"Half Man" is a British six-part television drama created by multi-Emmy Award winner Richard Gadd ("Baby Reindeer") about Ruben (Stuart Campbell) and Niall (Mitchell Robertson), who grew up as brothers despite not being related by blood—one strong and fiercely loyal, the other quiet and gentle. Thirty years later, they reunite at Niall's (Jamie Bell) wedding, but Ruben (Gadd) seems uneasy and on edge; when a sudden act of violence erupts, it sends the story back through their shared past, revealing how their bond was shaped and how even the closest relationships can ultimately fall apart. It received positive reviews for its blistering writing, direction from Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck, and the performances from the cast. It has been nominated for two Gotham TV Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited or Anthology Series for Bell. Gadd and director Alexandra Brodski were both kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their work and experiences making the series, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the series, which is up for your consideration for this year's Emmy Awards and is now available to stream on HBO Max. Thank you, and enjoy! Richard Gadd is the creative talent behind Baby Reindeer - the Netflix show which won six Primetime Emmys, two Golden Globes and garnered 84.5 million views within its first 45 days. Gadd began in stand-up, and by 2016 he'd won a Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe. His work became known for its compulsive storytelling, blending dark comedy with a kind of philosophical kink for asking audiences the most uncomfortable questions. Now Gadd returns with Half Man, a six-part drama co-production between HBO and the BBC, which Gadd created, wrote, executive produced and stars in. In this episode we talk through his childhood, how it felt to be abruptly catapulted into being the most googled man on the planet following the release of Baby Reindeer and the complexity of identity and sexuality. ✨ IN THIS EPISODE: 03:13 Fame and Self Worth 05:37 Writing Dark Truths 06:52 Baby Reindeer Explosion 08:00 Becoming Ruben 09:40 Half Man Meaning 10:57 Workaholism Origins 23:58 Family Support After Trauma 24:30 Comedy Meets Abuse Healing 26:13 Rebuking Shame 27:51 Fame And Re Triggering 29:12 Stubbornness And Casting Martha 33:03 Sexuality Beyond Labels 36:15 Grudges Empathy Forgiveness 40:13 Athlete Failure And Closing

Half Man is like A24's 21 Jump Street. Richard Gadd's latest kicks off its six-episode run with a queasy coming-of-age story. Episode 1 sets up two timelines, focusing on the relationship between a brother-esque duo as they navigate dysfunctional authority figures, warped bullying power dynamics, and the psychosexual chaos of adolescence. On the pod, we unpack, in lighthearted conversation, what this dark comedy-drama has in store: standout moments, performances, comparisons, and our thoughts on Gadd and his previous series, Baby Reindeer, plus what the reception has been so far. Tune in to hear our rating. Welcome to Today's Episode!
*The episode suffers from some audio issues*. Gary returns to the podcast alongside Matt and Dawn to review four brand new British dramas available this week. Fresh off the massive success of his Netflix series Baby Reindeer, Richard Gadd is back with his first original idea for a series. Half Man, available on BBC One and iPlayer, and co-produced by HBO, is the story of toxic masicnility between two men who were brought together when their two mothers fall in love. In a lot of ways, it shares some DNA with the show that catapulted Gadd to stardom, but is that a good thing? Next, we loved the BBC drama The Responder, which starred Martin Freeman as a stressed out police responser struggling to keep his head above water. Writer Tony Shumacker is very good at writing ordinary people in increasingly stressful situations. His new show, The Cage, stars Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha as two employees of a casino who abuse their position to get ahead in their difficult lives. It's another show that feels a lot like the show that proceeded it. Somehow, though, despite strong lead performances, something doesn't click. Next, ITV have a new political thriller in Secret Service. It's a tropey show that feels very much like a show Gary should and would like, but is that the case? Finally, there's Prisoner, a propulsive new thriller on Sky Atlantic. The series puts Big Boys Izuka Hoyle in the spotlight as a prisoner officer who gets caught in the action when trying to transport a prisoner from one place to another. *The episode suffers from some audio issues*.

Conor Gadd has just opened Burro in Covent Garden, and this episode captures him right at the start of that journey—equal parts excitement, pressure and controlled chaos. Only weeks into service, he reflects on what it feels like to step out from behind the scenes and suddenly be the person everyone wants a piece of. It's a rare, honest snapshot of a chef adjusting not just to a new restaurant, but to a completely new role within it.The conversation leans into the reality of opening: the moments that don't make the press release. Conor recounts a second night so disastrous he genuinely considered shutting the whole thing down, complete with broken lifts, missing tickets and a dining room running blind. He describes the process like sailing across the Atlantic—periods of calm, sudden storms, and the constant temptation to fix everything at once, even when you know that's the one thing you shouldn't do.From there, it opens up into a series of unforgettable stories from his career. There's the Trullo service interrupted by a full Home Office raid, the entire KP team legging it barefoot into the night, and the surreal calm of carrying on service as if nothing had happened. Elsewhere, he reflects on early kitchen days filled with relentless banter, flying onions and hard-earned respect, and the formative experiences that shaped both his cooking and his outlook on the industry. What emerges is a portrait of a chef grounded in instinct, humour and long-term thinking. Conor speaks candidly about what actually sustains a restaurant over decades, why consistency matters more than trends, and how much of the job is simply about people—staff, guests, and the culture you build around them. It's funny, chaotic, occasionally brutal and full of perspective: a conversation driven by stories, not soundbites, with one of the most compelling voices in hospitality.Pre Order Ben's Incredible Book - All You Can Eat - By Clicking Here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-You-Can-Eat-British/dp/1805221523Get 2 Months of Blinq For Free - With Code - GOTOBLINQ - https://blinqme.com/Order The Greatest Meat In The Country From HG Walter Here & Have Restaurant Quality Meals From Home - www.hgwalter.com Hosted on Acast. Perimenopause can feel confusing, frustrating, and overwhelming — but what if it's actually an invitation to listen, reset, and rebuild? In this episode, Bria Gadd, also known as The Period Whisperer, reframes perimenopause as a powerful turning point and shares practical tools to help women stop fighting their bodies and start working with them. Episode Highlights & Talking Points Reframing Perimenopause Why perimenopause isn't a breakdown — it's a breakthrough How this season exposes what your body has been quietly asking for Why so many capable, driven women feel betrayed by their bodies during this transition Hormones, Anxiety & Night Sweats Why progesterone is often the first hormone to drop How estrogen fluctuations contribute to anxiety and sleep disruption The connection between cortisol, blood sugar, and waking up at night Health Debt Explained What "health debt" really means and why it catches up in midlife How years of overtraining, under-fueling, and ignoring symptoms compound over time Why doing more often backfires during perimenopause Energy Supply vs. Energy Demand Why the body's top priority during this phase is survival How to lower energy demand instead of pushing harder The three pillars of energy supply: sleep, nourishment, and joy Nutrition, Liver & Gut Health Why hormones are often the "canary in the coal mine" How liver detoxification and gut health impact estrogen balance Why many high-achieving women have depleted, not dysfunctional, guts Actionable Tools for Relief Seed cycling explained and how it supports hormone balance Simple nighttime strategies to calm cortisol and get back to sleep Why minerals are foundational — especially during hormonal transitions Peptides: What's Real vs. Hype Why peptides are not a replacement for foundational health How peptide therapy fits into functional medicine (when done correctly) The importance of working with a qualified practitioner Strength, Longevity & Training Why lifting weights becomes non-negotiable as women age How muscle protects hormones and long-term vitality Redefining success as quality of life, strength, and freedom Quotes from Bria Gadd "Perimenopause isn't the problem — it's the moment your body asks you to finally listen." "So many women are incredible at pushing through, but this season doesn't reward that — it requires a new relationship with your body." "Health debt is what happens when energy supply and demand no longer meet — and like financial debt, it compounds." "If your body isn't responding the way it used to, it's not failing — it's trying to survive." "Skipping meals is one of the fastest ways to drive cortisol and worsen hormone imbalance." "Your body at midlife is the result of the last 40 to 50 years — which is why the path forward has to be personalized." Rapid-Fire Takeaways One non-negotiable for hormone health: Walking Most underrated lab marker: T3 (thyroid hormone) Biggest menopause myth: That feeling awful is just part of aging Habit to stop: Skipping meals Habit to start: Hydrating daily with minerals Connect with Bria Gadd Instagram https://www.instagram.com/bria_period_whisperer The Period Whisperer Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-period-whisperer/id1548006250 Work with Bria / Functional Labs & Coaching https://www.theperiodwhisperer.com

In this episode, your hosts Daniel Bridge-Gadd and Tristan Bowling dive into the fascinating history of presents during Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. Join us as we unravel the origins, meanings, and some of the best gifts throughout Hanukkah history. The Rich History of Hanukkah Gifts Hanukkah, celebrated for eight nights, goes beyond just the lighting of the menorah. The tradition of gift-giving is a relatively modern development, but it carries profound significance. Origins of Hanukkah Historical Background: Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days. Understanding Hanukkah's historical context helps illuminate why gifts have become integral to the celebration. Evolution of Gift-Giving Early Traditions: Originally, Hanukkah was a time for joy, not necessarily gift-giving. Children received "gelt," or chocolate coins, symbolizing the importance of education and the story of Hanukkah. Modern Adaptations: In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in America, Jewish families began to adopt the tradition of giving gifts, similar to Christmas practices. This shift reflects wider cultural influences and the desire to create festive family traditions. Best Presents in Hanukkah History During this episode, we'll discuss some of the most memorable presents gifted during Hanukkah. This episode discusses youth suicide and social media harm; listener discretion is advised.London was bright, goofy, empathetic, brilliant. She played soccer year-round, read nonstop, danced through the kitchen, and filled her Michigan home with laughter. But during the pandemic, when she was just eight, a smartphone and social media entered her life. What followed was a years-long battle with algorithmic addiction that Charay—like millions of parents—never saw coming. In this raw and devastating interview, London's mom Charay Gadd shares the truth no parent should ever have to live through: TikTok pushing self-harm and suicide content when London searched for harmless topics… Snapchat teaching her to hide messages… multiple secret accounts… emotional manipulation from streaks and scores… and a child who didn't understand the permanence of death because of what she saw online.Charay takes us through London's hospitalizations, the cries for help, and the night everything changed. Her message is one every parent must hear: This wasn't London. This was addiction. This was social media.Today, Charay fights for justice—alongside more than 1,000 families in the national lawsuit against Big Tech—and honors London's life through a scholarship that empowers teens to make a difference in the world. This episode is not entertainment. It's a warning. And it will save lives. You can donate to a scholarship program in London's name, here.

In this episode of Drum History, we take an in-depth look at the legendary gear of Steve Gadd, one of the most recorded and influential drummers of all time. Our returning guest, Paul Wells (Juilliard jazz faculty, Curtis Stigers, Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks), joins host Bart van der Zee for another ultra-detailed “gear episode” exploring the drums that shaped Gadd's sound across his incredible career. Part 1 covers from Childhood to 1989. From his early Gretsch and Rogers kits to the iconic Yamaha setup that became synonymous with his style, we trace how each era of his gear evolved — and how innovations like his tom configurations, hi-hat preferences, and snare choices influenced generations of drummers. Paul also shares insights from his exclusive interview with Steve Gadd, arranged with help from John DeChristopher (Live From My Drum Room), and stories from Artie Smith, Steve's longtime drum tech. Welcome to the Mentorship Sessions! In this episode of the mini series, Kyra and Freddie interview long time friends, climbing partners, and extreme adventure multi-sport athletes Will Gadd and Tim Emmett. Tim is a professional climber, ex–base jumper, and freediver who's pioneered deep-water soloing, pushed the limits of ice climbing, and thrown himself into the extremes of every sport he's tried. Will is a climber, ice climber, paraglider, ex–base jumper, and kayaker with X Games gold medals, Ice Climbing World Cup wins, Canadian sport climbing national titles, and the former world record for the longest paragliding flight, including gliding over the Grand Canyon.
