothetis is credited for reinvigorating the famed KICKBOXER franchise with a trilogy of films showcasing world-class martial artists. His upcoming KICKBOXER: Armageddon is described as the most ambitious film in the franchise. JIU JITSU earned media coverage unheard of for an independent feature and was seen by millions, by bringing together Cage, an outlandish premise, world-class martial artists, and Logothetis' credibility fans around the world. The movie delivered on fans' expectations, and the next film is even crazier, say movie insiders Logothetis has written and directed various genres, from action, thriller, sci-fi, and horror. Last year he helmed the box office hit action film KICKBOXER: RETALIATION starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Mike Tyson, which holds an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Hollywood Reporter raved about the film calling it "A stylish and enjoyable fight flick with just enough tongue-in-cheek content to keep us smiling." KICKBOXER: Vengeance reintroduced the classic story to audiences worldwide, and KICKBOXER: Retaliation broke through, earning near-universal praise from audiences and critics alike. Lauded by fans and critics alike, Vengeance and Retaliation have proven to have longevity, ranking in the top action films on Netflix year after year. In this episode, Logothetis explains the success with audiences behind his movies and takes us through his career, working with legends and celebrities from Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro to sports icons Mohammed Ali and Mike Tyson. Logothetis, a Greek American, describes himself as an immigrant who is proud of the successful life and career he has achieved in America. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/john-aidan-byrne0/support
I was so excited about this action packed episode, I forgot to introduce the team! So, Mike Rich and Steve tackle a whole bunch of International action movies this week. We start with PHARAOH'S WAR - Mike Tyson and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Kickboxer Retaliation, Game of Thrones) feature prominently on the DVD cover but do they feature much in the film iteslf? Take a listen to find out! Next up is RUSSIAN RAID, heavily influenced by Gareth Evans' film (hence the name) but does it stand up on its own merits? Off to France next, for SENTINELLE, starring Olga Kurylenko as a damages soldier seeking vengeance for a brutal attack on her sister. There a lot of negativity online about this film, but take a listen to see if we are in agreement! (Available on Netflix). We then catch the, ahem, Eurostream train from London to Paris, which is promptly hijacked by Ruby Rose in SAS: RED NOTICE based on a novel by Andy McNab. This one promised a lot, but does it live up to expectations? Our Short Shot is SOF Vs Sci Fi, in which a team of Spec Ops are pitted against zombies and a well-known alien hunter! Finally, in our DTV Throwback we review Jean-Claude Van Damme's LEGIONNAIRE - soon to be re-released on Blu Ray and available on Prime. Don't forget to check out our Twitter and Facebook Pages!
Happy Wednesday We have a great show for you today with Alain Moussi and Dave Asprey! Alain Moussi will be talking about "Fitness Advice From A True Action Hero." Dave Asprey will be discussing "Fast This Way; Burn Fat, Heal Inflammation, and Eat Like The High Performing Human You Were Meant To Be." So, let's get started! Alain Moussi Alain Moussi is Hollywood’s real life, hard-hitting action hero, starring in leading films including JIU JITSU, KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE, and KICKBOXER: RETALIATION, transitioning from stuntman and fight choreographer on huge blockbuster hits including SHAZAM!, SUICIDE SQUAD, and X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, to name a few. Alain has taken his 25+ years of martial arts training, his Hollywood action hero experience ,and his love for fitness to create K2XFIT. K2XFIT is a transformational fitness app for all levels. When Alain is not acting, choreographing fights, or falling out of buildings, he is running his thriving martial arts school, NX Martial Arts & Fitness. Alain also loves spending time with his daughter Annabelle at their home in Canada. Fitness Advice From A True Action Hero Alain Moussi is an Gabonese-Canadian actor, stuntman and martial artist. He plays the lead role of Kurt Sloane in the reboot of Kickboxer series. Alain got into fitness and stuntman work after he saw the movie "Blood Sport." From the start, he became attracted to action movies. From the characters to the real people like Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Bernadette says it is so interesting how we can be influenced by film, but also by what our parents are doing! Balance is such an important part of martial arts, and you must understand how to control your center of gravity. K2XFit is a program that will give you that ripped athletic physique in just a few quick 30 minute sessions per week while actually having fun, guaranteed. Dave Asprey Dave Asprey is the founder and Chairman of Bulletproof 360, a high performance coffee and food company, and creator of the widely popular Bulletproof Coffee. He is a three-time New York Times best selling author. Dave is also host of the Webby award-winning podcast Bulletproof Radio, and has been featured on the Today show, Fox News, Nightline, CNN, and dozens more. Over the last two decades Dave has been the “Father of Biohacking”.He has worked with world-renowned doctors, researchers, scientists and global mavericks to uncover the latest, most innovative methods, techniques and products for enhancing mental and physical performance. Fast This Way; Burn Fat, Heal Inflammation, and Eat Like The High Performing Human You Were Meant To Be: Fasting The definition of biohacking when Dave first created it was "changing the biology inside of you." Now, this has changed. Biohacking now is a crazy-sounding name for something not crazy at all—the desire to be the absolute best version of ourselves. The right nutrition is key. Eat lots of veggies lathered in grass-fed butter (the good stuff.) Eat grass-fed beef, pastured eggs, and low-mercury fish (like wild sockeye salmon) and be moderate with starches and fruits. "I invite you to read Fast This Way with an eye towards becoming more resilient at everything you do in your life. And yes, you might have to buy smaller pants, and you might live a lot longer. Those are side effects of doing things that make you feel great, right away." When you fast, you are aware of all the spiritual thoughts in your head. You are aware of everything going on around you. Suffering and fasting are optional, only if you want to. Thank You! A big thank you to our guests, Dave Asprey and Alain Moussi! Click here to order Dave’s new book, “Fast This Way,” here! We had REALLY high hopes for our two movies this time on the podcast, but to say that they both weren't winners would be a HUGE understatement. Both films are directed by Dimitri Logothetis and feature enormous dudes beating the crap out of each other. We start off with 2018's "Kickboxer: Retaliation" which continues the story that started with Jean-Claude Van Damme's hit film from 1989. VanDamme even reprises his role and serves as a mentor to the film's lead, played by Alain Moussi. It tells the story of an MMA fighter who goes to a Thailand prison where he is groomed to fight Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who played the Mountain, in Game of Thrones. There's other famous faces around, including Christopher Lambert, Mike Tyson and many high-level MMA fighters. It is a lot of dumb fun with some fantastic action set-pieces and a fairly predictable storyline. The second film is where the real trouble begins. We had seen the trailer for 2020's "Jiu Jitsu" and it looked completely amazing! Also featuring Alain Moussi in the lead, it had Tony Jaa, Frank Grillo and Nicolas Cage!!! How could this thing be bad!?!? Well, it turns out that it could be bad in every single way imaginable. With a story that borrows liberally from "Predator" we have a team of elite fighters traveling to fight an alien who comes to Earth to compete against our best in combat to the death. It is dumb, confusing and badly assembled. Really just a huge step down from the first film. Please let us know what you thought of the show and send us some suggestions for future episodes. Please send emails to flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Another instalment of your favorite podcast! This time we bring you an action, a horror, and a comedy. Three diverse choices for whatever your needs may be. Nostalgic for an 80s action throwback? Or how about a classic King story? Maybe you just need a good laugh? We can all relate. We start each new episode as always with the groups review of each other's previous recommendations. So if you have not seen those yet feel free to skip ahead about 23 minutes or so to stay spoiler free. Again, thanks for checking us out. Please rate and review. On this weeks episode we talk about what could be the worst movie we have covered to date, yes worse that Terror Vision. IMDB Americas Deadliest Home Videos TUCSON, ARIZONA, January 31, 2019—Arizona-based filmmakers Brandy Mason and Tim Fattig today announced the launch of the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for their upcoming horror/comedy film Ed and the Living Dead, a violent, darkly funny zombie tale set in the summer of 1959 and featuring the “world's worst filmmaker,” Edward D. Wood, Jr. (Plan 9 From Outer Space, Glen or Glenda). “The zombie film is an incredibly durable sub-genre, but sometimes it needs a little twist to be really engaging,” said producer/director Mason (a horror veteran with more than thirty credits, among them Don't Fuck in the Woods and its upcoming sequel, WrestleMassacre, and Rednecks) . “Dropping iconic figures like Ed Wood and Criswell into the mix and setting the film in the 1950s instantly changes what the audience will expect from the story.” Ed and the Living Dead features a fantastic cast of established and rising stars from the horror world. Jason Crowe (Volumes of Blood, The Bad Man) stars as the high-strung director Ed Wood, while David E. McMahon (American Guinea Pig: The Song of Solomon, Bonehill Road) plays Wood's long-suffering film producer George Weiss. Also starring in this much-anticipated zomb-edy: Angela Pritchett (Steve: Death Collector, Partners); Vida Ghaffari (Holy Terror, RoboWoman), Kaylee Williams (Mrs. Claus, Ahockalypse), Charles Chudabala (Escape From Ensenada, Ugly Sweater Party), Ryan Brewer (Larry and the Monsters, Never Been to Graceland), Julie Anne Prescott (Clown Motel: Spirits Arise, Meathook Massacre 4), Brett DeJager (director of Bonejangles and Cryptids), Mindy Gilkerson (The Second Coming, Art of the Dead), Nick Payne (All Eyez on Me, Kickboxer: Retaliation), and Maria Olsen (Paranormal Activity 3, Starry Eyes). Acclaimed musician and film composer Rocky Gray (The Barn, 10/31) will be providing the film's score. Illustrator William Skaar (Heavy Metal, Deanna of the Dead) designed the teaser poster for the film. Ed and the Living Dead indiegogo Tee Public Store

Alain Moussi has enjoyed a rapid rise from stuntman to starring roles to leading his own martial arts movie franchise. As Kurt Sloane, he is the poster-boy at the heart of the rebooted Kickboxer franchise – a role made famous by his childhood hero, Jean-Claude Van Damme – which was launched in 2016 with the film Kickboxer: Vengeance. The second instalment, Kickboxer: Retaliation, received rave reviews upon its release in 2018, with The Hollywood Reporter calling it “stylish and enjoyable”, and Forbes calling it an “absolute must-see”. The film is available now on Blu-ray and DVD in the UK from Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment. The man behind the franchise is the producer and director, Dimitri Logothetis, and halfway through this chat with Alain, Dimitri unexpectedly joins the conversation to tell us more about the challenges of remaking such a beloved franchise, and his plans to bring back authenticity to martial arts movies in the age of computer-generated superheroes. Alain is a chatty, engaging guest who is also a martial arts instructor based in Ottawa, Canada. We discuss his approach to teaching as well as his road to stardom, from doubling the likes of Channing Tatum, Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill, to taking his first steps as a leading man. Alain and Dimitri are also collaborating on more movies together, including a new sci-fi franchise called Jiu Jitsu, which we also get to discuss.
