We're halfway through the month and only 10 days away from Christmas, so it was time to start featuring red, white and green movies on Have You Ever Seen. And for the 701st episode, I'm prattling on about Jim Carrey playing The Grinch. And does he! The rubber-faced Canadian was about as perfect as anybody could have been playing Dr. Seuss' iconic mean one...and he also brought dozens of over-the-top ad libs and wisecracks to the dance. His schtick doesn't always land though and more than a few things in this film just don't make sense in a kids' picture. Also, Chuck Jones' 1966 animated TV special is classic partly for how sweet it is, including the Whos...who are such jerks here. Ron Howard's impersonal (and inferior) take on the big, green grump & his neighbours is just garish, loud and only occasionally funny. Yet this is one of the great change-of-heart stories ever, so there ARE things to like. So load up with a heaping helping of Who Hash and some roast beast as I talk about How The Grinch Stole Christmas. To let me know that you didn't love the audio distortion in this episode, write me an email to complain: haveyoueverseenpodcast@gmail.com. I'm working on improving that. Stay tuned. You can also tweet me (@moviefiend51 on Twi-X) or Sky me (ryan-ellis on Bluesky). Today in 1966 CBS first broadcast a holiday classic, “Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas.” It came to the small screen largely because a giant in the cartoon industry happened to be an old friend of the author. Plus: today in 1998, rocker Alice Cooper opened a rock and sports-themed restaurant and club in Phoenix, Arizona he called Coopers'town, How Dr. Seuss Stole Christmas (Saturday Evening Post) Alice Cooper'stown restaurant is closed after 18 years in downtown Phoenix (AZCentral.com) Backing this show on Patreon is better than hanging out with a seasick crocodile --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/coolweirdawesome/support

This year on this special Christmas edition of The 46 of 46 Podcast i'll be putting an Adirondack twist on the classic "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" with the new story of Crank the Adirondack Hermit. How Crank The Adirondack Hermit Stole ChristmasIn the frost-kissed realm of the Adirondack High Peaks, where snowflakes dance and the north wind speaks,Lived a hermit named Crank, with a heart so small,Scorning the winter hiking season, Christmas and all.Crank's cave overlooked Marcy, with its cap of white,And the MacIntyre range under the moon's soft light."Cursed be the hikers with their festive cheer,Invading my solitude, year after year."But this Christmas Eve, as the stars twinkled with glee,Crank hatched a plan, wicked as could be."I'll steal their merry, their gear, and their feasts,We'll see how they like these unwelcome beasts."Down to Marcy Dam, he slithered with spite,Where campers slept soundly in the frosty night. One by one, he snatched sleeping bags, boots, and sacks,Leaving behind only footprints in the snow's soft tracks. But not content with just one mischievous spree,He thought, "There's more to be done, much more by me."To Lake Colden he went, under the moon's soft glow,Stealing boots and jackets from the slumbering folks below.By the light of his lantern, he worked through the night,Taking what he pleased, but keeping out of their sight.Next to the feldspar lean-to, where hikers dreamt of High Peaks,He stole their maps and compasses, leaving them for weeks."Not a trail will they find, not a path will they know,In circles they'll wander, in the heavy high peak's snow."His heart chuckled as he imagined the morrow,Campers waking to Christmas with sorrow. But as he pilfered and plundered through the silent night,A strange feeling arose, a flicker of light.Amidst his cold caper, he paused to behold,A family sharing a blanket, young and old.Laughing and singing, a carol so sweet,In the face of adversity, they wouldn't admit defeat.Crank's heart, though icy, began to melt,For a warmth like Christmas he'd never felt."These people, they share joy in the face of the cold,Perhaps there's more to Hiking and Christmas than what I've been told."With a newfound resolve, he returned every little bit,Under the glow of the stars on a trail so brightly lit.And as the campers awoke to Christmas Day's light,They found their belongings, their faces bright. But Crank didn't stop with just righting his wrong,He joined the campers, Hiking along.Sharing hot cocoa and stories so grand,In the heart of the wilderness, hand in hand.On Marcy's high summit, Colden's trap dyke,In the MacIntyre range, he now found joy in the hike.No longer just a hermit, hidden from sight,But a friend of the mountains, sharing Christmas delight. He helped a lost hiker find her way to the peak,Shared his knowledge with campers, no longer so bleak. And with every kind deed, Crank's heart grew wide,In the love of the mountains, he now took pride. And so in the Adirondacks, where the wild rivers flow,Lives Crank, once a hermit, in the Christmas glow.Amongst hikers and campers, he shares his tales so grand,A part of the wilderness, forever hand in hand.So if you wander the High Peaks, and a friendly face you seek,Remember old Crank, once so sullen and bleak. In the heart of these mountains, where adventures never cease,Crank found his Christmas spirit, in the Adirondack's sweet peace.Connect on Social Media:Find the podcast on social media @46of46podcastFollow James on instagram @jamesappleton46My Website:WWW.46of46.COMPLANNING TO HIKE THE 46 HIGH PEAKS? We're having a very special conversation this week, specifically about a classic Christmas special! Dr. Seuss' iconic HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS cartoon is ubiquitous in culture, particularly around the holiday season. There have been live action and feature length animated ventures to broaden the story, but there's something very simple and special about that initial cartoon short directed by Chuck Jones. We dive into just what that might be this week, as well as all of the ways we can miss the point amidst our efforts to either claim or protect what we feel Christmas has become. Also featuring a praising patron segment about the wonderful holiday special EMMET OTTER'S JUG-BAND CHRISTMAS, this is a brisk and lively episode we hope you'll really enjoy.4:23 - Business TimePatron Only Segment: EMMET OTTER'S JUG-BAND CHRISTMAS6:28 - HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
What's up, dudes? I've got the amazing Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to talk about the holiday classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” Shown throughout the ‘80s, the special was a staple during December, and has remained so.In 1988, it was released on VHS, and according to the cover box:“Dr. Seuss is back with his tongue-twisting verse and lighthearted music to delight children of every age. What holiday would be complete without this timeless tale of the mean-spirited Grinch and his feeble attempt to steal the Yuletide celebration of Whoville? The crotchety Grinch with ‘termites in his smile' and ‘garlic in his soul' tries once again to wipe out Christmas for the cheerful Whos, only to discover the true spirit of the holiday season lies beyond his covetous grasp.Narrated by the great Boris Karloff and featuring such musical favorites as ‘You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch' and ‘Trim Up the Tree,' Dr. Seuss' ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas' will warm the most miserly heart. Don't miss this animated confection—it's a perfect festival of fun for the entire family!”Bingle balls? Check. Who flop fluff? Yep. Bizzle binks and wungs? Not sure what they are, but they're here too! So grab your faithful sidekick pup, put on your Santy Claus costume, and sleigh right into this episode!‘Tis the PodcastFB: @tisthepodcast Twitter: @tisthepodIG: @tisthepodcast Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com!
