We love our wonderful celebs, don't we folks! Or, wait, maybe we don't love them! I don't know, I'm going to have to check the list. Now I feel like Santy Claus…but it's only April! Good gravy this is a confusing episode and it's only the description part. Just wait til you get to the listening part of the show. And when you do, what you'll hear is a hell of a lot of laughs, some serious personal insults, and a list of women that teenagers on the computer have decided they don't like. Plus: a Nespresso machine that can shoot out stuff that makes you go to sleep instead (reverse Nespresso), Brandage by Antix, and yet another toilet brush. Just when you think you've seen them all. Another toilet brush. Wahoo! Music for YKS is courtesy of Howell Dawdy, Craig Dickman, Mr. Baloney, and Mark Brendle. Additional research by Zeke Golvin. YKS is edited by Producer Dan. What's up, dudes? I've got the amazing Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to talk about the holiday classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” Shown throughout the ‘80s, the special was a staple during December, and has remained so.In 1988, it was released on VHS, and according to the cover box:“Dr. Seuss is back with his tongue-twisting verse and lighthearted music to delight children of every age. What holiday would be complete without this timeless tale of the mean-spirited Grinch and his feeble attempt to steal the Yuletide celebration of Whoville? The crotchety Grinch with ‘termites in his smile' and ‘garlic in his soul' tries once again to wipe out Christmas for the cheerful Whos, only to discover the true spirit of the holiday season lies beyond his covetous grasp.Narrated by the great Boris Karloff and featuring such musical favorites as ‘You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch' and ‘Trim Up the Tree,' Dr. Seuss' ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas' will warm the most miserly heart. Don't miss this animated confection—it's a perfect festival of fun for the entire family!”Bingle balls? Check. Who flop fluff? Yep. Bizzle binks and wungs? Not sure what they are, but they're here too! Could the Grinch really make that Santy Claus hat and coat, given his skill level and the materials hanging around his Grinch cave? And could he do it all on that old treadle sewing machine? What is a treadle sewing machine anyway?Join playwright Meghan and pattern maker Liza as we discuss the major questions raised by the 1966 animated Christmas Classic, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, including: where does the Grinch get his supplies? Could a dogs tail really go through a sewing machine? As well as a side trip into who really sang "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Hint: it wasn't Boris Karloff...Come for the PSA about not putting straight pins in your mouth, stay for the part where Liza has Meghan try and cut the costume from a hanging curtain, just like the Grinch does in the cartoon!Books read by Liza as research for this episode include Chuck Amuk, the autobiography of Chuck Jones, Becoming Dr. Suess, by Brian Jay Jones, and of course, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, by Dr. Suess. Our instagram is theresnothreadOur email is theresnothread@icloud.com

Please enjoy the students' creativity and the speech group's hard work! *Excerpts from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”* *Instrumental You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch plays in the background on electric guitar* (Target words underlined) And then They'd do something He liked least of all! Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small, Would stand close together, with Christmas bells ringing. They'd stand hand-in-hand. And the Whos would start singing! They'd sing! And they'd sing! AND they'd SING! SING! SING! SING! And the more the Grinch thought of this Who-Christmas-Sing, The more the Grinch thought, “I must stop this whole thing! “Why for fifty-three years I've put up with it now! “I MUST stop this Christmas from coming! …But HOW?” And the Grinch grabbed the tree, and he started to shove When he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove. He turned around fast, and he saw a small Who! Little Cindy-Lou Who, who not more than two. The Grinch had been caught by this tiny Who daughter Who'd got out of bed for a cup of cold water. She stared at the Grinch and said, “Santy Claus, why, “Why are you taking our Christmas tree? WHY?” And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow, Stood puzzling and puzzling: “How could it be so? “It came without packages, boxes or bags!” And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! “Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn't come from a store. “Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!” And what happened then…? Well…in Who-ville they say That the Girnch's small heart Grew three sizes that day! And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight, He whizzed with his load through the bright morning light And he brought back the toys! And the food for the feast! And he… …HE HIMSELF…! The Grinch carved the roast beast! *Instrumental You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch finishes* Jenny: Here's our Letter to Santa. *Letter to Santa with background music featuring bells plays* (Target words underlined) Nanako: Dear Santa, Hey! My name is Michael Hinckley, and I am writing to you with my friends Chuy and PJ. Come to my house! It would make me happy. I know you, Mrs. Claus, and the elves work very hard. I will listen out for you when you say, “Ho ho ho” (three ho's). May I please have two shirts, an iPhone, and one DVD (choose between “Dumb and Dumber” and “South Park: The Movie”). Thank you and Happy Holidays! Love, Chuy, Michael, and PJ Mollie: Thank you again for listening to CECA Star Club's episode of ArtBeat Radio. Hooray for Santy Claus! This week, Mike, Corinne, Cuz, and Nick talk the cult favorite Santa Claus Conquers the Martians! Why do they adore this campy 1964 holiday movie? Also, Nick derails the episode by going into his personal history with this movie.
Gene Autry traditionally had a "Melody Ranch Christmas Party" on his radio show the week of Christmas. On the December 21, 1948 broadcast, Gene opened the show with his new hit, "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)." This was the second time that he performed the song which became a seasonal hit. The lyrics originally written and performed by Gene Autry, with music composed by Oakley Haldeman. Autry's original recording (in which he pronounces Santa Claus as "Santy Claus") was a top-10 hit on the pop and country charts; the song would go on to be covered many times in the subsequent decades. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_Comes_Santa_Claus

S-A-N-T-A-C-L-A-U-S! Hooray for Santy Claus! It's our last Christmas episode of the year, and boy is this one a real slog. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians gained notoriety by being featured on an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and we've gotta say: why? This film is easily the most boring one we've done so far, and because of that, this is our shortest episode yet. Listen to us go through the plot and blinding speed just to get this thing over with. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! You can find us on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play Podcasts. If you want to see more from us, check out the website and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
I had an exciting encounter at Kroger last weekend that reminded me that we can help people without knowing all the details of their circumstances. In this season it's easy to get caught up in family traditions, delicious food, and making out our lists for Santy Claus. All good things, but I challenge you to open your eyes wide and look around for ways to serve other people. It's cliche, but I promise you, giving always feels better than receiving. I love ya'all more than carbs. Thanks so much for listening.
