Dana Carvey is an immensely talented and funny comedian. Sadly, Master of Disguise fails in almost every conceivable way to showcase that. It is loaded with one-note jokes and costumes that range from idiotic to absurdly racist. Thus, despite being a mild success financially, it failed to launch his career to the next level. Worse, Master of Disguise was despised by critics, narrowly avoiding a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes by the slimmest of margins—it's a 1%. Audiences were also not in on the gags. And who can blame them? Most of the jokes far extend their welcome, and most of the absurd disguises do too. You'll barely laugh, you may cry, and you'll certainly never think of turtles the same. Now, sit back, blend in with an Oktoberfest from Reformation Brewery, and prepare to steal the Liberty Bell! The Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Bling Blake, and Chumpzilla are open-hand slapping evil doers and screaming, "Who's your Daddy?"! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – 1,000 Faces... And Not A Single Clue! (0:00) Lingering Questions – For a movie centered around elaborate costumes, most of them are stupid. CTL Script/ Top Stories of May 28th Publish Date: May 28th From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Award-Winning Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast Today is Tuesday, May 28th and Happy 80th Birthday to singer Gladys Knight. ***05.28.24 – BIRTHDAY – GLADYS KNIGHT*** I'm Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cherokee is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Woodstock Fire Department Maintains Top ISO Rating March from Canton to Woodstock Honors Fallen Soldiers on Memorial Day Woodstock Creates Development Standards for ADUs Plus, Bruce Jenkins sits down with Leah McGrath on frozen meals. We'll have all this and more coming up on the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger Podcast, and if you're looking for Community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! Commercial: CU of GA STORY 1: Woodstock Fire Department Maintains Top ISO Rating The Woodstock Fire Department has proudly retained its Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), signifying superior property fire protection. This rating, the highest designation, is a result of a thorough assessment of various factors including staffing, equipment, training, emergency response times, and community risk reduction efforts. Chief Shane Dobson expressed pride in the team's dedication, highlighting the commitment to ensuring the safety of Woodstock residents. Maintaining this rating not only reflects excellence in fire protection but also offers potential insurance premium reductions for homeowners and businesses. Mayor Michael Caldwell congratulated Chief Dobson and the department for their exceptional achievement, placing them among the top 1.5% of fire departments nationwide. STORY 2: March from Canton to Woodstock Honors Fallen Soldiers on Memorial Day Shepherd's Men, a nonprofit supporting injured veterans through the SHARE Military Initiative, marched 12 miles from Canton to Woodstock on Memorial Day, with some carrying a 160-pound barrel symbolizing the weight of sacrifice. The barrel contained Clarity Lager, a beer created in collaboration with Hop City Brews and Reformation Brewery to benefit Shepherd's Men. The march aimed to honor fallen service members and raise awareness for the initiative, which provides free clinical care to post-9/11 veterans. Co-founder Travis Ellis emphasized the importance of supporting veterans and reducing the number of lives lost to suicide, highlighting the initiative's mission to ensure veterans can lead fulfilling lives after their service. STORY 3: Woodstock Creates Development Standards for ADUs The Woodstock City Council voted to amend the city's land development ordinance to establish development standards for accessory dwelling units (ADUs). ADUs, also known as "mother-in-law suites" or "granny flats," are additional residential buildings on the same lot as a primary residence. The amendments provide guidance on ADU use, design, and parking. They allow for ADUs to be built in many residential zoning districts, with requirements such as owner occupancy and compliance with HOA rules. Development standards include square footage limits, appearance similarity to the primary dwelling, parking requirements, and more. The amendments aim to address the statewide housing crunch and preserve the character of Woodstock's residential neighborhoods. Job sectors like professional, scientific, and technical services, durable goods manufacturing, and health care and social assistance experienced significant gains. However, the information sector, including the film industry, saw a decline. First-time unemployment claims rose by 21% in April but fell by 15% over the year. Georgia Commissioner of Labor Bruce Thompson highlighted the state's job growth and economic opportunities despite uncertainties. STORY 5: Sequoyah Graduate Earns $5,000 Scholarship Sunny Nguyen, a recent graduate of Sequoyah High School, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship by the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation. Sunny is one of 20 high school seniors in the Sawnee EMC service area to receive this prestigious award. Blake House, Vice President of Sawnee EMC's Member Services, highlighted the foundation's dedication to community support through their Youth Scholarship Program. Sylvia Lundberg, chair of the foundation's board, emphasized that scholarships are part of the foundation's mission to assist exceptional students in furthering their education. Since its inception, the Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation has awarded over $1.25 million to 292 high school seniors. Welcome to the latest episode of "This Week in Barbecue," your go-to source for everything sizzling in the world of BBQ. In this episode, we're excited to announce that Fox Bros is now taking holiday catering orders, perfect for adding a smoky touch to your festive feasts. Tragedy has struck the BBQ community, with Helberg Barbecue in Woodway, Texas, losing their pitroom to a fire, and Matt Horn's Horn Barbecue in Oakland suffering a similar fate. We share how you can help these beloved establishments rebuild through their GoFundMe campaigns. On a more uplifting note, Rodney Scott's BBQ is set for significant expansion, including a 2024 Nashville location in collaboration with Eric Church, and upcoming spots in Miami, FL, and Hoover, AL. Angie Harris, head Pitmaster at Rodney Scott's Atlanta, is someone to watch in this growing empire. The episode also dives into the competitive spirit of BBQ with the Memphis in May Team Application Guide, preparing you for the event from May 15-18, 2024, at Liberty Park in Memphis, TN. We celebrate the success of Eddie Wright BBQ, which has received its second DoorDash grant in partnership with the NAACP. The episode stirs up some debate with 1ChefOnAMission's question about menu misinterpretation – is it on the customer or the owner? Gordon Ramsey gives us the raw truth about what it takes to start a restaurant, and it might not be what you're expecting. Don't miss Pitmaster Santa at Reformation Brewery in Smyrna on December 10th, and join us as we discuss a controversial cooking method – microwaving steaks. Tune in to this packed episode for a deep dive into the heart of BBQ culture, challenges, and celebrations.
Tip Toes is an odd movie. Instead of serving as an effective drama that highlights the health and societal struggles of little people, it devolves into utter insanity. Why? Well, Gary Oldman took the lead role of Rolfe, a little person whose twin brother, played by Matthew McConaughey, is going through an existential crisis. Steven, McConaughey, is not a little person, but the rest of his family is. He fears that his baby will be born with dwarfism. On the surface, that sounds like general drama fare; but, it's impossible to ignore how bizarre the choice to cast Gary Oldman was. He shuffles around on his knees, wears a bulky shoulder pad to make it look like he has a hunchback, and frequently sits inside a couch while his fake legs dangle over the cushions. None of this is an exaggeration. Add in Peter Dinklage as an insane French Marxist and Tiptoes frequently veers into dark territory. Nothing that happens in the movie is as funny or insightful as it hopes to be. So, sit back, ease your bewilderment with a Glowstick IPA from Reformation Brewery, and don't yell, I'm a dwarf" in public! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are wondering where we can buy a couch with a Gary Oldman-sized whole in it! Reformation Brewery prepares to 'Set Beer Free' at their second location Woodstock, GA is a fairly small community about 30 miles north of Atlanta. It's been my home for 14 years and Reformation Brewery's home for nearly five. When I moved here the "big" news/controversy in town was the opening of a new Super Wal-Mart. Many of the city's elder residents didn't think we needed that kind of growth, the old Wal-Mart was just fine (it wasn't). Now, the Downtown Woodstock area is lined with shops and restaurants, we have an amphitheater, a really nice trail system, and a brewery. As Reformation approaches that 5th anniversary, they're preparing to open their second location. The 6,00-square-foot space is in the heart of Downtown Woodstock, close to all those fancy amenities I mentioned earlier. A 5-barrel brewhouse will serve up a variety of small-batch beers to visitors. The split plan will have various areas to relax and enjoy your brew, with one section set up to have a coffeehouse feel. The brewery has partnered with Queenie's Southern Restaurant & Bar for food service and space will be available for private events. We sat down with Reformation Co-founder and Brewmaster Nick Downs this week to talk about the new digs, new beers, his faith and how that influences his business, and what he envisions for Reformation in the future. We also share a story about Martin Luther and how he helped promote the use of hops in beer. Fresh back from Las Vegas, Brian drops some cigar info our way with his recap of new offerings discovered at the annual IPCPR cigar convention. If you want more cigar info be sure to check out StogieReview.com where Brian waxes poetic about his love for burning dead leaves. In the news this week Three Weavers joins CANarchy, the Great American Beer Fest will be bigger than ever, and a punk album about craft beer. It's a new year, and it's time to get back into the beer! And, as luck would have it, it was a Northeast Metro Atlanta show. We had the crew from Reformation Brewery in the house this week. Co-founder Spencer Nix, along with Ryan Morley-Stockton and photographer extraordinaire Jessica Miller joined us in studio this weekend. We talked about the brewery's origin story, which includes some in depth conversations about religious history, seminary school, and parties that got just too popular for a house to hold. 2016 was a big year for Reformation. They canned their first brew (and have now expanded to 5 canned products). 2017 looks to be another growth opportunity for them, with potential expansion out of Georgia. We also spoke to Spencer about the challenges and opportunities facing Georgia's beer community this year. Headlines (furnished by Your Pie Perimeter) The biggest news in Georgia beer was a personnel move. Steve Anderson, formerly of Atlanta's Red Brick Brewing, has joined Kennesaw's Dry County Brewing as its brewmaster. It takes some courage to open up a craft brewery focusing mainly on lagers. After all, lagers require a little more love...time...and temperature control before they're ready to serve. And for the most part, craft beer drinkers are mainly an ale-centric bunch. But for the men behind Hapeville's Arches Brewing, craft lagers are a way to showcase their brewing skills. Ryan Fogelgren and Jamey Adams joined us in the studios this week. Specializing in crisp, clean-drinking (mainly) German-style beers, the crew behind Arches have gained a good following in the community, and have even gained fans at the nearby Porsche headquarters. We talked about their start in the brewing business, their growth, and the future. Season 3, Episode 21 – This week on the show, 4B listener and super-fan, Mike Kirshner, is at it once again and sent us some really tasty brew from Woodstock, Georgia. Before we start the show this week, it should be noted that Matt wasn’t able to make it to Session 35 of Four Brewers due to personal affairs, and thus will not be on this episode or the next two. See you at Session 36, Matt! We begin by reading our (long overdue) thank you list of Four Brewers’ supporters and podcast reviewers on iTunes. We haven’t read thank-yous since November of 2015, so if you’ve left a review or supported the show since then, you’ll hear your name on this episode! Reformation Brewery Beers Today, we’re drinking beers from Woodstock, Georgia’s Reformation Brewery. Trends in the craft beer scene over the last decade or so have been what could mildly be described as “experimental” by many, many breweries. On one hand, that’s what craft beer is—innovation and experimentation. On the other hand, things can get out of control when it comes to adding ingredients to beer. Reformation’s stance is to make quality, classic beer styles, while at the same time throwing their own spin on it. It’s certainly a noble approach to beer. (Tap’s Fish House, anyone? They’re winning medals left and right…) Mike sent us four Reformation beers: Union, Cadence, Atlas, and Stark. These beers basically cover the spectrum of classic craft beer, from Belgian witbier to Porter. These beers were pretty fantastic, overall. Big thanks to Mike for once again hooking us up with some great east coast brew! BREW THE SHIT OUT OF IT.
