Hablamos con Víctor Domínguez, director del Slap! Festival, que en su decimotercera edición volverá a su espacio tradicional: el Camping Municipal de Zaragoza. Este año se celebrará del 14 al 16 de julio y contará con las actuaciones de Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, Eskorzo, Orkesta Mendoza, Nanpa Básico y Miss Bolivia, entre otros.

This months Hidden Shadows is highly focused on the Accordion - as a preperation for a new club night/concert series in Oslo were this particular instrument is explored in every thinkable way. After an hour with off piste cumbia and the likes we'll dig down into slower beats and the more mysterious vibes the accordionists from different parts of the musical spectre have offered - through Tomáš Dvořák, Dennis Veijers, Eric Vloeimans and Will Holshouser, Marc Berthoumieux, Madvillain, Jrpjej, Beltuner, Les Mains Tendres, Antura Musica, Orkesta Mendoza and compositions by Philip Glass.

Drummer, percussionist, and multi-instrumentalist Elizabeth Goodfellow has built a career for herself out of playing with an ever-growing number of innovative artists. You may have seen her onstage or heard her on records by Iron and Wine, Madison Cunningham, Calexico, Orkesta Mendoza, the indie-pop supergroup called boygenius made up of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, the New York-based jazz ensemble The Hot Sardines, and the recently multiple Grammy-nominated Allison Russell. She brings a creative approach and a studied work ethic to her collaborations that are rare in the music industry, and indeed nearly any other discipline. When you're as good as Goodfellow is, people take notice – and it's the kind of devotion to her craft that earned her a feature in Modern Drummer magazine in 2018. And if that's not enough, she has more recently added the titles of singer, songwriter, and composer to her impressive list of talents. Her compositions feature the marimba, angular vocal melodies, and personally fearless lyrics, as well as exploring the creative possibilities of audio looping and sampling technology in a whole new way. Utilizing the ability to layer sounds in real time during a performance, it would be easy to overlook the degree of difficulty in Goodfellow's mesmerizing percussive soundscapes. But go ahead and get lost in her songs. It's a hell of a ride and it's worth every mallet strike. She released a vinyl single in 2021 called “Terror and Trust,” a title that could serve as a mission statement for her unique and courageous approach to making music. She makes it look easy, but it is assuredly not.

Drawn to the desert enclave of Tucson for its diverse music scene, Saul Millan and Caleb Michel joined their considerable talents to distill their mutual love of Latin American pop, jazz, and cultural music into the distinct sounds of Los Esplifs. Since 2018 they've recorded and released two albums and several EPs, all the while spreading the Los Esplifs philosophy by sitting in with local legends like Calexico and Orkesta Mendoza. She describes new works composed by Jay Vosk, Russell Ronnebaum of Rogue Theater, Samantha Bounkeua of Rogue Violin, Dante Rosano of Two-Door Hatchback, and Marco Rosano of Orkesta Mendoza. Cassandra talks about this particular instrument and what drew her to it. We also have a conversation about impostor syndrome, (feelings of inadequacy that persist--despite success), and how she learned to take on challenges, even when (especially when) they scare her. Cassandra also talks about her artistic trajectory and her advice for emergent musicians today. Destacan las colaboraciones de lujo con artistas como La Yegros, Calexico, Orkesta Mendoza, Lorna, Toots Hibert, Sly & Robbie y Adan Jodorowsky. Hace algunos días y aprovechando las fechas en España se ha publicado ‘Cruzando el Rio’ la nueva canción IMS esta vez en colaboración con Joe Crespúsculo. Arriba ací la segona crònica pirineica de Pirineos Sur dedicada a tres grups que vam veure en el cicle "Amanecer Latino": Orkesta Mendoza, Kumbia Queers i Ifé. Conversem amb els líders de cadascuna de les formacions que ens parlen de les seues composicions. Acabem amb un tema de Youssou N'Dour. Especial Future Beats sobre la XXVI edición del festival Pirineos Sur. Charlamos con el director artístico, Luis Lles, sobre la exquisita programación que acerca artistas internacionales al municipio de Huesca, poniendo especial atención a las propuestas que emegen desde el continente latinoamericano. Antes y después de la charla, escuchamos a Imelda May, Tinariwen, Orkesta Mendoza, ÌFÉ, Pascuala Ilabaca, El Remolón y Throes + The Shine.

Tres festivales de verano protagonizan esta edición. Avanzamos la programación “Amanecer latino” de Pirineos Sur (del 14 al 30 de julio en Lanuza y Sallent de Gállego, Huesca), a través de las músicas de Diego el Cigala, Franco Battiato y la Orkesta Mendoza. Mísia encabeza el cartel 2017 de la 26 edición del Festival Música al Castell (del 20 al 23 de julio, Dénia, Alicante), presentará nuevo proyecto, “Del primer fado al último tango”. Completamos el programa con los Conciertos de Viveros de Valencia, nos centramos en los conciertos del malí Salif Keita y el dúo instrumental estadounidense Chick Corea & Béla Fleck.

La agenda de festivales y conciertos, y las novedades son el hilo conductor de este programa. Repasamos las programaciones de Womad Cáceres (Orkesta Mendoza), Etnomusic Valencia (Ramiro Naka) y Murcia Tres Culturas (Gabacho Marroc). Entre la selección de novedades que traemos hoy destacan “Afrolailo” de Marinah, “From Dawn to Dust” de Ghost Number and his Tipsy Gypsies, “Genau!” de Bard Drom Orkestar y, cerrando “Zona temporalmente autónoma” de Los Planetas.

El Remolón presenta Senderos (Discos Fértil), su nuevo álbum en Future Beats. Le entrevista Darío Manrique: "La portada ya es una invitación al contenido, ilustra los senderos que históricamente condujeron lo folclórico y lo popular, la conexión entre lo sagrado, la tradición y la modernidad. No hay nada más popular que la cumbia villera pero ahora la cultura urbana se nutre de ello. El paso del martillo al cable USB".Estrena su álbum en su nuevo sello, Discos Fértil: "Mi relación con ZZK es formidable pero quería hacer algo propio. Es la manera de compartir entre diversos artistas nuevos proyectos, respaldar los nuevos valores y hacerlo siempre sin caer en lo obvio. Es un intento, con toda la dificultad que implica, de trabajar de forma comunitaria y horizontal. No se puede pasar por encima de la subjetividad del artista".Hoy como es lógico no podemos pasar por alto la desaparición de Leonard Cohen y le homenajeamos abriendo el programa con una de las dos interpretaciones que realizó en directo Bob Dylan en 1988 de Hallelujah.Además estrenamos los nuevos trabajos de Astrio, Ondatrópica, Santiago Córdoba, Orkesta Mendoza y Jim James.
