Let's be honest, although the holidays can be a very wonderful and special time of the year, there can also be several unwanted holiday guests being those of stress and anxiety. You may not invite them in, but they can inevitably show up, seemingly out of no where. Often they show up as a result of toxic or broken relationships, financial pressures, work deadlines, and so much more, and with this conflict, the holidays tend to increase our tension levels. However, one preventative factor one can implement this holiday season to manage and limit stress and anxiety would be finding balance and prioritizing the things that matter most in this life. Joining us today to discuss how we can learn how to effectively steward God's resources well this holiday season is CEO of the American Association of Christian Counselors and a man who has invested a lot of time training and equipping others to find balance and joy in their health, wealth, and relationships, Ben Allison. Ben earned his MBA and Juris Doctorate from Liberty University and then was officially named CEO of the AACC in March 2020. He is passionate and dedicated to AACC's mission of providing clinically excellent and distinctively Christian services & resources to all levels of caregivers and making the Church worldwide more caring. In and throughout today's conversation our prayer is that you would be reminded of the things that matter most in this life and that you would steward a life of significance rather than seeking a life of success.  Find out more about AACC here: www.aacc.net

Leadership is often associated with a leader taking charge at the frontline. Oftentimes we describe these types of leaders as strong, inspirational, or courageous, however, the biggest impacts don't always come from the individuals leading the charge. Although they sometimes go unrecognized, “Little L” leaders can be found scattered within the group where they work behind the scenes to empower their teammates and steer them towards success. That is why the concept of “leading from behind” is such a crucial component of ensuring effective team dynamics. If you apply this philosophy to the healthcare landscape, it becomes apparent that the nature of our profession allows pharmacists to act as a prime example of how this leadership style can be effectively utilized.  The information presented during the podcast reflects solely the opinions of the presenter. In this episode, I have to open with a bit of a rant against the Big Tech “fact-checkers” who are constantly wrong or have to resort to spin to try to stop facts and information from reaching the people. Last week I shared the Swedish study showing Pfizer's mRNA vaccine becomes DNA in human liver cells. Note, the word “becomes” because in my view, words have meaning. The word “becomes” is not synonymous with “modifies” or “interacts with.” However, people like me and others are being flagged for sharing “misinformation” by discussing the study. What did the fact-checkers say? They said the study is false because the mRNA vaccine does not change human DNA. Where did I or anyone say it “changed” your DNA? The study specifically says, it becomes DNA in human liver cells. Whether or not that DNA strand does anything or has an effect long-term is not yet known. It might cause issues, which is, as even I said, speculation, but that's not what the study said nor what most have reported. They simply point to an alarming bit of scientific research that, through the process of transcription, the mRNA re-writes itself to become a DNA spike. That is factually correct and true. But the Big Tech fact-checkers twist the findings in the article in a way to then find it false. They have to insert a narrative that the study never once inferred. This is a huge problem in the ongoing debate over information and who gets to decide what is real and what isn't. In my estimation, when you have to lie about what's in a study to find it false, that's where the real problem lies. I move onto something we can certainly all agree on and that's the pain we feel at the pump. Gasoline prices began rising the day after Joe Biden was elected and have climbed ever since. Sure, the Russian war with Ukraine has exacerbated the problem, but it was there already and wasn't showing any sign of slowing. Russia's invasion has only served to speed it along the way. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stooped to her usual condescending propaganda over the weekend with a chain of tweets where she detailed nine talking points only to close with we need to stop with the talking points on energy. Going through each of the points presents a huge logic problem to solve. If we are to believe we are currently producing record levels of fossil fuels, so much so we are the leading exporter of fossil fuels, how can Russia or any other bad actor create this much disruption in the market? Why are we still buying oil from Russia? Why would be opening talks with Iran and now Venezuela? It makes no sense, but that's because the White House is filled with people who believe in their own heads whatever they think is reality. Belief, as I have often said, is not the same thing as truth. So long as we continue to embrace the Obama-era policies of leading from behind, this is what we will continue to see in the market, the economy, the energy sector, foreign policy and more. Leading from behind is how we continue to lose. Until that way of thinking is reversed, it's only going to get worse. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and GETTR by searching for the Alan Sanders Show.

Summary: While it may seem counter-intuitive at first, there is wisdom in the concept of leading from behind. This episode of Building Better Cultures deconstructs team dynamics and the long-term impact of providing individuals the space to contribute. Host Scott McInnes invites Peter Docker, the popular motivational speaker and author of multiple books, to share his unique take on human collaboration and the tools he's developed to put theory into practice. Learn about the three pillars that Peter details in his new book, "Leading from the Jumpseat: How to Create Extraordinary Opportunities by Handing Over Control." Together they provide the mutually reinforced scaffolding for fostering healthy cultures – wherever people are working together and accountable to one another. Those three key ingredients include: Commitment Humble Confidence Belonging From his years as a pilot and respected mentor in the Royal Air Force – as well as his transition into the private sector and beyond – Peter has derived an approach that empowers individuals and opens the way for the kind of leadership that inspires loyalty, drive and authentic pride of purpose. The conversation wraps up with reflections on legacy. What do we wish to be remembered for – and why? For Peter, it's a question to be examined carefully. What may appear on the surface like the thing you wish to be remembered for could actually be far less important than what you have achieved just below the surface; sometimes the most penetrating impacts ripple out slowly over time. Key Takeaways: A bit about Peter's eclectic professional journey, from his career as a pilot with the Royal Air Force to his more recent success as an author and speaker. What “Leading from the Jumpseat” means and why this book is important not only for leaders of the largest companies but also within a single family unit. Peter shares the origin story that sparked the idea for “Leading from the Jumpseat.” Leadership as Human Connection: Leaders are tasked with nurturing a sense of belonging because it fosters responsibility. People will tend to step up by choice more easily than they are willing to be held accountable. The secret ingredient: Caring. There is nothing “soft” about caring. Leaders who support and cultivate are nurturing a level of commitment not unlike that which military leaders elicit from their troops. Making the right moves: How leaders can promote a workplace culture that holds space for employees to contribute and shine. It starts at the top of the organization with clarity about priorities and goals. Once those guard rails are in place, the stage is set for what Peter calls “humble confidence.” It's not about ego but clarity and purpose. What constitutes “humble confidence”: We are able to listen and welcome input from others. We see the world as a place of purpose and opportunity, rather than scarcity and fear. We're thinking of others around us, rather than just ourselves. We're resolute in where we're going, even when we aren't sure of how we'll get there. On Commitment: The difference between a position and a stand: Peter explains the way in which a stand is clear and clearly moving forward. Once a stand is established, the commitment follows and a plan of action can be put in place. Peter offers some concrete exercises for leaders who want to build a better culture: Commitment: Rather than a position against, figure out the stand “for” that sits underneath it. Humble Confidence: Take a situation at home or at work for which you know a solution. Rather than going straight to problem-solving mode, enjoin those around you to suggest what they might do. The willingness to create that opportunity requires humble confidence. Belonging: Send a text to someone you've been out of touch with for a while or reach out to someone on your team with a call out of the blue just to find out how things are going and what you can do to be of support. This is the human connection that underpins everything else. Peter explains why the concept of legacy is so important in his view. It's about being the pebble in the pond, and not knowing where those ripples will go. Holding space for those unknown effects is critical because we don't know what amazing things may derive downstream. Lead To Succeed
Empowering your team with a results only work environment (ROWE) and leading from behind with Danny Matthews - Creative Director at Danny&co.

This week our guest is Danny Matthews, the Founder & Creative Director of Danny&co. Danny has had significant experience in two different industries, the financial sector and creative graphic design and shares insights on leadership and entrepreneurship. Danny kicks things off by sharing a  leadership analogy he remembers from a picture he once saw, a pack of wolves climbing a mountain, but being led from the back by the lead wolf, not the front. For Danny this summarises his perspective on leadership - it's all about empowering and motivating your team from the back, encouraging them to be their best selves so they want to get better, rather than being the leader at the front who is 'pulling' their team forwards. Danny's take on effective leadership is centred around the beliefs that a leader has, not necessarily the traits they exhibit. For example, Danny is currently growing his team from 3 outsourced members of staff to 8 fully-fledged employees, which in itself is a great achievement, but his focus is on a results only work environment (ROWE) style of working, which is about results output rather than hours worked. This gives employees a sense of freedom and builds trust in the team, going back to a core belief of how leadership should be, rather than a specific trait.  Danny goes on to share his views on the challenges he has faced in growing an SME business. This is about the trade-off he experienced between focusing on creativity and focusing on lead generation and growing the business. Coming to the realisation he had to step away from the creative side of things for a period of time in order to focus on growing his business for it to have the impact that he desires. Lastly, Danny shares his advice for aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs about purpose. Understanding what is your purpose for creating a business and having a clear answer to this will enable you to put in the long hours and go above and beyond to deliver your goals of setting up and growing your business.  You can follow Danny on LinkedIn. A big thank you to Danny for being on our podcast with us!   The Lead to Succeed podcast is presented by Callum and Rebecca Jenkins. It is sponsored by RJEN a business that unlocks the growth potential in companies by finding, gaining and growing the best fit clients.

Tao Te Ching Verse 66translated by Dwight GoddardThe reason rivers and seas are called the kings of the valley is because they keep below them. Therefore the wise ones desiring to be above their people must in their demeanors keep below them; wishing to benefit their people, they must ever keep themselves out of sight. The wise dwell above, yet the people do not feel the burden; they are the leaders and the people suffer no harm. Therefore the world rejoices to exalt them and never wearies of them.Because they will not quarrel with anyone, no one can quarrel with them.Photo by Janusz Maniak on UnsplashServing and Leading OurselvesIn meditation, I have tried to force myself to be present. This works poorly for me, especially when I’m agitated. Sometimes, I’m all focus focus focus, and I end up trying too hard and then I’m focusing on focusing, and then a thought creeps in, and then I’m all noooo that’s not how you do it, then I try to focus harder. At the end of the session, I just give up and tell myself I’ll try again.Sometimes, I’ll tell myself that no, I’m not going to eat this. Or entertain thoughts of grandiosity. Or argue with others. I say no Dan, we’re better than that. Stop it. And while I may be able to control my physical behavior, I end up agitating myself and holding things in because even though I haven’t done the thing I didn’t want to do, I’m still wanting to do it. Probably more so, since I told myself no. So what’s the deal here? I thought that following Tao I would be able to control this stuff. At this point, I can ask myself - which ruler am I being right now? Am I the despot, the dictator who is ruling with fear and punishment? Or am I being the Sage that leads from behind? Well, let’s have a look: I tell myself no, and I mean it, we’re not going to do this, think this, feel this. And then I say for good measure, if we do, think, or feel this, you won’t be worthy, you’ll be weak and a failure. And then if I avoid doing it, I feel all proud, like yeah, I made that happen. Or if I don’t avoid doing it, I punish me with the same feelings with which I threatened myself. Does this sound familiar? I think this is a natural thing for us to go through...until we can become aware of and begin practicing the way of the Sage.As the Sage, I am the gentle, weak force of gravity that gives myself a choice - and I side-step that exhausting battle completely. I lead from behind, gently guiding me, giving me the choice. Most of the time, I end up not doing the thing, being ok with the feelings, or suffering no consequence of idle thoughts I’ve given no power. When I’m aware, of course. There are also times when I just can’t be willing. But if it’s really really important for me to not do stuff, I have yet another tool I can use! Yes, I can ask the Tao to help me be willing. It’s OK to be vulnerable, remember? It’s ok to ask the universe for help. Actually, I’ve found this to be a great thing to practice. If I’m open and patient, I gradually do become willing. All I need is a little trust, a little patience, and then a little gratitude. And of course compassion with me in case I don’t get it right the first, second, or 50th time. The Tao provides. Like every time. All I need to do is to keep walking on the Path.
