Die Steam Machine ist endlich vorbestellbar und sie kostet 1039 Euro in der Variante mit 512 GB SSD. Ohne Controller. Den gibt es für einen Aufpreis von 69 Euro, im Bundle also für 1108 Euro. Die Variante mit 2 TB SSD kostet 1359 Euro (mit Controller 1428 Euro). Warum sollte man sich dieses Gerät dann noch kaufen? Die Punkte, die dafür sprechen, sind immer noch die gleichen: kompaktes Design, das sich gut ins Wohnzimmer einfügt, äußerst leises Kühlsystem, SteamOS. Nur wiegt das Problem der unterwältigenden Performance bei solchen Preisen noch stärker. Theoretisch kann man sich jetzt mit dem (halb-)offiziellen Release von SteamOS für dedizierte AMD-Grafikkarten auch selbst eine Steam Machine bauen, die weniger kostet, dafür mehr kann, aber man muss bei den oben genannten positiven Punkten deutliche Abstriche machen: Den Formfaktor einer Steam Machine wird man im DIY nicht erreichen, die Lautstärke, Strombedarf. Aufgrund von hitzebedingter Drosselung der Hirn-Performance halten wir uns diesmal kurz. Das EU-Parlament verbietet KI-Systeme, die u.a. Inhalte bzw. Darstellungen von intimen Körperteilen oder sexuelle Handlungen von bestimmbaren Personen erstellen können. Das gilt aber wohl nur für Systeme bzw. Generatoren, deren expliziter Zweck die Erstellung solcher Inhalte ist. Solche Inhalte ohne die Zustimmung der betroffenen Person zu erstellen und zu verbreiten, war auch vorher schon verboten, hier geht es um die Systeme selbst. Wie wir wissen, kommt FSR 4.1 für Grafikkarten auf Basis von RDNA 2 also die RX 6000er Reihe erst nächstes Jahr. AMD hat jetzt auch bestätigt, was wir schon in Folge 307 vermutet haben: Es liegt an den fehlenden dedizierten ML-Recheneinheiten. RDNA 2 kann zwar wie RDNA 3 mit INT8-Berechnungen umgehen, die müssen aber auf den regulären Shader-Recheneinheiten laufen. Noch ist kein konkreter Endpunkt in Sicht, aber die Zeichen werden deutlicher: Die Kosten für die "KI"-Nutzung steigen, gleichzeitig drücken die Anbieter uns es immer noch stärker ins Gesicht. Google möchte die "KI"-Übersicht bei Suchanfragen weiter ausbauen, hat aber eben auch eine (vorläufige) Niederlage vor dem Landgericht München I kassiert. Das ist der Ansicht, dass "KI"-generierte Antworten nicht mehr vom sog. Haftungsprivileg abgedeckt sind, es ist eben nicht eine neutrale Präsentation von Suchergebnissen, sondern bereitet die Inhalte auf und präsentiert sie als etwas eigenes. Das könnte, soweit das Urteil standhält, einiges ändern. Aber neben all dem "KI"-Gedöns haben wir auch gespielt: Mo hat sich R-Type Dimensions III genauer angesehen, ein Remake des Shoot 'em Up Klassikers R-Type III auf dem SNES und er ist vom Remake nicht angetan, das Original hingegen hat auch heute noch seine Qualitäten. Mike konnte zwar zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme nur sehr kurz in das Remake von Gothic 1 schauen, aber inzwischen kann er sagen: ein Fest für Fans des Klassikers von 2001! Viel Spaß mit Folge 311! Es ist gerade eine üble Hitze hier in der Chefredaktion von Technikquatsch. Eines Tages wird dieser Text in einem auch im Sommer wohltemperiertem Büro mit guter auf der Nordseite eines gut gedämmten Hauses entstehen. Das ist der Traum. Unsere Gehirne mögen noch so gekocht sein, im Silicon Valley scheint es noch schlimmer zu sein, obwohl dort alles klimatisiert ist. Anders lassen sich die KI-Fantastereien dort nicht mehr erklären. Ok, es gibt andere Erklärungen, die sind aber deutlich weniger schmeichelhaft, aber leider auch wahrscheinlicher. Worauf das abzielt, sind im konkreten Fall die Verschlimmerungen der Google Suche. Microsoft hingegen ist bestrebt, die Integration von KI-Gedöns weniger invasiv zu gestalten. Ob das wirklich bedeutet, dass es weniger davon in Windows geben wird, ist das eine. Offensichtlich soll es nicht mehr direkt in unsere Gesicht gedrückt werden. In Zukunft soll die Copilot-Taste endlich frei belegbar sein. Ein kleiner Gewinn, aber es sind die vielen kleinen Nicklichkeiten, die Windows immer nerviger gemacht haben. Upside-Down-Steve (Hardware Unboxed) hat erneut die AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT gegen die Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti antreten lassen und inzwischen liegen beide Grafikkarten gleich auf. Zu Release war die 9070 XT noch etwa 5-10% hinter der 5070 Ti. Ähnliches ist auch in der aktualisierten Benchmark-Suite von Computerbase zu sehen. Microsoft hat gerade etwas Stress: Sicherheitsforscher:in Chaotic Eclipse/Nightmare Eclipse hat unter anderem einen 0day-Exploit veröffentlicht, mit dem man auf äußerst einfachem Weg vollen Zugriff auf Laufwerke bzw. Partitionen erhält, die mit Bitlocker verschlüsselt wurden. Laut Chaotic Eclipse sind die dafür nötigen Elemente nur in der Windows Recovery Environment enthalten, nirgends sonst, auch nicht im Internet. Weshalb es nahe liegen könnte, dass es sich hierbei nicht um einen Bug handelt, sondern eine Backdoor. Positiv hingegen für Nutzer von älteren AMD-Grafikkarten: Der ML-basierte Upscaler FSR 4.1 soll nun endlich doch auch offiziell für Radeon 6000 (RDNA 2) und 7000 (RDNA 3) kommen. Für Radeon 7000 sogar schon im Juli 2026, was praktischerweise recht gut zum vermuteten Release der Steam Machines passen würde. Eine der längsten regulären Folgen und zweigeteilt in unterschiedlichen Besetzungen an verschiedenen Tagen aufgezeichnet! Mike hat sich mal wieder einen Hardware-Stream angeschaut und es war gut: Framework greift wieder an, hat sich das "Pro"-Label von Apple geschnappt und möchte auch eben das Segment eines Macbook Pro bedienen. Nur eben für Windows und Linux. Die bekannte Modularität und Reparierbarkeit kombiniert mit der Eleganz und Effizienz eines Macbook Pro. Preislich natürlich auch in der Oberklasse, da können wir uns selbstverständlich bei dem ganzen KI-Gedöns und der darausfolgenden Speicherkrise bedanken, auch wenn die Framework Laptops nie billig waren. Dann der Wechsel, wir tauschen Mo gegen Meep, denn es geht um Drova - Forsaken Kin. Moment, das ist doch gar nicht neu und Mike war doch schon in Folge 101 so begeistert von der damaligen Teaser-Demo? Da habt ihr völlig recht, Drova ist bereits im Herbst 2024 erschienen und Mike hat es sich selbstverständlich auch direkt gekauft. Nur gekauft und gespielt ist nicht das gleiche. Daher hat es sich exzellent ergeben, dass das "Gothic in 2D" jetzt auch für Android und iOS erschienen ist! Das hat Mike zum Anlass genommen, endlich seine Steam-Version anzufangen, und Meep hat sich der Android-Version auf ihrem neuen Tablet angenommen. Auf der Game Developer Conference präsentierte Microsoft neue Details zur neuen Xbox bzw. „Project Helix“: Es soll mit Unterstützung für FSR Diamond kommen, der nächsten Generation an ML-basierten „Gaming-Technologien“ von AMD. Außerdem soll das Programm für Abwärtskompatibilität wieder aufgenommen werden. Wenn Xbox-Spiele früherer Generationen lokal auf der nächsten laufen sollen und nicht nur per Streaming, ist das auch nötig. Bei all dem politischem und sonstigen Chaos in der Welt, sind gute Nachrichten erst recht willkommen und das EU-Parlament hat für eine solche gesorgt: Zwar nur knapp, aber die anlasslose Chatkontrolle ist erneut gescheitert. Meep und Mike waren auf der bayerischen Videospiel-Messe GG Bavaria in der bayerischen Hauptstadt Bayern München! Es waren mit wenigen Ausnahmen vor allem Indie-Entwickler aus… Bayern vor Ort und damit ein hübscher kleiner Einblick in die bayerische Indie-Szene. Wir haben uns ein paar Spiele angesehen, wie Horses of Hoofprint Bay mit einem selbstgebauten Sattel-Controller. Aquapark Tycoon, das nicht nur klingt wie Rollercoaster Tycoon, sondern sich auch verdammt ähnlich spielt. Burning Bridges, ein FMV-Spiel mit Anleihen von Her Story und Gone Home, das den Homevideo-Look nicht nur emuliert, sondern tatsächlich auf Sonys Hi8-Format gedreht wird. A Webbing Journey, ein physikbasiertes Rätselspiel mit Spinnen und Arachnophobie-Modus. Aber am interessantesten sind immer die Menschen auf solchen Veranstaltungen. Einerseits die Entwickler:innen, andererseits andere Podcaster wie Falko Löffler und André Peschke. Ingesamt eine schöne kleine Veranstaltung. Da kommen wir doch gerne wieder. Wir mögen Open Source, das dürfte nicht überraschen. Manchmal passieren in der Welt von Open Source Software auch Dinge, die muss man nicht verstehen: So scheint zumindest im Nachhinein die Entscheidung der Document Foundation, die Online-Version von LibreOffice einzustellen, schwer nachvollziehbar. Umso erfreulicher, dass wohl die Gründe, die zu der Entscheidung geführt hatten, heute nicht mehr oder nicht mehr im gleichen Umfang gelten und dieses Projekt reaktiviert wurde. Gerade jetzt, da Microsoft immer unzuverlässiger wird und überall Features hineinstopft, nach denen niemand gefragt hat. So ein Feature wäre zum Beispiel Bilddarstellung in Notepad. Notepad war ein wunderbar simpler kleiner Editor. Konnte nicht viel, das aber zuverlässig. Und nun muss natürlich Copilot rein, Markdown, Bilder und was nicht sonst alles. Warum nicht die von vielen geschätzte Einfachheit erhalten und eine zweite App, nennen wir sie „Wordpad“ oder so, als Bindeglied zwischen Notepad und Word mit erweiterten Fähigkeiten ausstatten? BMW und Mercedes kennen sich auch aus mit Dingen, die kaum jemand will: Die Nachfrage nach dem Zusatzpaket für autonomes Fahren nach Level 3 bei der 7er Reihe von BMW und der S-Klasse von Mercedes war so gering, dass beide Autohersteller die Option schlichtweg strichen. Die gute Nachricht vorweg: Mikes PC läuft wieder! Es war das Netzteil. Wenn es schon die Einleitung mit der guten Nachricht gibt, muss es natürlich auch schlechte Nachrichten geben und davon leider einige. Derzeit gibt es einen Verkaufsstopp für Geräte von Asus und Acer. Aber warum? Nokia (oder was davon heute noch übrig ist) hat die beiden Hersteller verklagt wegen Verletzung von Patenten, die den Video-Codec H.265 bzw. HEVC betreffen. Und falls euch das bekannt vorkommt: Ja, das macht Nokia öfter. Sony wollte auch mal wieder in die Schlagzeilen und hat Bluepoint Games geschlossen. Die haben zuletzt das exzellente Remake zu Demon’s Souls zum Start der PS5 herausgebracht und galten als absolute Meister ihres Faches. Was haben die seitdem gemacht? Sie haben an God of War: Ragnarök mitgearbeitet und danach ein Service-Game im God-of-War-Universum entwickelt. Das wurde natürlich schon letztes Jahr eingestellt. Dabei gäbe es so viele Titel in der Playstation-Historie, die sich für ein Remake oder Remaster anbieten würden… Und weil Microsoft es anscheinend nicht ertragen kann, wenn Sony der Buhmann ist, ließen sie kurz vor unserer Aufnahme eine kleine Bombe platzen: Phil Spencer, CEO von Microsoft Gaming, ist zurückgetreten, direkt mit ihm Sarah Bond, President of Xbox. Nachfolgerin von Spencer wird Asha Sharma, bisher President of CoreAI Product bei Microsoft, war also für die ganzen tollen „AI“-Produkte wie Copilot und Recall verantwortlich. Ausgerechnet nachdem Sie auf dem dritten Nordsee-Gipfel in Hamburg zusammen mit ihrer Gaslobbyistin Reiche signifikante Investitionen in eben diese Übergangstechnologie angekündigt hatten. Stromerzeugung durch Windkraftwerke als „Übergangstechnologie“ zu trivialisieren, sendet das falsche Signal. Zugleich weckt es Erwartungen an die Kernfusion, die diese in absehbarer Zukunft nicht erfüllen kann: Nehmen wir doch einfach mal an, die Forschung und Entwicklung von Fusionsreaktoren geht planmäßig (dabei ist sie schon im Verzug) und ohne Rückschläge voran und in 30 Jahren können wir uns Fusionskraftwerke hinstellen. Und die sind auch noch wirtschaftlich und sicher zu betreiben. Warum sollten wir dann auf Windenergie verzichten? Der Wind weht kostenlos, die Sonne scheint kostenlos. Wir müssen sie nur nutzen. Was hat Ubisoft uns denn da hingelegt: Sechs Spiele eingestellt, darunter das ersehnte Remake von Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, sieben weitere verschoben und mit mehr Geld und Zeit ausgestattet, was grundsätzlich nicht verkehrt ist, aber wohl auch zu noch höheren Erwartungen führt. Mehrere Studios geschlossen, Mitarbeiter entlassen und weitere „Sparmaßnahmen“ angekündigt (auf deutsch: sie wollen noch mehr Studios schließen und Leute entlassen). Alle Studios und Marken unter fünf „Kreativhäusern“ neugeordnet und ausgerichtet auf die „zwei Kernsäulen Open World Adventures und Games-as-a-Service“. Und natürlich wollen sie verstärkt in „player-facing“ genAI investieren, also durch KI generierte Elemente, die auch in den Spielen selbst enthalten sein soll, Grafik-Assets oder auch NPCs, die dank LLMs noch belangloseres Zeug sabbeln. Die Börse hats gedankt und die Aktie ist um 30 Prozent gefallen. Aber keine Sorge, den üblichen Technik-Quatsch haben wir auch zu bieten: Bei Mo ist der Wasserboiler ausgefallen und in gewohnter Manier hat er, nachdem der Handwerker ein professionelles „Oh, das wird teuer!“ angebracht hatte, eine angemessen abenteuerliche Lösung improvisiert. Die Wischwasserpumpe von Meeps Auto wollte nicht mehr pumpen, was sich am Ende doch leicht lösen ließ trotz redlicher Bemühungen VWs, das zu verhindern. Und Mike hat Onimusha. MSI aber hielt es für eine gute Idee den „wahren AI-Gaming-Monitor“ auf der CES vorzustellen: Gegner werden aufgehellt, der Monitor zoomt automatisch auf sie, Spieler:innen erholen sich schneller von Blendgranaten usw. Im Single-Player alles kein Problem und kann da auch für höhere Zugänglichkeit sorgen. Aber im Multi-Player ein eingebauter Cheat-Mode. OpenAI wird in den nächsten Wochen eine Testphase für Werbung in der freien Version von ChatGPT und in ChatGPT Go (8 Doller im Monat) starten. Ok, Nvidia hatte für uns wenigstens DLSS 4.5 im Gepäck: ein neues und verbessertes Transformer-Modell für den Upscaler, zudem Multi Frame Generation 6x und adaptives MFG für RTX 50. Intel läutete den Start der neuen Mobil-Prozessoren Core Ultra 300 Panther Lake ein und verspricht hohe Performance bei langer Akkulaufzeit. Wir sind gespannt auf ausführliche unabhängige Tests, Ersteindrücke vor Ort sehen Intel hier deutlich vor der direkten Konkurrenz AMD. Wenn da nur nicht die Speicherpreise wären… Als einer der ersten großen scheint Dell es verstanden zu haben: Endkunden haben gar nicht mal so viel Bock auf das ständige „AI! AI! AI! AI!“ Geschrei. Das Neue Jahr ist noch jung, dennoch gibt es bereits ein paar besprechenswerte Meldungen. GOG wurde an den Co-Gründer Michał Kiciński für etwa 21,5 Millionen Euro (90,7 Millionen Złoty) verkauft. Was das für die Zukunft von GOG bedeutet, ist schwer zu beurteilen, zumindest ist es in den richtigen Händen. GOG wird zwar gerne als Steam-Konkurrent angesehen, aber da empfiehlt sich ein Blick in die Geschäftsberichte der CD Projekt Group: In Q3 2025 sind dort für GOG umgerechnet etwa 11,6 Millionen Euro angegeben und ein Nettogewinn von etwa 408.000 Euro (3,6 Prozent Netto-Marge). Über Q1-Q3 sind es etwa 34 Millionen Euro Umsatz und etwa 216.000 Euro Nettogewinn (0,6 Prozent Netto-Marge), also eine schwarze Null. Das ist an sich nicht schlimm, für ein börsennotiertes Unternehmen wie die CD Projekt Group aber doof und drückt das Gesamtergebnis. Wir reden ja seit Wochen ständig von irgendwelchen Preissteigerungen, aber jetzt leider nochmal recht dringend: Die Preise für Grafikkarten werden in diesem Jahr 2026 voraussichtlich deutlich steigen. Wenn ihr in nächster Zeit eine Grafikkarte kaufen wolltet, schaut euch jetzt um. Bei AMD sind die Steigerung bereits sichtbar, Nvidia soll auch bald folgen. Sagt nicht, wir hätten euch nicht gewarnt! Für Retro-Spiele wie Onimusha: Warlords braucht man zum Glück keine moderne Grafikkarte. Mike ist vom Dämonen-Vermöbeln im feudalen Japan ziemlich angetan, auch wenn alte Design-Sünden und die Resident-Evil-DNA seine Geduld auf die Probe stellen. Who was surprised this week with the reveal of the latest in Character Options' action figure range of exclusive Vortex figures? We speak to Al Dewar about the creation of the Meep and the Fourteenth Doctor (without coat!). And Al also reveals the limited edition variant that never was, and a couple of potential Fifteenth Doctor variants for the future!

    from tardi wiki   was the eighth and final episode of Series 15 of Doctor Who. It premiered on 31 May 2025. The story featured the return of Omega in an active role as an antagonist for the first time since the Fifth Doctor story Arc of Infinity [+], now voiced by Nicholas Briggs, with this story revealing Omega's time spent trapped in the Under-Universe had physically altered and deformed him into a monstrous corpse like being. The story also shows the apparent fate of the bi-generated Rani at Omega's hands, while the Mrs Flood incarnation of the Rani escapes shortly after witnessing her successor's apparent demise. The Rani reveals how she survived the Spy Master's genocide of Gallifrey, and that the genetic explosion caused by the Spy Master had rendered any surviving Time Lords and Time Ladies completely sterile, which was why she enacted her plan to find Omega in order to save their race, though with the purpose of creating a new Gallifrey she could rule over. In addition, her ability to follow the Doctor throughout time and space is revealed to be accomplished by use of a Time Ring rather than a TARDIS. Steph de Whalley also returns as Anita Benn, where it's revealed she began working in the Time Hotel after Joy to the World [+] and had been looking for the Fifteenth Doctor, in doing so archive footage from The Wedding of River Song [+] and Day of the Daleks [+] respectfully would be used to have Anita see the Eleventh and Third Doctors when visiting the events of those stories, before archive footage of Rogue [+] is used when Anita finds an early version of the Fifteenth Doctor during the events of that story. Before departing, Anita would mention "the Boss" who was previously mentioned by Beep the Meep in The Star Beast [+]. In addition to the Doctor's previous incarnations appearing through archive footage, Jodie Whittaker makes a surprise appearance as the Thirteenth Doctor near the end of this story, marking her first appearance since The Power of the Doctor [+]. Most notably, this story was the final chronological appearance of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, with the story ending with his regeneration, caused by him sacrificing his current incarnation in order to bring Poppy back into existence, the Doctor's regeneration in this story was also the first time since The Parting of the Ways [+] in 2005 that the Doctor had regenerated at the end of the current series; in the revived run of the series, starting from The End of Time [+] up to The Giggle [+], the Doctor would be seen regenerating in either Christmas or New Year's specials set in between numbered series. In a twist however, The Reality War and the Fifteenth Doctor's regeneration would end with Billie Piper, having previously portrayed Ninth and Tenth Doctor companion Rose Tyler, being introduced in the final moments of the story, and with her role being left uncredited. Worldbuilding Omega and the Rani The Doctor reveals that Omega is viewed as the Original Sin of the Time Lords who has discovered time travel. He was cast out from Gallifrey because he was insane. Omega has two hearts like all Time Lords. The Underverse is a world of legends, causing Omega to change into the Mad God Titan and become his own legend. After his escape, Omega wanted to become the God of Time and feast upon Time Lords. He also immediately recognises the Doctor. The Rani has her own Time Ring and Sonic Screwdriver. The Mrs. Flood Rani later escapes with the Time Ring. UNIT Susan Triad has build her own Zero Room at UNIT floor minus 10 to use as an escape pod. UNIT can also fight using Parallax Cannons. There are a few glitches in the new world: the border between Norway and Sweden has moved seven miles east. The colour teal is more blue and actor Ernest Borgnine is still alive. Belinda and her family Belinda mentions she has an uncle named Roo living in Kerala. Her mother's name is Lakshmi. She plays a concert in Manchester. Belinda wanted to see the planet Neptune and the Big Bang before departing from the Doctor. Belinda makes the Doctor an uncle to Poppy. She reveals she met Poppy's real father when she was 21 and is named Ritchie Akingbola, though they are separated. Ruby and her family Ruby mentions that during their time together, Conrad never revealed who his father is. Cherry reveals that she likes to play poker and that Joseph is the name of her late husband. The Doctor and the TARDIS The Fifteenth Doctor mentions he can turn the TARDIS into anything. The Doctor has never been to Kerala. He also reveals that in the year 60,000, there is a planet called New New Delhi. The Fifteenth Doctor can punch regeneration energy from his hands into the Time Vortex to alter reality. However this causes him to regenerate. He can still stall the regeneration itself for a short time. The Thirteenth Doctor is unaware of what bi-generation is. The Thirteenth Doctor mentions the TARDIS having "a third strand of phenotype markers that can turn a micro-spasm". Both Doctors hope that they will always wish they had more time before regenerating. The TARDIS remembers the Fugitive Doctor, revealing her on the TARDIS console screen between the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctors. The Fifteenth Doctor is surprised to see the Thirteenth, joking that "normally the other guy shows up". References The Doctor gives The Upside Down from Stranger Things and Narnia as examples about the world hidden below, or "the Underverse". Notes Jodie Whittaker revealed that one of her regrets from her tenure was that she didn't get to interact with Peter Capaldi or David Tennant during the regeneration handovers, as their scenes were filmed separately. So getting to interact with Ncuti Gatwa during his own regeneration handover was special and a highlight of coming back for her cameo. A promotional image of the Doctor and Belinda dancing with a "Happy May Day" banner in the background was released for the episode, but no such scene exists in the final episode. Jodie Whittaker wore a wig for her cameo, as she had long brown hair at the time. Russell T Davies revealed that Jodie Whittaker's codename onset was "Petrol", because he might use it as a companion name in the future. This two-parter formed Block Five of Series 15.

Rob and Scott return to their dialog about modernism, inflation, and F. Scott Fitzgerald's celebrated 1925 novel The Great Gatsby (click here for Part 1). During their conversation, our co-hosts forge connections between the novel's many complications of time and space and the attitudes to money and identity explored in the first part of this mini-series. For instance, they consider The Great Gatsby's unusual manner of imagining the spatial dis/connectedness of West Egg, the ‘Valley of Ashes' and New York City; the strange ways in which characters seem to be passively ‘borne' between these locations; the ambiguous role that bonds of various kinds play in the text; and Nick Carraway's blurry impressionist method of narrating (or accounting for) the events of the story. Along the way, Rob and Scott revisit one of the text's most enduring symbols, the elusive figure of the green light, which burns bright from the end of Tom and Daisy Buchanan's dock on Long Island Sound. Associated both with U.S. money and the marvel of electricity, the novel's green light points to the powers of public provisioning that conduct modern life and serves as a mysterious beacon of hope in which, we're told, Gatsby continues to believe until the end. For Rob and Scott, this green light reveals the novel's “political unconscious,” here understood as the process by which a repressed history of public provisioning nevertheless comes to contour the modern novel's many formal and affective constructions. Finally, our co-hosts point to the U.S. government's mass printing of copies of The Great Gatsby for its G.I.s during WW2, an act of public provisioning that proved foundational for the subsequent widespread popularity of Fitzgerald's book and its canonization of as a classic of American literary modernism. The staff at Site 69 are alerted of an anomalous gas mask that has appeared in a park. The person wearing it appeared out of nowhere, and ran away. The gas mask appears to be a specific soviet style gas mask, no longer in use. However, once someone puts on the mask, they are transported to a horrifying alternate dimension. This dimension is filled with nightmarish creatures and structures.  What is the deal with this gas mask? Where does it take people? What are these creatures in the alternate dimension?
