Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as "Mo Bros") to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Using the moustache as the driving symbol of the movement, Movember focuses on the three key areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health & suicide prevention. Since inception, the Movember Foundation has raised $837 million and funded over 1,200 projects in more than 20 countries. Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression, in Australia and New Zealand. Tom Leard is a 41-year-old husband, father, son, and firefighter. He grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, about 10 miles west of Boston. Tom has been involved in the Movember Foundation since 2010 and hasn't looked back. The thing that he likes so much about the Movember Foundation is that they're solely focused on men's health. The work with his team that they've created has been grassroots. They've been hosting events and simply having powerful conversations with other men in their lives focusing on their overall health and wellness. And we have a great group of Mo Bros, that's how he describes it, that gets the message out and raises funds for the ongoing work of the Movember Foundation. https://www.instagram.com/tomleard/ https://www.facebook.com/tom.leard It's Men's Month on Survive to Thrive! What started out as a chat between mates, has transformed into one of the largest men's foundations in the world. Movember has raised a staggering $1.2 Billion, has funded over 1,250 health programs, and has created a community of over 6 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas all around the world.

Danny chats with Ben of the League of Extraordinary Mo Bros about Movember, Men's Health, Mental Health, and what his team is doing to crush the stigma surrounding Men's Health.
It was an honor to chat with Greg Oliva for this episode. Based in Los Angeles, Greg is a Member of the community development team working with dedicated Mo Bros and Mo Sisters from around the US to support them in their efforts to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. He works for Movember as their Community Development Manager. He shared so much information that was new to me and it's so worth taking time on the Movember.com website to learn about the scary numbers regarding men's mental and physical health. Just to name a couple: 3 out of 4 suicides are men and there's one a minute. Meaning just during this podcast alone, 60 men have taken their life. Greg not only talks about the stats but he talks about all the tools continually being developed to stop this number in it's tracks and preventing men from dying too early. Movember has long been my favorite charity and causes. It’s the leading charity changing the face of men’s health on a global scale, focusing on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Movember is best known for their campaign they do in November where November 1st you clean shave your face and grow a statue throughout the month which opens up conversations to others. They also have a way to create your own Mo-Community on their website and have friendly competitions for raising funds for more research and prevention tools. Movember has given the largest donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The charity raises funds to deliver innovative, breakthrough research and support programs that enable men to live happier, healthier and longer lives. Committed to disrupting the status quo, millions have joined the movement, helping fund over 1,250 projects around the world. In addition to tackling key health issues faced by men, Movember is working to encourage men to stay healthy in all areas of their life, with a focus on men staying socially connected and becoming more open to discussing their health and significant moments in their lives. The charity’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. To donate or learn more, please visit Movember.com. Hope you enjoy this conversation and please share it with the men in your life! The word that stands out from my chat with Anthony Power of Pilgrim in Liverpool is fun. Anthony has been involved with a lot of projects and businesses and life adventures and he describes them all as fun. And I believe him. He exudes a palpable appreciation of life and the many opportunities he has been offered and has seized in both hands. He has worked in Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, London and now Liverpool. He was one of the first 30 Mo Bros who launched Movember back in 2003. He has also authored a cookbook and was a founding member of Root+Bone magazine. He is back in his home town of Melbourne for one of those opportunities; a chance to work in with chef Paolo Arlotta from Herbivorous Nights, Orlando Marzo, the 2018 World’s Best Bartender and Liinaa Berry, sommelier. This gun team are, over two weekends at the end of March, curating a pop-up seven-course tasting menu at Young Bloods in Fitzroy, inspired by the ancient pilgrimage through France and Spain called the Camino de Santiago.
In short: Show got burnt, Adam attacked a bird and Symon at the last Subway. In depth: We run through a few more simple pleasures, before Symon tells us about a fishing trip he went on in Wang over the weekend.Adam's been losing sleep which turns into two blokes making generic bird sounds for about four minutes. We give an almighty shout out to Keira for doing the Lord's work (also shout out AirDrop – what a tool (#nofreeads)) and we check in with the Mo Bros as the Mo Bros' Mos grow.
‘If you want a great beard we are here to show you the road’ In this highly entertaining and informative episode, Khadija is talking to the Mo Bros, Keval Kunal and Savan three brothers who undertook the challenge of Movember in 2014 and on finding there were no great beard products were inspired to create their own. Mo Bro’s was born and is now in 78 countries across the world helping men to achieve the image they want with an amazing beard. There is something for everyone in this episode listen in and enjoy KEY TAKEAWAYS As brits, we are really good at having ideas but rarely take them through to execution Through our rivalry as brothers, borne from the challenge of Movember in 2014 we created a business which is now in 78 countries around the world. As a brand, we want to promote wellbeing for men overall and this involves eating well and exercising regularly. Over the last five years, we have continually worked to improve our offering and we believe we’ve now hit 5 stars. Being patchy, scratchy or unruly are the common challenges for men when growing beards We love being able to change the image of men and restore their confidence. Our why is being able to help change the image of guys who want to have a better lifestyle. We fix images rather than beards. Every business has a core purpose and ours is about empowering men and making them feel better about themselves. Being able to inspire and share some of the wisdom we have learnt from starting at the bottom and working through every tier of business is very important to us. If we can help other businesses we do it’s a way of us giving back to our community. Mo Bros has become a community-led brand. We no longer have to spend money on finding out what our customers want, our community drives the appetite and we just have to listen to what they want. Everyone has their own journey and if you start chasing what someone else is doing you’ll end up achieving their goals. In business, the first thing you should do is work out what your end goal is and then work backwards. We do what we do to make a difference we want to have a positive footprint to leave behind. In the big picture, we want to make a difference in the world we live in, we like to think we are a company born with a soul. If everyone aspired to make a small difference in every company around the world we would live in a much better place, we all have a responsibility to do that. We were never driven by money and there are things that are more important such as integrity, honour and the relationships we have with others. BEST MOMENTS ‘Beards are something that men can truly own’ ‘There is a reason men can grow a beard so let’s keep it and embrace it’ ‘We understand the grind and hustle that goes on behind the scenes’ ‘Charities are really good at making a difference but they are not always business-minded or entrepreneurial we are able to bolt on to an array of charities and make a difference’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Keeping it Real with Khadija Podcast Sales Genius book Fit for Purpose Leadership book MO Bros website ABOUT THE HOST Keep it real with Khadija is an interview-based podcast hosted by Khadija Kalifa. We also hear about 'Movember' as Championed by Kris Campbell. Teachers at SWIS have been supporting this effort for the past three years, and this year the tradition continues. So don't be alarmed when you see a number of male teachers (known as Mo Bros) beginning to grow a fashionable moustache! As well, our female staff (Mo Sistas) may also be seen wearing their own costume moustaches around school. On the Brand Storytelling podcast, we are joined by Movember co-founder Adam Garone who is a keynote speaker at the World Marketing & Sales Forum this year in Melbourne. In the episode we discuss the Movember story, achieving goals and the emotional content that can engage an audience and make them act. Movember is a global organisation committed to changing the face of men's health and helping them to lead happier and longer lives. Adam was the GQ Man of the Year in 2013 and has held previous roles in marketing and strategy before he co-founded Movember. To date, there is over 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the globe contributing to the cause.
Now I had the pleasure and honor to chat with this award-winning slam poet, turned Victoria B.C. city counselor. Jeremy tells us why he wanted to share his passion to change his culture around him, growing up as a sensitive child, how his father has been his role model, and of course we get to talking about Donald Trump. Because we unfortunately cannot avoid THAT any longer. Jeremy talks about social isolation which coincidentally is a subject in review right here in Edmonton. Check out what Edmonton is doing in regards to mental health and isolation especially during the winter month. Or as Jeremy said, find out who is your one friend who you can reach out to. Night Vision is an Edmonton-based collective of producers, DJs, and artists trying to make electronic music awesome and relevant here in the YEG. They are one of the many amazing people trying to make Edmonton dance. Night Vision has graciously allowed me to use their tunes as music for the show, which includes the opener and the background music. The music that you heard from this episode was from a band called Dunmore Park. Click here to be a part of Modern Manhood Podcast's team of Mo Bros
