It's Birthday Girl's Choice this week, and in the words of Veronica Randall, some people want everything! We are diving into the 1983 camp classic “The Lonely Lady,” starring the Frances McDormand of the Razzies, Pia Zadora as the tragically determined Jerilee Randall on her sleazy quest for Hollywood fame. Jermaine Jackson und Pia Zadora trohnen mit "When The Rain Begins To Fall" zum vierten Mal in Folge auf Platz 1.
Dennis continues his conversation with TV writer Stan Zimmerman, author of the memoir The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore. In Part 2, Stan talks about working on the Gilmore Girls and learning to write dialogue in the show's unique, fast-paced style. He also talks about the humiliating T-shirt gift he got from Roseanne and Tom Arnold while working on Roseanne, taking random meetings with icons like Diana Ross, Goldie Hawn, Joan Collins and Pia Zadora, being a judge/mentor on the Bravo reality show Situation: Comedy, getting into playwriting and directing theater later in his career and going to Russia to work on the Russian Roseanne and meeting sexy Russians on the gay app Hornet. Other topics include: the holiday movie he wrote for Donna Mills, Loni Anderson, Nicolette Sheridan, Morgan Fairchild and Linda Gray, going to Studio 54 and telling Andy Warhol to stop taking his picture, his natural optimism, the thrill of having his beloved mother come to tapings, and why he wore glasses to pitch meetings when he didn't actually need them. After the interview, Dennis recalls his epic 60th birthday weekend.
Dennis is joined via Zoom by television writer Stan Zimmerman to talk about his memoir The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore, which documents his career working on such iconic shows as Roseanne, The Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls as well as The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel. In this first part of a two-part interview, Stan talks about his midwest upbringing and how his mother bought him the ballet shoes he wanted behind his father's back. He also talks about meeting his longtime writing partner Jim Berg, why they work wll together and how they landed a gig on the first season of The Golden Girls when they were still in their 20's Stan also recalls feeling like he had to stay in the closet on that job but feeling like he had an ally in Estelle Getty. He talks about the culture of fear that was so common in TV writers rooms in those days and expresses hope that things are better today. He also talks fondly about working with director Betty Thomas on the first Brady Bunch Movie as a punch-up writer and feeling like his contribution was finally being properly appreciated...only to end up without a screen credit thanks to an old WGA rule. He also recalls Bea Arthur being concerned that the Golden Girls writing staff was too young, Rue McLanahan being extra funny when she said words ending in E-R, and the eyebrow raising thing Betty White would do when Estelle Getty flubbed her lines. Other topics include: the warm fuzzies Stan gets when he talks with Golden Girls fans, suggesting RuPaul for that cameo in The Brady Bunch Movie, Pia Zadora's giant cell phone and how when it comes to a career in entertainment, it's all about perseverance.

Pia Zadora finally returns to the bin! Yobo, Bobby, new guest Jeff, and Mike discuss this Pia Zadora, Telly Savalas crime caper in Las Vegas. Despite being financed by Pia's then husband, filmed at his hotel (The Riveria), and simply a vehicle for more Pia screen time, this is a strangely enjoyable movie! So grab a Pia-tina and enjoy extended scenes of Telly gambling and grabbing butts. This episode featured some technical difficulties in our first hour. Colin's escape attempt failed, and he's back to making sure Paul behaves himself. This time we've got our dancing shoes on and we're ready to groove with the heavy sounds of, Voyage of the Rock Aliens (1984), the cult American musical starring Pia Zadora and Craig Sheffer. Along the way Colin reminiscences about Dusty Bin, Paul reveals his future Vegas act, and they both help the environment by recycling old jokes.
Les, Kurt, and Jason were so energized by Don Johnson's Heartbeat in the previous episode (the promotional movie moreso than his actual pulse), so they're tackling some more music videos this week. But first, THE Pepper MaShay came to see Les's show, as did Lesley Ann Warren and Lifetime of Hallmark SUPERFAN Samantha (thanks for listening). Then Kurt shares what may be newly specific news about Blac Chyna as it relates to sobriety. Fun fact: Les is kinda dickmatized by Dick van Dyke (a conversation started after a June Squibb spotting). Then it's time to get into 3 different defining (?) music videos of the 80's, starting with Journey's “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” The Sherrie of Steve Perry's “Oh Sherry” almost killed this video, but she doesn't have to because it dies on its own (though without a soundtrack since the instruments keep disappearing). Then, the guys took a look at Slade's “Run Runaway” video, complete with a kilt-wearing dude swinging a giant phallic telephone pole all around a well lit castle while lead singer Noddy Holder is doing… something… with his mouth (Jason has a theory). Finally, Les subjects Jason and Kurt to the Pia Zadora and Jermaine Jackson classic (at least in Europe) “When the Rain Begins to Fall” from Pia's movie Voyage of the Rock Aliens. At least there's a vespa chase and some proximity to peak Michael Jackson. Facebook : alifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com

It's Liotta time! Let's not be miserable he's dead (it's terrible), let's celebrate his career (he was in so much)! Do it with us! Dude was a dang powerhouse actor who straight up brought it to every performance I've seen. Take, for instance, "The Lonely Lady". It's a razzie. The lead actress, Pia Zadora, had this thing built around her by her billionaire husband. It's real weird, wooden, and full of boobs. But? Liotta is in it. And you know what? He is absolutely terrifying. It's like an Olympic runner racing a toddler when you see the few scenes he is in. Is "The Lonely Lady" good? Is it weirdly watchable? Are the ages of people in this confusing and you just don't know what's going on? Is it kind of hot but also befuddling? Can you find us "Crazy Times", the Liotta/David Caruso TV movie that came out before this? Tell your friends and get on the Liotta run. It's a real good time! This week the podcast returns to John Waters as Lee and Leah cover his first and only PG-rated film, "Hairspray" (1988). Does this switch to a more professional and toned-down style hurt Waters' message, or does it just force him to be more creative about how to continue to be over-the-top and subversive in a mainstream production? How does the 2007 adaptation of the "Hairspray" musical match-up? How bloody great was Divine in her final film with Waters? How good was Ricki Lake in her first big role? How do elements of this film connect to an old PSA star Sonny Bono was in? Ric Ocasek and Pia Zadora as beatniks? A lot of the conversation also hits on Drag culture and Divine being a Drag icon still to this day. The hosts also talk about what they've watched as of late. No matter if your a hair-hopper or a weed-smoking beatnik, you're welcome to get naked with us and come listen! Would you be tempted to watch a film where aliens travel around in a space ship in the shape of a Flying V looking for the source of rock and roll in the universe? How about if it involved a high school romance, a battle of the bands, escaped mental patients armed to the teeth, and a polluted lake?Tim, Bernie, Maurice and friend of the show Paul Ryan have done just that.....and had a conversation about it for your aural pleasure.Welcome to episode 93 of See Hear Podcast.Voyage Of The Rock Aliens is a forgotten musical from 1984, made in an era when instead of the MGM musicals of yesteryear, we were presented with Can't Stop The Music and The Apple. Like many musicals from the 70s and 80s, Voyage combines fantastical elements with popular music....at least what was popular in the mid 80s....so synths, Linn drums, big hair and space costumes are the order of business here. Did we mention that Jermaine Jackson appears in the opening minutes of this film for NO REASON AT ALL????When aliens are looking for where rock and roll music is in the universe, they're going to trace it to a town called Speelburgh (ho ho ho) where they hear techno music being sung by Pia Zadora....because, yeah....The film attempts to be a parody of several different styles of film making – is it successful? Download the episode and we'll tell you.Our gratitude to Paul for bringing this suggestion to the show and joining us to discuss it. As Bernie said, “Thanks a bunch, Paul”. Frank and Heather are hunkering down for the great bomb cyclone blizzard of '22 and discussing the legend that is Pia Zadora, men in skirts, and they answer a listener who took actual umbrage. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/heather-whaley6/message
Good morning, Baltimore! Charles is all about 1988's taller hair (especially Debbie Harry's side swoop), period music, and Waters raunch. Joseph prefers the catchy melodies, witty lyrics, and sunny optimism of the movie musical. They agree on Pia Zadora, however. Nature sounds courtesy of Big Island Coqui Frogs. The gang from Police Squad! pulled it together one final time in the spring of 1994 to supply a third film in the Naked Gun series, right before O.J. effectively torpedoed the whole franchise! Sarah & Joe take an extensive look at the entire Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker catalog, from the Kentucky Fried Movie through to the 21st century knock-offs of the genre, while also exploring the mysteries of the Naked Gun movies. Were there actual plans for a fourth film? Does O.J.'s presence sully the enjoyment of these movies? How did Priscilla Presley get cast with such limited acting experience? How similar are the career trajectories for her and Pia Zadora? Is this the best work Anna Nicole Smith ever did? Where is Scientology leader David Miscavige's wife Shelly? And how many songs have been written about Vanna White? It's a pretty wide ranging discussion of the third best Naked Gun film in this week's surreal twentieth episode of It Happened One Year!

Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
In episode 2 of Totally Tell Me Everything -- a monthly podcast hosted by podcasters and friends, Sarah Woloski and Bryn MacKinnon -- we tackle the topic of Space! As always, we've got three questions to ask and answer about this episode's topic, so let's get to it, shall we? Question 1: What is it about space and how did your interest in space begin? Bryn kicks off the conversation (and reveals just how old she really is) with the Space Shuttle program and then quickly diverts us to a downer story about the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster in 1986. Small redemption in the story about seeing the final space shuttle, Endeavor, on its trip to the California Science Center. Sarah saves the day by sharing the very relatable story of building a remarkably accurate model of the solar system in 3rd grade with her engineer father, Peter Heitman, which sparked her interest in the vastness we call space. We talk at length about the excellent space/science/romance movie, “Contact,” starring Jodi Foster and Matthew McConaughey. And let's not forget Sarah and her mother's shared love of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Related links and rabbit holes: Influence of TV shows, films and books about space: E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Star Wars, Apollo 13, Stephen Hawking's “A Brief History of Time,” Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, The Right Stuff, more The Right Stuff The Very Large Array Art and science come together in the music of space: Alan Silvestri, composer of the soundtracks for Contact and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey Pine Cones vs Pine Nuts Question 2: What do we want to learn about space? Interestingly, we both did research on and want to talk about life beyond our planet, but from slightly different angles. Sarah takes deep into the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence, particularly the SETI Institute, the non-profit in Silicon Valley that listens to and analyzes the sounds we can hear from space, with the hope of finding intelligent life out there. SETI was founded 1984, by Tom Pierson and astronomer Jill Tarter, and played a large role in “Contact,” which Sarah assigned Bryn to watch as podcast homework before we recorded this episode. Drake Equation How many habitable planets are there? Arecibo collapse COOL PODCAST ALERT: The Science of Sci-Fi Podcast, with Erin MacDonald While Sarah dove into the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, Bryn looked into communication with extraterrestrial intelligence, or CETI. Arecibo message Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence by Lambros D. Callimahos at the NSA Do we need a special language to talk to aliens? How do you communicate with an intelligent entity you know nothing about? Or with whom you have no common cultural background? TANGENT: Bryn explores some examples of this that we already have on Earth: Plants and animals communicate in ways that we have been able to observe or participate in Trees Bees Dogs can learn "talk" Apes using sign language Question 3: What are you excited about regarding space? Sarah can't wait to get involved in space research, and you can, too! SETI's Planet Patrol: You can inspect stars from home and help with SETI's research Citizen Science for NASA: Collaborate with NASA scientists on many different projects from your cell phone or laptop. She blames the pandemic. Final Thought: We wrap it up by revisiting Bryn's husband's statement that space exploration is the manifestation of our biggest dreams, goals and questions as humans. Space exploration, whether up there in rockets, shuttles and space stations or from down here on our home planet, captures and expands our imaginations. It is ambitious, dangerous, difficult and risky. But as Ellie Arroway's father says in the movie “Contact” when she asks him if he thinks there's people on other planets: “I don't know, Sparks. But I guess I'd say if it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space.” Thank you for joining us for this episode of Totally Tell Me Everything. We're so happy to share this space and time with you.
