Ever since Super Mario Bros. hit the NES in 1985, Nintendo's red cap wearing mustachioed hero has reigned supreme as a prominent face for his company Nintendo and video games as a whole. With the introduction of Mario and its success came a new sub-genre of video games, dubbed the “mascot platformer” in which a colorful character would hop, run and swim his way through vast and colorful worlds filled with Unique characters and challenges that await the player upon popping in a cartridge. Although the success rate of this video game genre can be hit or miss, we can never dismiss their involvement throughout our gaming experiences growing up and more importantly the Music that these games provided us within each new world we encountered. In Episode 39, I have a brief, but insightful conversation with Lobo senior wing Makuach Maluach. Due to the state of New Mexico's public health order, the senior from Australia is about to play his "Senior Night" game at the U.S. Air Force Academy for the Lobos final "home" game of the season -- 400 miles north of the Pit, where he quietly etched his name deep into Lobo record books. We talk about his future (will he come back with the NCAA not counting this season against player eligibility?), the past (the bond he formed with teammates in that 2017-18 freshman season), the time he asked Paul Weir on a recruiting call to call back because he was busy working, and a lot more. Maluach is one of my favorite Lobos I've covered. Hope you enjoy the brief talk we had.

For ST2's third episode, I specifically wanted to explore something more up-to-date. No Man's Sky's soundtrack is among the best received VGM OSTs of the past few years, and that's even more impressive considering the game's initial negative reception. Though the title itself has been updated numerous times, significantly warming people's perceptions in the process, 65daysofstatic's great music remains intact. In this podcast, I'm joined by one of the band's principle members - Paul Wolinski - for a long talk about No Man's Sky's infinite music machine. We discuss how an electronic and post-rock band has to adapt to composing video game music, and some of the challenges that come with the process. I also spoke to Paul Weir, who was heavily involved in the design and implementation of the systems that govern the soundtrack. He also helmed the game's sound effects and creature vocals, which we talk about in a dedicated section.Between the two Pauls, this is a truly detailed episode that I hope does justice to No Man's Sky and its fascinating legacy. Once a game I disregarded myself, I now absolutely love its subjective space exploration and gorgeous landscapes.
