M.B. Paradise has always been a fan of stories, Santa, and the beach… so combining the three made perfect sense. A chance encounter on the beach with her children over 10 years ago with a man who looked like Santa Claus gave her the idea to one day write a book. As it were however, life got in the way and the idea was put on the back burner until, she discovered that Eric LeGrand was opening a coffee shop. M.B. had always been inspired by his positivity and fortitude following his spinal cord injury, and felt that if he could open his own business, then she had to "stop talking and start DOING", and that meant finishing her Beach Santa book. As an independent author, M.B. knew it would be important to tie Beach Santa to something bigger than itself. Her humble hope is to share the story, promote children's literacy, advocate for disability inclusion in children's books, encourage writers of all ages, AND make a significant contribution to the SCI community. In fact, 25% of Beach Santa profits will be donated to Team LeGrand, which is dedicated to supporting the over six million people living with paralysis through quality-of-life initiatives and supporting research for spinal cord injuries. M.B. has climbed in the Rockies, barely survived two NYC marathons, currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and three daughters, and is my guest on this week's episode!

On a bike ride on an open road in New Jersey in 2011, Ron Gold was struck head-on by an SUV whose driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel even though it was the middle of the day. He barely survived, suffering critical injuries, and was left a paraplegic. It was bad enough the driver was totally unapologetic about causing this tragic event. Ron spent many months in rehab, not to mention wrestling with feelings of despair and hopelessness. After he finally got back home, one thing he learned, which you would likely never find out otherwise, is how challenging it is to find a reliable home health care provider. Ron and I are fellow alumni of the University of Pennsylvania, and leveraging the business acumen he had gleaned both there and in his Wall Street jobs, Ron and his wife Betsy, who had encouraged him to find purpose in his life despite his situation, founded and run LeanOnWe. This organization serves to help pair people in the New York Tri-State area who need home healthcare with screened providers, as well as enable those providers to receive a livable wage, which is often a barrier to many remaining in the profession. LeanOnWe innovatively addresses both of these shortcomings, and has now matched more than 1900 individuals with providers. In the meantime, Ron has charged back in to the athletic world, in both para-rowing, in which he has competed in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, and as a marathoner using a handcycle, where he is roughly horizontal to the ground and “pedals” with his arms. He completed the Hartford Marathon in 2:56, and then improved to 2:42 at the New York City Marathon. Along the way, he has helped the fundraising efforts of Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers football player who was paralyzed in 2010 and is now an inspiring entrepreneur himself. Ron's efforts have helped raise more than $36,000 for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to aid paralysis research and treatment. Ron's story will inspire you how he pushed back against very dark times in his life, found a purpose, and had he not done that, the impacts on others that never would have been possible.Ron GoldLeanOnWe.comrongold@leanonwe.comwww.RonGold.livesubstack.com/@rongoldInstagram and Threads @the_ronniegFacebook and LinkedIn Ron GoldBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast

We want to do a golf makeover with Jerry. Jerry returns for an update but first he is named NJ Italian Sportscaster of the Year presented by the NJ legislature. The Yankees won again thanks to another great performance by Luis Gil. Aaron RODGERS was on with Adam Schein and said love him or hate him, people like to watch him play football. Stephen A. Smith wants time off and does not want long NBA series. In the final segment of the hour, Gio is playing guitar with the band.  Hour 4 Boomer is not going to the Rangers game tonight, instead he's watching from home with his phone on silent. We will have to wait and see if Matt Rempe will be in the lineup. If he's in, somebody has to come out. Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first Gio pumps up the crowd with some D'Jais dance music. We talked about the times we've seen Boomer drunk. Not often at all, but always memorable. Jerry does a brief preview of tonight's games including the Rangers, Mets and Yankees. While the initial prognosis was grim, Eric demonstrated his titan strength by shattering all expectations for his recovery and rehabilitation. Eric harnessed the national spotlight he attracted from his injury to give back to the community and inspire those living with and impacted by paralysis to bELieve. Team LeGrand was launched in September 2013 as a fundraising arm for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Since its inception, Team LeGrand has raised well over two million dollars for the Reeve Foundation. During his time as a participant of the Reeve Foundation's NeuroRecovery Network, he took part in a rigorous rehabilitation regime, including locomotor training, to re-teach his body how to walk and improve his quality of life. Eric has since regained movement in his shoulders and improvements to his overall health. From becoming an author, sports analyst for ESPN, Sirius, the Big Ten Network and Rutgers radio, to a much sought after motivational speaker, Eric has given a voice to the paralysis community to mobilize support for critical initiatives, policies and cutting-edge research. He has been recognized and received awards by Sports Illustrated, ESPY Awards, and the WWE Hall Of Fame. He also realized his NFL dream when his college coach and then Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Greg Schiano, signed him to a professional contract in 2012. In May 2014, Eric graduated from Rutgers University where he was an honored speaker at the commencement ceremony. Since his injury, Eric has shown the world that obstacles can be transformed into opportunities, and he will continue to drive his mission forward until he delivers on Christopher Reeve's dream of a world with empty wheelchairs. Today's Episode is from the 2021 "Believe" Clinic presented by the New Jersey Football Coaches Association. In this episode, Coach Schiano shares simple advice for the head coach and the assistant coach. In his recent experiences he's been in both positions and came to a clear understanding of what each position needs to do to best support the other. What is the Believe Clinic and Who is Eric LeGrand? On October 16, 2010 at MetLife stadium, Eric LeGrand ran down on a kick off for Rutgers and didn't walk off the field. He couldn't move. He couldn't breathe, and Coach Schiano came out on the field knelt and looked down at Eric and said, “Pray.” Becoming paralyzed playing the game he loved didn't change his passion for the game or the lessons he had taken from it. It provided him the courage and inspiration to go out into the world and do more. Eric has shown the world that obstacles can be transformed into opportunities, and he will continue to drive his mission forward until he delivers on Christopher Reeve's dream of a world with empty wheelchairs. To Eric, it is not matter of if he walks again, but rather when. To help Eric on his mission, Coach Schiano, the Rutgers staff, and the New Jersey Football Coaches Association have launched the virtual “Believe” Clinic with all proceeds to benefit "The Christopher Reeves Foundation" on behalf of Eric LeGrand. Show Notes: -Unique perspective of being a head coach, then assistant and head coach -What is the job of a head coach? -Communicate a crystal clear vision -Too much culture -Most teams/organizations can't communication their culture -PAR (Post Action Reporting) -#1 job of assistant coach -Give the head coach your opinion -3 time rule -Learning from Coach Pattern -“Paul Revere” the head coach and the rest of the staff Attend the 2022 Virtual "Believe" Clinic: https://njfca2022.coachesclinic.com/ Related: Episode with Eric LeGrand: https://soundcloud.com/user-804678956/eric-legrand-a-mission-bigger-than-the-game-and-the-njfca-believe-clinic The Law of Three - Greg Schiano: https://soundcloud.com/user-804678956/the-law-of-three-greg-schiano-head-coach-rugters-university
