Hij is groot. Gespierd. In vlees? Sāṃkhya spans the fields of philosophy, physics, metaphysics, psychology, and ethics. Although notably not theological, its key premises can be found in virtually all religious traditions that originate from India. Sāṃkhya espouses a reciprocity between Prakṛti, the realm of activity, and Puruṣa, the silent witness. It also delineates the phenomenal experiences that arise from Prakṛti, including the operations of the human body, the five great elements, and the eight mental states. Sāṃkhya proclaims that knowledge of world and self can lead to freedom. I was thinking about how today, in the world because people don't know this. This means they don't know that Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Everything emanates from Him. They try to solve the problems of life through their own devices. They make adjustments—politically, economically, physically, socially—and all of them create more complications. That is, when we try to solve our problems through our own intellects, we always create more problems. This is something Prahlād Mahārāj mentions in his prayers to Lord Nṛsiṁhadev, that the so-called remedies of this world are often times worse than the disease itself. And so, while I was reading the Puruṣa Sūkta, I was thinking how the ultimate solution to life always traces back to what Kṛṣṇa says in the Bhagavad-gītā: "man-manā bhava mad-bhakto (18.65) – Just remember Me." In the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Kavirāja Gosvāmī mentions that if you remember Lord Caitanya, then difficult things become easy. And if you forget Him, then what should become simple becomes very complicated (CC Adi 14.1).Near the end of the Puruṣa Sūkta, it is mentioned in a benedictory verse that anyone who becomes aware of The Supreme Puruṣa, who is the source of this manifested world, becomes liberated. It's something that Kṛṣṇa says in the Bhagavad-gītā also, everything's there in the Gītā, right? So far as common sense is concerned, we come to the conclusion that there are three identities, namely matter, spirit and Superspirit. Now if we go to the Bhagavad-gītā, or the Vedic intelligence, we can further understand that all three identities, namely matter, individual spirit, and the Superspirit, are all dependent on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Superself is a partial representation or plenary portion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Bhagavad-gītā affirms that the Supreme Personality of Godhead dominates all over the material world by His partial representation only. God is great, and He cannot be simply an order supplier of the individual selves; therefore the Superself cannot be a full representation of the Supreme Self, Puruṣottama, the Absolute Personality of Godhead. Realization of the Superself by the individual self is the beginning of self-realization, and by the progress of such self-realization one is able to realize the Supreme Personality of Godhead by intelligence, by the help of authorized scriptures, and, principally, by the grace of the Lord. The Bhagavad-gītā is the preliminary conception of the Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the further explanation of the science of Godhead. So if we stick to our determination and pray for the mercy of the director of intelligence sitting within the same bodily tree, like a bird sitting with another bird (as explained in the Upaniṣads), certainly the purport of the revealed information in the Vedas becomes clear to our vision, and there is no difficulty in realizing the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva. The intelligent man therefore, after many births of such use of intelligence, surrenders himself at the lotus feet of Vāsudeva, as confirmed by the Bhagavad-gītā (7.19). People, both atheists and “believers,” hold a variety of concepts of God, or a higher transcendent truth or reality, which they either accept or, in the case of atheists, reject. If asked, “Is There a Concept of God in Yoga?” we would need to understand what the person means by God? Within Yoga or the sacred texts known as the Vedas, the understanding of God, is vast and extraordinarily complete understanding. There was also an appreciation of the fact that God can be experienced differently by different people. He is said to “reward” seekers according to the nature of their “surrender”. In the quest to find God, there was the recognition of the limitations of the mind and the severely limited external sense organs. It was recognized that spiritual reality is beyond the range of experimental knowledge. There is a Sanskrit word adhokṣaja which means "that which is beyond the measurement of our senses." The Vedas taught that despite the limitations of the body and mind, God is discoverable, but it requires a major change or purification of our consciousness. Arguments made on the “can you show me God” statement were considered ill-conceived and even childish. The Bhāgavata Purāṇa famously elucidates that the Absolute Truth or Godhead is experienced in three features, as; Brahman – brahmajyoti – the impersonal ocean of white light Paramātmā – the Supreme Soul who permeates all of material creation and sits within the hearts of all living beings. The personal feature of God. Bhagavān – the Supreme Personality of Godhead who is the highest object of love. The texts I quoted in this talk. As all surrender unto Me, I reward them accordingly. Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Pṛthā. Bhagavad-gītā 4.11 The atma/self is atomic in size and can be perceived by perfect intelligence. - Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad (3.1.9) I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is Śyāmasundara, Kṛṣṇa Himself with inconceivable innumerable attributes, whom the pure devotees see in their heart of hearts with the eye of devotion tinged with the salve of love. - Brahma-saṁhitā 5.38 Learned transcendentalists who know the Absolute Truth call this nondual substance Brahman, Paramātmā or Bhagavān. - Bhāgavata Purāṇa 1.2.11 Īśvara (God) is a special Puruṣa, unlike other puruṣas, untouched by afflictions, actions (material activity) and the fruit of actions, and latent impressions or material desires. - Yoga-sūtra 1.24 Kṛṣṇa who is known as Govinda is the Supreme Godhead. He has an eternal blissful spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin and He is the prime cause of all causes. – Śrī Brahma-saṁhitā 5.1

Personhood is central to the worldview of ancient India. Across voluminous texts and diverse traditions, the subject of the puruṣa, the Sanskrit term for "person," has been a constant source of insight and innovation. Yet little sustained scholarly attention has been paid to the precise meanings of the puruṣa concept or its historical transformations within and across traditions. In Puruṣa: Personhood in Ancient India (Oxford UP, 2024), Matthew I. Robertson traces the history of Indic thinking about puruṣas through an extensive analysis of the major texts and traditions of ancient India. Through clear explanations of classic Sanskrit texts and the idioms of Indian traditions, Robertson discerns the emergence and development of a sustained, paradigmatic understanding that persons are deeply confluent with the world. Personhood is worldhood. Puruṣa argues for the significance of this "worldly" thinking about personhood to Indian traditions and identifies a host of techniques that were developed to "extend" and "expand" persons to ever-greater scopes. Ritualized swellings of sovereigns to match the extent of their realm find complement in ascetic meditations on the intersubjective nature of perceptually delimited person-worlds, which in turn find complement in yogas of sensory restraint, the dietary regimens of Ayurvedic medicine, and the devotional theologies by which persons "share" and "eat" the expansive divinity of God. Whether in the guise of a king, an ascetic, a yogi, a buddha, or a patient in the care of an Ayurvedic physician, fully realized persons know themselves to be coterminous with the horizons of their world. Offering new readings of classic works and addressing the fields of religion, politics, philosophy, medicine, and literature, Puruṣa: Personhood in Ancient India challenges us to reexamine the goals of ancient Indian religions and yields new insights into the interrelated natures of persons and the worlds in which they live. The concept of the puruṣa, or person, is implicated in a wide range of ancient texts throughout the Indian subcontinent. In Puruṣa: Personhood in Ancient India, published in 2024 by Oxford University Press, Matthew I. Robertson traces the development of this concept from 1500 BCE to 400 CE: in the Ṛg Veda, the Brāhmaṇas, the Upaniṣads, Buddhist Pāli suttas, the Caraka and Suśruta Saṃhitā, and the Mahābhārata. Pushing back against the interpretation of personhood as a cosmological microcosm, Robertson argues instead that, in these texts, personhood and the “world” (loka) are interrelated concepts. He investigates how persons were understood to expand to the fill the horizons of their world, attending to ritual-political, aesthetic, yogic, and medicinal techniques deployed for this purpose. Bones that have been found around the world, from elongated skulls in Puru to North American burial mounds. So much of our history talks of giants and creatures that appear in different cultures around the world. Some of these creatures have been recalled even in recent times. Abraham Lincoln's famous quote about giants while giving a speech at Niagara Falls. "The eyes of that species of extinct giants whose bones fill the Mounds of America have gazed on Niagara as ours do now." To the Giant of Kandahar that was reportedly killed in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan. It's no secret that doctors have one of the highest-paying professions. However, while it may seem like money can solve a lot of problems, money can't buy time with family or the freedom to travel.Unfortunately, it does not seem like financial education is part of the medical school curriculum, which may make it hard for newly graduated medical students to take control of their financial future and create the life they may imagine their occupation should afford. Many of my closest friends are pursuing a career in medicine, which is why I've been super excited to bring pulmonary & critical care physician, Harry Nima Zegarra onto the show to discuss a few of the things medical professionals should be considering when they are not too busy saving our lives!Harry Nima Zegarra is the Co-Founder of Nima Equity and is passionate about teaching busy health care professionals how they can harness the power of real estate and passive cash flow to create the balanced life that they dream for themself. Harry spent 14 years studying medicine in Puru and in the USA, and he is a general partner in 784 units across four different states. In today's episode, we discuss…How Harry found his first real estate deal and what he learned from that experience. What medical school students should be thinking about now and some tips for beginning a career in medicine. Why many high-income earners feel like they are constantly trying to catch up and how to position yourself to prevent this seemingly endless cycle. How Harry has been able to find the time to invest in his future and how real estate has granted him the freedom to spend time with his family. If you are studying to work in a time-demanding career or you are already in one, this interview will give you the keys, inspiration, and resources to unlock the freedom you have the ability to create for yourself!Keep Making Milestones, Ben MalechIf you want to learn more about Harry, you can find him at:Homepage: https://www.nimaequity.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/harry-nima-zegarra-md-21248833/Doctors Investing Club: https://www.nimaequity.com/investResources Mentioned:Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Robert KiyosakiThe Richest Man In Babylon - George Samuel ClasonGoals - Brian TracyTo learn more about Ben, connect with him through:Ben's Website: https://benmalech.com/Ben's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/benjamin-malech/Ben's email: benmalech@carswell.io
