Follow us on X: @PhilBryantMS @americasrt1776 @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Governor Phil Bryant, the State of Mississippi's 64th governor, former lieutenant governor, state auditor, legislator in the Mississippi House of Representatives and chairman of the Southern States Energy Board. Phil Bryant is a founding member of BSS Global where he provides strategic advice and business development services to some of the world's largest industry leaders. He serves on the executive advisory board of International Leaders Summit. America's Roundtable conversation with Governor Bryant brings to the forefront key policy issues including trade and tariffs, the urgency to advance tax reform, unleash energy independence and protect America's sovereignty. The timely discussion is focused on President Trump's policies and executive orders — and what it means for America's citizens, taxpayers, local communities and states. Further reading: Magnolia Tribune | Vice President Vance touts ‘Mississippi Miracle,' calls the education reform “pretty incredible” (https://magnoliatribune.com/2025/04/08/vice-president-vance-touts-mississippi-miracle-calls-the-education-reform-pretty-incredible/) Brief excerpt from the article: “This is pretty incredible,” Vice President Vance wrote on X. “Smart education reform drastically improved Mississippi's schools.” The reforms began in 2012 under then-Governor Phil Bryant (R), Lt. Governor Tate Reeves (R) and Speaker Philip Gunn (R). As previously noted by Laurie Todd-Smith in a 2023 Magnolia Tribune column on the making of the “Mississippi Miracle,” only 33 percent of third graders and 32 percent of 8th graders were reading proficiently on state tests that year. She led the governor's education policy team and is now the Assistant Secretary for Early Childhood Education at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Bryant presented lawmakers with an education vision titled “Framing Mississippi's Future” and in 2013, reforms such as the Literacy Based Promotion Act (3rd Grade Reading Gate), the Pre-K Collaborative, the Mississippi Charter School Act, Dyslexia Education Scholarships, and more were passed and signed into law. Mississippi unites with Israel at Jerusalem Leaders Summit (https://www.jns.org/mississippi-unites-with-israel-at-jerusalem-leaders-summit/) Jerusalem | Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant bounded on stage and, in his obvious Southern drawl, greeted the guests of the Jerusalem Leaders Summit, which took place last month at the Inbal hotel. Bryant was presented with the Distinguished Leadership Award for his efforts to strengthen the Israel-U.S. strategic partnership. He is a strong Israel advocate and his emotions were on full display when he addressed the crowd. “We have so many friends around the world,” he said, “but none as close, and none that I love more than Israel. I am called to be here. Perhaps sometimes we cannot explain exactly why, but that call, that voice, is stronger than any other that we hear, to come to Israel, to Jerusalem, to do what I can to strengthen this relationship.” The Third Jerusalem Leaders Summit held from Nov. 18-20, proved a unique event featuring leading voices who articulated principled solutions in addressing the 21st-century's economic concerns, global threats and security challenges. The parent organization—the International Leaders Summit, co-founded by Joel Anand Samy and Natasha Srdoc—brought together leaders from America, Britain, continental Europe, India and Israel to its inaugural Jerusalem Leaders Summit event in 2015, affirming the rule of law of civilization, based on shared principles and values. americasrt.com (https://americasrt.com/) https://summitleadersusa.com/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 X: @PhilBryantMS @americasrt1776 @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. Today Dan and Ellen talk to Peter Bhatia.  Bhatia is a Pulitzer Prize-winning editor who is now chief executive officer of the Houston Landing, a nonprofit, non-partisan, no-paywall local news site that launched in spring of 2023. He has also been editor and vice president at the Detroit Free Press, from 2017-2023, and served as a regional editor for Gannett, supervising newsrooms in Michigan and Ohio. His resume includes helping lead newsrooms that won 10 Pulitzer Prizes. He is the first journalist of South Asian heritage to lead a major daily newspaper in the U.S. He has also been involved in some recent controversies. There's much to talk about. In Quick Takes, Dan talks about an important press-freedom case in Mississippi. The former governor, Phil Bryant, is suing Mississippi Today over its Pulitzer Prize-winning series on a state welfare scandal that got national attention and even managed to touch former NFL quarterback Brett Favre. Bryant says he needs access to Today's internal documents in order to prove his libel case, and a state judge has agreed. Mississippi Today has decided to take the case to the state Supreme Court. It's a risk, because it will set a precedent in the Magnolia State — for better or worse. Ellen highlights an interview with Alicia Bell, the director of the Racial Equity in Journalism Fund at Borealis Philanthropy. Bell talked to Editor & Publisher about her upcoming report on what it will take to build a thriving local news ecosystem for BIPOC communities across the country. Her estimate: it will take somewhere between $380 million to $7.1 billion annually to truly fund BIPOC journalism across the U.S. That's a big number, but Borealis is a pioneer in this space, and it's important research as national efforts like Press Forward roll out.

Nucor Steel looks to women and recovery program graduates to help fill 800 job openings. A new disc golf course transforms an old flood plain in Ceredo. And the Charleston Coliseum and Convention center sets new venue records--#YesWV!...on today's daily304. #1 – From METRO NEWS – Nucor Steel West Virginia Vice President and General Manager John Farris says he has no doubt the large steelmaker will be able to fill the 800 permanent jobs that will be created with the completion of the $3 billion sheet steel plant to be under construction soon in Mason County. Farris said one of the goals is to target more women for employment. “We're currently putting together an RFQ (Request for Qualifications) to have on-site child care,” Farris said on MetroNews “Talkline.” “At the premise of that is we want to encourage more women to choose steelmaking as a career and obviously that's (on-site child care) going to appeal to families at large.” Farris said Nucor has also been engaged with the state's Jobs and Hope program that helps those coming out of substance use disorder get jobs along with ongoing talks with Marshall Addictive Medicine for second chance employment. Jobs will be posted on Nucor's website, www.nucor.com/westvirginia. Read more: https://wvmetronews.com/2023/10/25/nucor-employment-goals-include-hiring-more-women-and-working-with-recovery-programs/   #2 – From WCHS-TV –  A new outdoor recreation option is now available in Wayne County thanks to a major land reclamation project in the form of an 18-hole disc golf course. The new track – located at 1597 B Street – is an anomaly in the Mountain State as the landscape is relatively flat, but heavily wooded fairways and sheer length provide ample challenge for advanced disc golfers. The Wayside Disc Golf Course was designed by West Virginia Disc Golf Hall of Famers Johnny Sias and Phil Bryant. The land remained unused for years as part of a flood plain of the Ohio River, but local officials and volunteers saw value in the property. Ceredo Mayor Paul Billups expects the course to make an economic impact as players stop at restaurants, gas stations and area businesses. He said Ceredo's newest addition also pairs well with the town's ballfield and pickleball courts, giving residents and visitors another option for recreation and physical activity. Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin joined the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Board to make the announcement. Earlier this month the complex hosted three sold-out shows and one at 90 percent capacity in the span of one week, resulting in new venue records being set. “Two and a half years ago we decided to change the way we operate the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Complex. Through our continued partnership with OVG360 we have seen more big-name concerts, comedy shows, family events and – more folks packing the Coliseum and Convention Center and the Municipal Auditorium,” Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said.  “Now, more than ever, it is imperative we invest in our future, so that we can continue to capitalize on the energy, excitement, and positive forward momentum.” The average annual food and beverage earnings have also doubled as compared to pre-pandemic data. Hey Identifier, https://www.mississippifreepress.org/27465/in-depth-how-brett-favre-secured-6-million-in-welfare-funds-for-a-volleyball-stadium #brettfarve #philbryant #mississippi “Multiple prosecutors” are still examining the facts and making decisions about criminal charges in Mississippi's sprawling welfare scandal that saw millions in funds meant for poor families go instead to wealthy celebrities, Mississippi State Auditor Shad White said on Thursday, Sept. 15. The auditor made that remark on CNN after court documents filed on Monday, Sept. 12, revealed dozens of text messages showing how retired-NFL star Brett Favre, former Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant and nonprofit leader Nancy New coordinated on procuring welfare funds to finance an $8-million volleyball stadium. New ran the nonprofit Mississippi Community Education Center when it directed $5 million in Temporary Assistance For Needy Families to The University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation, whose board she sat on, to fund the stadium on the Hattiesburg campus. Her nonprofit also directed $1.1 million to Favre for motivational speeches he never delivered. She and her son, Zach New, have pled guilty to multiple state charges, including bribery and wire fraud as part of a plea agreement. The newly revealed text messages, revealed publicly in a court filing in a separate civil suit this week, shed light on how $6.1 million meant for the poorest families in the poorest state wound up going to Favre and a pet project at his alma mater instead. The civil suit is part of the State of Mississippi's efforts to recover tens of millions in misspent funds from dozens of players, including Favre, New and MCEC, her nonprofit. A ‘Very Big Deal' In a filing seeking to compel ex-Gov. Bryant to turn over information about the volleyball stadium scheme that went public on Monday, Sept. 12, MCEC noted that the State's lawsuit claims the organization “paid Favre $1,100,000 simply for the ‘purpose of enriching' him.” “The evidence, however, shows that MCEC paid Favre $1,100,000 expressly to provide Favre with additional funds to use for construction of the Volleyball Facility,” the New-founded nonprofit group's filing says. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS Numerous reports allege that black residents and activists are "vindicated," whatever that means, now that Roger Golubski was arrested and faces six federal counts of civil rights violations. The New York Times reports that this White, former police officer and captain "had long been suspected of raping and terrorizing Black women as he patrolled the streets of Kansas City." The Kansas City Star has been reporting on this Raping Race Soldier for years. Across the pond in Germany, Denisha Montgomery died suspiciously while serving in the US armed services. Her family reports that she contacted them after being assaulted by her drunk, White soldiers. Georgia's WRBL reports that before her death, Montgomery told her parents that after consuming alcohol with her White colleagues they assaulted. Her parents remember Montgomery saying that "on the car ride back, 'They choked me out like they was doing this in the car. I kept telling them … I cant breathe.'" Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Brett Farve might be investigated after evidence reveals he was party of scheme to defraud the state of Mississippi's treasury. Apparently, the pill-popping ball player and his White pal, former governor Phil Bryant, snookered this loot to build a volleyball stadium for Farve's white daughter, Breleigh. Black residents of Jackson got no water or volleyballs. Join America's Roundtable co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with the Honorable Phil Bryant, former Governor of the State of Mississippi (2012-2020) covering key issues of our day including the Dobbs Supreme Court case, the leak of Justice Samuel Alito's draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturning Roe v. Wade, America's national security crisis at the nation's southern border, the Republic's economic decline and the war in Europe. On March 19, 2018, Governor Phil Bryant signed the Gestational Age Act (H.B. 1510) into law. This bill was introduced by Mississippi Representative Becky Currie, a registered nurse. The bill received bipartisan support in both chambers of the legislature. Before becoming the state's chief executive, Phil Bryant was lieutenant governor, state auditor and represented his legislative district in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Governor Bryant began his career as a deputy sheriff in Hinds County and is a great proponent in strengthening America's constitutional principles — the rule of law, and standing firm for the significance of life, and liberty. Governor Bryant serves on the leadership board of International Leaders Summit and is a distinguished guest contributor of America's Roundtable. “The ability to obtain an abortion would not disappear across the U.S. It might in some states, but in some of those states there are already relatively few clinics that perform abortions. The likeliest result is a multiplicity of laws depending on how the debate and elections go. California might allow abortion until the moment of birth. Mississippi might ban it except in cases of rape or incest. This is how the American system is supposed to work, as the late Justice Antonin Scalia often wrote. After a series of elections, abortion law will sort itself out democratically. That had started to happen before the Supreme Court intervened in Roe, embittering the abortion debate and damaging the Court. In Dobbs the Court can say that such a profound moral question should be decided by the people, not by nine unelected judges.” — The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, April 26, 2022 | Abortion and the Supreme Court — This is the moment for the Justices to turn the issue over to the voters. https://ileaderssummit.org/services/americas-roundtable-radio/ https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 Twitter: @PhilBryantMS @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA @supertalk America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. According to Reuters: "Over 2 million refugees have entered Poland from Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on Feb. 24, the Polish border guard said on Friday." Estimates from Europe suggest that the numbers will rise to more than 5 million Ukrainians fleeing their homes in the coming weeks. The program features America's state legislatures and governors around the nation who are condemning Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Through a principled endeavor, both the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate passed resolutions barring any business between state entities and Russia. Governor Bryant served two terms as Mississippi's 64th governor from 2012 to January 2020 and served as Mississippi's lieutenant governor, as state auditor, and as a legislator in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Phil Bryant is a founding member of Bryant Songy Snell Global Partners where he provides strategic advice and counsel and business development services to some of the world's largest industry leaders. He is a distinguished guest-host of America's Roundtable and serves on the International Leaders Summit's leadership board. While serving as Mississippi's chief executive officer, Governor Bryant largely centered his efforts on creating new economic opportunities, among other things. Under Governor Bryant's leadership Mississippi saw its lowest-ever unemployment rate, its lowest-ever high school dropout rate, its lowest-ever teen pregnancy rate, its highest-ever number of jobs, its highest-ever number of graduating physicians, its highest-ever K-12 reading and math improvement scores, and its highest-ever high school graduation rate. Governor Bryant's dedicated focus on economic development yielded more than $8 billion in private sector investment in Mississippi as well as the largest economic project in state history—a landmark agreement with Continental Tire to build a major manufacturing facility in central Mississippi and create more than 2,500 new jobs. Governor Bryant dovetailed public education reforms with a strong focus on workforce training programs and job creation. His administration worked to improve career-technical training programs and their delivery through Mississippi's top-rated community and junior college system, pairing program offerings with local workforce opportunities and collaborating with the K-12 system to strengthen high school vocational programs. He worked closely with the University of Mississippi Medical Center to build a new School of Medicine and to increase the number of graduating physicians each year; to position Mississippi as a national leader in telemedicine services and technology; and to create a state-of-the-art residential facility to care for medically fragile children. Governor Bryant served as chairman of the Education Commission of the States; chairman of the Southern States Energy Board; chairman of Jobs for America's Graduates; and chairman of the Royal Commonwealth Society of the United States. https://ileaderssummit.org/services/americas-roundtable-radio/ https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 Twitter: @supertalk @PhilBryantMS @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. During his time as Governor, he established evidence-based early childhood programs, increased teacher pay and support programs for incoming teachers, and worked to increase the number of teachers with National Board Certification.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to take up a major abortion case next term concerning a controversial Mississippi law that banned most abortions after 15 weeks, rekindling a potentially major challenge to Roe v. Wade at the majority conservative court. Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban, which then-Gov. Phil Bryant, a Republican, signed into law in 2018, made exceptions only for medical emergencies or cases in which there is a "severe fetal abnormality," but not for instances of rape or incest. A federal judge in Mississippi struck down the law in November 2018, and the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that ruling in December 2019.To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

Last week, Phil Bryant, the governor of Mississippi, signed a bill that “bans abortions after a doctor can detect a fetal heartbeat during an ultrasound, unless the mother's health is at extreme risk.” The law, set to go into effect in July, would effectively ban nearly all abortions after about six to eight weeks. Two weeks ago, Kentucky's governor signed a law that prohibits abortions after six weeks. That law was blocked by a federal judge who ruled that the law was “potentially unconstitutional.” As constitutional interpretation stands right now, he is probably correct. Even so, even abortion advocates are acknowledging that the days of Roe v. Wade may well be numbered. Which leaves us with an obvious question: What's next? Even if we see a complete reversal of Roe that explicitly states that a woman has no constitutional right to an abortion, abortion will still remain legal in many states, especially on the east and west coasts. It's also possible that rather than overturn Roe, the Supreme Court will slowly chip away at it on a case-by-case basis, expanding the list of restrictions on abortion that can pass constitutional muster. While some frustration with such a slow incrementalism is understandable, there's little, if anything, we can do about it. The Court will decide Roe's fate on its schedule, not ours. In either case, here's what's becoming increasingly clear: The battle over abortion is shifting away from the federal government to the states, and will ultimately shift to the individual conscience. We've already seen some of this shift at work. During the past decade or so, pro-life activists worked to elect pro-life legislators on the state level who would enact legislation that would test the limits of abortion license by limiting the time, the place, or the manner of abortion procedures. As a result, 27 states have enacted waiting periods, another 18 mandate some kind of counseling, and more than 40 have laws limiting how far along in the pregnancy an abortion can be performed. In fact, nearly 300 such measures have been passed by states in the past decade. Currently, at least eleven other states are considering “heartbeat bills” like Mississippi's and Kentucky's. At the same time, and especially since the 2016 election and the appointments of Supreme Court justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, advocates have begun to sense a real threat to the current abortion regime. So they've responded with state measures of their own, the most recent (and infamous) examples being laws in New York and Vermont that legalize abortion right up until delivery. That's only part of their preparations. A new book, called “Handbook for a Post-Roe America,” lays out a strategy to promote access to abortion even if most states outlaw it altogether. Among other things, it advises women who might become pregnant to start saving money, not only for an abortion itself but for traveling expenses, and it even provides maps to help them with planning. We must resist the temptation to scoff at this if for no other reason than the book underscores an often overlooked reality: Even if Roe is completely overturned, most Americans will still live within driving distance of a state where abortion will be legal. I'm not suggesting that the proposed laws are unimportant—on the contrary, pass more of them! I only wish to remind us that our goal is to make abortion unthinkable as well as illegal. And that means our work has only just begun. In fact, it may very well be the hardest part of our job is still ahead of us: making the pro-life case without the benefit of political tailwinds. Let me be clear. I'll be happy to see Roe go. We will throw a party when it happens. But celebrations must be short-lived. Our work continues. And therefore, so must our preparations—whether to defend life, protect religious freedom, to educate and mentor young Christians… That's why I ask you to consider joining our Colson Fellows Program.
