It's been a long time coming, but we're finally discussing one of the greatest games of all time in a more in-depth manor: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past! We're Definitively Ranking the game, assigning scores to each of the ten key categories that define a great Zelda game: the world, the art style, the gameplay, the pacing, the story, the music, the enemies and bosses, the dungeons, the items, and the side content. We pay our respects to one of the greats while also giving some fair critiques, so come and let us know what you think! JUST AS A REMINDER THERE IS NO SHOW NEXT MONDAY! This week we're doing something very different! By Patron request, we're playing a classic SNES game, The Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past, but we're playing it with a randomizer. Items are moved around, meaning you'll tackle this game in a different order, with different weapons and items than you're used to, and it's a very different experience. Here's the directions we had : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82dogTS1KT4 (Not our video!) and then create your file over here : https://alttpr.com/en We discuss the game itself first, and then our experience with the randomizer, and then of course take on some listener mail. Join us over on our Discord to discuss games, food, or really anything over at https://discord.gg/pb76x32uWY __________________________ If you would like additional bonus episodes of Retrovaniacs or to request a game we must cover, our Patreon is located here : https://www.patreon.com/user?u=21041333 If you enjoy this podcast, why not write a review wherever you download it from? When we sat down to talk about Cave Story, its indelible impact on the video game industry as well as us as people, and its wonderful music... we didn't know where things would go. We never do! But we didn't expect to end up talking about perseverance against cyclical, unending oppression, the demonizing of other cultures and the nature of our creativity. Jap. Klären wir alles auf.

Season 8 Episode 1 This is the start of Season 8, which is focused on the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, but that game was released bundled with a remake of the third Zelda Title, A Link to the Past. So, to kick things off we're going to spend a couple episodes revisiting that game and pointing out some of the changes between the two versions. I'm basing much of these episodes off of my Season 3 scripts – but with some updates, and a few corrections. This episode is focused on the developmeny and Legacy of A Link to the Past. It's The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past! The Super Nintendo didn't know what hit it when this game launched way back in the early 90's, and to be honest: neither did we!Somehow neither of us played this video game back when it came out, so in spite of our growing love of Zelda, this marked our FIRST experience with what some consider to be the best video game of all time. Tonight on GeekNights, we review Four Swords, which was released in 2002 on the GBA as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Four Swords. It's basically a tech demo/proof of concept for the real game released on the Gamecube which we reviewed back in 2009. You can play it online with friends on the Switch, and you probably should. In the news, Game Informer is no more, Go AIs can be attacked via exploits, and the new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has engaged the hype machine.Related LinksForum ThreadThe Legend of Zelda: Four SwordsDiscord ChatThe Legend of Zelda: Four SwordsThings of the DayRym - Turkish sharpshooter Yusuf DikeçScott - Chicken Pod #1

Ajankohtaisina aiheina puhumme siitä, miten Sangatsu Manga aikoo julkaista suomeksi Ichigo Takanon mangan Orange, sekä Dragon Ballin tekijä Akira Toriyaman kuolemasta. Lukujonossa vaihteeksi proosatekstiä: Amal El-Mohtarin ja Max Gladstonen romaani Tällä tavalla hävitään aikasota. --- Kommentoi | Threads | Mastodon | Bluesky | X | Instagram --- (01:01) – KUULUMISET: JAKSO 100 LÄHESTYY (01:46) – KUULUMISET: TABICINE - Jakso 92, jossa Petteri kertoi käyneensä Japanissa - TabiCinen nettisivut - The Good Father -elokuvan traileri (YouTube) - Hiroshi Tamaki - Nodame Cantabile - The Silent Service - Golden Kamuy - Sara Minami - Netflixin uusi Kimin ni todoke (13:16) – MIKSI KAIKKI MANGA NÄYTTÄÄ SAMALTA: ESITTELY (14:37) – MIKSI KAIKKI MANGA NÄYTTÄÄ SAMALTA: MANGAN MÄÄRITELMÄ - Dramacon ja Sword Princess Amaltea eivät ole mangaa, vaikka jäljittelevätkin mangatyyliä - Mainittuja rajatapauksia: - Felipe Smithin manga Peepo Choo - Minami Sakain manga I Bombed a Pull So Bad it Yeeted Me into an Otome Game, so I'm Gonna Clear My Best Boy's Route! - Shotaro Ishinomorin manga(?) Ajinin Satoo - Kuroshitsujin Lau - …ja jos tällainen hahmo avaakin silmänsä, se on merkittävä kerronnallinen hetki (kuva, Kuroshitsuji) - Pokémonin Brockin kiinniolevat silmät ovat mysteeri, koska niiden kiinnioloon ei tunnu liittyvän mitään kerronnallista merkitystä (01:00:00) – MIKSI KAIKKI MANGA NÄYTTÄÄ SAMALTA: MUITA MANGAN OMINAISPIIRTEITÄ - Mustavalkoisuus - Rasterien ja harmaasävyjen käyttö - Jakso 93, jossa puhuimme rasterifirma IC:n haastattelusta - Reverse Thievesin vuoden 2010 blogipostaus siitä, miten länsimaisessa “mangatyylisessä” sarjakuvassa (“OEL manga”) käytetään harmaasävyjä usein varjostamiseen, toisin kuin mangassa on tapana - Tenken on harvinainen esimerkki mangasta jossa käytetään harmaasävyjä länsimaistyylisesti, joten se pistää silmään ja tuntuu epämangamaiselta – etenkin koska kyse on tasaisista harmaasävyistä eikä rasterista (kuva) - Shoujo Fight on toinen esimerkki, joskaan ei ihan niin äärimmäinen - Negatiivisen tilan käyttö - Inio Asanon tyyli - Kengo Hanazawan tyyli - Maaretin blogipostaus Pandora Heartsin kohtauksesta, joka alkaa sillä, että negatiivinen tila pysäyttää luku-flow'n - Ogeretsu Tanakan negatiivisen tilan käytöstä (kuva, Daisy Jealousy) puhuimme jaksossa 88 - Kuvakerronnan kieli täynnä symboliikkaa (hikipisarat, kiristyvät otsasuonet, chibihahmot, alastomat astraalivartalot, järkytyksestä kadonneet pupillit) - Katseenkuljetus - Mangakerronnalle tyypillinen S-rakenne toistuu BL-manga Unfazed by the Disaster in My Lifessa lähes joka sivulla - Petterin twiitti Vorosta - Petterin twiitti Shigeru Mizukista - Rachel Thornin twiitti mangan T-risteyksistä - Telophasen Livejournal-postaus katseenkuljetuksesta (vaatii nykyään sisäänkirjautumisen) - Fruits Basket vs. Descendants of Darkness - Jakso 80, jossa puhuimme Nana & Kaorusta ja mainitsimme, että tekijän varhaisemmissa sarjoissa hän ei osannut katseenkuljetusta (kuva) - Ruutuasettelut ja sivusommittelut - Japanijulkaisuissa mangassa käytetään tyypillisesti useita fontteja sekaisin, kun taas länsijulkaisuissa rajoitetaan fonttien määrää (paitsi Verticalin vanhoissa julkaisuissa, jotka pyrkivät toistamaan alkuperäisen fonttikakofonian) - Ääniefektit, joista puhuimme jaksossa 66 - Ogiue Maniaxin blogipostaus vuodelta 2010, jossa huomautetaan Reverse Thievesin blogipostauksen innoittamana, että OEL-manga näyttää itse asiassa enemmän animelta kuin mangalta (01:23:01) – MIKSI KAIKKI MANGA NÄYTTÄÄ SAMALTA: ERI GENREJEN OMINAISPIIRTEET - Banana Fish - Akira - Blade of the Immortal - Lone Wolf and Cub - Vagabond (01:28:37) – MIKSI KAIKKI MANGA NÄYTTÄÄ SAMALTA: BL-SARJAT - My New Boss Is Goofy ei ole BL-sarja, mutta käyttää hyväkseen BL-estetiikkaa - Geikomi, jota toisinaan edelleen baraksi kutsutaan - BL-estetiikka eroaa tytöille suunnattujen söpöpoikasarjojen estetiikasta, johon liittyy lennokkaampaa suunnittelua ja värikoodausta (tällaiset sarjat ovat myös usein anime- tai monimediatuoteperheitä enemmän kuin ensisijaisesti mangasarjoja) - Ryman's Club (sulkapallopojat) - Free! (uimapojat) - Tsurune (jousiammuntapojat) - Re-Main (vesipoolopojat) - Prince of Stride (parkour-pojat) - Backflip!! From the console wars sparked by SEGA's audacious Genesis challenging Nintendo's reign, to the rise of iconic mascots like Sonic the Hedgehog, these years were rife with innovation and intense competition. As the early 90s progressed, the industry's focus transitioned from captivating mascots to the sheer power of hardware, with giants like Nintendo, SEGA, and the emerging Sony pushing technological boundaries. Dive deep into this exhilarating era, exploring the rapid evolution of gaming and pondering on the impact of the fierce rivalries that shaped the landscape we know today. From 1990 to 1992, the gaming landscape was marked by pivotal transitions and fierce competition. The early part of this period witnessed a heightened rivalry between Nintendo and SEGA, underscored by the surprise challenge from SEGA's Genesis and Nintendo's subsequent launch of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. SEGA's calculated introduction of Sonic the Hedgehog, designed not just to challenge Mario but to symbolize SEGA's essence, added a new dimension to the console wars. By 1992, the narrative shifted from the charm of mascots to the raw technological might, as the industry, now with Sony entering the scene, was abuzz with innovation. This era, enriched by game design legends and a focus on advanced graphics and gameplay, showcased the industry's rapid evolution and potential trajectories influenced by intense rivalries.Featured Games:Super Mario Bros 3, The Secret of Monkey Island, Mega Man 3, Wing Commander, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2, Sonic the Hedgehog, Lemmings, Final Fantasy IV, Super Castlevania IV, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Wolfenstein 3D, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, Alone in the Dark, and Kirby's Dream Land. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme

The paranormal comedy podcast where we probe the dancing plague. All through history and most famously in Strasbourg, a market town in the Holy Roman Empire during 1518, dancing mania, has struck. The dancing plague has afflicted and possibly been responsible for the death of up to 15 people per day, effecting up to 400 people in total on one occasion over the course of a few months. But what caused it? Some accounts tie the Strasbourg event all back to one person, Frau aka Mrs Troffea. Frau, had the moves and not just like Jagger oh no no for Frau, Electric Slided in to a Time Warp as she showed the town how to Dougie. It turns out that dance is infectious and the town would need to come up with some quite creative ways to stop that plague from spreading. What this doesn't tell us however is what struck Frau? Was this a saintly curse? A demonic curse? Something altogether more biological in nature? Whatever it was, this plague could hit you so hard that you'd end up in Heavvvvennnnn. We think you'd be in Heavvvveeennnnnnnn. All that and more on this week's file. As we discussed the bustling market town you of course will have heard the Market theme from 1998's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, followed by part of the End Credits theme, which were composed by Hero of Sound Kōji Kondō for Nintendo. Also composed by Kōji was the Fortune Telling House theme from 1991-1992's The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. We finished the episode as is often usual with the ‘Staff Roll' aka credits theme from 1990-1992's Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, also composed by Kōji Kondō. Between those tunes, you may have noticed the theme from The WB and UPN's 1997-2003 Buffy the Vampire Slayer courtesy of Nerf Herder. Legendary.

The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe the contentious theories of Mr David Icke. You see David Icke had a higher purpose on this earth which was for the best because the B B C left David unfulfilled… David would be led to meet psychic Betty Shine who would set David on the path he may have always been meant for. A path to enlightenment at a pre-Incan burial ground in Peru, via Quickening. David, empowered by the Quickening, would do what any person led by the holy word would do and entered a thruple. David's turquoise-infused power led David to make his own prophecies. Would these prophecies come to pass? Would the fact that David himself was told a prophecy of what he would achieve, influence David? Regardless, David would ultimately pull together a theory connecting UFO's, new world order, 5g, satanism and secret societies - if you can name a conspiracy theory, it probably connects back to David Icke. All that and more on this week's file. Not for the first time, there was a snippet of the Fortune Telling House Theme from the The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - the Super Nintendo masterpiece released during 1991 (Japan) and 1992 (North America and the United Kingdom/Europe). The music was composed by the legendary Kōji Kondō whom also composed the Staff Roll aka credits theme from 1990-1992's Super Mario World on the same console which we regularly close out with. Also by that legendary Hero of Sound for a different console, the N64, was the Legend of Hyrule theme from 1998's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Text us and say hello! We're onto part 2 of our journey through the world of Nintendo. In this episode, Lou and I are taking a deep dive into one of the most iconic consoles of all time: the Super Nintendo. From classic titles like Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, to hidden gems like Earthbound and Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters, it's not out of left field to say that the Super Nintendo was truly the pinnacle of 2D gaming back in the 90s. It introduced and perfected so many genres in gaming that are still around to this day. We'll be exploring the unforgettable moments and experiences that made this console a beloved part of our childhoods, from our earliest memories of the SNES, to an evaluation of which games hold up today, and which games are straight trash. So grab your controller, pop in your favorite game, and enjoy our discussion of the Super Nintendo, on Generation 'S'.Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)
