Seabass joins the show to talk Vanderbilt football and basketball on Dec. 19, 2025. Topics include: - Clark Lea wins a well-deserved national coach of the year honor. - Diego Pavia finishes runner-up for the Heisman Trophy and... the aftermath of that certainly got headlines. - Thoughts on the ReliaQuest Bowl with Iowa. - The men's basketball team had a horrible shooting and ball-handling night, but played well enough to get an overtime win at Wake Forest. Next up: Wake Forest. - Should Vanderbilt be the favorite to win the Southeastern Conference in hoops? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Southeastern 16 crew talks about one of the better bowl matchups in the country: Vanderbilt and Iowa in the ReliaQuest bowl. We preview and predict outcomes on the game, including the following topics: You can prepare for Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia… but can you really prepare for what he brings on any given day given his abilities and a penchant for making plays no one else does? The Heisman runner-up had a fantastic season. Tight end Eli Stowers won the Mackey Award and is Pavia's top target. Running backs Sedrick Alexander and MK Young are also capable threats for the Commodores. Iowa's defense was stout. It allowed just 15.2 points and 271 yards per game and was tough against the run and the pass, and held Oregon to 18 points. Iowa's offense put up 40 points against Nebraska in the finale. The Hawkeyes are led by dual-threat quarterback Mark Gronowski and running back Kamari Moulton (783 rushing yards). Iowa has the Remington Award winner in center Logan Jones, an All-American in guard Beau Stephens and a second-team All-Big 10 tackle in Gennings Dunker. Both teams are great on special teams. Iowa's Kaden Wetjen is one of the country's top return men, while Vanderbilt, led by kicker Brock Taylor and punter Nick Haberer, is excellent in all areas of special teams. Vanderbilt increasingly went up-tempo late in the year with success, making the “over” a sneaky play here. Note: This episode was originally published to podcast feeds on Thursday, Dec. 11, but didn't show up on all of them due to a technical error. The re-release is an attempt to correct that. Our apologies. The awards continue to come in for Vanderbilt--or at least sometimes, they do. Eli Stowers took home the prestigious Campbell Trophy on Wednesday night, and Diego Pavia heads to New York City on Saturday, where he may or may not win the Heisman Trophy. However, while Stowers and Pavia were selected for the coaches' all-Southeastern Conference team on Tuesday, the rest of the Commodores were shut out. Meanwhile, the Commodores will head to Tampa to face Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl and men's basketball, now ranked in the top 15, resumes action on Saturday against Central Arkansas. This week's episode is loaded with drama, debates, and deep-dive reactions from a massive weekend across college football. We start with rapid-fire recaps from around the country — including Alabama vs. Georgia, Texas Tech vs. BYU, Duke vs. Virginia, and Ohio State vs. Indiana — plus Nick breaks out his three favorite OSU FG's of all time. Then we turn to the College Football Playoff rankings and the controversies they created. Did Notre Dame deserve a spot? Should Alabama have snuck in? And with two Group of 5 teams making the field, is this the new normal or a one-year fluke? We also react to the chaos in South Bend after the Notre Dame athletic director blasted the ACC and the Irish announced they're skipping their bowl game. Smart move or a terrible message? Next, we go bowl shopping. Outside the CFP, there are some legitimately great matchups on the slate — including Michigan vs. Texas in the Citrus Bowl, Iowa vs. Vanderbilt in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Boise State vs. Washington in the LA Bowl, Penn State vs. Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl, Georgia Tech vs. BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, and a sneaky-good Arizona vs. SMU showdown in the Holiday Bowl. Finally, we close with Rick Neuheisel's bold prediction that bowl games will eventually become the first games of the season. Is he out of his mind… or ahead of the curve? It's playoff takes, bowl mania, and wall-to-wall college football — let's go.

Quarterback Starts at 0:54 Quick rundown of all the options: it's Bryce. Expectations for Bryce: Vince Young as a RS freshman, who doesn't quite know what to do with the ball and gets jumpy when the pressure's on, but you can see the talent. One thing in his favor: he isn't jumpy at all in the pocket, and the overthrows in the Spring Game were out of character. Michigan has to roll with it, but Big Ten average with huge swings. Will he be more like a sophomore by Ohio State perhaps? [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Skill Positions Starts at 35:36 Running back has two really good players and then a drop to ???. On the very goods, we love Jordan Marshall and might be underrating Justice Haynes—he's got a lot of Corum in him. He's also got a lot of experience as a lead blocker for a running QB, but that's probably not what he came here for. WRs are Donaven McCulley and then a big drop to Just-Guys who probably were better than they looked last year. Think Semaj Morgan should be the #2 since he gives you something—F.Moore, Bell, O'Leary just guys, hearing things about the freshmen doesn't give Brian happy feels. Tight end is the strength of the offense. The spectrum goes fullback: Max Bredeson, h-back: Jalen Hoffman, inline: Marlin Klein, flex: Hogan Hansen. Bredeson kickouts force defenders to overcommit, create bounce opportunities. Klein is an underrated blocker (watch the Reliaquest Bowl). Hansen was open last year, Davis Warren was allergic to throwing at him. Hoffman might be Underwood's secret binkie, can run WR routes and block like an OL. 3. Offensive Line Starts at 1:18:36 PLEASE do not activate our rule that if two guys are battling for a job and it's won by a third guy it's a very bad sign. Concerning that OL was an issue, and player evaluation was an issue, when the HC was the OL coach. It's not a hot take that Andrew Babalola is going to start at Ohio State, Brian. If Evan Link gets fixed and Gio El-Hadi truly feels more comfortable at LG that'd be great; the latter is more likely than the former, but they don't have better options so Link to start. Crippen is who he is; if his issues were mental then could see Juan Castillo having an effect, but Crippen is mentally there and just gets physically dominated. RG and RT are two really good stories for the future, as Efobi and Sprague (especially Sprague) are on track for excellent careers. Depth at G. 4. Hot Takes, Special Teams and Chip Starts at 1:46:36 Takes hotter than Sabrina Carpenter. Thank you to the Michigan fan who left Dominic Zvada out of the Groza semifinalists so he would come back to be the best kicker in Michigan history again. Punter…wasn't great last year but it's not like Hudson Hollenbeck was better in the one game we saw him, and attempts to get more guys in the portal is a little concerning. Returns should be Semaj, I'Marion Stewart, and hearing things about the UMass transfer Anthony Simpson. Chip's offense is about building his passing game onto your running game. They'd like to be an outside zone one way/rollout the other way team but they probably can't run outside zone. Need to hit the downfield shots to keep safeties off their screen game; last year they were set up at 7 yards.
