Our guest today, Dan Nobles, was a Colonel in the Army, working out of the Pentagon, when he quit and went to Seminary School. I think I've rarely heard of such a drastic change of scenery. Vowing never to hike again after he left the military, his brother coaxed him back into it and he found the solace on the trail that he needed. Dan has some fascinating takes on many topics in this interview and, as the Wandering Monk, he has an informative YouTube channel that visits lesser-known trails. You can find his channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD5jYEV7mSM2AV5VdQ1gLSQ We catch up with two of our Mighty BLue Class of 2023 today. Mark Carpenter and Mary Miles are two of our surviving members. This week, Mark shares his stories about the sapping heat and dreadful weather in New England, while Mary reflects upon the loss of her hiking companion. Our last two interviews today are with John Dupras and Kim Mondonedo. John is a friend and fellow member from the AT Class of 2019, and he is taking part in an epic Ohio Bike ride, the Ragbrai, raising money on behalf of multiple sclerosis, a devastating disease. John shares his story of a friend with the disease, Fizzy (pictured below). If his story resonates with you, please support this selfless act and donate to the cause at https://mssociety.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=371285 You can also find out more on the race itself by visiting https://ragbrai.com/ Our last guest today is Kim Mondonedo, who met one of our Class of 23, Joanne Flagg, in difficult circumstances. Kim wanted to share her story, and we're honored to include it today. If you'd like to find out more about "Then The Hail Came," check out George's website at https://georgesteffanos.webador.com/ . You can also find George's book on Amazon at this link. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QFG4ZR6. I often ask listeners for ideas on who to interview, and I'm sure several of you say, “I could do that. I've got an awesome story to tell.” You're the person we need to hear from. If you'd like to be interviewed on the podcast, just register as a guest on the link below, and I'll be in touch. Dr. Gorman has held the Raymond E. Brown Chair in Biblical Studies and Theology since 2012. He has taught at St. Mary's since 1991, first in St. Mary's Ecumenical Institute and then, beginning in 1993, in both the Ecumenical Institute and the Seminary (School of Theology). He's a New Testament scholar who specializes in the theology and spirituality of the apostle Paul, the Gospel of John, the book of Revelation, and the theological and missional interpretation of Scripture. He is the author of nearly twenty books and numerous articles, including the one we discuss in this podcast (one of my favorites on Revelation): Reading Revelation Responsibly: Uncivil Worship and Witness: Following the Lamb into the New Creation.

Victoria and Sarah met while working at JC Penny in Coon Rapids and have been friends ever since. Born in California and stayed there for a whole six weeks before moving to Minnesota. After her dad got arrested (details in the podcast) at the University of Minnesota, the family was forced to regroup which included sneaking out of Minnesota in the middle of the night. Later in life, Victoria's dream was to become a doctor, which leads to a lovely story about the college she chose. Not to be missed. Shortly after starting college, she decided med school would not be in her future, so she began a search for a purpose. A search that landed on helping families going through childbirth.  She became a doula which provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support during the birthing process. As fulfilling as that was, she missed family and made a move back to Minnesota. And that's where her real story begins. A car ride message from God changed her path.

Being raised in the Lutheran religion, Maren's world view was narrowed to the belief system she was raised with until after College.  An experience in Lutheran seminary school caused her to leave and then her spiritual seeking journey really began. Seeing Jesus in the hallway didn't seem to fit into the religion of her childhood. Maren Aspaas is a Spiritual Health Practitioner and Mindfulness instructor.  She has been working in hospitals, and more specifically psychiatric hospitals for over 18 years.  Having been raised in the midwest in a small farming town, Maren bugged out of the U.S. soon after college and lived in Japan for three years.  She has left her Lutheran Christian roots to study Andean Shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism, but is most at home with mysticism.  Maren has a growing private practice of spiritual life coaching and mindfulness coaching:  Primordial Love.  Maren fills her life with the excellent company of her fellow humans, time in nature, good food, poetry and music.Find Maren online: www.primordiallove.commaren@primordiallove.com"Love is the source of all things."  - MarenFind Sean and Corrine on Social Media:IG: Corrine Champigny, TurningPoints_Podcast, theseanronFB: Corrine Champigny, Turning Points PodcastYouTube: Corrine Champigny, Turning Points PodcastWebsites: www.blissed.com, www.theivyhouse.org, www.globalwatchfoundationchildrenshome.org

•    I went to the Baptist church with my friends, because my closer friends went to the Baptist church, so that's where I ended up going because I wanted to hang out. And honestly, I was kind of in love with one of the coaches, Coach Roger's, which is kind of funny, but I was really obsessed with him. (1:60)•   So quickly in my mind and just the reality that I had just changed, it changed what it felt like in an instant, but it really wasn't. It was because I had been doing so much seeking and so much... just like different bottle studies or volunteering. I was doing a lot of different things in the spiritual world, and so it kind of just felt like it happened at once, but it was through my daily activity. (2:59)•    I even actually started looking at Buddhism at one point. I started looking at a book called beginner's book of Buddhism, and it was very interesting to me. I was like, Oh my gosh, I want to be a Buddha, because it was very cool. And I always thought I was going to go to hell if I looked at anything about the Buddha, because I thought... Honestly, I thought Buddhism was, I bow down to the Buddha and then I thought I would go to hell. (6:27)•    I discovered something else, it's like you keep discovering new things, the more that you ask to see... I always say, have eyes to see and ears to hear, and when you do that, your level of awareness increases. Some of the things that you may have looked at in the past, if you look at today, you've changed, your eyes have changed, your ears of changed, you can hear different things, and so based on what you become aware of. I just think that's so cool, because now I look at stuff and I'm like, Oh my gosh, that is so amazing, and I didn't even see that before, but I see it now. From Seminary School to Murder Mystery NovelistWilliam Turner's InterviewWilliam Turner spent his formative years in New England. He was educated in the private, parochial school system, and is presently retired from State service (State of California), as a supervisor. He has one son (Ontonio), and three grandchildren. His grandson is serving in the United States Air Force. His daughter-in-law, Bridgette, is a practicing pediatrician.William had aspired--so long ago--to be a priest but felt at the time he had not been exposed enough to life to walk away and close the monastery door. His subsequent exposure to life sullied him beyond any aspiration to the priesthood. William now lives in Lancaster, California, spending much of his time doing penance, reflecting on his countless errors in judgment.William's penchant for writing mysteries stems from his exposure to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories and those of Agatha Christie. His mentor was Sister Agnes Bernard--his high school English teacher. For more information connect with us on social media:Facebook = https://www.Facebook.com/ChrisBuscher87Instagram = https://www.instagram.com/pastor_chris_buscherApple Podcast = https://apple.co/2FjbES2

Download Episode Here For the holiday season, BPE brings you our first rebroadcast with the one and only Santa Claus himself, recorded in 2016 at Santa's Hideaway Hollow. This episode will take you back to the early days of BPE, when we were using less than ideal equipment. We tried to improve the quality for this year, but if anything, it certainly makes us appreciate our new equipment and how far we've come. Alex and Molly traveled far and wide for this, their first remote episode, and made their way to Santa’s Hideaway Hollow to visit St. Nick himself. Just in time for the holidays, tune in to find out how Santa chose his career path and listen in as he takes a phone request from someone on his nice list. Hear about the thousands of sick children he has visited along the way. As an added bonus you may even find out where French Bread Pizza comes from (it’s not France!). Join us and get in the holiday spirit with Santa’s friend Bill on location in Middlefield, Ohio.
