Remember Led Zeppelin's song, ‘Stairway to Heaven'? Jacob dreamt of angels climbing to heaven, then declared the spot where he slept holy. Pastor Jody explores the idea of thin places, where you feel like heaven comes close to Earth.

At his daughter's annual father-daughter dance, Aaron enters an air guitar competition he has never managed to win. This year, however, the stakes feel different. As Stairway to Heaven builds toward its legendary solo, his daughter gives him one simple instruction: “Dad, win.” What begins as a ridiculous contest between awkward dads becomes a funny and unexpectedly moving story about fatherhood, growing up, and the fear every parent carries of one day becoming uncool. Armed with dark sunglasses, years of imaginary guitar training, and a daughter playing air drums beside him, Aaron finally gets his chance to melt faces and prove that, for at least one more night, Dad is still a rock star.

Today we continued our study through Genesis 28. In this passage, Jacob walks in obedience to Isaac while Esau continues in disobedience. As Jacob journeys on, the Lord meets him in a dream and reaffirms His covenant promises — that Jacob would be blessed, his offspring multiplied, and that God Himself would be with him wherever he went until every promise had been fulfilled. One of the central questions this text presses upon us is this: Are we living for the City of God or for the city of man? Listen as Pastor Matt walks through Genesis 28 and shows us the faithfulness. He is the one that overcomes our imperfect faith through His plan and His cross.

In Genesis 28 Jacob flees the results of his sin, and receives an unexpected, undeserved gift of grace: a vision of a stairway (ladder) to heaven. The symbolism, meaning and theological significance of the ladder will be the main focus of this post.

The boys tiptoe around rock's holiest relic, climb the most overplayed staircase in rock history, and use the scientific method to conduct an autopsy on the corpse of Led Zeppelin's 1971 untouchable epic, “Stairway to Heaven.” News items and digressions include Jane's Addiction forgoing the fans and finally reaching a settlement after their onstage fisticuffs.
