Today on the podcast we have Doug Carlson. Doug is the North American CEO of Good Idea Drinks - the first functional beverage clinically proven to boost metabolism, sustain natural energy, and help to balance blood sugar - with no caffeine or sugar. Today we talk all about metabolic health and how Good Idea came to be, with its roots in years of research at the Univesrity of Lund in Sweden. Good Idea has a remarkable amino acid blend combined with chromium picolinate, an essential mineral known for its ability to enhance insulin sensitivity. After conducting clinical trials to fine-tune the ratio, the results were impressive - GOOD IDEA drinks were able to reduce blood sugar spikes by an average of 25%, making every meal a little healthier. Doug has a long standing history as a successful entrepreneur and was the co-founder and CEO of Fiji Water. On this episode, he shares about why the work from the Swedish team of Good Idea captured his attention in a major way. The Hamilton Today Podcast with Scott Thompson: Today, Canada's NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is in town to speak to media about the party's push to make big grocer CEOs “pay their fair share,” as the press release puts it. As the federal inquiry on foreign interference by China and other nations resumed last week, hearing from activists who claim persecution by those countries, a much different sort of approach to the People's Republic unfolded overseas: A delegation of five MPs and senators, most of them on friendly terms with Beijing, visited China, meeting officials of the unelected National People's Congress and other state institutions. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is highlighting a fundamental unfairness about the federal carbon tax: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is requiring taxpayers in other provinces to pay a higher carbon tax than in Quebec. Was CSIS too secretive about Foreign Interference in the 2021 election? What needs to happen next for Canada to have a successful school food program? The Ontario Government's messaging about the eclipse, particularly the highway safety signs that have had their advice to “telecommute” pulled. The federal Conservative lead over Trudeau's Liberals is narrowing, according to new polling from Ipsos. The Hamilton Spectator has a new piece covering how the Medusa cybercrime gang has recently targeted Hamilton businesses with ransomware attacks. Who are they? Guests: Jagmeet Singh, Leader of the Federal NDP Charles Burton, Senior Fellow with the Centre for Advancing Canada's Interests Abroad at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute Franco Terrazzano, Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Federal Director Phil Gurski, President of Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting, former CSIS analyst Rachel Engler-Stringer, Professor Community Health and Epidemiology, Univesrity of Saskatchewan Colin D'Mello, Queen's Park Bureau Chief, Global News Nik Nanos, CMC FRIC Chief Data Scientist and Founder, Nanos Research David Shipley, Cyber security expert and CEO of Beauceron Security Scott Radley, Host of The Scott Radley Show and Columnist with the Hamilton Spectator Host – Scott Thompson Content Producer – William Erskine Technical/Podcast Producer – Tom McKay Podcast Co-Producer – Ben Straughan News Anchor – Dave Woodard & Jen McQueen Want to keep up with what happened in Hamilton Today? The Hamilton Today Podcast with Scott Thompson: CarHacking: how thieves can steal your keys without ever touching them, and get in the driver's seat of your vehicle. Writing in the Globe and Mail, Marsha Lederman expands on how it should have never come to pass that parliament welcomed in a veteran of a Nazi military unit. As disgraceful as it was, why and how could the Liberals possibly try to strike something from the record like the welcoming of a Nazi into parliament? The Speaker of the House has stepped down: this will not be the end of the story for the Liberals and for our government, so what is the fallout? We look at what the Liberals must do to make up for allowing a Yaroslav Hunka, who was a member of the Waffen-SS Nazi military unit, into parliament to be applauded in front of Zelenskyy. And some breaking news with an arrest in relation to a Hamilton school bomb threat. It is all coming up on the Hamilton Today Podcast! Guests: Carmi Levy Technology Analyst & Journalist. Marsha Lederman, Columnist with The Globe and Mail, (former Hamiltonian) and Author of ‘Kiss the Red Stairs: The Holocaust, Once Removed'. Duff Conacher, Co-Founder of Democracy Watch. Protest movements have broken out against the oppressive regimes in Iran and China. Young Iranians posted their reasons for rebelling under the hashtag Baraye, meaning “because” and the singer-songwriter Shervin Hajipour compiled many of these reasons into a song of the same title that has become an anthem of the Iranian movement and an inspiration to those fighting for freedom around the world. One line in particular stands out. Young people are rebelling because of their “yeaning for an ordinary life”—for the opportunity to lead lives of the sort many around the world take for granted. By historical standards such “ordinary lives” are extraordinary, and indeed the way of living that freedom fighters long for has not been fully realized, even in the freest and most prosperous societies. It is a way of life that is demanded by human nature, such that the best among us and the best within us yearn for it, often without being able to define it or chart a course towards it. In this talk hosted by the Salem Center at Univesrity of Texas, Austin, Dr. Brook articulates the object of this yearning, discusses how it animates the movements in Iran and China, and draws implications for the fight for freedom in these countries and around the world.00:00 Intro00:20 Iranian protest song Baraye02:50 Death of Mahsa Amini starting protests in Iran09:18 Protests in China18:24 Exodus from Cuba, Russia and Venezuela20:04 Price paid by the protesters26:24 Yearning for an Ordinary Life30:34 Why do we have freedom? 34:55 What happened 250 years ago?37:30 Reason, see http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/reason.html39:27 Individualism, see http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/individualism.html 39:55 What is Freedom?, see http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/freedom.html42:32 Enlightenment45:40 Noble cause for freedomLive Questions:49:41 Israeli–Palestinian conflict52:29 Western companies doing business in China1:00:48 Western press coverage of those uprisings1:06:37 Fall of the Berlin Wall1:11:44 Silence towards Iran1:12:42 Civil Rights Movement1:18:56 Moral culpability of US1:20:34 Covid lockdowns1:23:21 Self-esteem1:27:10 Is freedom necessary progression of any society?1:31:55 Property rights1:35:21 Way to improve western system1:40:10 Minority neighborhoods1:42:10 How to influence political decisions?1:46:00 OutroShow is Sponsored by Ayn Rand University https://university.aynrand.org/ as well as by https://www.expressvpn.com/yaron & https://www.fountainheadcasts.comJoin this channel to get access to perks:https://www.youtube.com/@YaronBrook/joinLike what you hear? Our guest this week is Deen Freelon, an associate professor at the Hussman school of Journalism and Media at Univesrity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Our host spoke to Freelon about how foreign adversaries, and particularly the Internet Research Agency in Russia, are using social media platforms against us. We explore how foreign governments wage disinformation campaigns against us, who they target and why. Are they succeeding? And what can we do as news and information consumers to avoid falling for this nefarious form of misinformation?Freelon is known for his coding and computational methods to extract, preprocess and analyze large sets of data. He has researched how misinformation is spread and what people can do to prevent the spread of false information. Freelon has published over 30 peer reviewed journal articles and contributed extensive research to the Knight Foundation. In the past few years, Freelon has done substantial analyses about the impact of state-sponsored disinformation campaigns on Twitter related to our elections and the Black Lives Matter movement.
