The 1% in Recovery Successful Gamblers & Alcoholics Stopping Addiction
Text and Be HeardWhat role does a mother's love truly play in the path to recovery? Join me as I share an intimate glimpse into my personal journey, shaped by the unwavering support of my late mother, Consuelo Guzman Vrsalovic. As the son of Bolivian immigrants, I navigate the complexities of addiction and recovery, with my mother's lessons on prayer, nutrition, exercise, and the arts serving as my guiding light. Her steadfast love proved to be a powerful force, laying the foundation for my transformation and resilience against gambling and alcohol addiction. Our conversation extends beyond personal anecdotes as we explore the broader impact of family dynamics on addiction recovery. With a focus on emotional security, I discuss how the absence of emotional expression within my family contributed to my struggles and how I learned to transcend these challenges. The enduring influence of my mother's values not only guided me toward a healthier life but also instilled in me the importance of cherishing family bonds. This episode serves as a heartfelt tribute to the enduring significance of parental love and guidance, urging listeners to reflect on the value of family, love, and purpose in their own lives.I Love You and I Will Miss You Mom.Enjoy Heaven!!Support the showRecovery is Beautiful. Gone with the World Wars: God's Love Heals All Wounds by Hildegard Bonacker BruniIn the wake of World War II, one-third of East Germany, including East Prussia, was given to Poland and Russia with the consent of the four allies governing occupied Germany-America, England, France, and Russia. In the process, 14 million Germans who called that area home were driven from their land, receiving horrible treatment and never allowed to return. This is the story of one family's journey to safety and the miracles of God that lined their path to deliverance. In Gone with the World Wars, Hildegard Bonacker Bruni shares the inspiring true account of her family's incredible passage during and after World War II and the amazing faithfulness of God that protected them every step of the way. Hildegard shares the testimony of her parents, Gustav and Emilie Bonacker, who were born in East Prussia and lived through WWI and WWII. In July 1944, Gustav was drafted into the army, and in August of the same year, Emilie, along with seven of her children, had to escape on horse and buggy for eight months until she reached the refuge of Sophienhof, in Schleswig Holstein. By the grace of God, Hildegard's family survived, overcoming the life-threatening trials of hunger, sickness, freezing temperatures, and constant bomb attacks. Gone with the World Wars documents this brave family's experiences, which are representative of many German families during the time, revealing what they lived through both during and after the war. With her family's story as a reflection of what truly happened during World War II, Hildegard dedicated her life to uncovering the truth of both world wars, the historical background of each, and how the various types of government affected the lives of the German people, her family included. Join Hildegard on this unforgettable adventure through history to discover some of the most shocking unknown historical facts of World War II, God's incomparable goodness, and the European way of life that is gone with the world wars.https://www.amazon.com/Gone-World-Wars-Heals-Wounds/dp/1662847106http://www.ecpublishingllc.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/5224hbec.mp3

Chapter 29: The Life Manual for Healing in your 20s Whether it's dealing with chronic UTI's or a parent with cancer, so many of us experience chronic illness at some point in our 20s. It could be your own medical journey or having to help a loved one through theirs–regardless, it's not easy to navigate. But what if I told you that shifting your mindset and practicing self-love can actually aid your physical wellness? Today, we are speaking with Dana Croschere and Krisanna Sexton, the masterminds behind the film “Love Heals.” After supporting one another through chronic illness within their relationship, they are now on a mission to spread love, health, and healing. Dana and Krisanna took 18 people to a retreat center in Sedona, AZ to work on healing in nontraditional ways, and they have used the film to share with the world their stories and the power of using the mind-body connection to heal yourself. THIS EPISODE'S SYLLABUS STEPS: Here are some of Dana and Krisanna's tips on healing yourself through self-love: - Check in with yourself. Ask yourself, what do I need? - Find time to be quiet with yourself and engage in some kind of meditation daily. - Start to trust your intuition. - Obtain “heart-brain coherence” by connecting your brain and your heart. Practice breathing while putting your hand on your heart and bringing up whatever emotions you're feeling. Take breaths envisioning positive emotions moving in and out of your heart space to calm your nervous system. - Take intentional time away from your phone and connect with nature. - Know that you are your own best healer and everything else is just mirroring back what you already know deep down. To see their film “Love Heals,” visit their website here. Subscribers to Gaia can also view the film on the app. They are currently working on their next film, “Rescued Hearts,” and you can stay tuned for updates here. Welcome everyone to Everything Horses & More! Podcast! Special welcome to our guest speakers, Dana Croschere & Krisanna Sexton, of Rescued Hearts Films. Today we are going to talk about The Miracles, The Mystery, and The Science of Healing with Horses. Dana Croschere is an award-winning film producer and has spent the last 15 years volunteering at various ranches, immersing herself in the transformative world of equine-assisted therapies and witnessing the healing power, presence, and sacred connection between horses and humans. Krisanna Sexton, an award-winning Director with Live Wild Films, is driven by a mission to spread hope and healing. While her experience with horses may not be extensive, Krisanna's belief in exploring alternative modalities for healing inspires her work as a director. Her most recent film success, "Love Heals," has received acclaim across international boundaries. Scheduled for a national broadcast on PBS in January 2024, this documentary stands as a testament to Krisanna's ability to touch hearts and minds through her heartfelt storytelling. Her work on "Rescued Hearts" promises to be a continuation of her mission to inspire and heal through the medium of film. The Inspiration Behind Rescued Hearts I once witnessed a miracle when a 7-year-old boy with autism spoke his very first words while interacting with a horse, and it forever changed my life. After hearing countless stories of people who have experienced miraculous transformations in the presence of horses, I began to wonder, "Why are horses so healing to humans and what are they here to teach us?" My partner, Krisanna, and I are award-winning filmmakers, and together we are embarking on a journey to better understand the horse-human connection. Our film will share powerful stories from those who have experienced incredible transformations and those who have dedicated their lives to equine-assisted work. We'll highlight researchers who can speak to why this connection is so powerful and share tools to help us access our healing power within. Rescued Hearts isn't just the story of horses; it's the story of all of us and the power that lies within to create healing and transformation in our lives. - Dana Croschere, Producer Discover more about my guests on their website https://www.livewildfilms.com/ and their new documentary www.rescuedheartsfilm.com, Instagram https://www.instagram.com/rescuedheartsfilm/, https://www.instagram.com/livewildfilms/?hl=en and Facebook www.facebook.com/people/Rescued-Hearts-Film/100086887737887/.

Each of us have faced loss, pain, and sometimes deep hurts. Those hurts can scar us for life. Agape/Love can heal the pain of those scars but the scars may remain as a reminder. They remind us of our humanity. They remind us we all have been hurt and have hurt others. They remind us that the scar does not define ‘who' we are, instead they remind us of the path we have already walked. Maybe we can learn how to let Agape/Love heal the pain from those scars if we have not yielded to Agape/Love yet. There is Hope. Hope for healing. In the latest episode of the Simply Fit Podcast I have the pleasure of speaking with Paul Zolman. Paul is the international bestselling author of the Role of Love and creator of the Role of love dice. You've probably heard of the love languages before, but I'm pretty sure you've never applied them in the way that Paul and I talk about today. Paul has created an approach that has helped him and many others transform the way they give and receive love and most importantly, has found a way to make this happen on a regular basis. If you've heard of the love languages before, you're going to love this episode, if you've not, you're also in for a treat. Welcome to Game Changers with Jeff Newkirk, where we speak with people who have done something to make this world a better place. It's simple: inspire, educate, and let's change this world! On today's episode, Jeff welcomes guest Rebecca Smith Nash to discuss a troubling and sensitive subject: foster care. In the U.S. alone, there are 700,000 children in foster care. 80% of the children in foster care in Texas have some mental health need. Similarly, 80% of prison inmates grew up in foster care. Rebecca has a wealth of experience as a counselor who also runs two organizations. She earned her Bachelor's degree at Southwest Texas University and her Master's at Sam Houston State University. While working on her PhD, she began her private practice and was working at Houston's Harris County Jail, the third largest county jail in America. She began working with kids in foster care as the foundation of her practice and fell into the unique niche of families involved in custody modification. Rebecca explains that custody modification occurs when children refuse to go to a specific parent's home. In her work, Rebecca has found that sorting out the parent's issues often solves the children's problems immediately. This goes to show that children are the products of their environment. Don't miss Rebecca's anecdote demonstrating the importance of parental emotional behavior on their children. Then, Rebecca shares what drew her to her work in the foster care system. Since launching in 2021, her organization, Love Heals Youth, has exploded with support. Although COVID prevented the non-profit from talking off sooner, she shares the bright side of that frustrating time. It inspired Rebecca to digitize all her client files, which means she can serve her clients from anywhere and ensure that no one is left behind. Because many of her clients are young children in the foster care system who move around frequently, this newly digitized service allows for continuity in services no matter where they live. Their services are also 100% free. 60% of Love Heals Youth's clientele are foster youth, and 40% are homeless. Although this topic can be weighty and sad, Rebecca does not miss the opportunity to share some of her most significant success stories. She sheds light on how helpful prayer has been for her personally and professionally to sort through emotions and encourage an internal dialogue. Before wrapping up, she shares some exciting upcoming events for Love Heals Youth. Finally, she reads her moving poem Love Heals Youth. Learn more about Love Heals Youth and get involved! In this Mindful Monday, Emilía reads a powerful story from Frank Ostaseski's Five Invitations demonstrating the healing power of love."In the horror of my own suffering, I always had held out the hope that one day someone would rescue me. I had imagined that I would be saved by love coming toward me. Just the opposite. I was rescued when love came through me." - Frank Ostaseski
Dorris Walker-Taylor is a survivor of sexual exploitation and addiction, as well as a graduate and now employee of the program that helped save her, Thistle Farms. Dorris landed at Thistle Farms after twenty-six years of addiction. She attributes the women at Thistle Farms for loving her back to life. Dorris grew up with her parents in a lovely neighborhood where everyone knew each other. When she was twelve her world shattered—a troubled family member severely injured her mother and killed her father. Dorris tried to numb her feelings through marijuana. Once marijuana didn't have the same effect, she started using cocaine. Dorris was addicted to cocaine, lived on the streets of Nashville and was in and out of jail by the time she was an adult. Dorris talks of her mom's home as a praying home. When Dorris returned home at her mother's request to sing in a choir reunion. Dorris obliged and sang, "You're Looking at a Miracle" by Lemmie Battles. Dorris had no idea that her mother's prayers, coupled with this request for her to sing, would change her life just as the song said: miraculously. The tagline of Thistle Farms is “Love Heals” and they believe love is the most powerful force for change in the world. Thistle Farms was founded in 1997 by Becca Stevens and helps rescue women from human trafficking, sexual exploitation, addiction and abuse.

Wednesday March 22, 2023 Reading through the NT in 2023 Mark 10
It's the day after Valentine's Day and the collective sigh of relief can be clearly felt, at least in my circles. So many posts about dreading the day and feeling sad for not having "their person". In this episode I talk about how there is so much love available for us from so many different places; friends, family, co-workers, new friends through groups like The Separation Club and more. It's truly limiting to go through life thinking that the only way we can really feel loved is with a romantic/love partner. Feeling loved is possible in so many ways and with so many different relationships. Next week I head down to Costa rica with over a dozen women most of whom I have never met in person before. We have chatted online, I have supported them through a really difficult time and they have become friends with each other and now they have decided to take this physical journey together. I can't wait to hug them all! But the biggest thing they are learning is that love, friendship and companionship is available in so many places and that just because they don't have a significant other in their lives doesn't mean they are alone or even lonely. Life is what you make of it and love is who you share it with. I am so grateful you are here and love connecting with all of you in this way. KEY TAKE AWAYS: Think of all the different relationship "buckets" you would like in your life (fun friends, adventure friends, mentors, wine buddies etc) and then start placing the people you already know into those buckets. Which ones feel a bit empty? How can you meet someone to help make that part of your life bigger, and with more people and love in it? Your romantic partner doesn't have to be everything in every way. You don't have to be one and only do things with each other. You can have a beautiful relationship and still maintain great friendships and feel comfortable with your partner having their own friendships outside of the couple. Allowing yourself to be love by others allows you to share your love more abundantly. Only good comes from that. Seek relationships of all kinds, not just one. It's not realistic and if you lose that person you end up feeling you have lost everything and everyone. I would love to hear from you and how you fill your friend buckets. One place you can start doing that and getting coaching, mentorship, support and friendship is inside the Rising Free membership. In this episode, we continue with part two of our series on the identity of Bride: Full and Total Love. We discuss the perfect model we have in Christ of love without reservation and the distinction between co-existing with those we love and living in complete union. We pray this week you would allow your heart to be transformed to love those around you fully and totally. Sister Miriam's one thing - Some People Do - Old Dominion Heather's one thing - Love Heals ring - Pink Salt Riot Michelle's one thing - Mary Discussion Questions: What stood out to you from this week's episode? What does it look like to love without reservation? With your spouse, closest friends or a small group - Do you know enough of one another's stories to love one another fully? How do we learn to love another when they have parts that aren't beautiful in that moment? How can we learn to be like Christ then? Journal Questions: Where is yout heart holding back, guarding itself, or not loving fully, and why? Is there a fear of rejection, a fear of misunderstanding, or a fear of vulnerability? Are you co-existing alongside your spouse, your family, or your community? Take a moment to pray for the grace of a deeper union. What would it look like to give more of your heart to these relationships? How have you seen your love grow in maturity over time? Quotes to Ponder: “My dear young friends, I want to invite you to ‘dare to love.' Do not desire anything less for your life than a love that is strong and beautiful and that is capable of making the whole of your existence a joyful undertaking of giving yourselves as a gift to God and your brothers and sisters, in imitation of the One who vanquished hatred and death for ever through love (cf. Rev 5:13). Love is the only force capable of changing the heart of the human person and of all humanity, by making fruitful the relations between men and women, between rich and poor, between cultures and civilizations.” (Message for the 22nd World Youth Day: Palm Sunday, 1 April 2007) ― Pope Benedict XVI Scripture for Lectio Divina: “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man[a] there was not found a helper as his partner. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.” Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed. - Genesis 2:18-25
