POPULARITY
Writer Comedian and Storyteller Michael J. Feldman Interview He is a TV writer for many popular shows, and he has a solo show opening in L.A. and NYC soon, about a narcissistic artist who, during the literal apocalypse, decides the best thing for him to do is create a solo show where he plays the role of his overly anxious rescue dog. The show is called No But I'm Definitely In A Better Place Than I've Been In A Long Time. Writing it as Covid and the final months of the Trump Presidency raged on, Michael felt “for lack of a better word: dumb” to be writing and rehearsing as a dog. “People are dying, everyone's scared and anxious and depressed… and here I am barking on the floor and eating dog treats. It all just felt so incredibly ridiculous and stupid.” Connect with us on our website for more amazing conversations! www.brettallanshow.com Have you got some feedback? This was a great episode with a great guy Sebastian Conelli. Sebastian is a actor, writer, and comedian. I think this was my first very solid show. I'm a hard critic on myself, but I really thought this one was my first good episode of The Joe Matarese Show. Let me know if you agree on the shows VM hotline # 951-298-9899. I always love hearing from you guys. I started the episode about 5mins after I found out one of my favorite comedians growing up passed away, the hilarious Richard Lewis. Sebastian and I paid tribute to him, and I pay tribute to him alone at the top of the ep before Sebastian comes onto the episode. This week, Jason is joined by the wildly successful comedian, author, and pop culture podcast host, Heather McDonald! Heather burst onto the scene in the late nineties working as writer and actress for various TV shows through Hollywood. She first gained popularity through her standup comedy shows throughout Los Angeles and eventually landing a role as a writer and roundtable regular on the hit E! Series Chelsea Lately. When Heather isn't headlining theaters across the country with her comedy acts or spending time with her family, she is diving into all things pop culture on her top rated podcast, Juicy Scoop. Heather gives insight to why she went to USC for communication with a business minor when she wanted to work in entertainment, how her family and friends encouraged her to go into standup, why going to an all girls high school made her a standup comedian, how her main source of income was from being a real estate agent with her parents, and how she got back into comedy. Heather also reveals what facilitating a date on the Bachelorette was like, why she thinks the Bachelor franchise needs to reinvented, what she wish she knew earlier when going into auditions and interviews, the big mistake she made at her first late night show writing gig, and how she has been able to monetize on her podcast. Did she have to pay or did she get paid to host a date on the Bachelorette? What was the first late night show she got paid to write for? Where does she think stand up comedy will be in 40 years? How did her podcast Juicy Scoop get started? Heather reveals all that and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! My guest for this episode of Detoxicity is comedian and writer Colby Smith. Colby and I began our acquaintance about six years ago while debuting our respective Radio Free Brooklyn shows. He has moved on to co hosting the podcast "Honey Baby Sweetie Love", which takes a humorous look at online dating. Our conversation touches on our radio experiences, but Colby also details the course that led him from semi-rural beginnings to New York City. He speaks poignantly on friendships and the frustration he's often faced attempting to advocate for himself. On a lighter note, we also touch on Colby's never ending niceness and Elton John fandom.

Comedian and author Ginny Hogan has written her first book I'm More Dateable Than a Plate of Refried Beans and Other Romantic Observations and we're here to give it the Bitch Talk bump. Ginny's book takes us on the ride of how silly online/modern dating has become and has some hilarious observations on how these apps could work a little better for all of us, like, wouldn't it be fun to have an away message option for your DM's? Fucking brilliant. We also chat with Ginny about her book tour, what sober sex is like (and should we give it try?), how online dating has become a job, will her book become a show, and more. Thanks to Ginny for her time and humor. She's a total treat. If you're looking for a fun summer read or as a gift you can find Ginny's book at Chronicle Books, Barnes and Noble, Bookshop.org (or head to your local book store and see if they have it on their shelves). Dennis connects via Zoom with writer-actor-comedian-magician Judy Carter about her new autobiographical stage play A Death Defying Escape, which is currently playing at the Hudson Theatre Guild in Hollywood. Judy talks about the play's 5-year odyssey from conception to production, digging deep for the show's dramatic scenes, working with magic designer Craig Dickens on the show's illusions, and the play's central theme, which is how can we escape what has happened to us in the past and to find love in the present? She also addresses sexism in the world of magic, explains why there are no famous female magicians and recalls the time Doug Henning got handsy with her during a private tutorial. Other topics include: her #1-on-Amazon book The New Comedy Bible, the National Organization of Women gig that helped her realize she was gay, being the opening act for Prince, getting on Oprah with a book that 59 agents rejected, falling in love in her 60's with a millennial, her "Say Yes' philosophy of life and that time she literally got carried out of the Magic Castle by a colleague who couldn't handle a woman doing close-up magic. www.deathdefyingescape.com
