Mapping Metroid returns to tackle one of the oldest - and deadliest - areas in the series: Ridley's Lair from NEStroid! We're back almost 40 years to examine the layout of this area, how it serves as a skill-checking gauntlet run for the player, the creepy and unsettling music and how it adds to the atmosphere, if this hideout could have used a few more items and expansions, our favorite rooms ans the trickery involved in them, and of course, the epic(?) showdown with the earliest version of Ridley! All this, PLUS some ROM-Hack talk, Zero Mission comparisons, a new Doom game rumored, and a debate over the recently released Furiosa! Come and hear out thoughts and let us know what you think of Ridley's Lair! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Podbean x iTunes x Spotify x YouTube Support us on Patreon! We originally had an Inspired By Metroid game on tap for this week, but we ran into some scheduling issues, so instead of rushing it, we're pushing our show back one week and instead unlocking another ROM Hack Review from the vault! One of the most widely fantasized crossovers in the video game world would be the merging of the Metroid and DOOM universes, so this month for ROM Hack Reviews, Andy plays the crossover game DOOMtroid! And of course, we couldn't talk about Metroid and DOOM without our own Doominal Crossing, so the fellas team up to examine this Metroid: Zero Mission hack from Jefe962. Does this hack rip and slay, or is it better off staying in Hell? Come listen to find out, and as always, try the hack for yourself here! Unfortunately, our schedules didn't align this week and we weren't able to get together to record a new episode of the pod, but never fear - we're reaching into the fault to pull out a formerly Patreon-exclusive ROM Hack Review! We're playing the amazing, puzzling, innovative, and gruelling ROM: Super Metroid Ascent! Made by Benox50, this hack is the biggest, longest, and most intense challenge of any ROM Hack yet! Does it soar above every other game? Or does it crumble under its own ambitions? Come listen to find out! Come and enjoy, and as always, make sure to try this hack for yourself! Plus, if you're looking for some extra Omega content this week, check out 2/3's of the band on GameXplain talking Metroid Prime 4! This week, we had some last minute sickness ruin our recording schedule, so feast your eye on not one but TWO Metroid ROM Hack Reviews! Metroid is a series known for its atmospheric feel, and in the latest ROM Hack Review, we're looking at a hack that takes that atmosphere and elevates it to the next level! Created by Digital Mantra, V I T A L I T Y is a Super Metroid hack that places Samus on the planet Auriga, delving deeper into the mystery of the world and slowly realizing all is not what it seems. With an emphasis on story and atmosphere, including a huge late game twist, I'm excited to share thoughts on this dark tale! As always, you can check out the hack for yourself here! We're back with our (ahem) balls to the walls – Morph Balls, that is! In our latest ROM Hack Review, we're taking a look at the unique B2-TW, a hack by Grime in which you play in Morph Ball form the entire time, jumping, bombing, puzzling, and even fighting enemies in close quarters with many a hazard around! A nice and short romp, B2-TW is definitely unique in it's concept, but is the final product ballin' or is it hori-ball? Come listen to find out, and click here to grab the game for yourself! Our recording schedules didn't quite line up this week, so instead of a new episode of the podcast, we're releasing a old episode that will be new to almost everyone! We've unlocked the previously Patreon exclusive series ROM Hack Reviews to go over the NEStroid hack Metroid: Rogue Dawn! Created by Grimlock, Optomon, and snarfblam, Rogue Dawn tells the story of Dawn Aran and her quest to capture the alien Metroids to use as a weapon for the Space Pirates! Serving as a prequel to the original NEStroid, Rogue Dawn is a Metroid 1 hack that features original music, new abilities, a beautifully original world, tough bosses, and some crazy hidden Easter eggs! There's a lot to love about this ROM Hack, so come and listen to Andy's review and consider checking the game out for yourself! How a game designed in a week helped to change everything — for the company that made it, for a local industry in turmoil, and for a global industry in transition. Features interviews with Defiant Development co-founder Morgan Jaffit and Firemint founder / Flight Control creator Rob Murray, along with a clip of former Touch Arcade editor Eli Hodapp. LINKS You can't get Flight Control on iOS or Android anymore, but the HD Mac and Windows port is https://store.steampowered.com/app/62000/Flight_Control_HD/ (still available on Steam) — if your computer is old enough to run it. The clip of Eli Hodapp speaking on The Touch Arcade Show is from https://toucharcade.com/2015/09/11/the-toucharcade-show-222-r-i-p-flight-control/ (episode 222), published in September 2015 — shortly after Flight Control (along with many other EA-owned games) was delisted from the App Store For more from me on the early mobile games business, be sure to check out http://lifeandtimes.games/episodes/files/1.html (episode 1 - Race to the bottom) as well as the http://lifeandtimes.games/episodes/files/interview-jon-jordan.html (extended interview) I posted with Pocket Gamer co-founder Jon Jordan after that episode came out. I also briefly touched on early iPhone hit Trism in http://lifeandtimes.games/episodes/files/6.html (episode 6 - ROM Hack) — which featured Trism creator Steve Demeter talking about his stint in the ROM hacking and translations community. If you're curious what these guys are up to nowadays, you'll find Eli at https://gameclub.io/ (GameClub) carving out deals to pull more old iOS and Android games out of purgatory and into their subscription catalogue. Rob is a stay-at-home dad, years deep in a bigger-than-he'd-expected project to design his family's new house. And Morgan is also enjoying the home life after winding down Defiant in 2019, happy that it had served its purpose and was no longer needed. He says he's also writing a script for a new game some ex-Defiant people are building, consulting on various upcoming game projects, and writing short stories (which he describes as a "very nice" change of pace, as he can get a story done in days rather than the years most games he's worked on took to complete). Alternate titles for this week's episode include: The Pilot is the Hippo 5 Seconds until the Hippo Impacts the Plane "It Follows" but it's a Hippo The Hippo Annihilates Tim Allen In case it wasn't obvious, we didn't make good on our promise to watch Airplane, nor do we make good on our promise to actually stay on topic for once. This episode does, however, serve as a handy guide for all the reasons to never ever approach a hippopotamus, let alone desire one for Christmas. Homework for this week: -Make a ROM Hack of Ace Attorney in which you must prove the niceness of children that are framed to be naughty. -Do some research on hippos. Knowing is half the battle.

Pokemon Gold Christmas Rom-hack 04. (Season -04 episode -15). An exciting new instalment of the SIDE nuzlocke. This is not the main one. This is just the Christmas nuzlocke, of the Christmas themed pokemon gold romhack. That said, enjoy it anyway why don't you! Songs in this episode were: Soft Power by Tropical Fuck Storm, Suicide Blues by Stringbean, and II Kyrie, Molto Espressivo from György Ligeti's Requiem.
Pokemon Gold Christmas Rom-hack 03. (Season -03 episode -05). The snippet of song at the very very end is from Goodie Goodies by Cakes Da Killa. I'm gonna go see him live in a week. AND in the same weekend I'm gonna go see Tropical Fuck Storm, which is Gareth and Fiona from The Drones, who's song Six Ways to Sunday I use as my closing credits music. It's gonna be a real good time. Well geeze, no description of the episode this time, huh? Just my frickn weekend plans I guess. sorry about that. Oh well! seeya next time!

Games You Should Know is taking the time to recognize some of the amazing fan remakes of timeless classics. We are starting with Super Mario 64: Last Impact created by Kaze Emanuar! Enjoy! ----------------------------------------------- Here is the description of the game from the creator, and also how to play this game! It is really difficult for Nintendo standards and i recommend you to not try to get every last thing, unless you are very determined to beat the game 100% and have played through SM64 before. At the dawn of emulation and the World Wide Web, a group of fans discovered the Nintendo and Super Nintendo games that never made it over from Japan. One of them decided to hack into a few of these and translate them, unofficially, with help from some friends -- starting with Final Fantasy II for the NES. Featuring quotes from Steve Demeter, founder of one of the first fan translation groups, Demiforce, who was the driving force behind three high-profile ROM hacks -- the Final Fantasy II and Radical Dreamers translation projects, and the Earthbound Zero prototype release. Gary's taking the lead-off position this week with ReCore, but I'm surprised his was able to make it with all the waiting he's had to do with the loading screens. With some (un)scientific proof, Gary and Justin manage to see who truly has some of the longest loading screens. That's not all for Gary, though. He's also got another game, The Park. It's a horror adventure and it's right up his alley. Dark room, headphones, alone, that's how those games are meant to be played. Anthony sinks his time into Dragon Quest VII. Just another typical RPG for him, but also a good one. Justin tells us more about EarthLock, this time somewhat more coherently (maybe). He then let us in on Assassin's Creed Chronicles China, which was a mystery to at least one of The Tangent. Next, Brian puts the bookend on his Deus Ex adventure. It'd say he enjoyed it, but I'll let the man speak for himself. Finally, Stephen gets back to us with the Rom Hack, Super Mario 64 Run. Not much to say about it. Mario does indeed run. We've got Drunken News about Blizzard changing Battle.Net's name, Ubisoft and the NX, some Xbox games with Gold, and more disappointing PC Port issues. E3's over but that doesn't mean the game discussion has to end. Brian leads off this week and he begins with his time with Doom. Seems to be a hot topic these days. Anthony goes off and grabs a ROM Hack called Dragon Ball Z Team Training. A Pokemon-like game. Justin finds himself back in Skyrim, hopefully he'll be able to put it down. He's also been spending his time with Overwatch (like most of us have) and he stumbles on a mobile game. One Tap Tennis. It's pretty good. Gary's still chasing that Witcher III DLC, but then hits us with a surprise. It's Limbo. Then Just Cause 3. Can't say those two belong together.
