The memoir is a fascinating form to explore. I'm always intrigued as to how an author can adapt their life and fit it into the confines of a page. How does one capture all its complexities, contradictions, and fleeting moments, in a narrative that feels both honest and coherent? My guest today is Susanna Crossman, a British-French writer, essayist, and clinical arts therapist, who has just published Home is Where We Start with Penguin Random House. The book is her own account of growing up in ‘the fallout of the Utopian Dream' – in a politically revolutionary Community in the late 1970s. In the fascinating work, she blends memoir and social commentary, weaving philosophical ideas into the wider narrative of her own experiences with community and disillusionment. It was great talking with Susanna today, and I'm so pleased to be able to share her insightful, nuanced thoughts about literature in general. Susanna has recently started a Substack, which you can check out here. Susanna Crossman's four books were: On The Banks of Plum Creek, Laura Ingalls Wilder (1937) The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Milan Kundera (1984) Memoirs of Hadrian, Marguerite Yourcenar (1951) What is Ancient Philosophy?, Pierre Hadot (1995) Lit with Charles loves reviews. If you enjoyed this episode, I'd be so grateful if you could leave a review of your own, and follow me on Instagram at @litwithcharles. Let's get more people listening – and reading!
Nebraska defeated Purdue 28-10 Saturday, and boy howdy, is there a lot of complaining about a team that is 4-1 so far on the season. So much negativity. Granted, it was an ass ugly first half of football, but in the end Nebraska ended up soundly beating Purdue. The Blackshirt defense held them to only 50 yards rushing, 174 yards passing, and 10 points. That's a pretty decent outing. We will review Purdue, taking your questions and comments, BUT more importantly, Rutgers guy Greg Patuto from our Rutgers site On The Banks will join us to talk about the Scarlet Knights. They're 4-0, having just defeated Washington in their Big Ten opener. It was a weird game. Washington ran for 207 yards, passed for 314, far surpassing Rutgers' offense, but still lost the game. How and why does that happen? We'll have many questions for the Rutgers guy, and you'd better bring some yourself.

And after a perfect 6-0 start to the campaign, things have gone a little bit south for Steve Pikiell and company. So how do the Scarlet Knights turn things around? There is no better person to answer that question than Aaron Breitman, the managing editor of On The Banks. Aaron details what Rutgers needs to do to flip the script and reach its eventual goal: earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly three decades. Against all odds, the Buckeye Sports Bulletin podcast has emerged once more to produce a preview episode, this time recorded primarily on Wyatt's day off from his apartment, because the grind truly never stops. After a brief introduction and some news, we jump into our interview with On The Banks managing editor Aaron Breitman to talk about Greg Schiano, Noah Vedral and Rutgers, including what it will take for the Scarlet Knights to put a dent in Ohio State's suit of armor. Post-interview, it's prediction time again, as well as a quick look at some key matchups and three players to watch on each team. I don't remember the predictions that we made, so you're just going to have to listen to the show to find out because I absolutely will not go back and check. I'm pretty confident that we both picked Ohio State to win. After wrapping on OSU-Rutgers talk, it is unfortunately time to discuss the Cleveland Browns, before taking a look at your college football games of the week, and picking against the spread in the Big Ten. Lastly, Bucks Box makes its triumphant return! If you're interested in subscribing to Buckeye Sports Bulletin, give BSB a call at 614-486-2202 and say that the podcast sent you.
