Richard Gadd joins the show to talk about his new limited series, Baby Reindeer. Based on his award-winning autobiographical one-man play by the same name, the series follows a struggling comedian named Donny (Gadd), whose warped relationship with his female stalker ultimately forces him to face a deeply buried trauma.  Gadd describes throwing himself wholeheartedly into creating the series – from writing its seven episodes to preparing mentally and physically to play Donny. He also digs into the process of casting Jessica Gunning as Martha, unpacks the show's final scene, and shares a few of the surprising reactions he's received from viewers so far. Gadd also explains how being cast as Macbeth in his school play inspired him to pursue performing, recounts the intense moments leading up to his one-man show Monkey See Monkey Do at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and describes how the music of The Pogues has served as the soundtrack to his life.  Listen to more from Netflix Podcasts.

TRACKS (Letra y música de M. Franks en todos los temas menos los indicados.) 1- Nightmoves (Michael Small/Michael Franks) 2- Eggplant 3- Monkey See- Monkey Do 4- St. Elmos Fire 5- I Don't Know Why I'm So Happy I'm Sad 6- Jive 7- Popsicle Toes 8- Sometimes I Just Forget to Smile 9- Mr. Blue CREDITS Michael Franks Vocals Joe Sample Teclados Larry Carlton Guitarras John Guerin Bateria, Percusión Wilton Felder Bajo Michael Brecker Saxo tenor en "Jive" Dave Sanborn Saxo Alto en "Monkey See- Monkey Do" y "Mr. Blue" Larry Bunker Vibráfono Jerry Steinholtz Congas

This week of The Pleasure Podcast we welcome the award-winning comedian, actor and writer Richard Gadd. In 2016 he won the esteemed Edinburgh comedy award, with Monkey See Monkey Do, a raw, personal account about his sexual assault. It was a performance which pushed the boundaries of comedy and which felt monumentally cathartic for its win.In 2019 his first solo theatre show Baby Reindeer was the talk of Edinburgh. In it he relives his experience of being stalked by a woman with a dangerous obsession with him, about wrestling with his sexuality, and trying to come to terms with his assault. We speak about the effects of growing up in an uber masculine world where you thank God you're not gay, and sex ed was devoid of condoms. He speaks about the sexual abuse and grooming which threw his relationship with sex out of orbit. And of the erectile dysfunction that followed which destroyed relationships and his confidence. The dissociation that followed felt at odds with his happy teenage years and the cost was his loss of the ability to be vulnerable and intimate throughout this period of deep pain.Richard tells us how he has been able to approach sex and intimacy again. And how his deeply personal shows have been part of that healing process. He describes what drives a person to make a show about their trauma and what the effect is when you thought it might ruin you but in fact launched you into a whole new dazzling chapter of your career. The emotional and psychological honesty of Richard's work is astonishing. How he tackles the source of his trauma and his evolving understanding of his own masculinity is truly breath taking.CW: There are some subjects which we cover that listeners might find disturbing: Sexual Abuse, Stalking.Follow Richard on social media @MrRichardGadd for more information on his shows and upcoming dates.*We would love to continue the conversation and hear from you: email us at hello@thepleasurepodcast.com or tweet us @ThePleasurePod.Please do rate, review, and share the podcast, we hear it helps other people find us!*Social Media:Naomi Sheldon: @NaomiSheldon1Anand Patel: @therealdranandRichard Gadd: @MrRichardGaddFollow us at @ThePleasurePod and visit us at www.thepleasurepodcast.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The TripAdvisor Effect: Should we trust all online reviews we read? And are the famous Fairy Pools in Scotland a made up story from tour guides? TripAdvisor has been in the news this week with breaking story across media sites about how one London man managed to get his garden shed listed on TripAdvisor as a restaurant then through a series of fake photos and reviews earned the coveted #1 ranking for best restaurant in London. If you haven’t heard the story, there are four articles at our website www.amidlifetraveler.com that you can get the details of, and it’s a good story. But what is the after-affect of this? Will it make people question or wonder more about the accuracy of online travel planning websites with ratings and reviews, such as TripAdvisor? 3 TAKEAWAYS (1)Tourists have Monkey-See / Monkey-Do habits Tourists tend to follow other tourists. While it can start at vacation planning by choosing destinations, hotels, and activities based on ratings of others, it continues into the vacation often with mindless tourist photo safari mentality that has so many people taking pretty much the exact same photos. (2) The internet is drastically shaping travel and setting expectations of tourists.   Travel booking sites with robust ratings and reviews are hugely influential for travelers for travel planning, for better or for worse.  (3) “The Fairy Pools” on Isle of Skye was a story made up by tour guides According to this pioneer tour guide who has led tours to the area for more than 10 years, there was not a place in the Isle of Skye named the Fairy Pools, until guides started to call it that. What began years ago as a story to share with groups of backpackers, has today evolved into a place topping many ‘must see’ lists for Scotland.
