I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 8th of October, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to Psalms 91:1, and today I'll be reading it out of the Amplified Version of the Bible. It says:”He who dwells in the shelter of the Most HighWill remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].”Yes, that shelter we are talking about is our quiet time every morning, in our special place, wherever that might be, spending time in the presence of the Lord, praying, reading the word of God, meditating, and then we are strong enough to go out. I received a beautiful poem just the other night, we were having a prayer time up in the chapel and my son Dougal said, ”I want to read something to you.” He got it out of a Scripture Union booklet, that was printed in the 1950's but listen to this poem. It's called The Secret:I met God in the morning when my day was at it's best And His presence came like sunrise, like a glory in my breast. All day long the presence lingered, all day long He stayed with me And we sailed in perfect calmness over a very troubled sea. Other ships were blown and battered, other ships were sore distressed But the winds that seemed to drive them brought to us a peace and rest. Then I thought of other mornings with a keen remorse of mindWhen I too had loosed the moorings with the presence left behind. So I think I know the secret learned from many a troubled way. You must seek Him in the morning if you want Him through the day.Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Scripture Union Ministries Trust has been active on the Island for some 40 years - helping young people to explore issues of faith for themselves. Now it's no longer in partnership with SU in England and Wales, but stands alone as part of Scripture Union International - and they have a new Chief Executive. While studying as an engineer he was invited to hear the American evangelist, Billy Graham, in London, 1954. That night John responded to God's call and made his commitment to Jesus Christ at age eighteen. Shortly thereafter, he felt God calling him into full-time service as a pastor. He came to the United States in 1964; combining his love for young people with his musical ability he formed one of the first Christian contemporary music groups known as the Exkursions. For the next four years John used music to draw young people to meetings where thousands of them heard for the first time the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. One of John's first jobs in the United States was with Scripture Union where he and his wife Kathy helped to lead C.S.S.M. beach outreaches. In 1968, he became the Minister of Youth at St. Stephen's Church in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and four years later the senior pastor. Recognizing the gifts God has given him for evangelism, in 1990 St. Stephen's set him free to conduct city-wide evangelistic rallies across America. John has spoken to over 1,000,000 people face to face. He now serves at Christ Church at Grove Farm in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. John is the author of ten books. He co-founded Trinity Episcopal School of Ministry and was a participant in the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism and a board member of the National Association of Evangelicals. He founded the Coalition for Christian Outreach, an evangelistic organization employing approximately 150 staff on college campuses. In those guides, Mary read about the SuperKids® outreach programs, and decided to check it out by joining a team at Dewey Beach. Shortly after that Mary helped Trinity Church in Whitinsville launch their first mission in 2004. As a Christian public school teacher, Mary always prayed for students, families, and colleagues to see Christ in her. But the reality that children knew less and less about things related to God, set the stage for her to leave teaching after 17 years in order to become Scripture Union field staff. Um das Land so genießen zu können, wie er es beabsichtigt hatte, musste Israel ein gehorsames Volk sein. Deshalb gab Mose den Israeliten die praktischen Anweisungen, um sie für das Leben in Kanaan vorzubereiten (V. 1-2). Das hebräische Wort für »ein einiger« (Elb) in Vers 4 ist bedeutsam, wenn man es im Licht der volleren Offenbarung des Neuen Testaments sieht. Es steht nicht für absolute Einheit, sondern für zusammengesetzte Einheit und steht damit im Einklang mit den beiden Namen Gottes, die in diesem Vers verwendet werden. Jahwe (Herr) betont sein Einssein. Elohim (Gott) betont seine drei Personen. Dieselben geheimnisvollen Andeutungen der Dreiheit in der Einheit kommen im ersten Vers der Bibel vor, wo das Wort »Elohim« (Plural) zusammen mit einem Verb im Singular erscheint (»erschuf«). She's written a few books and has contributed to LICC Connecting with Culture. She has also written for Stewardship, Bible Society, Scripture Union, and BRF. Jo was the Director of Church Communications at CPO, a charity existing to help churches and other charities with their communication. Currently, she is the Director of Communications for A Rocha International.  Jo has a recent book titled “A Place at the Table: Faith, Hope and Hospitality” which is  about encouraging one another to foster communities and how universally human it is to share food and share life.  In this episode, Somer and Jo Swinney talk about the upcoming Holiday season--this is typically the time we gather together for dinner and hospitality. Jo reminds us that our lives, not just the holidays, should reflect Jesus' hospitality. It doesn't need to be big, extravagent dinners with immaculate houses. Chris O, as she is affectionately known by many, is someone who is passionate about her love for Jesus, and she is super enthusiastic about seeing young people move closer to trusting in Jesus. In this face-to-face conversation, host Tori Walker finds out how playing volleyball led Chris to ask those deep philosophical questions that ended with her trusting in Jesus for her salvation. Chris talks about the significant role that Scripture Union has played in her life, and her work as a school chaplain, both the formal aspects and the ‘creative loitering' that she engages in.   EPISODE NOTES: Chris O'Gorman grew up in Brisbane and trained as a Maths/Science teacher at the University of Queensland. After teaching for three years in the government system, she joined the staff of Scripture Union Queensland and worked as a Schools Ministry Worker, setting up and resourcing voluntary Christian groups in schools, running a vacation camping programme, and helping set up chaplaincy in government schools.  After 12 years at SU Queensland, Chris went back teaching Maths, Science and Christian Education at Brisbane Boys' College. She was also on the pastoral care team at BBC as a Head of House and remained at BBC for 11 years. In 2007, Chris was appointed as Senior Chaplain at Somerville House, where she is kept busy teaching Christian Education, taking Chapel Services and assembly devotions, pastoral care, and developing the Christian life of the school, amongst other things.  Chris is passionate about helping people to connect more closely with Jesus Christ, and to understand God's grace as expressed through Christ's life, death and resurrection. Her life and ministry is driven by the motto “Know Jesus and make Him Known”.
