Giannis Antetokounmpo told the New York Times' Tania Ganguli that the Milwaukee Bucks need to be contending for championships for him to extend his contract next summer. Rohan Katti and Ti Windisch of the Gyro Step were not surprised, because this is exactly how Giannis treated his last contract extension negotiation as well, which led to the Bucks trading for Jrue Holiday, re-signing Giannis, and winning a championship in 2021. Rohan and Ti discussed why Giannis not signing an extension this year is logical financially, how loyalty demands max effort from both star player and their organization, some names Milwaukee could target with their three trade-able first round picks next offseason, and how even the loyal NBA stars used similar leverage to ensure their teams kept competing for titles every season. Host Beto Duran explores the recent NBA drama in Los Angeles, examining the Lakers not meeting anyone's pre-season expectations and the Clippers exploring a new home away from Staples Center. Tania Ganguli, Lakers beat reporter, discusses the pulse of the team and interviews Rajon Rondo. When the NBA's marquis franchise and marquis superstar joined forces, expectations were set and not many people (players, execs, fans) feel they are being met. How did this happen and is there still hope for this season? Also, Tania sat down with PG Rajon Rondo to see how his season is going and shares her one-on-one interview on this episode. Later, Nathan Fenno joins the podcast to discuss the recent court filing involving the owner of the Clippers, the owner of the Forum, and the mayor of Inglewood. It's a bit of a tangled web and Nathan joins the show to help explain what is happening, including a key discovery he made as a journalist covering this story since it broke.
Host Beto Duran welcomes Brad "BT" Turner and Dan Woike to the podcast to recap recent Lakers news including the non-deal with the Pelicans, the tampering allegations, and how Magic Johnson and LeBron James navigate in a different orbit from the rest of their contemporaries.
