Vivian Jenna Wilson first made headlines in 2024 as Elon Musk's estranged “transgender daughter,” a reductive framework that much of the mainstream media continues to use for clicks. Wilson is newsworthy for all of who she is: an outspoken critic of Musk, an advocate for trans rights, a college student, an aspiring model, a gamer, and a “RuPaul's Drag Race” superfan. Don't come for her on Bluesky if you can't handle a clap back. This is the Vivian Jenna Wilson that Teen Vogue introduced to the world in the magazine's March 2024 cover story. This week, Katelyn and Christine chat with Teen Vogue editor Lex McMenamin about the making of the cover story. Teen Vogue often sets the bar for political coverage that doesn't play both sides when one side is full of—you know. *side-eye emoji* Katelyn, Christine, and Lex demystify and define journalism standards amid a larger discussion of how to improve trans media coverage under Trump 2.0. As promised, with me in the Café at Artichoke Music is Jennifer Carrizo, Senior Talent Buyer for the Crystal Ballroom, the Mission Theater and the Spanish Ballroom in Tacoma, all part of McMenamin's wonderfully funky empire. It's hard to believe we haven't had many from the venue management side of de bizz eh nezz. But here we are. What does a talent buyer do? Senior or not. I'll tell you this, the reason you can go out and hear music is because the talent buyer has made a deal which brought that band to you. Let's meet Jennifer Carrizo.
I'm happy we're back here in the café at Artichoke Music.. Next week, Jennifer Carrizo from McMenamin's will be here to talk about what's going on at the Mission Theater…the answer is a lot! But this week a new conversation from a couple of months ago (and I apologize for the delay) with one of our best singers and songwriters, Anandi. She has a lot to say about Jazz singing, especially the Latin variety. At the time we talked she had just released a new album called A Better Way. We'll hear a track from it at the end of our conversation Please meet Anandi.

This week on the Bulldog Insider Podcast, Minnesota Duluth fifth-year senior wing and assistant captain Connor McMenamin shares what it's like going from a Big Ten program at Penn State to an NCAA Division II school like Minnesota Duluth, that plays Division I hockey. The short answer from McMenamin is that the Nittany Lions and Bulldogs programs are quite similar when it comes to resources and amenities. The big difference between the two programs is their location, the communities they call home and the leagues they play in — which impacts the style of play. After the Lakers were eliminated Monday in Game 4 against the Nuggets, LeBron James finished his press conference with a somewhat cryptic message. "We'll see. We'll see what happens going forward. I don't know. I don't know. I've got a lot to think about to be honest," James said. "Just for me personally going forward with the game of basketball. I've got a lot to think about."Obviously that sounds like a guy who is considering retirement, and Monday he certainly played like a guy who might walk away. 48 minutes, 40 points, 15-25 shooting. He left everything on the floor, no question. In our big show, we tried not to speculate until a little there was a little more reporting. Well...Both Dave McMenamin and Chris Haynes report that LeBron really does seem to be considering retirement. First, from McMenamin, this exchange:"LeBron James to ESPN on his thought process going into the offseason:Q: When you say you got to think about stuff, what thread should we be pulling on that?A: "If I want to continue to play."Q: As in next year?A: "Yeah."Q: You would walk away?A: "I got to think about it."Then Haynes reports that "Lakers star LeBron James is uncertain if he'll be with the team when the 2023-24 NBA season starts in the fall, and retirement is under consideration, league sources tell Bleacher Report, TNT.LeBron has a lot to weigh, sources say."So... is this a real game changer? What happens if LeBron calls it quits? Is it just a shot across the bow?HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. He left everything on the floor, no question. In our big show, we tried not to speculate until a little there was a little more reporting. Well... Both Dave McMenamin and Chris Haynes report that LeBron really does seem to be considering retirement. First, from McMenamin, this exchange: "LeBron James to ESPN on his thought process going into the offseason: Q: When you say you got to think about stuff, what thread should we be pulling on that? A: "If I want to continue to play." Q: As in next year? A: "Yeah." Q: You would walk away? A: "I got to think about it." Then Haynes reports that "Lakers star LeBron James is uncertain if he'll be with the team when the 2023-24 NBA season starts in the fall, and retirement is under consideration, league sources tell Bleacher Report, TNT. LeBron has a lot to weigh, sources say." So... is this a real game changer? What happens if LeBron calls it quits? Is it just a shot across the bow? Winners of five straight, the Lakers basically made a calculated sacrifice of that accomplishment, going into Denver Monday night and electing to give LeBron James, struggling with any number of physical maladies despite MVP-level play, the night off.But without Austin Reaves, Lonnie Walker IV, Troy Brown Jr. and, of course, Anthony Davis, there was a very, very good chance the Lakers (despite playing so well of late) would have lost in Denver even if LeBron had played. And now he'll get a chance to rest until Thursday's game at home vs. Dallas. Four full days off (Sunday-Wednesday) is about as much rest as an NBA season provides, while only missing one game. So the Lakers were wise to take advantage, something easier to do now that they've regained contact with the rest of the conference.Still, despite a home heavy stretch through the end of the month, the Lakers still face a stiff challenge to keep the momentum going while so many players are out. And to make matters worse, Pat Beverley left Monday's loss with a hip injury. The Lakers will have more info on him Tuesday or Wednesday, but given how he's turned his season around (and that the Lakers are suddenly very short on bodies) any missed time for Beverley would be very impactful. (Russell Westbrook suffered a dislocated right pinkie finger, too, but at least for the time being appears capable of playing. Which is a big deal, especially since he and LeBron have made significant progress in their two-man partnership.)All this gets to LA's continuing problem - they may very well have used up, or nearly used up, a whole season's worth of margin for error in the first 12 games. So can they hang on until Davis comes back? The news continues to be as good as can be expected, at least in the sense that the Lakers currently appear to be avoiding catastrophe. Davis, reports ESPN's Dave McMenamin, will start ramping up for a return now that the Lakers are back in Los Angeles. But that doesn't mean he's hitting the court. It starts in the pool, and then on the altered-gravity treadmill, with the hope they can "eye" a return in a couple of weeks, and start "penciling in a potential return to game action," McMenamin wrote. So there's a lot of wiggle in here, for sure.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Lakers lose in Denver as LeBron gets well-scheduled time off.SEGMENT 2: Russell Westbrook is playing well with James, and remains a very durable presence in LA's oft-injured lineup.SEGMENT 3: How long can the Lakers keep surviving down so many players?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
