A little girl longs for the heroic queen of their realm to visit her dreams and help her face a nightmarish monster. Genre: Fairy Tale, Fantasy   Excerpt: “She did so come riding down out of the sky on a flying horse!” Carmen glanced around at the rest of her friends, daring anyone else to disagree. But no else did. She settled her gaze on the one who had interrupted her. Kavita crossed her arms and peered ahead with her cool dark eyes. Carmen continued to tell the gathered girls the wondrous tale of how she had met the royal dreamer, the sleeping sorceress, their queen.   What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Each Season 8 episode is a standalone story, but it's connected to or inspired by a previous story through a character, a place, an object, a concept, a continuation of events (ahem, sequel), and so on.   This story is connected to the Year One story entitled “The Dreaming Queen,” in which a reclusive princess, held hostage by an invader and usurper, has only one way to escape and save her people, her dreams.      NEW MERCH!Interested in merch, like mugs and notebooks, featuring my artwork? One of them looks thoughtful, holding her free hand to her chin, while the other looks angry, holding her free hand in a fist.  Behind them in shadowy colors is the oversized figure of a woman seen from the waist up, in three-quarter view facing left, with flowing hair and regal dress, wearing a crown.  Her features are absent.  She wears a necklace with a glowing pendant.  The base of her crown also glows.  Behind the woman at the level of her shoulders is the crown again, enlarged and glowing, and casting up beams of light. Watermark of “Storyfeather” along left side of the dress worn by the girl at left.

Kate Molleson explores the life and work of the amazing Bud PowellThis week Kate Molleson explores the life and work of a jazz giant in his centenary year: the amazing Bud Powell, in the company of Powell's biographer Peter Pullman. Focusing on Bud Powell as a performer, prioritising his own compositions but also appreciating the art of improvisation as spontaneous composition.Bud Powell was born in 1924 and grew up in Harlem, against the backdrop of the Harlem Renaissance. He was a gifted pianist from a young age and became a pioneer of bebop. In this episode, Sherri and Chelsi welcome back Kimberly Jolly of Fat Quarter Shop to talk all about the Moonbeams Charity Quilt and Stitch Along. This year's Make-A-Wish charity quilt features Sherri and Chelsi's Strawberry Lemonade fabric. There is also a special navy print made especially for this quilt's background. This quilt pattern is free to anyone who wants to join along, but Kimberly hopes that everyone who gets the pattern will donate at least the cost of the pattern ($10) to the Make-A-Wish foundation. The quilt along will begin shortly after the Strawberry Lemonade fabric ships to stores. We anticipate it will begin in February or early March of 2024. Sherri and Chelsi also ask Kimberly about her sewing routines and how she manages her personal sewing, her business, and her family time. Kimberly then shares her insights on the current state of the quilting industry and discusses some trends she sees heading into the new year. PAUSE… Your breath fills with the night air, As you become one with the abyss. The moonbeams guide your spirit, In a celestial, divine, loving bliss.  PAUSE... The moonlight paints your dreams, With hues of silver and blue. Revealing mysteries and wonders, That the night has brought to you.  PAUSE… The stars are your companions, Guiding you with their light. As you journey through the cosmos, In a celestial, cosmic flight. PAUSE... Feel the magic in your bones, The stardust in your veins. You're a part of this dreamy symphony, Fully alight and unrestrained. PAUSE… Embrace the stillness of the night, And let your soul fly free. In the realm of stardust and moonbeams, There's more than you can possibly see.  LONG PAUSE... Rest now, In the cradle of the divine's embrace. As you drift off into slumber, Wrapped in a loving grace. PAUSE… Know that you are infinite, A child of the Universe divine. With stardust in your essence, And moonbeams in your shine. PAUSE... Embrace the magic of the night, Let it fill your heart and soul. Float through the galaxy of stars, You are eternally whole. LONG PAUSE... In the stillness of the night, You venture through the streams. Relaxed and fulfilled, Amongst the stardust and moonbeams. Namaste, Beautiful

What albums and songs are getting a lot of play on your Spotify or iTunes app currently? My guest would say that the music you put in heavy rotation comes down to your unique "listener profile."Her name is Susan Rogers, and she's a music producer-turned-neuroscientist as well as the co-author of This Is What It Sounds Like: What the Music You Love Says About You. Today on the show, Susan unpacks the seven dimensions of music and how they show up along a varying spectrum in every song. She explains how everyone has an individualized taste for the configuration of these dimensions, and that how closely a particular song aligns with this pattern of sweet spots accounts for whether you like it or not. Along the way, we discuss artists that exemplify these dimensions, how Frank Sinatra injected virility into his music, how part of your musical taste has to do with the way you prefer to move your body, and much more.Artists and Songs Mentioned in the EpisodePrince's Purple RainBarenaked LadiesThe ShaggsElla FitzgeraldThe RentalsThe KillersTame ImpalaSteven PageJohnny CashCakeJames Brown's "Hot Pants"Yes' "Roundabout"Pharrell Williams' "Happy"Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe"Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool and Kind of BlueFrank Sinatra's first hit song "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" (1940) vs. "It Was a Very Good Year" (1965)Connect With Susan RogersThe This Is What It Sounds Like website, including the "Record Pull"Susan's faculty page
