From 'Baseball Isn't Boring' (subscribe here): As good as things have been going for the Orioles, there was always the looming presence of an ownership which didn't seem all that interested in helping take the O's - or their fan base - to the next level. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, along came the news that the Angelos family was selling the team to a group headlined by lifelong fan David Rubenstein. To help Baltimore celebrate we turned to our go-to guy when it comes to all things Orioles, Eric Arditti (@editti22) and he didn't disappoint. This week I'm joined by the fabulous Katy Leep Arditti, consumer of all things Thriller and Fantasy, business owner, massage therapist, and one of my favorite book club friends. Friends, Katy introduced me to a book so totally out of my wheelhouse, I actually contemplated not reading it, and just having her on to tell me about it. But I'm so glad I avoided that temptation, because Ordinary Monsters turned out to be easily one of my favorite reads of 2022. Michael Arditti is an award-winning author of 11 novels, he's written short stories, and worked as a theatre critic and book reviewer for national newspapers. His new novel is 'The Anointed'. It's a retelling of the biblical King David, as told through his 3 wives, Michal, Abigail and Bathsheba. We talk about how he put his own spin on history, and why he chose to write about such a specific time, and retell a famous story. His novel, 'Easter', won the first Waterstones Mardi Gras Award, he's also penned 'The Celibate', 'Of Men and Angels', 'The Enemy', and others. All of his books explore the theme of religion, and why some believe and others don't. We talk about why he constantly unpacks that in his stories, and how he comes up with new ideas for ways to explore the theme in prose. Michael talks about why he's a morning person, and how he fits his day around that, what he thinks about originality and wasting-words, and why he doesn't like being told what he can't write simply because he's a male in London. You can get a copy of 'The Anointed' here - https://amzn.to/3AdwLzbYou can support the show on Patreon here - patreon.com/writersroutine.@writerspodwritersroutine.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Orioles offense came up short again, scoring one or fewer runs for the third time in four games in a 3-1 loss to the Athletics Friday night. Paul and Zack are here to break it all down before Stan "The Fan" Charles joins the show to talk Jahmai Jones, the Dodgers/Padres series, and his Power Rankings at 10:20. At 10:50, PressBox Editor Luke Jackson joins the show to discuss the latest PressBox print edition and some early surprises in Major League Baseball. In Orioles Banter, the guys look at the good and the bad of this early Orioles season. Is the bullpen becoming elite? At 11:35, Eric Arditti of Barstool Sports will be on the line to talk some Orioles, some baseball cards, and then play some Take to Rake. Did Zack pick up another win or did Paul get back on track? Here's a hint: it was a rough week. That and more on The Bat Around!
Here's our very special Opening Day show...just in time for it to not be Opening Day! Cool! Early in the show wecaught up with Baltimore native Ron Swoboda (Sparrows Point) to discuss memories of his catch against Brooks Robinson (his favorite player!) in '69 and his book "Here's The Catch" being released in paperback. Later in Hour 1, WEEI host/former Red Sox infielder Lou Merloni joined us to preview the opening series of the season, how Red Sox fans have handled the last couple of years and whether a Lou Merloni could even play in 2021. Early in Hour 2, our annual MLB fantasy draft as Eric Arditti (Barstool Sports/Exit 52 Podcast) joined us to pick which teams Vegas is wrong about-loser has to eat a "Baseball Prison Pizza." And to wrap Hour 2, a conversation with Buck Showalter that covered...everything.

Barstool Sports' Eric Arditti joins this week's podcast to talk Trey Mancini, Adley Rutschman, Mo Gaba, and much more. If you're not into snakes or Breaking Bad, the O's chatter begins around the 16-minute mark. We both love Mike Elias and Jim Palmer, and we're going to walk from Baltimore to Nashville if the Orioles move there.

Welp. Today's the day. Glenn pays off his MLB bet by honoring our neighbors to the north. He's wearing his finest Canadian tuxedo (you can see it Facebook.com/PressBoxSports) and consuming a bowl of mac & cheese that's mixed with TEN OUNCES of ketchup throughout the show. Oh and he's going to perform the Canadian national anthems-both Avril Lavigne and Nickelback. Our buddy Eric Arditti (Barstool Sports) is with us in studio-he's our resident Titans fan and doesn't like their chances against the Raves. Early in Hour 1, our friends Bradley & Nikki Bozeman checked in to discuss the tough loss and their Thanksgiving charity giveaway next week. Early in Hour 2 we debate this year's Baseball Hall of Fame ballot-which was sent out yesterday. Near the bottom of Hour 2, Orioles pitcher David Hess joined us to discuss the strange nature of baseball in 2020 and now being a free agent. And to end the show we chatted with former Titans receiver/104.5 (Nashville) host Kevin Dyson joined us to look ahead to Sunday's game.
The playoffs are in full swing and the LCS is set in both leagues. Paul and Zack dive into an action packed week that was chocked full of great pitching. At 10:20, Stan "The Fan" Charles is back with his weekly segment to talk about Manny's "antics" and the playoffs about a whole. Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com joins the show at 10:50 to talk about the Orioles instructional camp and what their plans are for the offseason. Eric Arditti of Barstool Sports joins the show at 11:35 to give his thoughts on Aroldis Chapman, the playoffs, and the Orioles season. Plus, Paul and Zack go over their top 5 Orioles Playoff Moments, and close the show with another playoff edition of Take to Rake.

This week on The Bat Around, Zack Goodman of the "Nate Hit the Foul Pole" Podcast sits in as co-host with Paul. Stan Charles is on at 10:20 to talk the Orioles hot start, the Beltway Series, and the Orioles rotation moving forward. At 10:50, Paul and Zack breakdown the Beltway series and dissect whether or not the Nationals are a playoff team. At 11:35, Eric Arditti of Barstool Sports is re-joins the show to talk Orioles sustainability, Chris Davis' leash, and when we can expect Ryan Mountcastle. Plus, Take to Rake. Can Paul or Vasilios take a 2-1 lead, or did Jeremy Conn swoop in and take the week?
So much to do on a Thursday edition of GCR. Finally for the first time our friend Pete Medhurst-the voice of Navy Athletics-spent the entire 10am hour with us. We talked about his career, the situation with Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly getting an 8 game suspension for head hunting the Astros and more. Also at the bottom of Hour 1, we caught up with The Athletic's Mike Sando, who just published his annual "QB Tiers" piece where coaches and personnel folks said Lamar Jackson was in Tier 2-the 7th best QB in the NFL. In hour 2, we continued to celebrate the life of Mo Gaba-as his friends Eric Arditti (Barstool Sports) and Bradley & Nikki Bozeman joined us, as did Bill Stetka-the Orioles' liaison to the team Hall Of Fame to explain how Mo's induction came about.
The Bat Around is back with a brand new host! Paul Valle has taken over the reigns as the host of the show, but don't worry, Stan will be on at 10:20 this week and every week to talk all things baseball. At 10:45, Matt Pyne of Eutaw Street Report and the Nate Hit the Foul Pole podcast joins the show to discuss some fantasy and real-life baseball. We open hour number two with old friend, Craig Heist, to talk some Nationals baseball, and then Eric Arditti helps us close the show talking about the Orioles, but more importantly, his relationship with super-fan, Mo Gaba.
Baseball is back-are we excited? Is there a way to both root for the Orioles AND root for the Orioles to lose? We discussed that to start today's show. Midway through Hour 1, former Ravens OC/Giants coach Jim Fassel joined us to discuss the impact of having no preseason for NFL teams plus the impact of empty crowds and why the Ravens should have an advantage. At the top of Hour 2, our buddy Eric Arditti (BarstoolSports.com) checked in to discuss the season and also to participate in our annual MLB Fantasy Draft. Which teams' projected win totals will end up being the furthest away from their actual win totals? Loser is going to have to celebrate our friends to the north by wearing a Canadian Tuxedo for a show while performing "Photograph" by Nickelback and "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne. At the bottom of Hour 2, Morgan State football coach Tyrone Wheatley checked in to discuss the MEAC cancelling fall sports and hopes for a spring season.
It's #WouldYouRatherWednesday, brought to you by Glory Days Grill. Would you rather have just a 40 game MLB season (with no fans and expanded playoffs) OR no MLB season but instead an expanded Fall League where every team fields a squad of top prospects and the games are on TV? At the bottom of Hour 1, Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn joined us to discuss Orioles first round pick Heston Kjerstad-including why Kjerstad's pitch selection can be expected to be even better moving forward. Near the bottom of Hour 2, our pal Eric Arditti ("Barstool RDT" from BarstoolSports.com) joined us to discuss a special week honoring Mo Gaba, him flaking on paying off a Barstool bet and to play Would You Rather Wednesday.
Eric Arditti joins the show to talk about the Orioles first three draft selections in this year's MLB Draft.

This week, I have the incredible honor of welcoming renowned pianist Ursula Oppens to the show. A legend among American pianists, Ursula is widely admired for both her original and perceptive readings of new music, and for her knowing interpretations of the standard repertoire. As you'll hear in the episode, she's an incredibly passionate and wise musician! Her and I covered several topics, from the reality of a career in music today, to how she approaches learning repertoire, and how she's stays focused in the practice room! In this episode, Ursula expands on: Her love of new music and how it developed early on in her life How she approaches bringing new music to life Why she doesn't think musicians should have a niche but should, instead, be interested in learning Her view of the musical landscape of today What improvisation can bring to our playing How she loves practicing (and I love that she said that so much!) How mental and muscle memory develop together Why she thinks it's important to memorize music in order to learn it better Her strategies to find energy, motivation, and focus to practice Why flexibility is a crucial skill to develop How a well-rounded education is also very helpful Her very wise piece of advice for young musicians Ursula is a force of nature and very generous with her insight. I know you'll love this discussion! Eric Arditti (from Barstool Sports) is here and he has to pay off his season long MLB bet. He has to eat a full damn POUND of black licorice jelly beans during the course of the show which just...it's just not fun. For anyone. Can he do it? We also talked with Eric about the World Series, Orioles fans who hate the Nationals, the weekend that was in the NFL, whether the Ravens should still try to make a big trade and if they even need to. Late in Hour 1, Ravens safety Bennett Jackson joined us to discuss his incredible path from being drafted all the way back in 2014 to finally making his NFL debut last week in Seattle against the Seahawks. In Hour 2, we offered our #PatsOnTheAss and #SlapsToTheHelmet for the first half of the Ravens' season and recapped our weekend in picks, wrapped around a conversation at the bottom of Hour 1 with our friend Nikki Bozeman before their Halloween Party tomorrow night.
In this episode of The Payoff Pitch, we are once again joined by Eric Arditti of Barstool Sports. We talk about the current state of the rebuild, Hunter Harvey shutting down the Gnats late in a game, next year's draft, Anthony Santander's promise, and more.
