Ahead of the final week of racing, it's still all to play for. We've got the mega-talented young Isaac Del Toro holding onto the Maglia Rosa, bookies' favourite Primoz Roglič dropping out of contention, and a handful of riders poised to go all out to try and unseat UAE's dominance before the finish in Rome. Tom Southam's been called up to bat for EF Education Easypost, so he's cruising around Italy in the team car, and he's already netted a pair of stage wins with Richard Carapaz and Kasper Asgreen! With Southam away, we've had a bit of a roster change for this month's Race Communique; we're joined by my old mate and fellow ex-professional, Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe sports director, the Flying Mullet himself - that's right, it's Shane Archbold. Shane'o joins me and Luke Durbridge - fresh off the back of the Tour of Hungary - to dissect the racing so far at the Giro and speculate what we might see in this last week of racing.  The Giro is known for being a pretty chaotic race, and the 2025 edition is no different. So far, we've seen some amazing stages, and the GC storyline has been incredible, too. From guys like Luke Plapp - the Plappinator - finally getting his hands in the air in Europe, Wout van Aert completing a monster comeback on the Strade Bianche gravel stage in dominant fashion, and unsung hero Daan Hoole taking some massive scalps in the stage 10 time trial. UAE are gripping the pink jersey pretty tightly, but guys like Simon Yates, Richard Carapaz, and our old mate Derek Gee are creeping up behind him, not to mention his own teammate Juan Ayuso waiting in the wings. Sadly for Shane, his Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe team are having some pretty rotten luck. First, they lost Jai Hindley - a former Giro winner - in the first week to a crash on the wet, slippery roads of Naples. Then, Dani Martinez, last year's runner-up, slipped out of the GC and hasn't looked like his former self so far. Of course, they went into the race with the defending champion Primoz Roglič, whose GC bid looks to be over after a brutal day of racing over the Monte Grappa. It's not all doom and gloom for Bora, though; young Italian super domestique Giulio Pellizzari has shown a hell of a lot of promise so far, and no doubt has a bright career ahead of him. In this week's PeloChat, Durbo shines the spotlight on XDS Astana and their ongoing hunt for UCI points to avoid being relegated at the end of the season. A change in tactics from the Kazakh team means they're no longer racing for the win, which sounds absolutely crazy for a pro cycling team. Instead, they're trying to stack the top 10 with riders to scrape together as many UCI points as they can. They've managed to claw themselves back up the team rankings and away from the relegation zone, putting other teams at risk and giving us fans a whole other narrative to follow this season. In this episode I chat to a former colleague of mine at Slipstream Sports, the management company behind the professional cycling team that's been known over the years as Garmin, Cannondale and most recently EF Pro Cycling. Dr Kevin Sprouse is a rare breed of both medical MD and exercise physiologist and has worked closely with riders like David Millar, David Zabriske, Christian Vandevelde through to the current crop of EF riders like Lachlan Morton, Ben Healy, Rigoberto Uran and Richard Carapaz. Kevin also runs a private practice working with high performance athletes across a variety of sports and high level amateurs and weekend warriors who want the same level of medical care and performance support that the pro's get. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP This episode is supported by our friends at The Escape Collective A little later than usual, but we are back this week with a hot-off-the-press Race Communiqué.  The Tour de France is the only race on the calendar where, myself and my two regular podcast guests, Luke Durbridge and Tom Southam are all on the ground at the same time.  After a month on the road doing our respective jobs at the race, we sat down and caught up on all of the action and shared our perspectives on the race.  While I was hitting the road every day with the press and sometimes doubling up doing the odd bidon hand up, Luke was guiding his team sprinter Dylan Groenewegen to his 6th TDF stage win for Jayco Alula, and Tom was behind the wheel of the team car helping Richard Carapaz and EF Education Easypost light up the race in the mountains in the final week.  It was an eventful race for all of us, and we wanted to catch up about the things that had stuck in our minds, from the great tactics, to the mood and the dynamics in the grupetto plus of course, plenty of insight on the things that you wouldn't have seen on TV or read about in the press.  This pod is always a fun one to make, but this one is packed with great stories, not to mention revealing our strategies for the Escape Collective Fantasy Tour, and of course, no Race Communiqué would be complete without a quiz.  Time to grab a cold one, and finally relax after an action packed month.  Cheers!  Mitch

La última etapa, prueba individual contra reloj, con salida en Mónaco y llegada en Niza, fue protagonizada como previsto por los mejores ciclistas de la clasificación general. Sin sorpresas, ganó de forma aplastante el líder Tadej Pogaçar, con Jonas Vingegaard en segunda posición y Remco Evenepoel en tercer lugar, orden idéntico al podium final. Pogaçar hace historia ganando 6 etapas y sobre todo llevándose el doble Giro y Tour, algo que no se veía desde el año 1998 con Marco Pantani.  Remco Evenepoel ganó el maillot blanco de mejor joven, Biniam Girmay el verde de la regularidad y Richard Carapaz la clasificación de la montaña. El mejor equipo fue el equipo de Pogaçar, UAE.

Etapa de transición hoy con final difícil, ideal para cazadores de etapas desde una escapada, y así ocurrió! Un grupo grande de más de 40 ciclistas se fugaron y en la penúltima subida del día, Richard Carapaz atacó, alcanzó a varios ciclistas que ya iban por delante y llegó en solitario el la línea de meta en Superdevoluy, atribuyéndose la victoria de etapa.  En el grupo de los favoritos, que llegó con varios minutos de retraso sobre los escapados, Remco Evenepoel pudo ganar unos segundos sobre Pogaçar y sobre todo Jonás Vingegaard.

The Tour always throws up a few good surprises, and stage 3 came with two. Caley, Jonny, Joshua Robinson of the Wall Street Journal, and then Ronan (accidentally) on in Torino and chat Biniam Girmay, Richard Carapaz, and Mark Cavendish. 

La etapa más larga del Tour, de 230kms, no tuvo sorpresa referente al desenlace final, se llegó en un sprint de pelotón, y fue el flamante ciclista de Eritrea, Biniam Ghirmay quien se llevó la victoria.  En un final muy muy rápido hubo varios incidentes y caídas pero Ghirmay supo mantenerse en buena posición y adelantó a Fernando Gaviria y Arnaud Delie en los metros finales. También vimos un cambio de liderato en la general con Richard Carapaz vistiéndose de amarillo por primera vez en su carrera.  Estamos a la espera de la primera gran cita en la alta montaña en la única etapa en los Alpes con la terrible subida del Col du Galibier al final de la etapa.

Det har været en Tour-åbning ud over det sædvanlige. Første gang det store franske etapeløb starter i Italien, vinder to forskellige franskmænd de to første etaper, hvilket ikke er sket siden 1961. Jonas Vingegaard besvarede alle Pogacars italienske angreb og er indtil videre i kontrol, trods en bøvlet optakt. Bøvlet blev det for alvor for Casper P, der på dagens sprinteretape styrtede og brækkede kravebenet. Til gengæld er der jubel i Ecuador, da Richard Carapaz sikrede sydamerikanerne den første gule trøje i nationens historie. Første Tour-etapesejr i Eritreas historie blev det også til, da Biniam Girmay overraskende vandt den første sprinteretape efter et styrt i finalen.
