I got introduced to Jerry somewhere around 1997 probably. I knew Remco and he was the one who introduced me to Jerry at the infamous Nighttown venue in Rotterdam. We hit it off immediately as we soon found out we shared the same passion for music. Jerry made a series of tapes called “The Groove Collection”which really spoke to me on many musical levels. It was also around that time that I became the booker of Extrema and because of that I got involved on a deeper level in the musicscene in Holland. Late 1999 I released my first label, Deep records where I displayed a outspoke taste for what was called Progressive Housemusic. Jerry was in many ways involved in that. Whenever I got send something interesting by a producer he would be the first I would go to for advice as his taste of music was impeccable. One label became two, and two became more over the later years and always there would be Jerry to go to. Jerry was not a man of many words and somethimes we could spend an hour in the same room without talking and let the music do it for us. I remember holidays on Ibiza where we would rent a big villa with our friends and endulge ourselves in beach and nightlife. Great times! One day he came to me as he wanted to start his own label also so I helped him setting The Groove Collection up. And when it was time for me to go and leave the musicscene it was Jerry who continued my labels, who else?  This mix is pretty much an oldskool mix. A collection of records that ment a lot for jerry and myself. Some of the records come from my own labels, or Jerry's. By no means I see myself as a dj. Jerry was one and a damn good one. But for this mix it is not really important as this month it is already 4 years ago since Jerry left us, way too early. Think of him quite often and with great pleasure, hope you do the same if you happened to know him. Enjoy Life! A special version of my podcast, recorded April 13th, for "Nighttown Fest Radio" (aftaparty) Netherlands. During Nighttown Fest the love for muddy house music is central. We go back and forward with the feeling that you only live once and that you have to celebrate this life. We pick up the thread where we put it a few years ago. We had to grow up "even" but remained connected by the heartbeat at 126BPM of real house music. 5 000 Outdoor Single Day Event Netherlands FESTIVAL LINKS URL EVENT: www.nighttownfest.nl FACEBOOK EVENT: www.facebook.com/NightTownFest

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Share a pastrami sandwich with critically acclaimed horror writer/editor T. E. D. Klein as we discuss what he hated most about editing The Twilight Zone magazine, how he ended up scripting the screenplay for "the worst movie Dario Argento ever made," what eldritch action he took after buying a letter written by H. P. Lovecraft, which movie monster gave him the most nightmares, what he'll likely title his future autobiography, why he feels cheated by most horror movies, the secret origin of the T. E. D. Klein byline, his parents' friendship with (and the nickname they gave to) Stan Lee and his wife, what he learned (and what he didn't) when taught by Anthony Burgess, the bittersweet autograph he once obtained from John Updike, whether we're likely to see his long-awaited novel Nighttown any time soon, and much more.

On this final installment of the Mob Town Tour series, we visit Detroit, Cleveland and Toledo. In our first Mob Town episode we talked to Irv Williams, who at 98 years old, is still performing every week in his community. In our second, we talked to Dave Jemilo, the club owner from Chicago who has helped to shape the jazz scene in town. In our third chapter, we looked at jazz as regional music through the lens of Milwaukee. And today, we look at how the arts are the appetite for life, and how life on the road can change people. From the art deco elegance of Detroit’s Cliff Bells club, to the neighborhood charm of Cleveland’s Nighttown, to the pop up art collective Collingwood Art Center in Toledo (a converted convent), each city has its own unique arts community. Particularly in Detroit and Toledo, two cities that have been hit hard economically, the arts showed some of the first signs of renaissance. Music and art grow up through the cracks in the concrete, like wild flowers. In Cleveland we connected with saxophonist Richie Cole, a lifelong road warrior, who at 70 years old is finally tired of traveling. “I’m the luckiest guy I know,” he says. www.third-story.com
