Send us a textThis is the famous Vice Presidential Debate. It would feature a fiery set of exchanges between Vice President Dan Quayle and Senator Al Gore. The two men served in the Senate together and knew each other quite well. The gloves will come off and as that happens the third man on the stage , retired Admiral James Stockdale, was often reduced to being a bystander. It was a shining moment for Dan Quayle, who in my opinion, won this debate against Al Gore. It was the strongest moment for Quayle in either campaign. Al Gore does well too and if you follow the adage "do no harm," Gore was successful. It is also a campaign debate that shows why a novice can be truly handicapped by their lack of experience in politics. Admiral James Stockdale was a brilliant man, a former educator, and President of a University, a war Hero, a POW, and a formidable man. But you would never have known it based on the performance you will hear in this debate.  Questions or comments at , Randalrgw1@aol.com , https://twitter.com/randal_wallace , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

Send us a textIn this episode we take you through the events of three of the days of the Republican National Convention as George Bush prepares to take the stage and address the nation. He is greeted by hecklers at a Houston event who snuck in as reporters from an AIDS activist group. But the President and the crowd handle it fairly well. Despite all the issues that seemed to have beset the campaign and the convention, the message and the record George Bush had to run on was finally taking hold and the giant lead Bill Clinton had was starting to shrink. This is also the end of an era of long speeches by former Presidents at least on the Republican side of the aisle. In this episode, we hear the last prime time address given by former President Gerald Ford as he compares the scenario the party faces in 1992 to the last successful Democrat to argue it was time for change, Jimmy Carter, during the election he lost by a whisker in 1976. Plus, this election actually produced a very unlikely star, the much maligned Vice President of the United States, Dan Quayle. It is often forgotten that starting with this convention speech, Dan Quayle actually did an outstanding job campaigning for re-election through out all of the 1992 campaign. In fact, I have often wondered how it would have gone had he been head to head with Bill Clinton given how well he did do in 1992. That story has often been obscured by the election loss of the Bush/Quayle ticket later in the year. You will get to hear both the Quayle video and his convention speech in this episode.  Questions or comments at , Randalrgw1@aol.com , https://twitter.com/randal_wallace , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

In the first half, author and researcher Steve Quayle delved into the intersection of ancient symbols, AI, biblical prophecy, orbs, and spiritual entities, with a focus on the concept of fallen angels. He discussed the implications of what he describes as "alien infestation in computers," suggesting that these entities, which he refers to as fallen angels and demons, are attempting to deceive humanity via technology like AI. "The gates of hell are opening," he declared, indicating that spiritual entities are manifesting in our dimension, a phenomenon he believes many are unprepared to face.Addressing the historical context, Quayle noted that fallen angels are referenced in ancient scriptures, asserting that they ruled on Earth for thousands of years before the creation of Adam and Eve. He highlighted the importance of understanding ancient texts, glyphs, and symbols, suggesting that they hold keys to current events, especially as we see the prophesied Four Horses of the Apocalypse "starting to gallop" with death, war, plague, and famine.Quayle contends we are living in "end times," citing various global crises as evidence. He stated, "We're watching the potential for billions of people to die," attributing this to the rise of bioweapons and the manipulation of viruses, particularly referencing the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, he contends that the appearance of "orbs," which differ from drones, may be linked to interdimensional phenomena.----------------In the latter half, spiritual teacher, Tarot reader, and professional witch Sabrina Scott discussed the multifaceted nature of witchcraft, and how Tarot can help people heal and improve their lives. She emphasized that her practice is not about entertainment, stating, "It's much more about actually creating energetic shifts... helping people become happier and healthier." Clarifying the distinction between different types of magic, she explained that while most magic is positive and uplifting, there are circumstances that may require protective measures. Scott added that magic is non-denominational and can be practiced by anyone, regardless of their religious beliefs.Encouraging listeners to take personal responsibility for their energy management, she advocated for practices like shielding to protect against negative vibes. This might take the form of an energetic force field around you that could be visualized like a big white bubble. The conversation shifted to the topic of curses, which are sometimes unleashed out of jealousy or pettiness. She noted that many believe they are cursed when, in fact, their issues stem from personal negativity. Scott also elaborated on the Tarot, describing it as a tool that blends her energy and the person she's reading for, with the synthesis yielding insights about various life aspects. "The cards can tell us what our best course of action is, and help us better understand our situation," she detailed. During the last hour, she gave short Tarot readings for callers.

[This blog will always be free to read, but it's also how I pay my bills. If you have suggestions or feedback on how I can earn your paid subscription, shoot me an email: cmclymer@gmail.com.]The state funeral for James Earl “Jimmy” Carter, Jr., the 39th President of the United States, was as well attended by dignitaries as one might expect — or hope.Among the hundreds in attendance at the Washington National Cathedral were Presidents Biden, Obama, Bush, and Clinton; Vice Presidents Harris, Pence, Gore, and Quayle; Secretaries of State Clinton and Kerry; first and second spouses; Chief Justice Roberts and Associate Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, Kavanaugh, Barrett, and Jackson; current and former heads of government from Canada, Colombia, Japan, Portugal, and the United Kingdom; Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh; Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations; and scores of senators and members of Congress and ambassadors and other luminaries.I may be missing a notable name or two. Perhaps at least two. That is possible.Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sang “Imagine" — one of the late president's favorite songs.Steve Ford, the son of President Gerald Ford, whom Pres. Carter defeated in the 1976 election, delivered a beautiful eulogy in which he said to the Carter family: “God did a good thing when he made your dad.”President Biden, in what is likely the final major public speech of his tenure, summed up President Carter in three words: “Character, character, character.”It all felt right and good. It felt fitting. It felt rare and maybe fleeting. It felt like we may not see this kind of easy agreement across the political spectrum for a long time. But with all due respect, it didn't come close to matching the quiet and hardy adoration that could be observed in the previous 36 hours on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol and surrounding streets. It is cold in D.C. this week, enough during the day to aggressively bundle up and enough at night to find any excuse to be indoors and immediately reject that one friend's insane invite to go out for a drink, much less an evening stroll. It is, for most of us, bitterly cold. It is so cold—at least to this Texas gal—that nothing less than the threat to life and limb to a loved one would be enough to convince me to venture into the elements. It is so cold that “outside” is wholly inadequate and only the word “elements” carries a sufficiently adequate connotation.Last night, at 9pm, the temperature was easily below 20 degrees with the wind chill. I understand some of you up north consider this balmy. You must understand that most of us think you're crazy. So, it was painfully cold and uninviting, and yet, even late into the night, there were thousands and thousands of people across all walks of life waiting in line outside for several hours just to enter the Capitol Rotunda for a few moments and walk around the flag-draped casket of one Jimmy Carter and pay their respects to a model human being. There were those who were off for the federal holiday and those who came after a long day of work—suits and dresses and military uniforms—young and old, Democrats and Republicans and independents, the working class and the wealthy, entire families, all of them standing outside in the freezing cold for several hours. That's not an exaggeration. The wait was several hours. At best, one could reasonably hope to get through the line and the quick orbit within the Rotunda in just over three hours. Some folks waited longer, some as many as five hours depending on when they got in line. When was the last time you waited five hours in line for anything? When was the last time you waited three hours in line? When was the last time you did this in the bone chilling cold? When was the last time you did this without any expectation of a tangible reward? They all knew there was no material incentive to be had here. It wasn't like everyone who made the journey got a cookie or gold star after leaving the Rotunda. There were no certificates of appreciation conferred upon completion. No dinner coupons. No drink tickets. No free t-shirts.Need to use the restroom? Walk a few blocks to a nearby restaurant or bar and hope someone is kind enough to hold your spot in line.It was so cold that even the usually familiar sight of phones capturing every angle of any given political event for social media was scarce. Gotta keep those hands warm.People heard the updates. It's gonna be three hours. Maybe four. Maybe five. They stayed in line.It wasn't as though Pres. Carter could do anything for these thousands upon thousands of people who came to say goodbye beyond what he did for them in life, deeds already completed and offered without any assumption of reciprocity. This man who hadn't been president in more than four decades, who had a 31 percent approval rating the month he lost reelection, who was unfairly maligned for many years over his job performance, who was unjustly a punchline to much of the country afterward for so long after leaving office — it was this man they came to honor. They stayed in line, freezing, probably hungry, probably needing to use the restroom at some point, many of them probably wishing they were at home with a hot beverage and blanket in hand. They stayed in line. This one-term president, who went back to his peanut farm after leaving office, who was detested by the bulk of D.C. political circles, who didn't cash out and join a bevy of corporate boards, who didn't feel it necessary to say what was popular or easy, who navigated his life thereafter as a private citizen with such grace and integrity that even his most ardent detractors had to tip their hats and acknowledge his decency.I realize there are so many reasons to feel pessimistic about the future of our country at the moment, but if such decency is so honored as we've seen by everyday Americans on the ground in our Nation's Capitol over these past few days, tell me that isn't cause for hope.Tell me that isn't a glimmer of what we could still be. Despite emerging warnings about wildfire dangers, Bass chose to travel to Ghana and stayed there, even after the situation escalated. Her lack of candor and shaky public appearances since returning have also been painful to watch.Next, they comment on Jimmy Carter's funeral - both what was said in the early parts of the service and the fascinating interactions - or lack of interactions - among current and former presidents and vice presidents and their spouses. The Biden-Harris, Trump-Pence, and Trump-Obama exchanges were of particular note. Finally, Jim and Greg react to President Biden's stunning claim in a USA Today interview, where he asserted that he would have defeated Donald Trump if he had stayed in the 2024 race. Episode Notes Thayer Ventures and Derive Ventures are teaming up to create Thayer Investment Partners, an investment platform the two VC firms believe will boost innovation in travel technology, writes Senior Hospitality Editor Sean O'Neill. The new platform aims to offer a full-service venture capital approach, with plans to invest in business-to-business and consumer startups. Thayer Investment Partners will consider startups in most destinations, with the exception of China, where it lacks expertise.   O'Neill notes the quasi-merger comes as the travel industry grapples with emerging opportunities in AI and the adoption of cloud-native technologies.  Next, major U.S. airlines are optimistic they'll see strong demand for Europe continue into next summer, but they're facing headwinds in China. Patrick Quayle, United Airlines' senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, discussed the carrier's operations in China with Airlines Reporter Meghna Maharishi. Quayle said restrictions on Western carriers flying over Russian airspace have created an unequal playing field for U.S. and European airlines. He noted that United can't fly from Washington, D.C. or from New York to China because it would have to fly over Russia.  Quayle added that while United has resumed service from Los Angeles to Shanghai, its scheduled flights to China are still below pre-pandemic levels.  Finally, Columnist Colin Nagy argues that luxury hotels have, for too long, tolerated rude behavior from guests that ruins others' experiences. He writes in his latest column that hotels need to crack down on guests' bad behavior. Nagy cites the example of being disturbed last year in Tokyo by guests loudly discussing a TV show and showing each other videos on their phones. He writes that everyone's self-awareness dropped during the pandemic, adding that public spaces have turned into private living rooms. Nagy calls on hotels to enforce standards that align with their ambiance, location and overall message. He notes that he was inspired by Hôtel du Cap, where its rules are prominently displayed on cards in guestrooms and dress codes are strictly enforced. Nagy says hotels and guests can work together to create standards for each property.  Connect with Skift LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/skift/ X: https://twitter.com/skift Facebook: https://facebook.com/skiftnews Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/skiftnews/ WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaAL375LikgIXmNPYQ0L/ Subscribe to @SkiftNews and never miss an update from the travel industry.

In this episode:Stephanie Quayle, acclaimed singer/songwriter and author of her forthcoming book, Why Do We Stay?, joins Heather to talk about healing from lies, toxic relationships, loss, and grief. When Stephanie lost her boyfriend in a plane crash, she faced intense grief and pain. Nothing compared, though, to the shock of discovering she had not been the only woman in his life. As her world unraveled around her, Stephanie realized that it had actually been unraveling from the start of their relationship—back when he promised her everything.Stephanie says that her faith and forgiveness of not only the one who inflicted the pain but also of herself, has been the key to freedom and healing in her journey. Her personal journey of faith in Jesus has been one that she has held close and private, but now she is opening up about all God has done in her life. Stephanie was baptized by Pastor Chris Hodges of Church of the Highlands in January – on the 15th anniversary of her pain, which has now become her freedom. Most of us have dealt with a toxic relationship – whether in friendship or romantically. Stephanie's journey from heartbreak to healing will encourage and inspire you that in Christ, you can be empowered to walk in freedom, lay aside guilt and shame, practice self-care and rebuild your life.In the marriage corner:No marriage corner this week since this interview with Stephanie was SO GOOD! Connect with Stephanie:Website: https://www.stephaniequayle.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephaniequayleInstagram: @StephanieQuayleLinks from this episode:Stephanie's New Book: https://urlgeni.us/amazon/mentalhealthbookslistConnect with Heather:7 Days FREE of the HBHB Membership: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/membership/Heather's ebooks: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/product-category/digital-products/Heather's Amazon favorites: https://urlgeni.us/amazon/HBstorefrontHeather's freebies: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/freebies/Heather's favorite liquid collagen: https://www.mylifewellloved.com/everyday-must-haves/Heather's email list: https://spring-pine-631.myflodesk.com/9347a138-077e-4c55-bf61-2137aeed89eaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/healthybyheatherbrown/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HealthyByHeatherBrownPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/healthybyheatherbrown/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@HealthyByHeatherBrown/videosLTK: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/HealthybyHeatherBrownTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healthybyheatherbrownHow you can show the podcast some love:FOLLOW - Click that purple '+' in the top right corner of your Apple Podcasts app.RATE - We'd love it even more if you could drop a r5-star rating over on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.REVIEW - Simply select “Ratings and Reviews” and “Write a Review” then a quick line with your favorite part of the episode. How old is too old to run the country? Donald Trump will turn 78 in June. The incumbent Joseph Biden will turn 82 shortly after the November election. Biden is already the oldest president in U.S. history, succeeding Trump who had been the oldest (70) at inauguration in 2017. Rarely have age and mental fitness been such prominent issues in a presidential campaign. But past candidates for the White House successfully dealt with questions about their health and wits. Dwight Eisenhower, then in his mid-60s, suffered a major heart attack the year before he won re-election in 1956. Ronald Reagan faced questions about his age as early as the mid-1970s. Getting old can be either an asset or liability depending on the candidate, as can youth. JFK, Clinton, and Obama all parried accusations they lacked the experience to handle the job. In this episode, presidential historian Lindsay Chervinsky tells us which politicians handled the age question the best -- and how they did it.

TADHack is the largest global hackathon focused on programmable communications since 2014. The event has helped tens of thousands of developers and innovators use programmable communications (UCaaS, CPaaS, CCaaS, AI, vCon, IVR, Telecom API, etc.) to solve real-world problems). TadHack will take place in the weekend before Enterprise Connect 2024, and the winners (there's a $3K prize) will be announced on Tuesday at a scheduled event at EC24, at the Gaylord in Orlando. The hackathon will take place at the nearby Valencia College West Campus, in person and online. In this special Cloud Communications Alliance and TR Podcast, Alan Quayle Founder TADHack, TADSummit and Thomas Howe, of Strolid, discuss why everyone should consider participating: “Innovation is not the sole domain of developers, everyone can innovate,” says Quayle. Thomas Howe, of Strolid, discusses their creation, vCon, being standardized by the IETF, a PDF for conversations. Strolid is a sponsor. They created. It's going to be important for all communications companies in our industry. What may be interesting for your audience is at TADHack we have 2 categories of entries: Showcases and Hacks. Explained here in the rules: https://tadhack.com/2024/hackathon-rules/. Hacks are what developers create. A Showcase could be an idea about how a UCaaS, CCaaS, Conferencing, or good old telco could use vCon. Strolid wants to see application ideas, and Showcases get free publicity at TADHack, and in the EC24 session. A showcase is simply a short video about the idea, with perhaps a couple of slides. We've had Showcase submitted since the first TADHack in 2014. Innovation is not the sole domain of developers, everyone can innovate. TADHack enables developers (hack) and innovators (showcase) to share ideas on using the TADHack sponsors' technologies (STROLID with vCon). A showcase is simply a short presentation of an idea about how you can use the sponsors' technologies in your business. Previous TADHack sponsors include: Cisco, RingCentral, Jambonz, Avaya, Telnyx, Subspace, Simwood, Sagoma, NTT, Flowtoute, Matrix, Tropo, Temasys, Ericsson, Vidyo, Telestax, Symbol.ai, Stacuity, Huawei, Oracle, Ubuntu, Google, Nexmo, and more. https://tadhack.com

Miki is the seed founder and Emma a founding member of the Nonviolent Global Liberation community (NGL), which runs entirely as a gift economy. They and NGL as a whole are knee-deep in visionary experimentation about what it would take to realign humanity with life through online and community living experiments. Even without bosses we can still struggle to embody new ways of being together because of our internalised systems of patriarchal conditioning and capitalist thinking. The capacity lens gives us a way to examine this and make more conscious choices together. As Miki puts it, “Everyone who gets into it falls in love with it, because it moves us from rigidity to flexibility, from predictability to emergence, from coercion to willingness, from judgement to tenderness. Who wouldn't want that?”  An incredibly valuable episode if you are wrestling with topics like fairness, how to distribute tasks and roles, leadership in a bossless environment, how to avoid burnout or how to deal with overwhelm in the face of huge societal challenges. This week, we talk to composer Mac Quayle, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with his Emmy-winning score to Sam Esmail's mysterious, genre-bending series Mr. Robot. Since then, he's enjoyed healthy collaborations with Esmail and fellow showrunner Ryan Murphy, for whom he's scored everything from American Horror Story and Pose to 9-1-1.   For his latest score, Quayle reunites with Esmail for a film this time -- Netflix's eerie adaptation of Rumaan Alam's 2020 novel Leave the World Behind. Following a well-off couple (Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke) on a vacation to a remote Airbnb with their two children, the film takes a bizarre turn when the home's owner, G.H. (Mahershala Ali), and his daughter (Myha'la) return and insist on staying there. Meanwhile, the power goes out, deer start behaving strangely, and one gets the sense the world is coming to an end.   That sense is borne out in Quayle's approach, constructed from a custom library of sounds he built specifically for the movie. And now, Quayle talks to us about building a score to suit the end of the world.   You can find Mac Quayle at his official website.   Leave the World Behind is currently streaming on Netflix, and you can hear the score on your preferred streamer courtesy of Netflix Music.   Support us on Patreon   Follow us on Twitter/X at @rightoncuepod

Her partner, Dan Quayle, opted for a medically assisted death It was a choice he made after waiting for chemotherapy and treatment that didn't come fast enough. The oncologist would come in and say, 'We're pretty backlogged right now so hang in there But Quayle ran out of time. The 52-year-old grandfather – described as jolly, big-hearted and playful – died on Nov. 24. Quayle was diagnosed with esophageal cancer months after first feeling ill. While he waited for treatment, his health declined, which led him to choose MAID The family's pain emerges as numbers reported on radiation therapy reveal that only 75 per cent of patients in B.C. are receiving it within the recommended 28-day benchmark — lower than the 77 per cent in May when the province started sending patients to the U.S. for radiation due to long waits in B.C. The province has hired 61 oncologists and 27 radiation therapists since April. The health minister says those waiting longer than the benchmarks for radiation are being prioritized. “Those numbers — the people waiting 28 days are going to fall — because there are fewer people now on the waitlist,” said Dix Tuesday.   Here's how much more it's expected to cost to feed a family of 4 in Canada next year https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/here-s-how-much-more-it-s-expected-to-cost-to-feed-a-family-of-4-in-canada-next-year-1.6675985 In 2022, a report estimated the overall food price increases would be between five to seven per cent — the latest data from Statistics Canada pegs the food inflation rate at 5.9 per cent. In the latest edition of the annual report, the authors believe the overall rate of inflation will be lower in 2024, falling to somewhere between 2.5 and 4.5 per cent. According to Charlebois, things are "much calmer now," which could result in more deals and potentially some price wars between the big grocers. "Margins are going to be everything," he said. "And because consumers don't have any money now, grocers will be fighting for our business." Over the next year, Charlebois believes grocery stores will be offering more incentives to consumers like loyalty programs and deals to entice people. One of the tactics used is selling items at a loss, which brings the customer through the grocer's doors, but then the store would increase the prices for other items, hoping the consumer will buy those as well, he explained.   One way to save money on groceries… no more cantaloupes   Death toll rises to five in cantaloupe salmonella outbreak, as cases almost double https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/death-toll-rises-to-five-in-cantaloupe-salmonella-outbreak-as-cases-almost-double-1.6678564 Five people have died in a salmonella outbreak linked to Malichita and Rudy brand cantaloupes sold in six provinces. A CTV News investigation shows that the OPP has declared misconduct by its own officers not serious about 80 per cent of the time in the last five years, and sends identical paragraphs that don't explain its reasoning in cases from neglect of duty to unlawful use of force. Courtney D'Arthenay said she couldn't believe she received a boilerplate letter informing her that the OPP would resolve her complaint without a hearing after an officer accidentally struck and killed her husband Tyler Dorzyk while speeding near Barrie in 2020. "The appellant [Szezepaniak] says that IH is required to respect her exercise of her Charter rights," an appeal board panel wrote in a Nov. 20 decision. "The implication is that in order to respect her decision IH must not take any steps that hold the appellant accountable for the consequences of that decision. Having the right to make a decision, and your right to do so acknowledged, or respected, is not the same as being held responsible for the consequences." in other words, the decision says, Interior Health didn't challenge Szezekpaniak's right to refuse the vaccine, but it did hold her accountable for the fact that choice left her unable to work under provincial law. Father Hesburgh, I thank you very much and for so many things. The distinguished honor that you've conferred upon me here today, I must say, however, compounds a sense of guilt that I have nursed for almost 50 years. I thought the first degree I was given was honorary. But it's wonderful to be here today with Governor Orr, Governor Bowen, Senators Lugar and Quayle, and Representative Hiler, these distinguished honorees, the trustees, administration, faculty, students, and friends of Notre Dame and, most important, the graduating class of 1981. Nancy and I are greatly honored to share this day with you, and our pleasure has been more than doubled because I am also sharing the platform with a longtime and very dear friend, Pat O'Brien.Pat and I haven't been able to see much of each other lately, so I haven't had a chance to tell him that there is now another tie that binds us together. Until a few weeks ago I knew very little about my father's ancestry. He had been orphaned at age 6. But now I've learned that his grandfather, my great-grandfather, left Ireland to come to America, leaving his home in Ballyporeen, a village in County Tipperary in Ireland, and I have learned that Ballyporeen is the ancestral home of the O'Briens. Now, if I don't watch out, this may turn out to be less of a commencement than a warm bath in nostalgic memories. Growing up in Illinois, I was influenced by a sports legend so national in scope, it was almost mystical. It is difficult to explain to anyone who didn't live in those times. The legend was based on a combination of three elements: a game, football; a university, Notre Dame; and a man, Knute Rockne. There has been nothing like it before or since. My first time to ever see Notre Dame was to come here as a sports announcer, 2 years out of college, to broadcast a football game. You won or I wouldn't have mentioned it.A number of years later I returned here in the company of Pat O'Brien and a galaxy of Hollywood stars for the world premiere of "Knute Rockne—All American" in which I was privileged to play George Gipp. I've always suspected that there might have been many actors in Hollywood who could have played the part better, but no one could have wanted to play it more than I did. And I was given the part largely because the star of that picture, Pat O'Brien, kindly and generously held out a helping hand to a beginning young actor.Having come from the world of sports, I'd been trying to write a story about Knute Rockne. I must confess that I had someone in mind to play the Gipper. On one of my sports broadcasts before going to Hollywood, I had told the story of his career and tragic death. I didn't have very many words on paper when I learned that the studio that employed me was already preparing a story treatment for that film. And that brings me to the theme of my remarks.I'm the fifth President of the United States to address a Notre Dame commencement. The temptation is great to use this forum as an address on a great international or national issue that has nothing to do with this occasion. Indeed, this is somewhat traditional. So, I wasn't surprised when I read in several reputable journals that I was going to deliver an address on foreign policy or on the economy. I'm not going to talk about either. But, by the same token, I'll try not to belabor you with some of the standard rhetoric that is beloved of graduation speakers. For example, I'm not going to tell you that "You know more today that you've ever known before or that you will ever know again." The other standby is, "When I was 14, I didn't think my father knew anything. By the time I was 21, I was amazed at how much the old gentleman had learned in 7 years." And then, of course, the traditional and the standby is that "A university like this is a storehouse of knowledge because the freshmen bring so much in and the seniors take so little away." You members of the graduating class of 18—or 1981—I don't really go back that far—are what behaviorists call achievers. And while you will look back with warm pleasure on your memories of these years that brought you here to where you are today, you are also, I know, looking at the future that seems uncertain to most of you but which, let me assure you, offers great expectations.Take pride in this day. Thank your parents, as one on your behalf has already done here. Thank those who've been of help to you over the last 4 years. And do a little celebrating; you're entitled. This is your day, and whatever I say should take cognizance of that fact. It is a milestone in life, and it marks a time of change.Winston Churchill, during the darkest period of the "Battle of Britain" in World War II said: "When great causes are on the move in the world . . . we learn we are spirits, not animals, and that something is going on in space and time, and beyond space and time, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."Now, I'm going to mention again that movie that Pat and I and Notre Dame were in, because it says something about America. First, Knute Rockne as a boy came to America with his parents from Norway. And in the few years it took him to grow up to college age, he became so American that here at Notre Dame, he became an All American in a game that is still, to this day, uniquely American. As a coach, he did more than teach young men how to play a game. He believed truly that the noblest work of man was building the character of man. And maybe that's why he was a living legend. No man connected with football has ever achieved the stature or occupied the singular niche in the Nation that he carved out for himself, not just in a sport, but in our entire social structure. Now, today I hear very often, "Win one for the Gipper," spoken in a humorous vein. Lately I've been hearing it by Congressmen who are supportive of the programs that I've introduced. But let's look at the significance of that story. Rockne could have used Gipp's dying words to win a game any time. But 8 years went by following the death of George Gipp before Rock revealed those dying words, his deathbed wish. And then he told the story at halftime to a team that was losing, and one of the only teams he had ever coached that was torn by dissension and jealousy and factionalism. The seniors on that team were about to close out their football careers without learning or experiencing any of the real values that a game has to impart. None of them had known George Gipp. They were children when he played for Notre Dame. It was to this team that Rockne told the story and so inspired them that they rose above their personal animosities. For someone they had never known, they joined together in a common cause and attained the unattainable. We were told when we were making the picture of one line that was spoken by a player during that game. We were actually afraid to put it in the picture. The man who carried the ball over for the winning touchdown was injured on the play. We were told that as he was lifted on the stretcher and carried off the field he was heard to say, "That's the last one I can get for you, Gipper."Now, it's only a game. And maybe to hear it now, afterward—and this is what we feared—it might sound maudlin and not the way it was intended. But is there anything wrong with young people having an experience, feeling something so deeply, thinking of someone else to the point that they can give so completely of themselves? There will come times in the lives of all of us when we'll be faced with causes bigger than ourselves, and they won't be on a playing field. This Nation was born when a band of men, the Founding Fathers, a group so unique we've never seen their like since, rose to such selfless heights. Lawyers, tradesmen, merchants, farmers—56 men achieved security and standing in life but valued freedom more. They pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. Sixteen of them gave their lives. Most gave their fortunes. All preserved their sacred honor. They gave us more than a nation. They brought to all mankind for the first time the concept that man was born free, that each of us has inalienable rights, ours by the grace of God, and that government was created by us for our convenience, having only the powers that we choose to give it. This is the heritage that you're about to claim as you come out to join the society made up of those who have preceded you by a few years, or some of us by a great many. This experiment in man's relation to man is a few years into its third century. Saying that may make it sound quite old. But let's look at it from another viewpoint or perspective. A few years ago, someone figured out that if you could condense the entire history of life on Earth into a motion picture that would run for 24 hours a day, 365 days—maybe on leap years we could have an intermission—this idea that is the United States wouldn't appear on the screen until 31/2 seconds before midnight on December 31st. And in those 3? seconds not only would a new concept of society come into being, a golden hope for all mankind, but more than half the activity, economic activity in world history, would take place on this continent. Free to express their genius, individual Americans, men and women, in 3 1/2 seconds, would perform such miracles of invention, construction, and production as the world had never seen.As you join us out there beyond the campus, you know there are great unsolved problems. Federalism, with its built in checks and balances, has been distorted. Central government has usurped powers that properly belong to local and State governments. And in so doing, in many ways that central government has begun to fail to do the things that are truly the responsibility of a central government. All of this has led to the misuse of power and preemption of the prerogatives of people and their social institutions. You are graduating from a great private,

Politicians, like any public figures, sometimes make verbal slips or misspeak, leading to memorable and often humorous moments. Here are a few notable examples:George W. Bush: Known for his malapropisms, one of his most famous misspeaks was when he said, "They mis underestimated me," combining "misunderstood" and "underestimated."Barack Obama: In 2008, while campaigning, Obama mistakenly said he had visited "57 states" in the U.S., obviously misspeaking the number of states.Dan Quayle: As Vice President, Quayle famously misspelled "potato" by adding an unnecessary "e" at the end during a school spelling bee.Donald Trump: Known for his unique speaking style, Trump once referred to the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, as "Tim Apple," which became a widely discussed gaffe.Joe Biden once introduced Barack Obama as Barack America.Keeping politicians on message and on strategy can be tough. Sandy Seeber-Quayle learned about adapting to change early in her life. Born in Eastern Germany, she was seven years old when her parents divorced suddenly, leaving her and her toddler brother to be raised by her mother, who struggled with the breakup. Consequently, Sandy took on more responsibilities at home, leaving less time for fun. Four years later, the Berlin Wall came down, and everything changed. Then Sandy's Mom found a new partner, and they moved to a new village. After an anxious start in her new school, Sandy was embraced by her new classmates and she made friends. This was the first of several moves during her formative years. At eighteen, Sandy got an apprenticeship in an insurance company, and she continued there for eleven years, learning many aspects of the business. Eventually, she was training apprentices. Sandy loved teaching, but she got itchy feet, as she put it. She started traveling all over the world as often as she could. Then, she decided to leave her job and traveled extensively, 808 days, to be exact. She also met her now husband during that time. Today, Sandy lives near Dublin, Ireland. She specializes in developing middle managers using her KUBA Pilot Strategy to foster effective thinking habits, enabling them to remain calm under stress, overcome biases, and enhance their relationships. But what she thought was the worst day of her life soon turned surreal. As she was stumbling through the layers of grief, pain and confusion, a shocking story came to light, one that left her a shell of her former self. The life she knew continued to unravel as she discovered that she was not the only woman in his life. Over the next weeks, months, and years, the trauma and feelings of betrayal almost destroyed her. But over time she dug deep, transcended the pain, found her voice again, and ultimately created her own success.   In April of 2021, Stephanie received a phone call from his daughter seeking her own answers to the wake her father left behind. She was painting her way through her healing in her senior year of college. The emotions from that dark time came flooding back and Quayle knew what she had to do. “Twelve years of thoughts, feelings and memories rushed over me like a wave. I had to write these songs. This was a must for me.”    Soon after, this Montana cowgirl was headed back to the ranch, with songwriter collaborator and confidante Tori Tullier alongside. During this writing retreat, they talked, wrote, sang, laughed, hiked along the creek, looked for double rainbows, spent time with horses, and let the power of the mountains elicit the power of the emotions. The songs from that session plumb the depths. Heartfelt, gripping, emotional and ultimately uplifting, they capture the Nashville songstress at her most vulnerable — and her most assured.    The eight tracks of On the Edge explore that fundamentally human experience when in your darkest moments you're faced with a decision, when you're forced to choose between descending into the darkness or seeking the light. On the Edge is a redemptive tale, and a profoundly personal one. It's one in which Stephanie Quayle charts the stranger-than-fiction story in which she found herself — from the day the love of her young life shattered on an airport runway, and the harrowing aftermath of that tragedy — to the place of grace where she finds herself today.    The long silence on this story is a natural outcome of the resilience and reticence ingrained in Stephanie from an early age. She grew up on a farm in Montana, where her family raised bison and cattle, kept draft and riding horses and grew alfalfa. Stephanie came to music early, starting with piano lessons taught by her stepdad's mom. Her creativity flourished on the farm in the form of stories, poems and songs and making music on piano and guitar. It was music that helped her get through the challenging teenage years, even landing her the role of lead singer in a Swiss rock band. After graduating from high school, Stephanie packed her guitar and headed west to California where she worked day jobs while playing wherever she could. A decade in, the unthinkable happened: her life partner, her charismatic boyfriend with the larger-than-life personality, was suddenly gone, and her core beliefs shaken.    The years that followed — The Lost Years — found her face down and wallowing in the dirt. “At 29, my whole world stopped,” she says. “It was a defining moment that made me question everything and wonder if I was ever going to sing again. I had to re-evaluate where I was headed and what I had to say.” But with the help of family and friends, she eventually picked herself up and resumed her career. She moved to Nashville, saw her songs hit the charts, garnered industry accolades, and performed at the Grand Ole Opry over ten times. Eventually she fell in love again, married North Carolina businessman David Couch in 2015, and embarked on the most productive and exciting period of her career. Stephanie founded her own record label and was turning out new material with a number of co-writers; she was traveling relentlessly and performing to an ever growing fan base. In 2018 ‘Selfish' cracked the Billboard chart. Then in 2019, “Whatcha Drinkin ‘Bout” was charging up the charts when along came Covid. In March 2020 Stephanie was on her way to perform as part of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Texas events when she had to cancel forty concerts and shelter in place at the North Carolina farm. Despite this setback, she quickly pivoted, finding new ways to connect to her fans while bringing music and farm animals into the lives of her followers. She started live-streaming, sharing eighty performances in eighty days, and recorded an album virtually with musicians in Nashville.    When out of the blue her former life came calling, she heeded the inner voice. She followed that voice to Montana and wrote the songs for On The Edge, an album that heralds a whole new dimension for the artist. “I've been writing and recording since I was sixteen, but there was a shift, writing in Montana. I created the space to write with no intention other than to write. I allowed the songs the space to just be songs and it was like a dam broke. There's no more force, there's no more ‘we have to's'. There's a rawness to the story, and a pureness in its creation. It's what it's meant to be, and I am where I need to be.”    To create her third Nashville studio album, Stephanie worked for the first time with five-time Grammy-nominated, ASCAP-award-winning producer Paul Moak. “I had to trust him without knowing him, but I wanted the unfamiliar on both our sides so I'd be stretched as an artist, as a songwriter and as a person. I think what is elevated in the sound is the space Paul created and sonic foundations that are about the songs rather than the genre. There is a live band feel to this recording. To me, it doesn't feel like a departure from my previous work, but an elevation in depth, warmth, vulnerability and richness.”    On the Edge explores the big themes in life and offers an unflinching portrait of grief, loss, betrayal and redemption. And it does so with the singer's signature honesty, humor, strength and style. This music has helped her move forward, and she hopes it will do the same for others. “It takes a lot of courage to share your weaknesses,” says Stephanie. “But it's important to be vulnerable, because you never know who needs to hear it. This album is about moving people's hearts and minds. It's about music's redemptive qualities. This freedom is both terrifying, and exhilarating, and I cannot wait to take this music to the stage!”

Episode 53 Sylvia Quayle Part 1 of 2Sylvia Quayle was a creative and artistic young woman who loved life when hers was brutally taken from her in August 1981. Sylvia's was the first murder on record in bucolic Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, and police were stumped until, two years later, they thought the case was solved. But then that suspect was exonerated, and ten years later, the cold as ice case was back to square one. Ample DNA evidence left by a single male perpetrator did not get investigators anywhere – it simply served to rule out suspect after suspect. Finally, forensic genealogy finally pointed in the right direction – to a suspect who lived nearby and targeted Sylvia. He got away with it for decades, but finally, justice came for himFor all things DNA: ID, visit the show's homepage:DNAIDpodcast.comTo Support DNA: ID on Patreon, visit this link:https://www.patreon.com/DNAIDTo buy DNA ID Merch, visit this link:https://www.customizedgirl.com/s/dnaidpodcastFollow DNA: ID on Social Mediaon Twitter at- https://twitter.com/DNAIDPodcaston Facebook at- https://www.facebook.com/DNA-ID-True-Crime-Podcast-103667495017418on Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/dnaidpodcast/
