On this episode of America at Night with McGraw Milhaven, legal analyst and St. Louis University law professor Greg Willard, a former White House staff assistant in the Ford administration, broke down the Supreme Court's ruling on tariffs. Willard explained what the decision means for executive authority, trade policy, and how future administrations may use—or be limited by—tariff powers. Later, Matt Poppleton, Executive Director of Wild Rivers Conservancy, joined the show for the weekly national parks segment to spotlight the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Poppleton discussed the riverway's environmental significance, conservation efforts, and why protecting one of the nation's first federally designated wild and scenic rivers remains vital for future generations. 878 Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/878 Presented by: Smitty's Fly Box, Intrepid Camp Gear, Stonefly Nets, Togiak River Lodge Today, we're digging into how fly rods are really designed. Not the marketing side, but what really goes into the design, the testing, and why some rods last for decades while others fall apart. Zac Dalton from St. Croix Rods is on the podcast today, and he walks us through how fly rods are designed from the ground up. We talk about rod action and why faster is not always better, what durability really means for anglers who fish hard, and how different actions change the way a rod fishes and casts. We also get into cork, handles, and we even touch on the conventional side toward the end. Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/878

When his mother suffered a stroke in 2018, Matthew Stepaniak wanted to find a way to keep her active both physically and mentally. As an avid cyclist himself, Matthew had the idea to bring cycling to those who couldn't otherwise enjoy it themselves. So he teamed up with Darren Dobier and the two co-founded Limitless Cycling, which helps individuals of all abilities enjoy the outdoors through the power of a bike ride. On this week's episode of St. Croix Stories, learn more about the origins of Limitless Cycling, hear about Matthew's knack for taking care of others (both as the primary caregiver for his 91-year-old mother and through his work with Limitless Cycling), and learn about the impressive bikes and other vehicles that Limitless Cycling is bringing to riders all throughout the St. Croix Valley and beyond. On a visit to the U.S. Virgin Islands in winter 2018, we took the pulse of the national music of St. Croix – quelbe. Rarely recorded, rarely exported, quelbe is an energetic form, led by sax or flute with percussion and banjo, and it fuels the traditional dance style, quadrille. St Croix is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, and sits alone 42 miles south of St. Thomas and St. John. That's part of why traditional music and dance forms have remained strong on St. Croix. Meet bandleaders Stanley Jacobs of Stanley and the 10 Sleepless Knights, and Dmitri Copemann of the Renaissance Band, who are cultivating a vibrant next generation. Produced by Marika Partridge and Banning Eyre APWW #782

Part 2 - It's the Table Talk with Rocky Liburd, Willard Tutein and Neville James as they analyze Virgin Islanders who have made significant contributions to baseball and passionate support on St Croix and St Thomas.
Rikk and Chris take you deep inside the intense world of DEA and island operations, where every decision could mean life or death. From heart-pounding shootouts to the unseen psychological toll of pulling the trigger, Rikk shares his earliest encounters with violence in law enforcement and the crucial role of agency support after traumatic incidents. The conversation then transports listeners to the island of St. Croix, where the DEA waged war against drug traffickers in daring missions like Operation Limpia Casa and Operation Beach Party. These missions weren't just about chasing cartel leaders—they revealed the ingenuity, grit, and resourcefulness required to outsmart criminals in unpredictable environments.
Guests Liz Pechaceh, Ani Kasten, Lisa Orr, and Rose Hardesty join Ryan and Rachelle to discuss the 2025 St. Croix Pottery Tour, making pots, and workshops.
From the early days of the police academy to life-or-death moments on the streets, Chris and Rikk share raw and unfiltered stories of courage, sacrifice, and betrayal. You'll hear firsthand accounts of undercover operations gone wrong, shocking encounters with corrupt officers, and the devastating impact of the drug trade on the community. These are the untold stories that expose the brutal realities of police work and the human cost of fighting crime. The conversation dives deep into operational security, the complexities of infiltrating violent criminal networks, and the aftermath of split-second decisions—including shootouts that forever changed lives. It's an emotional, powerful journey through the front lines of justice, corruption, and survival.

There are across the country more than 430 units of the National Park System. And no doubt, most of us are only familiar with the so-called name brand parks. Places like Shenandoah, Acadia, Everglades, Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon… But just because you're not already familiar with a park unit doesn't mean you should write it off your to-do list. While I am familiar with the names of most park units due to my day job, I haven't had the chance to visit them all just yet. Being a lover of water and paddling, when I consider going for a break from the keyboard, I often have a requirement that water is required. And while I haven't been there yet, I am intrigued by St. Croix National Scenic Riverway in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and its two rivers. Today I'm going to learn a little bit more about this interesting park and share with you my conversation with Nate Toering, the park's Director of Communications and Education.
