Well, we made our way through The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E3, we're half way there! This episode brought a few fun surprises, a flurry of new characters and a hefty smattering of loose ends.  There is absolutely no way that this show can resolve itself in any sort of satisfying way, in only 3 more episodes, but godspeed to the writers. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier S1 E3 provides us more insight into the motivations of the Flag Smashers and leaves us grappling with who we really should to be rooting for (not a point that we entirely agree on).  We also meet a few powerhouse ladies and dive into the different aspects of representation Marvel is infusing in each episode. In our "shows worth mentioning" segment, Brennan brings a recap of all of the Animated Oscar Shorts and I brought my perspective on this terrible little mini-doc The Last Cruise. SARIA explores the unimaginable hardships faced by young female orphans at the Virgen de La Asuncion Safe Home in Guatemala, leading up to the tragic fire which claimed 41 of their lives in 2017. We follow the story of two inseparable orphaned sisters - Saria 12, and her sister Ximena 14, as they fight against mounting daily physical abuse at the very institution designed to protect them. In the sisters' desperation for survival, they devise a daring plan of escape for all the orphans to find freedom in America. SARIA is premiering at the 2020 Oscar Shorts. Director’s Biography: the New York times has dubbed Oscar-Nominee Bryan Buckley the "king of the Super Bowl,” having directed over 60 commercials for the big game since 2000. in 2013, Buckley wrote and directed the short film ASAD, which received an academy award nomination for “Best live action Short Film” and was cited by archbishop Desmund Tutu in a speech as having helped stem xenophobia in his country. Buckley then followed up his short with two feature films - the 2015 Sundance Film Festival opener, THE BRONZE, and THE PIRATES OF SOMALIA, which had its world premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. A 2010 Adweek Readers Poll named Buckley the commercial Director of the Decade - he was also named one of the 50 best Creative Minds in the last 25 years by Creativity Magazine. Buckley is an esteemed recipient of the DGA award, multiple Emmys, and over 50 Cannes lions. Most recently, he won the 2019 Cannes Grand prix for his work on MARCH FOR OUR LIVES “GENERATION LOCKDOWN,” done in support of the S.42 Background Check Expansion Act.

Plus, we kinda scream & yell like we’re still living in 2005 over Brad & Jennifer & that hug. We’re sorry that we’re not sorry. Our Best Picture discussion comes in two parts during this episode as we discuss the SAG Ensemble win from Parasite, and later on, we break down the PGA Award for 1917. How do we power rank the Best Picture nominees? What must Once Upon A Time In Hollywood do at the BAFTA’s? Or is 1917 gonna run away with the year? Do let us know your thoughts on this as well. The SAG’s also seemed to lock up all four of the acting categories. So...ummm… yeah, we’re gonna have to get creative with how we do our next 3 acting category overview pods. But we do discuss some crossover stats on all of the SAG & PGA wins throughout this episode to make our points, and they do seem pretty definitive here. We discuss all of the winners from the Producer Guild of America Awards, you get the rest of our Best Picture discussion, and then we also talk about Animated Feature amongst other wins. Finally, the ACE EDDIE’s editing awards were announced, and Parasite continued to surge with it’s big win there. I talked with 3 of the Oscar nominated filmmakers, starting with Guy Nattiv from "Skin", Jeremy Comte from "Fauve", and Marshall Curry from "A Night at the Garden".  Today's collection of films are all incredibly intense films with powerful themes and messages. I talked with each of the filmmakers about how their films stories came about, how Marshall learned about the Night at the Garden, the acting choices made in the films, the messages they hope are taken away from their films and so much more! Marshall Curry recently made the news with "A Night at the Garden" when Fox News refused to play his 30 second trailer.  The Oscar Shorts are still playing in theaters around the country, as well as on the Oscar Shorts TV. All 15 films nomianted in the short film categories are absolutely incredible and I've had a wonderful time talking to all of these great filmmakers. This is the final part of our 3 part Oscar Shorts coverage and we can't begin to thank all of these Oscar Nominated Directors enough for their time. A special thanks to Guy Nattiv, Jeremy Comte, and Marshall Curry for taking the time out of their incredibly busy schedule. Don't miss their films as part of the Oscar Shorts Program.  Best of luck to all of our guests at the Oscars this Sunday! Enjoy the episode!
