It's just over a year since we lost Pop Smoke, and he is deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans. He was an amazing prolific artist who was destined to do some incredible things. Born and raised in Brooklyn, the spirit of that classic New York Hip Hop feeling permeated throughout his music. He was immediately embraced, respected, and revered across the world, especially in cities such as London, Paris, and Sydney. From the very start of his career he was bridging cultures, and pushing boundaries. Sharing his journey with new artists and producers, whilst at the same time evolving the art-form. For this episode of the 'Hip Hop Raised Me' podcast DJ Semtex felt it was his duty to do something special to celebrate his artistry. When he signed Pop Smoke to his 'Victor Victor' label, there was no doubt that Pop Smoke was going to have an illustrious career. But most people don't realise the extent of the journey that was taken. The depth of their working relationship, the events that led to Pop's ascension as an artist; the planning, attention to deal, the creative process, and the relentless persistence to pursue their shared vision. We also talk about him being an unofficial member of Little Brother, Alligator Boots, Common's new album, Charles Hamilton and much more. The whole interview went where no other Rhymefest interview will. Consequence has a new album, "ConsTV", on the way, executively produced by his mentor Kayne West and his cousin Q Tip.
