How can we live without fear when suffering feels overwhelming? In this message, we see through the life of Darlene Deibler Rose that Christ's command to “fear not” calls us to trust the Lord more than our circumstances, feelings, or fears (Matthew 10:28). From the mission field of New Guinea to imprisonment under the Japanese during World War II, Darlene learned that Jesus could never be locked out, even from a death-row cell. Her testimony reminds us that God's promises are surer than our emotions, His presence is stronger than our terror, and His love casts out fear. As we fix our eyes on Christ, we too can walk by faith in the “evidence not seen,” trusting Him to keep us, sustain us, and use us for His glory.
What does it look like to stand for truth with both courage and gentleness? In this message, we are reminded through the life of William Wilberforce that Christ calls us to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16). Though surrounded by the spiritual darkness and injustice of the British slave trade, Wilberforce's heart was transformed by the gospel, and God used him to shine the light of Christ boldly in public life. Through years of opposition, criticism, and discouragement, he persevered in prayer, conviction, and compassion, trusting the Lord to bring lasting change. His life challenges us to faithfully stand for truth wherever God has placed us, relying not on our own strength but on Christ's wisdom and grace to reflect His love to a broken world.
How might God use one praying life to awaken many? In John Hyde's life, we see Christ's command to “Pray for Laborers” lived out through fervent intercession, sacrificial evangelism, and deep dependence on Jesus. We are reminded that revival is often won first in the secret place, where God gives His people His own burden for souls. May we draw near to Christ, pray with holy urgency, and go gladly into His harvest field.
Are we willing to hold fast to God's Word, even when it costs us something? We are reminded through the life of Martin Luther that true discernment begins with a heart anchored in Scripture, recognizing that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone—not by human effort. As God opened Luther's eyes to the gospel, he was compelled to stand against false teaching, not in pride, but in obedience to the truth, trusting God above man. His courage shows us that guarding against deception requires both conviction and humility. Therefore, we commit ourselves to test all things by Scripture, to stand faithfully for truth with grace and courage, and to live in such a way that Christ—not ourselves—is exalted, trusting that as we remain grounded in Him, He will guide us in truth and use our lives for His glory.

What does it truly mean to walk the narrow way, and are we willing to follow Christ even when it leads through suffering? We are reminded through the life of John Bunyan that the narrow way begins with entering through Christ alone—the only gate of salvation—and continues as a daily walk of obedience, fixing our eyes on Him. Though Bunyan faced imprisonment and hardship for his faithfulness, we see that God used those very trials to draw him into deeper communion and to produce lasting fruit, even through writings that continue to lead many to Christ. In this, we learn that affliction is not wasted but becomes a place where God reveals His presence and purposes more fully. Therefore, we commit ourselves to walk the narrow way with perseverance, trusting that as we remain faithful in both ease and trial, God will use our lives—however simple—for His glory and for the eternal good of others.
What does it truly mean to love others as Christ has loved us, and how far are we willing to go to live that out? We are reminded through the life of Mary Slessor that the call to “do unto others” is a call to sacrificial love—one that moves us beyond our comfort into compassionate action for others. From a life marked by hardship, she was transformed by Christ and sent to bring His light into deep darkness, rescuing the vulnerable, living among those she served, and giving herself wholly for their good. In her surrender, we see that such love is not possible in our own strength, but through dependence on God who leads and empowers us. Therefore, we commit ourselves to follow where He leads, to serve selflessly, and to reflect His heart to others—trusting Him with the results, and seeking to make our lives a melody of His grace in both the light and the dark places.
Since Babel, mankind has chased a self-made path to heaven—measuring life by achievement, control, and success. But Scripture teaches the opposite: the way to salvation is surrender. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef walks through Matthew 19:16–30, where the rich young ruler asks Jesus, “What good thing must I do to get eternal life?” (Matthew 19:16). Even after claiming obedience to the commandments, he still senses something missing: “What do I still lack?” (Matthew 19:20). His wealth, influence, and accomplishments couldn't satisfy the deeper hunger of his soul. Jesus exposes the real issue—not merely money, but the idol behind it. The ruler kept the law outwardly, yet had not humbled himself to yield everything to God. His grip on earthly treasure revealed his refusal to fully trust Christ for true spiritual riches. When confronted with surrender, he walked away sad—because he wasn't willing to release what he loved most. This devotional turns the question toward us: What are you unwilling to leave behind for the sake of Christ? What “treasure” are you holding so tightly that it keeps you from repentance, obedience, and joy-filled freedom? And it ends with Gospel hope: the Father gave what mattered most—His Son—and Jesus humbled Himself all the way to the cross so you could be forgiven, restored, and led into life you could never earn. Prayer: Lord, help me understand the infinite worth of life in Christ so that I do not cling to lesser idols. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things” (Philippians 3:8). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. What does it truly mean to ask, seek, and knock? Does God still answers prayer today? How does a life devoted to prayer shape not only our hearts, but the world around us? We are reminded through the life of E.M. Bounds that prayer is not merely a duty, but a powerful communion with God through which He accomplishes His purposes. In trials, hardship, and ministry, E.M. Bounds continually turned to the Lord, showing us that persistence in prayer—fervent, believing, and unceasing—invites the moving of God, even bringing revival in the most barren places. As we see that God works not through methods but through yielded lives, we are called to become people of prayer, seeking Him early, earnestly, and continually. Join us as Gabe helps us understand the life and impact of E.M. Bounds.
What does it mean to carry the gospel with both boldness and discernment? How can a life fully surrendered to Christ be used to reach even the hardest places and hearts? We are reminded through the life of Brother Andrew that obedience to Christ is not merely about zeal, but about walking in step with the Holy Spirit—sharing the precious Word with wisdom, timing, and love. From a life once bound in sin to one wholly yielded, we see that God delights to use those who depend on Him daily, whether in quiet moments of restraint or courageous acts of faith. As he carried the “pearl” of Scripture to those who longed for it, trusting God to open doors and blind opposing eyes, we are stirred to treasure that same Word and to share it faithfully. Therefore, we commit ourselves to live in daily obedience, seeking the Spirit's leading in every interaction, and trusting that as we follow Christ, He will guide us to bring His truth to a world in need—boldly, wisely, and for His glory. Join Gabe as he shares the exciting story of Brother Andrew.

Do we respond to hardship with bitterness or with faith? George Washington Carver's life shows us that when we seek the Creator for wisdom, He guides both our character and our calling. Born into slavery, Carver chose love over resentment, asking “the God who made the peanut” to reveal its purpose and using his discoveries to bless a broken South. In him we see that when we are born again (John 3:3), our work becomes worship and our lives become channels of healing grace.
What does it look like to seek God's kingdom first when the cost is real? Can we trust Christ with everything we love most? In John and Betty Stam, we see hearts wholly surrendered to Jesus, letting go of “little trinkets” for God's treasures, learning to depend on Him for daily needs, and choosing obedience over comfort. Sent to China, they loved even their enemies, faced captivity with peace, and confessed, “May God be glorified whether by life or by death.” Beheaded in 1934, they still bore witness that to die is gain (Phil. 1:21), and their sacrifice became a seed that stirred many to missions and reminded us that the Great Commission was never meant to be easy, only worth it in Christ.
What does it look like to say “no” to self and “yes” to Jesus in real life? In William Borden's short, bright life we see Christ's call to lay up treasures in heaven: though wealthy, admired, and full of opportunity, he chose surrender, loved the overlooked, poured himself into gospel work, and gave generously for missions. Setting his heart on reaching the unreached, he left comfort for Egypt to prepare for ministry to Muslims in China. Though he died at the age of 25 his legacy still preaches that a life yielded to Christ is never wasted.
In Oswald Chambers we see a life of unconditional surrender—saved under Spurgeon's preaching, yielded beyond his own plans, and shaped by long, hidden hours with God that fueled his public usefulness. Whether giving freely, fasting against the body's demands, or crawling into a lifeboat on a crowded wartime ship just to pray uninterrupted, he practiced the quiet disciplines that Christ rewards. Serving soldiers in Egypt, he spent himself for others even to the end, and through “Biddy's” faithful recording of his words, God has continued to call generations to “my utmost for His highest”—a reminder that the depth of our private communion with Jesus shapes the breadth of our witness in the world.
How does God use sorrow and loss to mature our faith? Can we trust Him day by day when His purposes are hidden in pain? We reflect on the life of Karolina Sandell-Berg as a living expression of Jesus' call in Matthew 5:48 to grow into spiritual maturity. Through frailty, suffering, and the sudden loss of her beloved father, Karolina turned to Christ rather than away from Him, allowing trials to deepen her trust in God's wise and loving care. From bitter waters, God brought sweet songs—most notably Day by Day—reminding us that the Lord uses hardship to perfect our faith, shaping us through suffering to rest in His promises until we stand with Christ at last.
Can Christ's love really overcome bitterness and transform even the darkest suffering? We reflect on the life of Jacob DeShazer as a powerful testimony to Jesus' command in Matthew 5:44, seeing how the gospel turned hatred into forgiveness and enemies into brothers. Captured, tortured, and imprisoned during WWII, DeShazer encountered Christ through Scripture, and the love of Jesus changed his heart from vengeance to compassion. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, he not only forgave his captors but returned to Japan to proclaim salvation, showing us that loving our enemies is possible only because Christ first loved us when we were His enemies.
Have you ever wondered how believers like Moses kept going when they felt overwhelmed—or how Paul stayed steady when criticism, threats, and hardship pressed in? In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef addresses discouragement head-on and reminds you that even great heroes of the faith faced deep disappointment. Paul certainly knew what it meant to feel pressure—even the threat of death—yet he refused to quit because his eyes were fixed on Jesus, his source of strength and unshakable hope. When you're doing what God has called you to do, the world and the enemy often push back. But this devotional will encourage you to resist the voices of harassment, refuse to give up, and remember that God's definition of victory isn't worldly fame or financial success—it's faithful obedience. Dr. Youssef also points you to the reality of an eternal inheritance—a reward kept in heaven—and the “crown of life” promised to those who love the Lord. If you've been tempted to quit, this episode will help you trade short-term discouragement for long-term perspective and renewed courage to proclaim Christ's love and forgiveness to a dying world. Prayer: Father, help me look to You—my utmost treasure—when I am facing discouragement and disappointment. You are my very great reward, and I know I have nothing to fear because You have overcome the world. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Today's MY Devotional has been provided by Leading The Way. What does it look like to go the second mile? Are we willing to say yes to God even when we feel unqualified or afraid? We reflect on the life of Gladys Aylward as a living picture of Christ's command in Matthew 5:38–42, showing sacrificial love beyond obligation. An ordinary woman by the world's standards, she relied wholly on Christ, and through her willingness God brought hope, protection, and the gospel to suffering people in China. Her life reminds us that going the second mile is not about our strength or credentials, but about a heart surrendered to Jesus, trusting Him to work through our willingness for His glory and the blessing of others.
How should we live now so that we will have no regrets later? As we look at the life of Jonathan Edwards who modeled living with integrity and eternity in view, grounded in Jesus' words from Matthew 5:37. Relying on Christ rather than self-effort, Edwards sought to be a man of his word, shaping his life, ministry, and perseverance through trial. In a time of spiritual coldness, God used his faithfulness to bring a great awakening, reminding us that when we depend on Christ, He empowers us to live truthfully and use our lives for His glory.
Do we live with integrity when no one is watching? Are our private thoughts and habits aligned with the holiness Christ commands? Billy Graham, one of the most recognized evangelists in history, sought not only to preach Christ but to live in a way that honored Him. Billy Graham built his life and ministry on integrity. Through daily time in God's Word, reliance on the Holy Spirit, and personal safeguards like the Modesto Manifesto, he guarded his heart and walk from moral failure. Though not perfect, he pursued holiness with sincerity, striving to be the same man in private as in public. His life reminds us that lasting impact flows from a life surrendered to Christ, lived with purity, humility, and devotion.
Are we living Christ, not just preaching Him? Robert Chapman, called “the saintliest man” by Charles Spurgeon, lived a quiet yet powerful life marked by humility, love, and a deep commitment to live for Christ. He gave up personal rights, pursued unity without compromise, and served the poor and the lost with Christlike love. His life reminds us that true gospel witness flows not from fame, but from faithfully living Christ before others.
If you're trying to grow closer to Jesus and keep hitting resistance, you're not alone—and you're not failing. In today's MY Devotional, Dr. Michael Youssef shows why obstacles are part of the journey of faith and how your response to them can either stifle spiritual growth or strengthen it.You'll learn the three common blockers that quietly weaken intimacy with Christ:An inability to accept correction — A teachable heart is a clear sign of maturity. How you respond when a godly believer points out blind spots reveals a lot about your love for Jesus. An unwillingness to change — Sanctification means continual growth. The moment we stop changing, we step into spiritual danger.Confusing the journey for the destination — Are you living as a citizen of this world with a passing interest in heaven, or as a citizen of heaven passing through this world? (Philippians 3:20–21)This episode will help you reframe spiritual resistance, recognize what's holding you back, and pursue Jesus with renewed focus—right where you are.Scripture Focus: Colossians 1:9–10 The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. How do we run our race with full surrender to Christ? Eric Liddell's life answers this question and many more with quiet strength and unwavering faith. Known for refusing to run on a Sunday at the 1924 Olympics, Eric honored God's law above worldly praise, trusting Christ by his obedience. His gold medal in the 400m became a testimony to God's faithfulness. But Eric's race didn't end on the track—he gave his life as a missionary in China, serving others with humility and joy until his final breath. His last words, “It's full surrender,” remind us that true greatness is found in yielding wholly to Jesus. Let us run our race likewise—looking unto Him (Hebrews 12:1–2).
Are we willing to let our light shine wherever God places us? In Amy Carmichael's life, we see the radiant fulfillment of Christ's command: “Let your light so shine before men…” (Matthew 5:16). From the streets of Belfast to the orphanages of India, she lived with an eternal focus, burning with a holy love that served, rescued, and sacrificed. Whether walking in open fields or confined to a sickbed, she never ceased to shine, trusting God to use every trial for His glory. May we, too, be faithful to shine for Christ to the very end.
How can we rejoice when suffering for Christ? Richard Wurmbrand's life answers that question with powerful clarity. Tortured and imprisoned for his faith under Communist rule, he chose to obey Christ's command: “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad” (Matthew 5:12). His example calls us to turn toward Jesus in our trials, not away. Like Wurmbrand, may we find strength to rejoice not just in ease, but in the presence of the living Savior who gives joy amid tribulation.
How can God use a weak and broken life for His glory? What does it mean to truly follow Christ? In this episode, we reflect on the life of David Brainerd, a frail and often melancholy man who wholeheartedly obeyed Jesus' call: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Despite sickness, loss, and rejection, Brainerd chose hardship over ease, taking the gospel to unreached Native American tribes. Through deep prayer and dependence on Christ, he witnessed powerful revival and lasting fruit. His legacy, preserved in his journals, has inspired generations. Like Brainerd, may we follow Christ with our whole hearts and pray to be used beyond what we are.
What does daily repentance look like for the believer? From slave trader to pastor and hymn writer, John Newton's life shows us that repentance isn't just for salvation, but for sanctification. After his dramatic conversion, Newton continued turning from sin and growing in Christ being transformed by grace. His life of ongoing repentance reminds us that we are great sinners but Christ is a greater Savior.
What does it mean to truly abide in Christ? Hudson Taylor's life answers this through his deep reliance on Jesus. Once striving in his own strength, Taylor came to realize that fruitfulness flows only from resting in Christ. His life bore lasting impact as he founded the China Inland Mission and helped bring the gospel to thousands. His story reminds us that the Christian life is not about what we do for Christ, but what He does through us as we abide in Him.
In this stirring new season of the Commands of Christ Podcast, we move from principle to practice—tracing the commands of Jesus through the lives of men and women who lived them out with passion, humility, and dependence on Him. Christ's Commands in Action invites us into the stories of ordinary individuals throughout church history who, by God's grace, lived extraordinary lives marked by obedience to the Word of Christ. From well-known names like Hudson Taylor and George Müller to lesser-known saints whose quiet faith shaped generations, each biographical sketch highlights a specific command of Jesus, showing what it looks like to put His Word into action. More than historical recollection, this season is a call to follow Christ as others have before us—not by exalting people, but by glorifying the power and presence of God working through flawed, but faithful vessels. These testimonies build our faith, exalt the risen Christ, and offer practical encouragement for how we too can walk as His disciples today. As we explore a new life each week, we'll be reminded that the same Christ who empowered them is alive in us—and that His commands are not just to be studied, but lived.

Mullen's mentorship. He shares his pivotal moment at 11, choosing America's Got Talent over a Belize trip, becoming a finalist and facing the lure of secular success.Despite giving glory to God on the show, he admits to running from his calling, wanting freedom to chase his own desires while still loving Jesus.[05:41] God Redeems Quintavius's Childhood ExperiencesQuintavius reveals how international fame from America's Got Talent was misused for self-interest, a pattern God is now redeeming for His glory.[5:41] Quintavious: “After I fully submitted to Him, got saved, filled the Holy Ghost again, He now has allowed me to redeem that he is redeemed again. Now I was on the national, international stage, and I am making his name great, and it's for the purpose of God.”He opens up about misunderstood spiritual gifts—like seeing visions—initially confusing them for demonic or medium-like experiences due to lack of guidance.A turning point came when he surrendered fully to Christ, allowing God to refine these gifts for prophetic ministry and deliverance of others.Reagan connects this to listeners, noting how God's protection kept Quintavius from darker paths, now using his platform to win souls.[20:50] Demonic Torment During Early YearsQuintavius claims to have had chilling encounters with demons in elementary and middle school, like beds shaking and hearing hoof-like footsteps, fueling a spirit of fear. The enemy exploited his ignorance, tormenting him with nightmares and voices urging harm, aiming to silence his future calling.Quintavius credits the Holy Spirit for guiding him to fast and pray—sometimes for weeks—leading to physical deliverance, like vomiting out demonic influences. He mentions influential figures like Alexander Pagani and his pastor Shelley Morrison, whose teachings and hugs broke spiritual chains.Dreams once filled with torment became tools of deliverance as he rejected demonic offers in sleep, waking up free by God's power.[32:54] Bringing His Spiritual Gifts to the World StageQuintavius reluctantly joined American Idol after receiving persistent invitations. He sang “Alabaster Box” for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. He felt the song was a powerful movement—Katy cried, Lionel claimed he felt God's presence, and Luke likened it to a baptism—shifting the show's atmosphere.Behind the scenes, revival broke out: crew members and contestants got saved, atheists turned to Christ, and the theme changed from gladiators to classmates.[37:38] Quintavious: “They literally started calling it revival. It was such a revival of the love of God and of the power of the Holy Ghost that people want to get more.”Quintavious' performances are on his Instagram, demonstrating how his worship visibly carried the Holy Spirit to impact thousands.[42:28] God's Permission, or God's Plan?Quintavius reflects on a misstep during American Idol; he chose a song God permitted but didn't ordain, learning that lawful actions aren't always in line with God's wishes.Despite the permission, not following God's exact plan halted his progression. He learned to prioritize precise obedience over rationalized choices.[49:19] Reagan: “God's opening doors, well, why? Because you've been faithful, you've screwed up. He's the God of second chances.”He shares how God still redeemed this, as a viral “12 Days of Christmas” video in December 2024 brought greater reach than the show, saving lives and opening doors.[52:53] Staying Faithful to God's Call TodayQuintavius stresses prayer, fasting, and staying rooted in Scripture to balance his dual presence in gospel and secular spheres, keeping his focus on God's assignment. He credits his local church community for grounding him, offering safety in counsel and keeping pride at bay as his influence grows.[53:31] Quintavious: “I stay faithful to my church community. Having a community around you is important, you know, the multitude of counsel, there is safety.”His mission bridges worlds, bringing salvation to both gospel artists who don't live it and secular folks unaware of Jesus, acting as a “secret agent” for the Kingdom.Quintavius envisions God deepening his intimacy with the Spirit and expanding his ministry globally, not just in industry fame but in soul-winning across nations. He sees himself growing as a leader in the body of Christ, shaped by ongoing lessons in manhood and stewardship of his gifts. His local church remains vital, providing covering and training—like casting out demons in outreach—keeping him humble and accountable.[1:00:49] Encouraging the LonelyQuintavius encourages trusting God over self, rejecting the lie of isolation. God has a community for everyone. He advises praying for revelation of that community, warning against the enemy's tactic to isolate and confuse through lack of guidance. The body of Christ is collective, not solitary, and finding a church or group stirs gifts and offers support.Reagan prays for Quintavius, asking for strategic discernment, protection, and boldness to spread the gospel worldwide through his voice.Quintavius requests prayer to steward his transition well, avoiding procrastination and aligning with God's will as his influence rises.About QuintaviousQuintavius Johnson is a worship and gospel singer, prophetic minister, and dynamic voice for God's Kingdom, celebrated for his powerful testimony and anointed performances.
