Actually, you know, that's not really the case.”“The dog training world—it's a white dominated space. It's kind of male dominated, too,” says Taylor Barconey of Smart Bitch Dog Training in New Orleans. “On our profile on Instagram we have Black Lives Matter, it's been there for a year now. Before 2020, we would have not felt comfortable putting that up at risk of losing our business because people would have blacklisted us. But now, we feel like we can finally breathe and be open about things that really matter to us—speaking out against racism and not feeling shy about it.”Brian Taylor, owner of Harlem's Doggy Day Care lost both his uncle and long time mentor to Covid. During the pandemic his business slumped by 80%. So with some help from his pet parents and supporters he decided to hit the road with “The Pup Relief Tour offering grooming services to anyone going through rough times and in need. “All together we had about 63 African American dog groomers that went on tour with us across the country and we groomed over 829 dogs.”Dr. Kwane Stewart, is an African American veterinarian who walks skid row in downtown LA tending the unhoused dogs of unhoused people. Couples kissing on the mouth are gross. And the worst is, you can't miss them: when people are about to kiss, their lips become all pink and shiny. Little Léo laughs at them, just like all the kids at the summer camp. But he has a secret he won't tell his friends: his own mouth has actually begun glistening. And that leadership is usually "Little L" leadership. It's not broadcast, it's not announced, and it doesn't have a marquee like a movie theater; it's something that is happening very subtly, and it takes a trained eye to notice it. And one of the things I'd like to leave my students with is that trained eye."Resources Mentioned in This EpisodeInfographic: Technical Problems vs. Adaptive ChallengesArticle: The Principles of little 'L' leadership by SvarenBooks: The Wager, Killers of the Flower Moon by David GrannBook: The Secret Hours by Mick HerronAbout The International Leadership Association (ILA)The ILA was created in 1999 to bring together professionals interested in studying, practicing, and teaching leadership. Leadership is often associated with a leader taking charge at the frontline. Oftentimes we describe these types of leaders as strong, inspirational, or courageous, however, the biggest impacts don't always come from the individuals leading the charge. Although they sometimes go unrecognized, “Little L” leaders can be found scattered within the group where they work behind the scenes to empower their teammates and steer them towards success. That is why the concept of “leading from behind” is such a crucial component of ensuring effective team dynamics. If you apply this philosophy to the healthcare landscape, it becomes apparent that the nature of our profession allows pharmacists to act as a prime example of how this leadership style can be effectively utilized. Today on the show, Bobby Greenberg talks about emotional loyalty and how marketers can measure it to create a more engaging customer experience. He also discusses that by understanding the key drivers of loyalty, brands can focus their marketing on the most valuable customers. This is important because, during recessions, it is important to focus on creating long-term relationships with customers rather than just getting them to spend as quickly as possible. Listen in! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/radioflowok/message

I’ve been adamant about supporting libertarian candidates. Libertarian leaning Candidates that get support will lead to others having the courage to run on libertarian principles also. One day they may even have the courage to run as a Libertarian candidate. Let’s support them publicly, because it’s good for the movement. This is your libertarian look at the 2020 presidential election. Welcome to The Consumer Goods Forum Global Summit special edition of the Voice of Retail I'm your host Michael LeBlanc and this podcast is brought to you in conjunction with Retail Council of Canada. An elite organization that brings consumer goods retailers and manufacturers together globally, the Consumer Good Forum's Global Summit is a CEO-led group that aligns the world's retailers and consumer goods manufacturers together, alongside other key stakeholders, to secure consumer trust and drive positive change, including greater efficiency. Check out this recent article: http://www.canadiangrocer.com/top-stories/galen-weston-to-the-food-industry-lets-get-serious-on-sustainability-88156 This year their Global Summit was held in Vancouver in June, and since I was in the neighbourhood (Victoria giving a keynote presentation on the state of global grocery eCommerce) I grabbed a Harbour Air float plane from Victoria for the fun and picturesque half hour flight over to Vancouver harbour. Highly recommend taking this trip if you have not had the opportunity btw. At the Global Summit I had the opportunity to mix and mingle with about 900 of the biggest thinkers and the brightest minds in retail, brand and strategy game, so of course took the opportunity to do some chitting-and-chatting for The Voice of Retail on and around the conference floor, in the media room and even on the EY thought-leader”ship” yacht parked behind the Vancouver Conference Centre. First up a conversation with Kristina Rogers, Global Consumer Industries Leader: Consumer Products, Retail, Agribusiness. Based out of Chicago but born and raised in Canada, Kristina is responsible for global business leadership across multiple consumer industries and we talked about global eco-systems, risk and the nature of innovation. Next, two global Canadian loyalty leaders who speak on an international stage: Caroline Papadatos, Global Loyalty Consulting Leader for Loyalty One, and Bryan Pearson, CEO of Loyalty One and a frequent (and frequently quoted) contributor to Forbes and thought leader in the loyalty space. In a wide ranging interview we talk about Big L loyalty and Little L loyalty, what has changed in the loyalty space in 25 years, the nature of modern retail loyalty & technology and the richness of the tools. You can reach Caroline at CPapadatos@loyalty.com and BPearson@loyalty.com Lastly, and interview with two retail strategists as we talk about their thoughts on the latest in retail brand marketing strategy and consumer insights. This interview was recorded on the EY yacht parked in Vancouver Harbour, so the background is pretty noisy with Harbour Air flights coming and going, but stay with us as the conversation is really worth it. But first, here is my conversation with Kristina Rogers from EY: That's a wrap on this special Consumer Goods Global Summit edition of The Voice of Retail, if you liked this podcast you can subscribe on iTunes or your favourite podcast platform, and be sure and recommend to a friend or colleague in the retail industry. You can also ask your favourite home devices, Amazon Echo, Google home to play the most recent edition. I'm Michael LeBlanc, Founder and President of M.E. LeBlanc and Company Inc. and you can learn more about me on www.meleblanc.co or of course on LinkedIn Until next time, have a great week
