It's a special edition of the Unofficial 40. For the first time in a long time, no coronavirus talk on the podcast. But we are joined by longtime media favorite Zack Sanchez who gives his perspective on that turbulent spring during 2015 when the team turned in their helmets for the right to protest after a racist incident rocked the OU campus. We talk with Sanchez about what it was like then and what the team is facing now as social unrest in intertwined with athletics all over the country. We also wanted Zack to give us some insight into his days at OU including what it was like to watch Trevor Knight and Blake Bell battle to replace Landry Jones before the start of the 2013 season and a much rumored incident between OU and Clemson before the 2015 College Football Playoff game in Miami. Bob and Josh join in to talk recruiting as Josh has been on the road all week in Oklahoma checking out the top talent in the state. It's a different format, but we hope you'll take something away from our talk with Sanchez to give you a little insight into the mind of young, Black athletes during an interesting time in our country. The full rundown follows below: INTRO - Welcome to a little bit of a different Unofficial 40 this week 00:02:35 - Looking back at the SAE incident from 2015 00:10:00 - How the demonstrations and protests helped the team get through that time. 00:17:00 - The difficulty in reaching out or speaking up for so many 00:21:00 - The message for young, Black players who will be in the shoes of OU players one day 00:26:00 - His expectations on what we will see from players moving forward into the season 00:29:00 - His thoughts on LIncoln Riley in 2015 and how he's handling things now 00:31:00 - "I don't hate white people." - Zack Sanchez 00:32:10 - What it was like watching Trevor Knight and Blake Bell battle to replace Landry Jones in 2013 preseason camp 00:35:30 - 2013 was an underrated season overall 00:39:50 - The real story about Clemson, Charles Tapper and the bus 00:44:10 - Bob and Josh talk recruiting. In the opening take, Lee gives some advice to a prominent ESPN personality. Then, Grant joins the show along with Brady Trantham of "The Franchise" and many OU and OKC Thunder podcasts to talk about how we are ripping him off with this podcast (6:10). Landry Jones comes up, so does the 2012 OU-Notre Dame game, which leads to James Harden being mentioned (10:00). We begin watching the 2013 OU-Notre Dame, which includes some early big plays by the defense (13:45). OU's offense comes out on the field for the first time and has no trouble moving down the field. This leads to a debate about Damien Williams' credentials for Super Bowl MVP (21:20). Lee wants to know if OU went on to win the National Championship this season (25:55)? Trevor Knight and Blake Bell talk (26:30). There's a lull in the game so let's talk about 2008 OU-Texas (32:45). This Notre Dame offense had a lot of future NFL players (34:40). Apparently OU has always had problems with backup quarterbacks (37:00). Brady talks a little about Mike Stoops and the OU defense (38:40). Brady figures out his favorite most obscure OU football player, which is De'Mond Parker (42:00). The second quarter begins with Brady discussing OU's history against Notre Dame (44:00). So, what's the proper way to count National Championships? That inevitably leads to us trying to fix the College Football Playoff (46:30). Brady goes back to the 2000 K-State game as he talks about his first memorable OU sports moment (1:01:00). Lee goes back to the Howard Schnellenberger era to describe his first OU memory (1:04:15). Grant used to be super excited about OU going under center, plus LaColtan Bester scores a TD to close out the first half (1:07:30) | YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqrN6xWharg&list=PLgT-IQCnl5OHOrA3rbpSrp1nFeVN0J4pl&index=4 | Credit: LASooner | YouTube game action time code (9:28-37:09), (47:12-1:12:39), (1:24:25-2:04:02), (2:21:39-end) | Like the show on Facebook: @westofeverest | Follow Grant on Twitter: @GrantBenson25 | Follow Lee on Twitter: @LeeBensonNews9

This episode occurred at 3:30 a.m., so if there's anything extremely terrible about this podcast it's because I was tired but could not fall asleep. I worked on an XFL podcast for hours and stumbled upon many memories of watching Bob Stoops, Landry Jones and the Oklahoma Sooners. Landry Jones had an impact on my childhood and overall life. Not because of how great of a quarterback he ended up being, but rather of his 2009 red shirt freshman season trying to replace Sam Bradford. I was slowly getting into football and realized that this guy was nothing like Bradford but I was also 9. Landry Jones 'sucking' in 2009 helped fuel a love for football. Mainly because I thought I needed to replace him because a 9 year-old is going to be better than a 19-20 year-old. Spoiler alert, I am not the starting quarterback for the University of Oklahoma, but I am a sports media student at Oklahoma State University. I wish Coach Stoops and Landry Jones the best of luck in the XFL. If I make an XFL podcast and sound favorable to the Dallas Renegades a little too much, just let me know because I'm not trying to be like that. Also, I went on a spill about RITZ crackers for the last three minutes, felt like someone wanted to hear it and I don't feel like editing this/ I'll forget I made this. As always, thanks for listening! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/suspensesports/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/suspensesports/support

It's officially the regular season anddddd Lev Bell still hasn't shown up. What does it all mean? Nothing at all. Mark Kaboly joins the show to talk Bell, the Steelers roster, and decision to cut Crowley's lover Landry Jones. Hottest take of the day, other crap, and the three stars of the show.
Landry Jones got cut from the Steelers 53 man roster and I think it sent Crowley off the deep end. We discuss Bells absence from Steelers regular season practices. Crowley does some Pitt bashing but I don't remember what specifically it was about because I just tune him out now when he goes down this road.
Lev Bell still hasn't reported to the Steelers, but Crowley can't get over the fact that the team cut his favorite player of all time Landry Jones. Mark Kaboly joins the show to talk about Bell's absence, Landry's cut, and the opener coming up against the Browns. Is Penn State's near loss to App State the worst thing that could've happened for Pitt? We explain.
Roster Cut Down On Saturday, the Steelers cut 37 players to get down to its 53 man roster. The reason you don't listen to the so-called "experts"? No one was calling for Landry Jones to be cut. More amazing - Josh Dobbs is now the backup for Ben Roethlisberger. Really? We had that dude on the practice squad for the Panthers. We delve into this strange choice as well as the one that valued Jaylen Samuels about Fitz "The Fumbler" Tousssaint. The New and Improved Cleveland Browns The Brownies have seven new starters on offense and five new starters on defense. Should we be concerned? The first six games of the season sees the Steelers battling three divisional opponents. This will be a barometer for the season. The Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens 26-9 on Sunday in Baltimore, but not everyone on the Steelers sideline was happy. Antonio Brown found himself wide open for what would've been an easy walk in touchdown if Ben Roethlisberger would've seen him, but he didn't. Instead he threw one over Le'Veon Bell's head and the Steelers had to punt. Brown had only been targeted once on their opening drive that seen them eat up 10:23 on the clock while marching 84 yards in 16 plays before penalties halted the drive. That prompted this outburst from Brown while the Steelers punted. https://secureservercdn.net/18.104.22.168/76c.11b.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/GIFDownloader-1506904107210.mp4 “I’m passionate about the game,” he said. “Anytime you work as hard and a play doesn’t go the way you wanted, you get frustrated.” This wasn't Browns first outburt and surely it won't be his last. There was a day that Roethlisberger was hurt and Landry Jones wasn't getting him the ball. After a sideline tirade he called Jones out after the game. Roethlisberger said he understands, though. “A.B. is a playmaker. Sometimes there are not enough footballs to go around to everybody. A.B. is very passionate about wanting to help this team and take us to the next level. That’s nothing more than a competitor wanting the ball every single play.” Brown had carried the offense early on this season while Bell was getting back to form. That form finally came today as he was the focal point of the offense. He pounded the Ravens and finished them off with his second touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Whether it's Bell or Brown leading the way at the end of the day they both want what's best for the team. That is to win games. "When the game is tight he feels like he needs to make a play, Bell said. "I’ll never say A.B. is a distraction.”
Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers were anything but happy with their favorite team’s activity level in NFL Free Agency. While they sat and watched teams like the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots make improvements to the team, they had to celebrate re-signing David Johnson and Landry Jones. Nonetheless, although it might have taken them a while to warm up, the Steelers are now making moves. Better late than never, right? Do the Steelers stand a chance on Sunday? That's all I've been asked all week, and even with 7 players ruled out (2 of them being captains) I still believe there's a window of opportunity for the Steelers, led by Landry Jones, to shock the world. The precedent is there for the seemingly impossible: Tomlin has been down this road before with Charlie Batch, Michael Vick, and even Landry Jones. The precedent also exists for this defense to shutdown tight ends, and running backs, against mistake-free quarterbacks. (Hint: it just happened a few weeks ago.) Perhaps, it's not as bad as it seems, and fortunately, the still have to play the game: maybe, just maybe, the Steelers do stand a chance this Sunday against the New England Patriots. The Bengals came into Foxborough underdogs lived up to the billing. Despite a first half that delivered some hope, the Bengals fell to the Patriots and now sit at 2-4. Is this the team we are going to be seeing for the remainder of the season? Or will the Bengals be able to turn things around in the two weeks they have before their bye? We discuss this and more, including the appeal of Rob Gronkowski and the lack of appeal of Landry Jones.

Few bright spots in Eagles game; breaking down Jones’ 4 turnovers Last night's Steelers/Eagles game is probably why people don't watch preseason games. Come to think of it, I wish I could've avoided it altogether... yes, part of that is because I have been a defender of Landry Jones, and yes, even in this show, I do make up "some" excuses for the turnovers (and I'm not alone in saying this by the way! Even Mike Tomlin said there were "breakdowns.") The rest of the game was fairly uneventful too. I'll talk about the receivers, tight ends, and the defense in today's breakdown of the preseason debacle, and hopefully, I can keep my sanity when talking about these meaningless games! The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday and did so losing to Landry Jones, Pittsburgh's third string quarterback. Carson Palmer threw two interceptions and missed a wide open John Brown in the end zone. The Cards could only score one touchdown in four red zone trips. After the loss, hosts Jess and Seth talk about the different issues and wonder how in the world the Cardinals lost that game. They were dominating the first half. They talk QB play, offensive line play, the lack of focus and discuss the notion of the Cardinals beating themselves. Enjoy the show and if you want to discuss it more, head on over the Revenge of the Birds.
A room filled with heroes - Dan Hanzus, Gregg Rosenthal, Chris Wesseling, and Marc Sessler – discuss the latest news from around the NFL including Colts punter Pat McAfee’s explanation of the team’s failed fake punt, and the Steelers planning to start quarterback Landry Jones over Michael Vick in Week 7. Then the heroes debate which teams are the favorite, and which should be forked in the NFC East before diving into the ATN Mailbag.
After our brief hiatus we are back! Today we dig into some Steelers football, and how they had great success with the third string quarterback. Also why Landry Jones should take lead for the team until Roethlisberger. We share stories of sleep deprivation and why it's necessary to sometimes just get off the road. We want to make sure everyone appreciate their current circumstances. We must realize it can all be much worse. Lets not complain about the uncomfortable situations and enjoy life for its beauties and challenges! Thanks again for listening and we we talk to you next week!
Should fantasy owners look to trade Eddie Lacy? Are Jonathan Stewart and Lamar Miller set for a fantasy revival? Does the emergence of Landry Jones mean better days ahead for Antonio Brown? John Paulsen and Anthony Stalter discuss these topics and more from Week 6 in their latest fantasy football podcast.
The Hall of Fame Game went down Sunday night in Canton, Ohio. Our Minnesota Fightin' Vikings came out on top of the Pittsburgh Steelers 14-3 in a game that quenched the collective thirst of a the football world, even though it featured no Adrian Peterson or Ben Roethlisberger and something-calle Landry Jones played the whole darn game. There's a lot of positives and some false-negatives to pick through for our team in purple, and we do so in our first game recap show of the 2015 season.Other "The Hall of Jerome Bettis" Talking Points Include• Vikings defeat the Steelers 14-3• Mick Tingelhoff love from Purple FTW! Has some easy preseason spots to gain confidence• Jabari Price is a G• Adam Thielen could be legit• I liked how TJ Clemmings looked• Shamar Stephen & Tom Johnson are 1s going against 2s and 3s• Joe Banyard - What could have been• Taylor Heinicke looks smoother and more in command than Mike Kafka• Bookmark our Amazon Link to show some love! All that and other "Brian Peters over Mike Mauti" chatter on this edition of the Purple FTW!
