Ian recalls a treasured moment with his former coach, and reflects on how much things have changed.Ian Roberts started his career as a professional rugby league player in the mid 1980's, playing for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and the North Queensland Cowboys. He went on to play for NSW in 5 State of Origin series and over a dozen test matches for Australia. In 1994 at the high of his playing career Ian came out publicly and told the world he was a gay man, the first openly gay man in rugby league. Ian retired in 1998 due to injury, then in 2001 he studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. He has over 40 credited acting roles to his name. Kerry discovers a fictional version of himself.Kerry Bashford started his queer career as a baby activist, organising rallies at the age of 18 in 1982, before escaping south to the big smoke. After several years of apprenticeship in gay, street and independent presses and countless queer arts endeavours, he scored a job at NineMSN where he worked as Producer of Online Portal and Entertainment and ended up as movie critic for the network. Dylan reflects on the steps he took to make it as a professional artist.Dylan Mooney is a proud Yuwi, Torres Strait and South Sea Islander man from Mackay in North Queensland working across painting, printmaking, digital illustration and drawing. Ivy explains how Townsville turned her into the joke making abomination she is today.Inspired by both her father and Shaun Micallef, Ivy Hawke completed a law degree then went straight to Brisbane to become a comedian. Her comedic style is a mix of chaotic ramblings, punch lines about lessons she learnt growing up queer in Townsville and disaster tales formed from not paying attention to her surroundings. World Pride celebrations are going to be happening all around Sydney from 18th February to 5th March. It takes Fran nearly a lifetime to work out why the slurs thrown at her in the schoolyard never quite sound right.Fran Mulcahy is an Ipswich based performer who is aging disgracefully, a spoken word performer, feminist writer and poet. Her first stage work was at age 10 when she performed the angel Gabrielle in the school pageant. Before retiring she had a career as a doctor, and she is currently involved in educating health professionals and medical students about the gender diverse community.
